A word from Legal Harborside - Floor 1 Restaurant and Market
The first floor hull of Legal Harborside is a nod to Legal Sea Foods’ heritage, a fish market opened in 1950 in Inman Square, Cambridge that expanded in 1968 into a no-frills restaurant where guests sat on picnic tables.

Here you'll enjoy a casual menu of seafood favorites with a twist as well as shareable plates, pastas and pizzas made to order in an open kitchen. Choose to eat at one of the picnic tables for an authentic throwback experience or grab a seat at the oyster bar and watch the shuckers at work (up to 14 varieties of oysters are offered daily). Opt instead for the large elliptical bar where both wine and local beers are on tap or request patio seating, along Boston's HarborWalk. Other highlights include a "catch and release" trout pond and a retail market, with a fish monger on site, that offers fresh seafood, takeout and grab and go. Named a “Best New Restaurant” by Esquire, 2011.

I had gone here literally a week before with coworkers and the food was excellent. So i decided to go here for a friend's birthday lunch. I ordered the crabmeat salad bit into half a dozen crab shells! Awful...

Our waitress was spectacular- she was fun, fast, and knowledgeable. She went above and beyond with my gluten and dairy allergy- not only was she very well-educated on what I could and couldn't eat, she also gave me fantastic suggestions on how I could have my food prepared and double-checked everything with the chef and manager. The seasonal salad was one of the best salads I ever ate. The dressing was divine and pumpkin seeds were a great addition. I would go back for not only the food but also hoping to have the same waitress- she was really a gem.

We were a group of 14, adults and kids. The wait staff was very accommodating, always there serving, answering questions, etc. with a smile. Most loved their food, however, I had the crabmeat salad and it wasn't a great choice. I was sorry that I didn't get fried fish and chips as others did and they said it was very good. The view from the table was great, right on the water. We will definitely go again.

Made day-of reservations for Floor 1 (the more casual dining floor -- though still very lovely) for some work colleagues and myself. We were seated promptly, the food was delicious, and our server did a great job. My only complaint is that it was rather noisy; it was pretty happening for a Tuesday night. But beyond that, everything was a total thumbs up for me.

I have eaten here before several times. The space is loud, but roomy and attractively designed. Ate downstairs on this visit at a table with benches by the window. Service was good and appropriately attentive. Prices were what you would expect. The claim chowder was, as always, delicious. The rest of the food was uninspired and often tasteless. Appetizers we tried were sloppy (smoked salmon), difficult (spreads were served with impossibly thick and hard, overly baked pitas) or too salty (short rib). The lobster was bland and tough. We had plenty of fries however: huge piles of them whenever they were served. Simply not food that wows or delights. Still, because of the scene and setting, we had a fun time.

This was our second visit. Loved the lobster meal, however my friend's sirloin steak wasn't as good. The service was very good despite the fact that it was quite busy. I enjoyed the ambiance most when it was still light outside as the harbor views from a window table or the rooftop bar are terrific. I would definitely recommend this spot, but do make a reservation.

My colleagues and I spent almost $700 dollars and yet the bartender and the manager treated us with disrespect, maybe because we were 6 women of color. He told me flatly and in a disrespectful tone he was not going to serve me a drink because we had been in the restaurant for a long time and I had had a enough. I had not served me before and had no idea of my alcohol intake; my colleagues and I were even tipsy and yet he decided he wasn't going to serve us. I was shocked, angry and confused. The manager backed him up but proposed me and my friends go upstairs for drinks. The night became a nightmare. As hard-working, professional black women we felt disrespected; white customers were being served all around us.

It was fun having a cocktail on the rooftop bar. The wine list was very suitable particularly the half bottle Cake Bread Chardonnay. I would like to see more half bottles to choose from as my husband does not drink white wine and therefore a full bottle would be too much for me.

While visiting the city of Boston, a friend recommended this restaurant. We were very disappointed with the overall ambiance, and furnishings of this restaurant. You are seated on wooden chairs that are not comfortable and the plain bare wooden table top looks more like a picnic table. During the entire time while eating we felt as though we were being rushed and our server said he was being moved to another section and someone else would assist us. The new server assigned to our table came once and never returned. We asked for more coffee, which never arrived and the fastest service given was paying the bill. They just want you to eat fast and leave. Do not linger to have conversation with your guest at the table.

As usual, food was excellent. But there are odd bench seats for parties of four at the window. The seats are not comfortable without backrests, and what's worse is that the benches are so closely packed together that your back is constantly bumping into the person behind you. I realize that the restaurant is trying to cram in as many seats as possible, but this is strange and unacceptable for a not-inexpensive restaurant.

Everything about this place was perfect. We arrived about 20 min early for our reservation but were seated immediately anyway. We were on our honeymoon and were seated at a window table with the most breathtaking view of Boston's inner harbor. Our drinks came out quickly and apps order was put in shortly after. The stuffed artichokes are the star of the 1st floor menu. The scallops within were phenomenal and tender beyond belief. Hubby raved about the rainbow trout all the next day. My sirloin was quite literally the best I've ever had... Like butter in your mouth. Will definitely visit again.

We have been frequent guests at The Mooring, and we look forward to it every time. They get it - staff is friendly, welcoming, and efficient. Service at the table is professional and thoroughly knowledgeable. Food is presented in an attractive manner and is always delicious. Specials and à la carte items are thoughtfully assembled. Desserts, something we rarely order, were wonderful. It is a bit pricey and a good-sized group will set you back a bit. Fear not: it's worth every dime.

Yum, yum, yum. Fantastic "Legal" dining right on the harbor. Great service, fun atmosphere and amazing food and drink. I had been I the middle of the summer and have experienced their summer menu, and now have had their Fall menu - both amazing - and full of "old favorites" as well as new eclectic delicious dishes. I would highly recommend Legal Harborside in any season, and the reasonably priced Valet makes it super easy. Go enjoy!

The food is typical Legal fair, good and consistent but nothing special. We went on a Wednesday evening and they were quite busy, our waitress seemed to be more concerned with the table next to us and talking trash with the other wait staff right behind us. The noise level in this place was deafening and everyone in our party left with a headache. The view of the harbor is the best thing this place has going for it.
