  • Catering: Our Salles De Amis is a beautiful private mezzanine. You can choose to overlook the main dining room from the balcony, or enclose the room completely with our lush velvet curtains. The sunny yellow walls, warm mahogany accents and vividly colored French posters make this the perfect setting for your occasion. Set up however you wish, the room is large enough for a party of 60, yet intimate enough for a smaller group of 10 or 20. Have a much larger group? We are happy to close the entire restaurant. Open since 1998 and completely re-modeled in 2008, Left Bank offers a casual, charming brasserie setting where diners feast upon classic southern French cuisine.   • "My family had an overall nice experience at LB in Menlo Park. The ambience and the food was to our satisfaction. However, overall service level and coordination between service staff could be improved. We had to wait to long for our glasses of champagne to start off the evening. Our main courses were served as our shared but finished appetizers were still on the table, which made the food presentation look very messy. The main dishes arrived without the staff checked our cutlery, we had to ask for knifes and forks needed. We would again visit this restaurant for a relaxed Friday evening meal."

  • "Left Bank must have gotten a new chef in the past year! The food had been so-so, and in 2014, I have gone back 3 times and the food has been excellent every time! I had the lobster risotto, which was the Sunday night special, and it was excellent. My husband had the classic chicken dish, that is prepared like you are in France--crispy on the outside, but tender in the inside--again, delicious. We live in Menlo Park and it is so nice to have a great local restaurant to go to."

I'd been to the Santana Row location once before for lunch, and dinner was just as good! I had the Steak Frites, and my husband had their Cod dish - we also shared their cheese fondue appetizer. The hostess didn't smile a single time (to welcome us and when we left) and our server was clearly not attentive enough. She forgot the glasses for our sparkling water, forgot my wife's steak knife. I ordered two appetizers (instead of an entree), she brought them both at once..."

  • "The reservation through Open Table went very smoothly, and I was seated right away upon arrival. They kept an eye out for my lunch meeting partner and directed her to the table immediately, which was nice. Our waiter was being trained, and it was great to see their high level of training standards. The waitress doing the training stayed back and let the waiter she was training do the work, so they both didn't hover over us. Our order was taken seamlessly and correctly. Our waiter was attentive and kept things moving. Although it was busy, we had no trouble hearing each other and having a very nice lunch."

  • "We were seated in a timely manner. Gave us time to read menu. Ordered salad to share and their sea bass special to share. Salad was brought out in two plates...perfect. Fish was brought on one without extra plates to split. Then the whole fish dinner was not de-boned properly...tons of bones and irritating to eat..flavor was fine....but terrible to eat.....BUT...after complaining to waitress to tell chef to clean better, they took that entrée of the bill. Desert was good ..."

  • "I really like this restaurant, but the service needs to catch up with the food variety and quality. It tends to be too slow, though the waiters are mostly pleasant. One of the problems might be that my party was outside. Outside is quite nice, but a little cramped both with other diners and passersby. Lunch menu offers all kinds of food for all kinds of tastes--would be nice, though, if there were some more traditional French options as the bulk of the options are (modern California) french cuisine. Still a nice place for a meal and I'll go back."

Their guidance on the wine list is always spot on. It is good for a date, double date or groups. I'm from back east where I took reliable neighborhood bistros for granted. Now, I drive several towns over to experience it. Enjoy!"

  • "Good food; terrible service. We were seated in the main dining area. It took five minutes before someone brought us water. Another five minutes to get some bread. Almost another five minutes for our waitress to show up and take our drink order. We asked for a "flinty white wine". Waitress says, "Let me ask the bartender". She comes back several minutes later with a recommendation for a flinty RED wine. Dumb as a fence post. Ordered the duck breast. She came back five minutes later: "We're out of the duck breast". We had to ask for more bread. We had to ask for more water. Everyone in the restaurant is very busy. Busy busy. Too busy to actually serve you. I have been treated better at Olive Garden. Good luck."

  • "Haven't been here in a while, even though I grew up on Santa Cruz Ave. Very good as usual, they were nice to accomodate our "quiet table" request and gave us a booth even though we were only two. Foie Gras was amazing, and so was the Steak Tartare (very moist and flavorful) I was hoping to see the duck confit as I've always had in the past, but I understand if it's seasonal only. Keep up the good work, my only suggestion is the presentation of the menus. I understand the concept of French Bistro, but the plastic makes the restaurant very cheesy and downgrades the ambiance. You want the appeal of a Bistro in Paris on the Champs Elysees, but you are still in Menlo Park, so it should be a bit classier presentation."

  • "We dined here because they had some special pork items on the menu for only a few days. We tried two of them and they were delicious, well seasoned, tasty, and succulent. The wine, an Alsatian riesling, was not as dry as most Alsatians, which we liked. Our two disappointments were we had to change tables because the banquette that my wife sat on was so low the table was under her chin and I towered over her in a chair, and the dessert of Creme Brûlée du Jour was a misnomer as it is the same old creme brûlée every day. And remember that Left Bank is very noisy. The tables are very close to each other, and it can be hard to communicate across the table because of all the surrounding conversations and the resultant din in a large dining area."

  • "This experience was characteristically disappointing. You sit down wanting it to be fun, good food and to live up to its potential. You end up trying harder than it does. The food is not exciting, as if it was mass produced. No creativity, no great flavors, sauces, etc. And the service was terrible. We were left alone at a table for 2 and the waitress in the end spontaneously admitted she had forgotten about us. The ambience is hectic in a frenetic way, not bustling energy that you can enjoy. Overall ho-hum. Despite the cache, if we go back it will be with limited expectations."

  • "I specifically asked the waitress if the pork was "fatty and juicy", and she assured me it was. It was dry and tasteless, and I wanted to send it back. No one came by again, or bothered to asked how the food was. 20 minutes later a bus-person asked my dining partner if she could take his empty plate, and she took my nearly untouched plate without even asking if there was an issue with the food (or even if I was done). Bummer. I used to really enjoy Left Bank, and hadn't been there in over a year. I've never had any problems with the service or food before."

The food was nicely presented. However, my paella was not very warm and not very inspired. It makes me feel that this may have been a chain without a real chef in the kitchen. "

Our waiter was attentive but very busy so the main dish came but we did not have utensils which our waiter soon realized. The wine both red and white (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) by the glass were good as well. The restaurant was busy and noisy and the price was moderately high especially the glass of wine. I would go back with friends on special occassions"
