A word from Legal Harborside - Floor 1 Restaurant and Market
The first floor hull of Legal Harborside is a nod to Legal Sea Foods’ heritage, a fish market opened in 1950 in Inman Square, Cambridge that expanded in 1968 into a no-frills restaurant where guests sat on picnic tables.

Here you'll enjoy a casual menu of seafood favorites with a twist as well as shareable plates, pastas and pizzas made to order in an open kitchen. Choose to eat at one of the picnic tables for an authentic throwback experience or grab a seat at the oyster bar and watch the shuckers at work (up to 14 varieties of oysters are offered daily). Opt instead for the large elliptical bar where both wine and local beers are on tap or request patio seating, along Boston's HarborWalk. Other highlights include a "catch and release" trout pond and a retail market, with a fish monger on site, that offers fresh seafood, takeout and grab and go. Named a “Best New Restaurant” by Esquire, 2011.

Great fresh seafood like only Legal can do! Great views of the Harbor and nearby wharfs. It was just a tad chilly and windy to eat outdoors. This was our only disappointment. The entire staff was friendly and welcoming. The menu here varies a bit from the other Legal restaurants which adds to it's appeal. After a cocktail, I had the Baked Haddock with Jasmine rice which was delightful. My dinner companion enjoyed the Fish & Chips. We even indulged in dessert. I was delighted by the classic Boston Creme Pie while my companion had ice cream. Yummy! The decor is well thought out - love the table covers! These suburban Boston folks will be back! It's certainly worth a trip into the city.

This was my first time sit down experience at Harborside. Good experience overall and will come back. Had the Swordfish salad, thought the portion was a little small but everyone else in my party enjoyed their experience. Would come back but probably order something different.

Being touted as the "flagship" Legal I had high expectations and Legal delivered. The shrimp cocktail comes in a glass jar tossed in cocktail sauce, fresh and delicious! Had the stuffie appetizer and although a bit pricey was really good, need to have some Frank's Red Hot sauce on hand though. We had the fried clams which were very light and clean tasting, void of any grit. The grilled salmon was perfectly cooked and I choose the swiss chard and soba noodle sides which were spot-on. I loved the fact that this combination transported my meal from traditional New England seafood to Asian inspired barioishii!

Seven of us had lunch on a Saturday and except for a 15+ minute wait for our table (we had a reservation), all went well. Our server was very attentive and helpful. We shared spreads and bruschettas as starters and they were excellent. We let our server choose the bruschettas and she did an excellent job picking the tuna, braised short ribs, and grilled corn. We were all very happy with our respective luncheon choices. Two of us had one of the specials, which was divine; it consisted of squash ravioli in a cream sauce, along with shrimp, over a bed of spaghetti squash. One of our party was celebrating his birthday and we brought our own cake, which the server put candles on. It was a great time.

Make a reservation or it will be tough to get in before a show. It's a more casual menu than at traditional Legal restaurants. Good drink list and nice selection of oysters. Good service. Recommend the grab meat salad and fish tacos. I've never had anything I didn't enjoy.

We had dinner on the first floor the other night. The restaurant itself is very nice with beautiful views of the water. The food was quite disappointing. I ordered grilled shrimp that arrived at the table very overcooked, dry, and crispy. Such a simple dish that was ruined! I returned it and was served the dish the way it should have been the first time. The salmon was also very average, at best.

To me there's nothing better than watching the waterfront at sunset over drinks and seafood. Harborside (first floor) was just what we expected - down-to-earth menu, fresh food, and reasonably priced. The entree plates are basic, and the portions sizes are just right, so you may want to order a first course or side. For our appetizer, we were very happy with a half dozen oysters at the bar before being seated. This was well worth it, especially on a late summer evening!

Legal Harborside is always a good meal - and the view of the harbor! When in Boston come here. We did late lunch so ambiance was low...no dinner energy or lunch hustle going on - was nice outside but a bit chilly. Server was happy to move us indoors and make recommendations. Wish I could eat here more often!

Our second trip of the month to Legal was a far cry from the great food we had several weeks ago. The white clam pizza was terrible and the pasta dish was watery and lacked flavor. Maybe there was a new chef? We were very disappointed! I cannot recommend it today.

Had lunch here, and it took forever to get an outdoor table, even though we had reserved one and there were free tables. Waiter was nice but overwhelmed, so it took a while to get the orders in. Oysters were delicious, so was the turkey burger and my wood fired stove BBQed clams. Views are awesome, so is the beer and wine selection. Lovely place with some service challenges.

As usual, I enjoyed my Portugese Fish soup, but neither of my guests finished their Crab salad. We wanted to be on the deck, but the tables were full. The inside noise level made conversation very difficult. I am sure they enjoyed the view. Go to eat and look out at the harbor, not socialize.

I took a group of six clients here while in Boston. We were all grateful to be seated promptly. Our server, while pleasant, made a couple of errors that detracted from the experience. One client never received her shrimp cocktail and another received clam chowder instead of the lobster bisque he ordered. All in all a good experience, just not the "over the top" I was expecting. I'd go back and the fact that this restaurant utilizes open table was a primary reason for choosing it.

Fantastic view, good food, good service. A little pricey, but so is everything down at the Seaport. If you like seafood, definitely a good spot for a good meal. Took the girlfriend there for her birthday and everything went well. Only complaint I had was that I specifically requested a spot on the outdoor patio/deck, and ended up with a table that was near the out door area with a good view, but not exactly what I requested. Overall would recommend.

Legal's food is always good. Nothing too fancy but well prepared, good ingredients and a nice choice. They are also very amenable to changes. Our server was very knowledgable about the dishes (we had some food restrictions) and patient while we muddled around with our order. They have quite a few tables outside on a terrace overlooking the harbor. The view is nice (boats/ships go by) and in the evening you can see the colors change as the sun sets. Although Logan is just in front, there is minimal noise. There is the occasional disturbance from boats that pull up (engine noise and fumes) but that does not last long. Inside there is a nice bar that's hoppin' and more tables. Not a quiet place to dine but nice relaxed atmosphere.

I have been here twice and decided it's my new favorite spot. Both times I scored a table with a view, right on the harbor--it would be hard not to enjoy that! I loved the menu, a combination of old favorites from Legal's original menu in Inman Square (I remember it!) and more contemporary offerings. The swordfish salad was excellent. The pita dips and crostini appetizers are fun; the kalamata and fig dip was too heavy, but the roasted corn and tuna crostinis were both terrific. Lobster roll and lobster mac and cheese were very good. None of the portions were big but that was ok with us. The wine list included several decent bottles at $30 or under. You will need a reservation unless you go at an off hour.

The view here is gorgeous and the service is attentive, but beyond that I much prefer the other Legal Seafoods. The menu at this one is limited, the food itself was nothing special (unlike other Legals which I can happily rave about), the restaurant is so crowded that the view of the water is obscured, but most of all, it's so noisy that you have to practically shout to be heard by your dinner companion(s). Not for those who want to linger over our meal and chat while taking in the water view -- seems like a chaotic tourist trap.

Took some visitors to Legal. It is always good. Great time to be outside. Our server was outstanding but the time it took to get our meal was horrible. Our server apologized and brought us chowder so we would not eat our table, but cannot believe a Legal would put up with this time from the kitchen. I will be back cause it is in the neighborhood, but I hope they get their act together. They seemed to have a huge number of large groups so perhaps they should limit these to help the rest of us.

Food great but one click under the Chestnut Hill Legals. Perhaps because the baked stuffed lobster that we love was not on the menu but they prepared it for us. Many times if you go off menu the food is not exactly as you expected. That said, the entire experience was wonderful. Deck seating on the waterfront on a balmy day, very attentive service, and very good food. What better end of summer experience could one wish for!
