A word from Legal Harborside - Floor 1 Restaurant and Market
The first floor hull of Legal Harborside is a nod to Legal Sea Foods’ heritage, a fish market opened in 1950 in Inman Square, Cambridge that expanded in 1968 into a no-frills restaurant where guests sat on picnic tables.

Here you'll enjoy a casual menu of seafood favorites with a twist as well as shareable plates, pastas and pizzas made to order in an open kitchen. Choose to eat at one of the picnic tables for an authentic throwback experience or grab a seat at the oyster bar and watch the shuckers at work (up to 14 varieties of oysters are offered daily). Opt instead for the large elliptical bar where both wine and local beers are on tap or request patio seating, along Boston's HarborWalk. Other highlights include a "catch and release" trout pond and a retail market, with a fish monger on site, that offers fresh seafood, takeout and grab and go. Named a “Best New Restaurant” by Esquire, 2011.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Went for a group dinner to celebrate a birthday. Service was fantastic and the view just perfect. It was very loud, which made for difficulty in conversing as a group, but it was a wonderful night. The restaurant was very sensitive to gluten allergies and very generous to make the birthday special!"

  • "Great to be by the harbor, but very noisy due to the boats. Food was good, but very small portions and extemely expensive with a limited menu! Parking is a challenge therefore need to use valet service which adds to the cost of the dining. Will stay in the burbs and go to Legal there."

  • "Haven't been to Legal's in many years...it got too boring. That's all changed. A couple of apps and a dinner were great. Buffalo shrimp was the standout...anything but boring. Can't recall the entree fish, but it was over a tasty mole sauce. Very good beer list too. Great setting & views. We'll be back."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised to find that the views, ambience, and service were all high quality even though the entrees were reasonably priced. The prices were on par with mediocre mega-chain restaurants but the experience and the food were so much more."

  • "We enjoyed our time because my boyfriend and I were bringing friends who wanted a great lobster experience and they got it. The view was lovely, the weather was nice. The crab on my big bowl salad was so tasty. We always like the hot bread."

  • "A group of us dined there on a busy Saturday night. We had reservations for 2 separate tables for a total of 22 people. We were pleasantly surprised upon arrival that we accommodated to be seated all together..Our waiter was very friendly and courteous! He was exceptional! The food was amazing and we were not rushed! It was a wonderful experience with an amazing view, excellent service and food!"

  • "We made reservations at least 1 month ahead of time, for dinner before the Sarah McLachlan concert. The place was packed and I was worried we would have to wait. NOT! We got our table within 5 minutes, right on the water. Service and food was fantastic. We will return!"

  • "Excellent food and service, would definitely recommend making on line reservation, requested table viewing ocean and celebrating 60th b day. The entire resturant staff was fabulous. We walked in for our alloted time was seated immediately, they surprised our birthday girl with a special dessert. They really filled all our reservation requests! It was a great experience. I would definitely recommend and will visit again when in Boston."

  • "Can't be the view at this place. We had a nice table on the patio overlooking the water. Service was a little slow but only because I had two children who were a little restless. Hostesses were great. Pleasant, friendly and seated us a quickly as possible even though we were early. Very professional. Food was great. Large pours for the wine which was great, given the $11 per glass price tag."

  • "We had a 9:30 reservation but were not seated until 10. Although annoyed we were apologized to and were given complimentary appetizers and perhaps the best table in the restaurant, corner outside overlooking harbor. Our compliments to the manager this is how you should make up to customers. Food and service is always exceptional."

  • "We asked for a table on the patio and it was worth the wait. nice view and less noisy than indoors. I was surprised that crab cakes were not included on the menu. I ordered grilled scallops and they were not cooked all the way thru. My waiter promptly took them back and I was given an new meal very quickly. The drinks were pricey, but this is Boston. Great place to go before seeing a show at the Pavillion."

  • "Food was overall disappointing. We had gone for my father's bday and since it was Legal we had high expectations. First the fried calamari was under-cooked and they had run out of cherry peppers so instead they fried lemons and threw them into the dish. Fried lemons are not tasty. The fried whole belly clams were just OK. The portuguese seafood stew was over cooked and salty. The shining moment was my crabmeat roll. Lots of crab with a light peppery dressing. I might go back just for this dish! The noise level was extremely high. We had to yell across our small 4 person table. Besides the negatives, the view was outstanding and the service was nice."

  • "Fantastic ambiance, with a million dollar view, and even better service.. Our party shared an appetizer pizza that was crispy, tasty, and perfect with my Rose wine. My niece's fish and chips was perfectly cooked, tasty and not greasy. My husband had a swordfish gyro that was also done to perfection. I enjoyed the wild, wood grilled salmon along with Japanese eggplant and Swiss charred side dishes...Yummy. We all enjoyed dessert and coffee, which were also delicious..A FUN,FUN, FUN lunch was had by all. Valet parking for lunch is a bonus!"

  • "I made a reservation a few days in advance, but we still waited almost an hour to be seated. Then, they sat us outside on a soaking wet deck on an extremely humid day. It ruined my appetite. The menu is pretty limited, and they refused to serve anything from the sushi menu (you need to sit on another floor...thanks for mentioning that during reservation process). Btw, the bisque tastes like cornstarch. The lobster roll is utterly flavorless. How about a little salt, pepper, mayonaise? I understand the status behind the name "Legal," however, you can rely on a good reputation for only SO long before reputation changes. Yes, this place has a fun, young vibe, BUT quality & service needs some fine tuning."

  • "We had reservations for 6pm for a business dinner. We arrived at 5:15pm and grabbed a drink on the 3rd floor. We thought we were entering a club. We had to go back downstairs to get our IDs checked and get stamped. It was very loud in there, but a beautiful view. After our 1st drink, we headed back down for our dinner RSVPS. It was still loud on the 1st level for dinner, we could barely hear the waitress give the specials. We put in an order for appetizers and ordered another round. Our apps came out but never received our drinks. One of our guys got up to ask what happened, she said we were cut off. She feared for our life!! Mind you, were all taking cabs. We were loud and just having fun. They lost out on about $1000."

  • "We decided to go to Harborside after a matinee. We arrived and the place was very busy but we were seated within 5 minutes. Not knowing the place, I had requested a window table. Turns out they push the windows back to open to the deck overlooking Boston Harbor. We were seated just inside with a nice view of the water and planes taking off from Logan. It was a perfect evening with a gentle breeze. The food was well prepared as we are used to at legal. The waiter was congenial and helpful. It was the perfect way to spend a summer evening. We most definitely will return."

  • "We had great food! The waiter was very nice. The service was slow until the table was needed then we were flooded with people. Seems like there is work to do on the pacing of things. We sat with empty plates for 15-20 min."

  • "On a nice summer evening this is a great place to dine al fresco provided one doesn't mind an overwhelming bar scene with enormous foot and auto traffic in the area. I was disappointed in the food though as my disappointingly thin cut of swordfish was overcooked and dry and looked like an institutional, pre-cut, small portion...............a huge disappointment and more like something I would have expected at an Applebee's type establishment rather than a seafood specialist. Go for the indoors / outdoors ambiance and active bar scene vibe but no longer consider this place as somewhere to bring out of town guests for good seafood."

  • "Despite a very busy restaurant, service was outstanding and food was delicious. Great table facing the water from just inside the restaurant. On the menu there's a great mix of dishes from Legal's original location in Inman Sq. Cambridge, MA. New dishes also available, including small plates to get you going even before appetizers and entrees."

  • "Love Legal in general, and our food was great. Loved the buffalo shrimp appetizer & the lemon zest in the fried clams app. Surprised the hubby didn't get a hand-wipe with his lobster and there were no crackers with my lobster bisque (I just give them to the kids). Blueberry Collins cocktail, yummy, great for summer. Pavilion next door seemed to have a band "warming up" which I thought would be great free entertainment but turned out to be booming loud to the point of inducing headaches. Great scene with local boats coming right up to dock but super loud. If you're in the mood for boisterous you'll like it. Bisque was delicious and lobster was cooked perfectly. For the price we paid, we expected a bit more but you're paying for the "scenery""

  • "The view is great, and it's awesome that Sam Adams and Harpoon Breweries have specialty beers available only here. The shrimp cocktail was really good. Our entries were nothing special. And the service was absolutely terrible."

  • "Our party of 3 enjoyed the buffalo shrimp appetizer, oysters, the swordfish gyro and a tuna entree. All were very good and fresh-tasting. Noisy, though, on a Friday evening at 6pm, had to shout across the table to be heard. Great view with the doors open to the water."

  • "Booked in advance for a party of five, requesting outdoor patio seating. It was a Thursday evening on a beautiful summer night. The place was hopping! I figured we wouldn't be able to get a great seating location even though I booked in advance. Well, I was wrong. We had a perfect table location on the outside patio...great views of the water and all the people enjoying an evening on their boats....with wonderful music coming from a concert at the nearby Bank of America pavilion. The waiter had a great personality (he even helped us play a little trick on the person who was late for the meal) and the food was perfect. Watched the jets from Logan Airport soar above us. Couldn't have had a better evening."

  • "We had dinner here with a party of 8, and had a perfect table. The food of course was delicious. The Tuna burger is probably the best thing on the menu, and the white sangria is the best! We ate early, ( 5pm) and stayed til at least 7pm."

  • "We really enjoyed our evening, and would go again. The food was nothing special, but a really fun place. My parents were visiting from Calif, and my dad had the Sea Bass, my mom had the salmon. Both were fine, not remarkable. I Anna's Boston Schrod, it was fine. My daughter had the kids' cheese pizza and it was just ok. The calamari app was delicious, esp the green peppers in it. Staff was very friendly and professional, view was GREAT!"

  • "My wife and I stopped into Legal on our last night in Boston celebrating our anniversary. We were seated immediately despite the crowd and arriving over thirty minutes prior to our reservation time. Our service included the perfect balance of local attitude and hospitality as our server was honest and helpful in picking out some late night bites. I wish we had a bigger appetite to try more, but after the chowder, a few apps and a couple of drinks, we had to call it quits. Great place with views from every table and perfect night for the open air inside."
