A word from Legal Harborside - Floor 1 Restaurant and Market
The first floor hull of Legal Harborside is a nod to Legal Sea Foods’ heritage, a fish market opened in 1950 in Inman Square, Cambridge that expanded in 1968 into a no-frills restaurant where guests sat on picnic tables.

Here you'll enjoy a casual menu of seafood favorites with a twist as well as shareable plates, pastas and pizzas made to order in an open kitchen. Choose to eat at one of the picnic tables for an authentic throwback experience or grab a seat at the oyster bar and watch the shuckers at work (up to 14 varieties of oysters are offered daily). Opt instead for the large elliptical bar where both wine and local beers are on tap or request patio seating, along Boston's HarborWalk. Other highlights include a "catch and release" trout pond and a retail market, with a fish monger on site, that offers fresh seafood, takeout and grab and go. Named a “Best New Restaurant” by Esquire, 2011.Continued

  • "We went in to legal for my moms birthday and it couldnt have been more wonderful! The service was fantastic and they really made us feel special! Plus the food was amazing.."

  • "We had an excellent meal with very friendly and attentive service. The view of the Boston harbor is a definite plus. The restaurant is all hard surfaces so it was very loud, which I guess qualifies for the "energetic" plus rating. A wonderful choice."

  • "Will always be a Legal's fan. However, due to the high volume of Harborside, they employ a person to go around and electronically moniotr the progress of each table so as to help determine availability etc...Was very disconcerning and made you feel rushed. In my opinion, totally took away from the "legal" experience so many of us have enjoyed in the past. Our sever was good and we had a problem with one meal and it was completely and quickly taken care of. Both server and food a great plus our opinion."

  • "We came to Legal Harborside for a celebration dinner with 14 family members for our daughter's graduation from Wentworth that took place next door at the pavilion. The Harborside staff made this special day with three generations of family members a truly outstanding family celebration. Santiago went out of his way to care for every member of our party with outstanding service. The food and drink were fabulous, the menu has something for everyone, and the view and open air feeling was wonderful. thank you for making this special day even more special."

  • "Saturday was our 40th anniversary we had a great lunch outside the view was great the weather was great the day was just great!!! When we told Holly {our server} it was our anniversary she just went out of her way to make the day special. Would recommend Legal Harbor side"

  • "Nothing better on a sunny summer Saturday than sitting dockside, sipping one of their creative cocktails or sangria and enjoying oysters from the raw bar (always a great selection from local waters in addition to some west coast favorites). Try the fried calamari with lemons, hot peppers and scallions, and also the highly addictive tempura green beans with harissa aoli."

  • "Great place to enjoy a snack if you are a seafood lover! Negative point, I'm from Canada, and the server didn't want to serve me alcool, even with a valid government ID showing i'm 25 years old... Saying she needed to see my passport... Disapointing, but overall experience was great!"

  • "In maybe 30 years of dining at Legal Seafoods I can't remember having a bad meal, or bad service. The company and management always do a fine job of keeping everything consistent— whether it's fried clams (yum) buffalo shrimp, or those rolls! Legal's may not always be the hippest, but it never, ever disappoints. Harborside has the advantage of being a beautiful restaurant overlooking the water. It is truly a marvel to sit in, and whether sunny or rainy, the room is a character at your meal. A very very loud character! This is not the place for a quiet, romantic interlude, but if you want to be lost in the crowd, dry from the rain, or someplace great with your loud family, you could not do better."

  • "I enjoy steamed mussels, and the typical preparation with white wine and some garlic is delicious, however, we tried the mussels at Legal Harborside, and they were out of this world! An unusual preparation with curry, garlic, pineapple, and tomato! This was creative and the most delicious dish I have ever had at Legal. Try it and you will not be disappointed! Also dip your rolls into the soup that remains and you have a meal!"

  • "Went here at 5 pm (had a boat to catch) and were able to find a table. Come later and you will wait. More diverse menu than other Legals. Excellent service. However, requested terrace table and were seated just inside the doors. Turned out to be more comfortable, out of the wind; a better choice in the end. View not quite as spectacular (a narrow view bracketed by piers) as Daily Catch but better food. Your choice!"

  • "We ate on the first floor and asked for a table as close to the water as possible. It was a busy Sunday summer evening and we were seated right next to the outdoor seating area, so we had a wonderful view of the harbor. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed our food and the atmosphere tremendously. there was a concert next door but we couldn't really hear the music, just the beat of the drums because of the noise in the restaurant."

  • "It cost me $25.00 to park. Cesar salad wasn't good. My fish in foil was terrible and tacky. It should be in parchment paper and not reynolds aluminum wrap. There are no margarita glasses....just regular glasses...very poor for such an expensive restaurant. My server, Edwin, was fantastic."

  • "Legal Harborside Floor 1 was good. They were very accommodating when I was a bit late and lost the reservation. However, my friends and I wanted to go to floor 3 for few more drinks after lunch. That was almost impossible due to their "strict" criteria to get in. We were a group of 5 people and one of us was a friend visiting from another country. She had an ID issued from her originating country, but the staff wouldn't let her in because she did not have a passport. Mind you, our group of friends are in our late 30ties, early 40ties when it comes to our age. I was really disappointed with their staff and manager who "control" the crowd that enter the 3rd floor."

  • "Some of the Legal Seafoods have taken on a chain feel, but Legal Harborside manages to strike a balance between a modern ambiance and dockside oyster bar. Food is straightforward but great and high quality -- which is perfect, as far as I'm concerned."

  • "Great place for outside lunch or early dinner. Can't beat the view sitting outside on the deck and the food and service was typical Legal - VERY GOOD! Would rate it Excellent except for problems with making drinks. small problem but a place this size should have no problems making and using correct glasses for Common drinks - but they did. Just being picky, but otherwise a great place (almost as good as Floor 2)"

  • "We went for lunch as it was difficult to get a dinner reservation at the time we wanted. The food was great, service excellent, and location was fabolous. Will go there again."

  • "I brought a large group of very frail seniors to this location after going on a harbor cruise. The staff was UNBELIEVABLY accomodating, gracious and efficient! Far, far more than the Legal at Long Wharf, which I will NOT return to. The food was also outstanding at the Seaport Legal (as always at Legals) and the view wonderful. My only negative is a personal preference - the place is a hub of city activity. It is crazy busy with customers, staff, general city fervor. Far too hectic for this suburban country girl, but if you like excitement and being packed in with zillions of diners...this is your spot!"

  • "I am a big fan of Legal Seafoods and have been for twenty years. I have been to the Harborside since they opened on many occasions. Always good. This time we took out of town guests. Food was great, but the service was horrendous. Slow to take orders, failed to get orders correct, and then did not follow through. Legal has a variety of gluten free items. We asked for gluten free rolls for our gluten free guest as apps were served and we received them after four promptings once the meal was over. The time frame 1 1/2 hours. Two in our party ordered soup and we had to remind them about the soup as our entrees were being served. You saw management around but even though they were part of the service "team" they seemed lost."

  • "Legal Harborside lives up to its reputation for fresh seafood, well prepared. And you can't get any closer to the water at this location, or you'd be in it. The Portuguese stew, consisting of a variety of seafood in a rich chourico-flavored tomato broth, and a harbor view--what more could you ask for? This was our first visit to Legal Harborside. We'd gladly return."

  • "I was disappointed, as I was with a large party of 12 that included 5 children. The children were served first and were completely finished before the adults received their food. The service was slow. The food when it was finally served was excellent"

  • "This is my 3rd time to legal harborside but i have been dining at all legals for over 30 years. The service was ok but over the years it has become inconsistent. Also the bathrooms were filthy. The server forgot one of the appetizers. As always when you mention you are not happy about something -- management steps in and insures you are satisfied. Much appreciated and I will return to Legal --"

  • "I went on a Friday at 530pm. The place was mobbed. I was promptly seated outside for great views of the harbor. I was very impressed that they were very busy but still felt like I was important customer. The waitress (pleasant & accommodating) arrived shortly after I was seated asking for drink orders. Drinks arrived promptly, she wanted to take my order, but I wasn't because of all the delicious choices, so I asked for more time. She returned in 5 mins to take my order. The apps arrived with in 5-10 mins, main course 20-25 mins later. The food was great, Portuguese Seafood Stew and my date had the Trout. The Stew had lots of shrimp, mussels, fish and clam. My date said the Trout was incredible. I will definitely go again!"

  • "Heard about this group of restaurants from colleagues - so tried it with the family in Boston. Reasonably priced seafood and great location in the waterfront area. Fish & chips were excellent and all of the other entrees were very tasty. Decent kids menu and we arrived late, but didn't have any problem with the kids there. They were packed, so be sure & get a reservation !"

  • "I've been to Legals Harborside many times, but this visit left me feeling disappointed in the food department. Ambiance is unbeatable- and I'll probably be back due to the location alone. However, my fish tacos were burnt so much that the shell was more like a tortilla chip (very hard to eat), and the crab "salad" didn't turn out to be a salad you'd expect (read: lettuce). A simple revision to the menu description or help from the waitstaff could fix this."
