Diner Reviews
  • "Hadn't been here in a couple of years, but had a wonderful meal and enjoyable evening all around. The service was excellent, the appetizer was delicious and ample for two of us, and my risotto was fabulous. Just as I remembered!"

  • "I like this restaurant. The location is convenient to Palo Alto and Menlo Park and there is plenty of parking nearby. I also like the variety on the menu and the comfy booths in the back. Finally, the French onion soup is my favorite!"

  • "We have been to The Left Bank several times recently and have very much Enjoyed our experience. The food is so good. There were four of us celebrating Our friends birthday and she even got a delicious slice of apple cake from the Restaurant - waiter. Our booth was comfortable and the service was excellent And we are looking forward to going back soon."

  • "I was disappointed in my experience at LB. I came for brunch on a Sunday and they kept me and my party waiting for 20 minutes because the party at my reserved table hadn't left yet and were not in any hurry to do so. When we finally were escorted to the table, I noticed several empty tables they could have given us but didn't. And they never filled up while we were there. The meals lacked creativity and freshness. They clearly major in burgers and fries, which we did not want. My cheese fondue was watery. The bread was not crunchy. The steak tartare was the only decent thing we ate. LB tries to be a French bistro but misses. It's more of a cavern serving mediocre food."

  • "We have dined at this restaurant quite frequently as your records will show. We have a special table where we dine at and always indicate that same table on our restaurant reservation. Yesterday, Sunday, was a special day for us and i placed the online reservation as usual. We are usually the first one, or nearly first, at the restaurant. When we went there yesterday all tables were empty except the one that we reserve. Obviously someone did not read the reservation and, when pointed out to them, we were offered another table......not to make a fuss with the other customer. It was an unfortunate experience but left an impression that we should start to look elsewhere."

  • "Service was so-so from our server...beyond that...all was nice with our first time at this Left Bank...."

  • "In our group of six, it was hard to hear as a children's party was going on upstairs. The adorable little pre-teens paraded up and down the stairs, which ended near our table. Clearly their parents saw no need to keep them in their reserved dining room nor did the restaurant management. Even without 35 kids the dining room is large and open with poor acoustics. The server was wonderful and the food was good but if the point of dining out is more than just the food, I will go elsewhere next time. To my knowledge, the American roar of Silicon Valley restaurants is rare in Paris."

  • "The waiter made exceptional recommendations - he really knew the menu. The food was very, very good. However, the only drawback is the noise level. We sat at a round table. The person sitting on the other side of me had a difficult time hearing me, and I had a difficult time hearing them. Conversation was very difficult because of the noise level in the restaurant."

  • "Very friendly staff, especially to our very young kids, but the waiter took a long time to get to us in the beginning and throughout the meal."

  • "The french fries were great! They kindly divided the salad for us. The food wasn't bad, but wasn't great like it used to be, I'm sorry to say."

  • "We enjoyed yet another nice evening at Left Bank, Menlo Park. The staff were all attentive without overdoing it; the drinks were mixed very nicely, and the waiter offered to correct any that weren't up to par (none were). The meal was delicious. The ahi salad, other fish dishes and calamari were each tasty, with crispy calamari complemented by a spicy sauce. The ahi was rare and simply spiced in the nicoise salad. The waiter recommended it, and he was right."

  • "Met a friend I hadn't seen in many years at the Left Bank Menlo Park. Our waiter could see we had lots to talk about so he spaced out our appetizer, salad and meal perfectly to give us more time. The food was outstanding. We started with duck pate which was delicious and then I had a fabulous steak tartare as well as the cheese fondue...ended up taking a lot of food home as the portions were good sized. I can't say enough about this great restaurant. We will definitely return."

  • "This was pretty much the most uninspired chicken sandwich I've been served in years: a small, overcooked breast coated in a somewhat flavorful aioli and slapped in a bun with one wilted basil leaf. The accompanying fries, usually delicious here, were overcooked as well. My friends who selected the salade nicoise were happy with their choice."

  • "Have been to Left Bank before because I like to treat my college kids and their friends to a really nice meal. We usually have a party of 8-9 people so it's not a great place for conversation (long rectangular tables), but the food is always FABULOUS! We ordered pate, fondue and cheese for starters. Some ordered soup and steak tartare for their first course. For our main courses, four of us ordered the skirt steak (even the frites are wonderful), and the others had scallops, salmon or a salad. We don't have room for dessert but we are all happily full so it isn't necessary. The portions are a good size, and you can order several appetizers and turn that into your meal. Have never been disappointed with the very tasty food."

  • "My spouse and I planned to attend a movie at 8:30 and wanted to dine early enough to be able to walk to the theater without being rushed. We reserved for 7 and were seated timely. We chose the pate' selection with a very nice carafe of Sancerre, and followed that with the frisee salad. It was the perfect pre-theater dinner and the service was spot on. The wait staff was attentive to our timing needs without making it seem forced. A very nice light meal."

  • "Too bad the food doesn't measure up to the service which is excellent and the atmosphere. I don't know why they can't get their act together, but it's just not as good as it should be. I usually order mussels because they are consistently good, but other food is just OK."

  • "We went to the Left Bank for lunch with some friends and had a wonderful time. The service was outstanding. Our waiter was backed up so another one came to our table and let us know that he would help us until our waiter could return. The food was delicious. The lamb burger was great as reviewed by others. Our friends really enjoyed the brunch menu items and my wife had the chicken sandwich. The food, service, and ambiance were all wonderful. We plan to return again and we highly recommend the Left Bank to anyone in Menlo Park for lunch."

  • "I used to live near this Left Bank and I would frequent it. This was a disappointment. Very noisy. Service was terrible (we were given our check while we were eating and not asked for dessert or coffee.. the waitress did not explain the food we ordered properly. The food was just so-so. I would not go again."

  • "Met with six friends for a Saturday lunch - a birthday celebration. Food was good. Prices were reasonable. Service was worse than poor. The best thing I can say about the service is that we eventually did get our food - about an hour + after we ordered. That is the best report about the service I have to offer. I would not eat Saturday lunch there. I know I will never do that again!"

  • "The talle maitre'd was unpleasant , arrogant and unhelpful. We arrived 1/2 hour early. The restaurant was only 1/3 full and he told us they don't like to sit clients early. We asked if he could sit us early and he said, well, he could not then sit us in a booth. We replied that we did not want to sit in a booth anyway. He then sat us in a table for two in a row of tables which was O.K. The rest of the dining experience was very pleasant. The waiter was good and attentive, the food delicious."

  • "I took my Aunt to this restaurant for lunch on a Tuesday. I was hoping for a quiet table where we could talk and catch up on things. I made a 1:30 lunch reservation and even through we arrived a bit early, they seated us right away. The restaurant was busy and loud upon entering the main dining room, but we were seated along the back wall and were able to hear each other comfortably. We both ordered the Prix-Fixe selections and the food was done perfectly. Our server, Molly, was friendly and attentive and the meal was a very good value for the quality of the food. I don't live in the area and am not likely to travel there again for lunch but if I lived closer, I would definitely go back with some frequency."

  • "This is usually a good "go-to" restaurant: nice, moderately priced, consistent , but unexceptional in any respect. Nice little bar, comfortable European-style ambience. Normally a decent restaurant, but I had a terrible experience this time around. Ridiculously bad service: they couldn't find my reservation for 2, we had long, long waits, flying glass shards, more long waits, no cutlery, more long, long waits, broken plates, and still no cutlery. I finally stole some off a neighboring table. No excuse for service this bad. The food was reasonably good but nothing special. Probably won't go back. There are so many restaurants that are less expensive and much, much better."

  • "Tuesday night was off the hook. I got a cocktail called "herbs de Provence" WOW what a taste cocktail. My friend got a cocktail that was an LB special. We started with the mussels, WOW what flavor. ordered the Steak frites. My friend ordered the Duck. What amazing dishes. As we were eating a manager walked by our table and asked us if we were happy with our selections this evening? We both told him that everything was wonderful. When you have a manager that comes up too your table and asks if your happy and not just approach you will your eating and ask "how is everything" I think that shows that someone cares, what a gentlemen!!!"

  • "This is a good spot if you are patient and not in need of prompt service. Our dinner took two hours and all that was ordered was one appetizer and then entrees for everyone. No one had dessert or coffee. Our group was our family of 4 (two kids). Both of my children are experienced restaurant diners, so they know the routine and are very patient. However, it took 12 minutes from the time we were seated before anyone came over to greet us, offer to take a drink order or etc. The food also took a long time to come and clearing the table was also slow. I've had the experience of slow service at this restaurant before (both times without kids) so I was reluctant to try again and I was so disappointed since the food was delicious. Such a bummer."

  • "Not knowing where to go for New Year's Eve, on short notice I booked dinner at Left Bank, Menlo Park. I'd dined there before so knew the food was good. We were not disappointed. The New Year's Eve was festive without being rowdy. The service was measured so we had plenty of time to enjoy our dinner and hang around until midnight. There was a slight glitch as some dishes had run out - we were dining around 10:00 pm. The table next to us was close enough that we could enjoy conversation with fellow diners. It was a most enjoyable New Year's Eve, complete with paper hats and party horns to bring in the New Year."
