A word from Left Bank
Left Bank is at its core an American tavern, inspired by Greenwich Village itself, and influenced by European sensibilities. From our landmarked building in Manhattan's historic district, large bay windows on both sides reflect our open-book, unpretentious style of cooking and service. Our food is inspired by our local farmers, recipes of days gone by, and the relationships we have with our guests. Left Bank continues to evolve with an entrepreneurial spirit and a sincere desire to serve simple, wholesome, delicious food and drink to New Yorkers and passersby.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Left Bank is a welcoming and informal place to have a great meal. The service has always been topnotch. The servers know their food and aren't afraid to give opinions when asked and steer the diners in the right direction. The barperson makes generous and creative cocktails. We've had their dumplings, salads, soups, fish dishes and vegetarian dinners and always left happy and satisfied."

  • "We'v been here a few times. Their chicken is so good, you end up remembering it and wanting more. Very fresh and inventive menu, but not extensive, which is good. The Lobster puffs are great too. The potatoes make you fight with your meal mates for your share. The steak was perfectly prepared as ordered."

  • "They changed the style and menu this week (April 2014) to more casual bistro tavern. Still excellent food but more lively (loud) inside. I'd never seen the restaurant as crowded as it was on Friday evening. Still excellent food and the service was good. I will return. Hostess was was very helpful."

  • "dined here recently with my wife to celebrate our wedding anniversary and before attending a show so glad that we did and we would highly recommend that others do as well part of a charming and walkable area of the West Village Once some external construction is completed there will likely be outdoor/cafe style seating and dining as well we visited during their happy hour (5-7PM) which worked well with a show we planned to attend later in the evening the menu is varied and eclectic and of great value during this timeframe--$20 for two small plates and an app; or one app and one pasta excellent and gracious service We certainly hope to return!"

  • "The best roast chicken I ever had--despite Barbuto their neighbor up the street that I love getting kudos for the same. Fab meal, great service, lovely ambiance. This spot has changed hands a number of times and I hope they do well!"

  • "Food was very good and our waiter attentive (even though he never brought us bread and all the other tables had). Why do I give them a 1 Star?. Plain and simple, they have a table where there should be one. We were sitting by the bathroom which is also by the bar which is also by the kitchen. So every 30 seconds someone will hit my chair as I was trying to eat. You may not think its a big deal but most of the people hitting my chair where the busboys and they didn't apologize once! After the meal I was looking for my phone In my jacket (which was stepped on many times) and a busboy hit me hard on the elbow as he was running to the kitchen and didn't even turn around to apologize"

  • "My husband, a friend, and I had a great meal here. Their steak tartare is the best I've had! The lobster puffs were also to die for."

  • "We live in the neighborhood and eat at Left Bank frequently. The menu, while short, is varied. The dishes reflect the seasons outside and, sometimes, the weather. The chicken is always delicious, as are the Brussels sprouts. The pastas are good. The room is unpretentious and the service willing if not always polished. We are fortunate to have this excellent bistro as out "local"."

  • "Went during restaurant week. Enjoyed the shaved brussels sprouts appetizer, iron roasted chicken and chocolate brownie a la mode. Everything was delicious and for me... it was the perfect brownie for dessert.... no nuts and the perfect consistency between cake and fudge. Definitely worth it."

  • "I went with friends for RW dinner. Our server was rude and rushed. She ignored us when we asked for water, instead helping tables of people with similar backgrounds to hers. The Brussels Sprouts appetizer had bites that were under-seasoned and bites that were too salty. The short ribs were very fatty. The menu said it was served with hominy yet the plate was covered in soggy corn nuts/kernels. I had the brownie a la mode for dessert which was nothing special. Other friends had the maple syrup pie and they said it was too sweet to eat. The menu said it was served with creme fraiche and I didn't see any on the plate. All of the desserts were swimming in confectioner's sugar. While the restaurant had a great feel, I won't be back."

  • "Eaten once at the bar and was a very nice atomosphere, barman, cocktails, service and food. Then wanted to check the seated experience with a group of 4 friends and was equally enjoyable! The small size restaurant makes it ideal for a small group to spend a great night! Food was delicious, but for desserts the menu was thin, so we checked out and went to another place nearby (The Marrow) where the patisserie chef did a wonderful work, along with the barman!"

  • "Great offering on the restaurant week menu. Many places had limited options, which is why we chose Left Bank in the first place, to see some variety. Went with a chef friend and another experience food industry friend who agreed that the menu items were particularly interesting. Would definitely return and check out the regular menu, as we were told that it changes a lot on a daily basis. Fish was fresh, lamb was very well seasoned and cooked. Pasta didn't seem to be homemade but still delicious. Cocktails are tiny, should have gone with the option of a $25 extra for wine pairing. Fun for a date, with friends, or a mixed group."

  • "Visited Left Bank as part of Restaurant Week, when intrigued by the menu. As a frequenter of Restaurant Week, I was happy with the menu and very happy with the meal. Overall, we had a fabulous meal and 4 out of 4 of our party will return post-Resto Week. Why didn't we know about this restaurant before? Now we do! Thank you!"

  • "We came to Left Bank for Restaurant Week and could not be more pleased with our choice! The food was amazing, the restaurant is very charming, and getting to walk around the West Village is always a treat! We can't wait to come back!"

  • "We were served both dishes in 45 minutes - we weren't even going to a show! Major production line - would not recommend if you want a dining experience"

  • "Wonderful Mongolian dumplings, trout filet delicious, unusual display, lemon tart perfect. It got a little loud when the restaurant was full."

  • "I would recommend this to any of my friends. It's a bit crowded but the food and ambiance were great. the servers were very nice too."

  • "We came in during restaurant week- waited 45 minutes for our starters. When they arrived within 2 min our mains did too. Then we ordered desert and when we got to get up after 15 minutes as we still didn't get it- I told the waiter that it has been too long. He said the brownies took 15 min - but we never ordered the brownies. Disappointing service - average food- desert was v good however!"

  • "Dumplings had a great fresh flavor! Lemon tart was nothing special but good. Farfalle and mushrooms was excellent and served in the perfect portion ."

  • "Enjoyable late-Valentine's Day dinner. Nice atmosphere, but seating in main dining room is a little cramped and noisy when full. Perhaps better to sit in the cozier bar area? Food was good, but not great. The cassoulet was the best if our choices! Wines by the glass are interesting, but expensive and dessert selection is "weak". Service was friendly and efficient. Overall a good experience, but not outstanding."

  • "Appetizers we liked were sold out, but they had good alternatives. We got the steak tartare and the dumplings. This was delicious as they blend the minced meat with olive oil and not egg yolk. Much lighter and much more delicate. The dumplings, not really there for the price. Then an interim course of pasta with pork belly which was great, but a little overwhelming due to the fatty pork belly. Share this. Then entres: The chicken was moist and very delicious. Only tried better one other place: 11 Madison. The beef short ribs were also very moist and delicious, but on the heavy side. Good portions, so no desert. We went to the small bar where the awesome bar man thrilled us with the Black Forrest coctail. Great place + service, recommended!"

  • "Loved Left Bank. Can't wait to go back. Felt like a foodies' paradise. But not to the point that an average eater like me couldn't enjoy a nice glass of wine and a phenomenal dinner. Definitely a gem in the Village. Drop in and see for yourself."

  • "Everything about the dining experience at "Left Bank" is a delight. The changing menu has the best of the season, the pastas are made fresh in house which makes all of the difference, the serving staff is knowledgeable and allows one to enjoy the evening rather than pressuring you through to make choices, eat and get out! The bar area has a neighborhood ambience where it is obvious that local "villagers" come to enjoy the end of their day and each other. It is not a "scene". It is the kind of neighborhood restaurant that has become nearly extinct in the West Village, and indeed, the city. As my title implores, "Just go!""

  • "We went on a Sunday night. It was late. Our group just arrived from the West Coast and we were hungry. They welcomed us like regulars and we had a great meal. The food was tasty. Try the roasted chicken."

  • "We went on a Sunday night at 6:30 PM. Had lovely wine and appetizers (several) and the chicken with brussels sprouts. The chicken dish, their signature I believe, was so good, I want to go back for more. The brussels sprout salad was fabulous, never had such a dish before. Service was excellent. The Maple pie was good, but was too small to share, and we always get just one dessert and share it. By the time we left the place was filling up with some larger dinner parties. We live two blocks away from this place, and I feel many people there were neighborhood folks as well, and it's quite a nice addition to the neighborhood. Most diners were 35+ and low diner conversation easy, but were told a younger crowd inhabits on weekends."

  • "Went to Left Bank for a 1 year anniversary dinner with my girlfriend and although NYC was in the midst of a deep freeze and the area of the restaurant where we sat was a bit chilly, the food ambiance and atmosphere were great. Service was fine and knowledgeable. The Lamb shank I ordered was cooked perfectly and portioned very well. Overall a great meal aside from the heating issues, the wait staff was very accommodating to the elements."

  • "My husband and I decided to have our NYE dinner there. We had a 3-course pre-fix which was amazing. From the app, to the main, to the dessert–everything was delicious. My only gripe was my main dish. My husband ordered the duck breast (which was great!) and it was a huge portion. I had the scallops and I only had two pieces–and one of them was pretty small. It looked like an appetizer to be quite honest. I wish there were at least 4 because it was so good. Other than that, it was a great dining experience."

  • "Left Bank was great. We did the New Year Eve Prix fix. Everything was delicious. The atmosphere was beautiful. Withe lights are outside which was nice and romantic. But this place is still good for singles too."

  • "This was the second time dining at the Left Bank and I'm sure there will be many more. The food is really tasty and well presented with a very pleasant, attentive, helpful staff. In a wonderful corner of the west village, this restaurant mixes just the right amount of trendy with sophistication but does tend to be a bit noisy. Have not been disappointed with any of the entrees and found the grilled chicken to be the tastiest and moistest of any chicken I've had in a long long time. Highly recommend this cute new restaurant that opened its doors to those of us without power during Sandy. What a neighbor."

  • "Left Bank is a gem of the West Village and one of my favorite Manhattan restaurants. Left Bank is a place where at once I feel at home and a special guest. As a hedonistic people person LB offers what I love - a warm, courteous and engaging staff (critical to me for the experience) combined with a brilliant Chef who has created standard dishes served with consistent flavors and the ever-changing dishes that constantly impress me with his skill, authenticity and creativity. A must for all New Yorkers!"

  • "We all got different pastas, each of which has its own unique texture and flavors, and all of which were thoroughly enjoyed. The vegetarian option stays perfectly hot in its ceramic dish, and the fontina cheese and mushroom ragu are amazingly gooey and full of spice. I loved my black fettuccini with calamari--firm pasta and a light tomato based sauce. My seared octopus appetizer was similarly yummy--crispy on the outside with a zesty caper sauce. The layout and structure of the restaurant allow for a "buzz" of energy w/o being too loud. Our server, Zi, and his fellow staff were excellent--unintrusively attentive and efficient. Ultimately, our experience was an absolute slam dunk, and we will certainly be back."

  • "We had a lovely dinner after a play at the Lucille Lorteil theater. If you are looking for dinner after an off Broadway show, this is a great one. The atmosphere is quiet and the staff is very attentive. I had a pasta ( a little salty) and my husband had a delicious, juicy chicken. I'd go back in a minute."

  • "I've gotten used to crowded, loud, overpriced, and mediocre food. Left bank was a very pleasant surprise. For the first time in a long time my husband and I could have our own conversation and not be part of the others happening right next to us. The food was amazing. The bass was perfect. The service was great as well. not in your face. A very personal experience, great for romance or celebration. Extremely happy to have found this place and already looking forward to coming back."

  • "I was looking for OK food at a decent price in the W. Village, and got a lovely meal with pleasant, attentive service that well exceeded my expectations. After reading a couple of tepid reviews, I feel as though my cautious optimism was exponentially rewarded. My only regret is that I didn't have time to relax and have dessert & coffee. Great value, IMHO, and I'd def'ly return or recommend to someone."
