The food is good to excellent and the service is excellent, maybe a little too excellent. Your plate is cleared almost at the same time that you set your knife and fork down from your last bite. Although you have to ask for more water, bread and butter while dining, your wine glass is never empty and your table is bisseled once the dishes are cleared. I love that it's located on Santana Row, so there are people about, great shopping, and a buzz in the air. The food is great and so are the Bloody Mary's. But the restaurant we had reservations at had run out of food shortly after sitting down to our 7 PM reservation. Fortunately, The Left Bank could seat 5 of us immediately, which is remarkable considering it was Mother's day!
The service was great, even though the restaurant was packed. The food was great too, I had the Beef Stew, which had great fresh peas to top it off! The only complaint I heard at the table was that a hamburger was over cooked, but, I'd claim that is the risk you take when you order it medium-well. Drinks were also nice, though the "infused bourbon" drink I had didn't mention what it was infused with. The star of tonight's specials was the apple cake with crispy bacon and sea salt caramel, well worth the $8 price tag. They moved us to the empty private banquet room, quiet and inviting for all who hadn't seen each other since last year. Service was top-shelf, gracious and complete. Food, as usual, was excellent. Enjoyed the pork belly appetizer and for our entrees, the duck and risotto respectively. {This is the best restaurant in town for duck!} With our dinner we had a bottle of the 2008 Petit Manou which is a good value at $50. And finally for dessert we had the profiteroles complete with chocolate sauce. Most times we come here for dinner and I get steak frite, which you must try! Also the best I have had including France.
