A word from Left Bank Santana Row
Left Bank is an authentic Parisian-style brasserie located in San Jose's vibrant Santana Row. Open since 2003, Left Bank transports guests to a quaint brasserie in Paris, where diners feast upon classic French cuisine in a charming brasserie setting along the boulevard, where people watching is at its best. Inside, the wonderful energy of an authentic French brasserie is in the air. Boasting Santana Row's largest bar, Left Bank is a place to see and be seen.

The large, casual elegant main dining room offers everything from a family table of 20, to a quiet, romantic table for two. The open exhibition kitchen provides onlookers a window into the magic our chefs create. Whether simply sipping a pastis or enjoying a full meal, diners capture the true feeling of the Rive Gauche in Paris.

We ordered both specials, a duck dish and steak with peppercorn sauce. both were cooked perfectly. the sides were all fantastic, instead of being an afterthought. We also tried the gazpacho and french onion soup for appetizers, again, both superb. would recommend for special occasions.

We were 15 minutes late but it was not a problem. We got a great table. Our waiter was so friendly and brought us bread and wine. The steak I had melted in my mouth and my fiancé had the most delicious fish. The dessert was ice cream with coffee and chocolate sauce. Yum. I'm looking forward to another night out at Left Bank.

This was perhaps our fifth visit to the Left Bank. We ordered drinks, an appetizer (steak tartar), and entrées (duck and skirt steak). Drinks and appetizer appeared within 10 minutes. We waited an hour for the entrées. We had to buy more drinks to stave off the hunger. Perhaps most irritating was that the food runner brought my steak out five minutes before he brought my wife's duck. We love the food at this restaurant, but for the price, the overall experience should be better. Our bill was $119 (before tip), and dinner took us two hours. My advice to anyone considering the Left Bank is to go early to beat the crowd of early diners, otherwise, you may spend more time and money at the restaurant than you had intended.

We had a 7:45 PM reservation on a busy Friday night but arrived early at 6:50 PM. We wanted to stroll around Santana Row for a while and wanted to know if we would have the flexibility of being seated when and where we wanted - and the answer was a cheerful yes! Our martinis were very good and so was the food. The server Kyle was excellent. Overall, a very enjoyable evening!

It was a fun place. The escargot was a little rubbery but the flavor was great; the oysters were perfectly fresh and healthy; the salad was flavourful. All in all, it is a great place for lunch, you can people-watch on the Row, with a great view of the street and sights. A good time, priced reasonably. I'd have liked to see a larger wine list, especially with a sauterne or two for the ladies. That said, I didn't partake of the most famously good dishes on the menu. Next time, I will try more.

Our appointment was 6pm and we arrived 10 minutes early. The reception told us that we would be seated shortly. We were not seated until almost 6:30pm with half of the restaurant was still empty. Waitress took forever to take our order and served the drinking water and bread to our table. Food took another 40+ minutes to arrive after we placed the orders. I will NOT return to this place again.

I would not recommend this restaurant. The food was incredibly disappointing. The calamari appetizer had more fried onions in it than calamari, the trout had so many bones that it was inedible, and the green beans were overcooked. Only decent item was dessert.

I felt that the service was good and we were not rushed. We spent 2 hours for dinner. It was a Friday night, so it was very busy and the noise level was a bit on the loud side. As a senior this made it difficult at times to carrying on a conversation. It was my birthday so that made it special. I would return again. I had enough food left over for lunch and dinner the following day!

My husband is French and quite discerning when it comes to his native menu. He said it was incredibly authentic and he could eat there for a week straight. Personally, I enjoyed the classic Steak Frites and the kids were well taken care of. The host and server were great. It's a lively place where you can eat like an adult, but enjoy the company of your kids without bothering the other patrons. Fantastic meal.

We were very disappointed in the "upgraded" fondue . . . with soft carrots (not even crisp, yuk), baby pickles (who dips pickles in cheese??), mystery meat, small potatoes and a little bread. Don't get it. We always come for the BREAD and fondue. Also, the skirt steak salad is no longer on the menu which was another disappointment. Overall our luncheon just wasn't up to par as it has been in the past. My girlfriends and I get together there every 3-4 months . . . we're now considering looking for a new place.

Went my wife for a night out. Salad and onion soup were excellent. Then steak and fries were very tasty, cooked as requested. My wife really enjoyed her salmon, a Although it was small and she liked salmon at cheesecake factory better. We had a dessert with ice cream and espresso poured over if that was tasty as long as there was ice cream but the scoop was small and then there was just a big bowl of whipped cream. I'd prefer if they gave a smaller bowl with less whipped cream. My overall impression was that the food was and service were very good but value was mixed.
