I've been here twice now and the restaurant area seems way too busy for the number of staff to manage their tables properly. This trip was just sitting in the bar area having charcuterie and wine with a friend. We were on a tight schedule but still had an hour+ to enjoy wine and one appetizer. We waited over 25 minutes for the bill after the waiter failed to bring my friend a martini he had ordered 15 minutes prior to that. The staff are not customer oriented and certainly have way too many tables to manage. I won't be going back.

We recently dined at The Left Bank in San Jose and the food and service was far and above the Menlo Park location! Don't get me wrong, Menlo Park was OK, but Santana Row location is way better!

The food was very good as usual, great steak tartare and mussels. I had the duck breast and my wife had the steak, both very tender. This review is mainly of Teresa our server who did not reflect the usual standards of Left Bank. I'm sorry to say though that our server was not very friendly, she had an attitude that she "was forced to be there". Teresa our server came to our table once to take the order, once to apologize for the silverware, and once to literally DROP the check on the table, no eye contact, no smile. The buss boy was the one who got us extra toast points for the tartar, the buss boy asked how everything was. She did not pre-set our table for the main course, the bussboy had to do that.

Great food, good service, nice wine list. What's not to like at this Menlo Park restaurant? i went there with some friends, and we had a blast. The beefsteak tartare was really good and the scallops were amazing. The duck (medium-rare) was juicy and very flavorful, but the sauce not so great. The "Poulle en pijama" (1/2 chicken) had a pretty lame salad on the side (some pomme gratin would have been a much better choice), but was really nicely done. The only issue was with the desserts: The Profiteroles' pastry was dry and overdone and the icecream was a bit bland. The fig tart was bad, Safeway-bad. The amount of creme anglaise was microscopic, and the tart pastry was dry and flavorless. There was no more than half a fig in the whole tart.

My food was "ok" - chicken over cooked, but I kept eating trying to find something redeeming. I set aside the overcooked chicken to let the kitchen know. The waitress told the kitchen, but restaurant did not compensate for anything, simply let me know she passed on my experience. One of us had the burger, but the fries were not hot... he did not send them back either... and the salmon dinner was meager... a very small piece but seemed to be enjoyed... I generally enjoy Left Bank, most especially in Larkspur. Probably won't go back to the Menlo Park venue.

I have eaten at Left Bank several times, and the food is consistently good (lunch or dinner). However, the servers are indifferent and unhelpful. Everything seems to be a disturbance, and this attitude has repeated itself each time I've been in, so it's not just 1 or 2 servers. This last time, I went in for a late lunch by myself. Right off the bat, it seemed to be a hassle for the hostess to seat me (restaurant was more than half empty). No smile or welcome, just a scowl. The server was slow to take my order, and ignored me throughout the meal. Wasn't until I was almost done that she became very attentive (felt like a blatant attempt at raising her tip). Hard to return as several friends now refuse to eat here BECAUSE the service is so bad

My family had an overall nice experience at LB in Menlo Park. The ambience and the food was to our satisfaction. However, overall service level and coordination between service staff could be improved. We had to wait to long for our glasses of champagne to start off the evening. Our main courses were served as our shared but finished appetizers were still on the table, which made the food presentation look very messy. The main dishes arrived without the staff checked our cutlery, we had to ask for knifes and forks needed. We would again visit this restaurant for a relaxed Friday evening meal.

Left Bank must have gotten a new chef in the past year! The food had been so-so, and in 2014, I have gone back 3 times and the food has been excellent every time! I had the lobster risotto, which was the Sunday night special, and it was excellent. My husband had the classic chicken dish, that is prepared like you are in France--crispy on the outside, but tender in the inside--again, delicious. We live in Menlo Park and it is so nice to have a great local restaurant to go to.

My husband and I decided to go here for our 3rd wedding anniversary, and Left Bank sure didn't disappoint us! I like this restaurant, they serve decent French food but we just had terrible service that night. The hostess didn't smile a single time (to welcome us and when we left) and our server was clearly not attentive enough. She forgot the glasses for our sparkling water, forgot my wife's steak knife. I ordered two appetizers (instead of an entree), she brought them both at once...

The reservation through Open Table went very smoothly, and I was seated right away upon arrival. They kept an eye out for my lunch meeting partner and directed her to the table immediately, which was nice. Our waiter was being trained, and it was great to see their high level of training standards. The waitress doing the training stayed back and let the waiter she was training do the work, so they both didn't hover over us. Our order was taken seamlessly and correctly. Our waiter was attentive and kept things moving. Although it was busy, we had no trouble hearing each other and having a very nice lunch.

We were seated in a timely manner. Gave us time to read menu. Ordered salad to share and their sea bass special to share. Salad was brought out in two plates...perfect. Fish was brought on one without extra plates to split. Then the whole fish dinner was not de-boned properly...tons of bones and irritating to eat..flavor was fine....but terrible to eat.....BUT...after complaining to waitress to tell chef to clean better, they took that entrée of the bill. Desert was good ...

I really like this restaurant, but the service needs to catch up with the food variety and quality. It tends to be too slow, though the waiters are mostly pleasant. One of the problems might be that my party was outside. Outside is quite nice, but a little cramped both with other diners and passersby. Lunch menu offers all kinds of food for all kinds of tastes--would be nice, though, if there were some more traditional French options as the bulk of the options are (modern California) french cuisine. Still a nice place for a meal and I'll go back.

I love Left Bank. It is a classic bistro - tiled floors, dark wood tables. A lovely, lively environment. The food is consistently delicious, I've never been disappointed. Their guidance on the wine list is always spot on. It is good for a date, double date or groups. I'm from back east where I took reliable neighborhood bistros for granted.
