Diner Reviews
  • "Great restaurant. Great service. Andrew our waiter was fantastic Loved the dining experience"

  • "I love left bank from the food to the service. I have been to this resturant before I had 2 kids and now with 2 kids, they are very accomadating. On this visit, we had two families with our kids (age 2) x 2 and a newborn. First we requested to sit outside which they accomadate us but after a brutal fight from the wind outside, we decide to go back in which they quickly find us another table. The only part that I had to complaint about is that they put us next to the bar which was find but they assign the bar tender as our server which of course of busy almost 99% of the time. We had to ask to serve our main course after several attempts to get our waiters attention but at the end, the food was still excellent as usual."

  • "We ate twice in past 4 days, once outside with our dog and inside with friends. Service and attention depends on waitperson as it varied to "the best" to "most ignored". Food is excellent with meats from local sources actually tasting better here i.e. leg of lamb sandwich with olive tampenade and their burger a must! An excellent French onion soup and Nicoise salad were tops also. Spirits and unique artisan French inspired cocktails were excellent. On a nice day the sidewalk seating reminded us of Europe. Choose seating in the back inside for easier conversation, front for people and bar watching, outdoors for ambience. Finish up with the profiteroles- chocolate sauce tastes like Laduree's in Paris. Strangely, no French Press coffee !"

  • "My wife and I had a good dinner. My pork shank was excellent and her herring was good. My only complaint is the house chablis was insipid...watery and almost totally lacking in any chablis character. The big attraction here is the outside seating which is very nice on a warm day. The food is good but not spectacular, and probably a bit overpriced for what you get."

  • "We were delighted with everything at Left Bank. The service was outstanding and the food was done to perfection. The trout was one of the best we have ever had and the duck the same thing. We will definitely make Left Bank a regular. The only drawback if parking on a weekend especially in downtown Larkspur. Need to arrive early to find a parking spot. Valet parking would definitely help."

  • "I hadn't been to a Left Bank restaurant since the Pleasant Hill location was closed several years ago. It was wonderful to be back and I think the food has improved and the menu expanded. I do enjoy the LB Francophile experience and all the old favorites including onion soup and wondrous desserts. I'm looking forward to a return visit soon!"

  • "Salmon and burger--superb. Onion soup--delectable. Prompt, professional, and personable service. All that and profiteroles for dessert! Fine and fun dining."

  • "We expected the croquette appetizer to be similar to delicious croquettes we've tasted in France. These, however, were lacking in taste and the ham inside was so chopped up that it resembled Spam in looks and taste! Very disappointing. Felt an air of exclusivity to our waiter's attitude. He also told us that the bread would be brought to the table as soon as our menus were picked up (acted like we would overeat bread and not order food-ridiculous). I thought he was just doing that to us but then overheard him say to the couple next to us, "...when the menus come up, the bread goes down..." This was weird, wasn't said jokingly but with an accusatory tone. Other dishes: overpriced and underwhelming...won't be going back."

  • "Have dined here several times--consistently good food--French cuisine. Both my friend & I had the duck which was exceptionally prepared--so tender--melt in your mouth and told our server to give our compliments to the Chef. For dessert, we had the profiteroles--yummy."

  • "We have been many times to Left Bank and return for the warm environment. On our last visit, the hostess offered us a table in the middle of the dining room that we didn't like. When we asked her if we could swith to one of the other open tables we preferred, she told us they were held for people with reservations. "Like us?" my husband asked. "Are their reservations better than ours in some way that we are unaware of"? She moved us.The table service was slow and forgetful on this visit as well, but has been good on other visits."

  • "I love cabbage, especially fermented cabbage, the sausage appetizer with sour cabbages was tangy and substantial. My husband got the duck which I normally get and it was only ok. The real crowd pleaser was the trout. Perfectly cooked, drenched in butter, with super creamy mashed potato. Divine! Would give a 4 star, but the duck did not deliver."

  • "We like to meet friends for dinner at the Left Bank. It's a great space to talk, to enjoy the company and food."

  • "This restaurant is a Marin perennial and was busy as always the night we were there. I've had delicious lunches and dinners at Left Bank over the years. This time the friend I was with and I agreed that we'd give the food mixed reviews. The spinach in a spinach salad had large tough leaves with their thick stems left on and so was hard to eat, especially heaped up on a too-small plate, while the cheese and apple additions described on the menu were a few translucent slices. Mussels were the teeny-tiny ones and about half the shells were empty. French fries were as delicious as ever, my friend liked her entrée and our server was pleasant and efficient., so no big complaints. We just would have expected more attention to details."

  • "My husband and I have been coming for years, but I felt it wasn't quite coming together on Friday night. First for a party of four we were placed at the large booth in the bar when there were other tables far better and we had a reservation. My dish was just ok, my husband loved his salmon and the the profiteroles were literally cardboard pucks. Really bad. So step it back up Left Bank!!!"

  • "Superb food and excellent service. We ordered the trout and the ravioli, kind of unusual eating choices for us to have at this classic French Bistro style eatery. But both dishes were very nicely prepared, and with a bottle of Burgundy, we felt transported at/to the Left Bank."

  • "Left Bank is my favorite restaurant!! Everything is always outstanding from the food to the wine list, to the ambience, and to the great service from everyone- hosts, servers, managers! They have fun and well organized specials and celebrations all the time! Always a great, fun, enjoyable experience. It's fun in French!"

  • "We had a very nice meal with very good to excellent dishes and excellent service. The restaurant is quite inviting near the fireplace, and we had a custom drink order fulfilled perfectly. A very good spot for a hearty meal with good ambiance."

  • "Four of us had a lovely lunch before theatre at the Lark. Proximity of the two to each other made this an easy choice and one that did not disappoint. As many other diners were doing what we were, and with time at a premium, the service was excellent in getting us out in time without making us feel rushed."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "The staff were so professional and very pleasant. That's the icing on the cake, as the food is excellent and beautifully presented. While this is a fairly large restaurant, it is divided up so it feels quite cozy."

  • "My husband and I love dining at Left Bank. The mussels are fabulous and frites. My husband always enjoy the chicken sandwich. The staff is very attentive and bartender hospitable. We will continue to eat here as it is consistently good."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants so this was not my first visit. The friend I brought was "new" and she was very impressed. The food, wine and cocktails - as usual - were wonderful. I had the lamb sandwich which just melted in your mouth. Be sure to get the tapenade with that as suggested on the menu. While I enjoy the ambiance inside, I often come here during the day because the outside patio allows you to bring your (well behaved) dogs, which we did this weekend. The staff could not have been nicer to us and to our 4-legged friends. It's always a joy to come to the Left Bank!"

  • "I don't think I've had any better mussels anywhere in the Bay Area. Simply scrumptious! Can't wait to go back."
    Dined on 2/21/2014
  • "A wonderful luncheon experience. A very welcoming environment, plus very accommodating to our seating needs, All-in-all, for a first time for the host (our hostess has been a repeat) a most memorable occasion. And, the prices were damn good!!! See you next time...soon! Did I forget our servers??? We'll be back, soon!"
    Dined on 2/20/2014
  • "We had a dinner at Left Bank Larkspur. Well, I have had a couple of "just OK" meals there. This time, as a party of 5..... not one person had a good meal. The hamburger buns were dry and literally stale. The mussels were terrible. The ravioli's were tasteless. It was embarrassing as we were treating our new friend and meeting for the first time. Yes, I will have a cocktail there, or coffee outside, but we will never go back for dinner."
    Dined on 2/16/2014
  • "Skipped the pris fixe on Valentine's night and went for the good ol steak frite! Hubby's char was excellent, tho, gave me second thoughts. LB was serving a lovely pionot noir Cremant (French sparkling, not from Champagne region, so can't call it that) I had not had before and will definitely want to have again. Fun evening."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Fireplace, great service, best steak I've had in the last year in Marin. My husband had trout and it too was excellent. I always feel relaxed there. We will definitely keep going back."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "I usually really love this restaurant but on Valentine's Day (of all times), my love was unrequited. The prix fixe menu for the night included an embarrassingly tiny portion of cauliflower/coconut soup that was practically tasteless and over-thickened. The duck entree was not cooked medium as ordered, and was so inedibly tough we had to send it back. Our server disappeared constantly and never asked how things were. The soup which began the meal never got picked up from the table, despite our game of pushing it progressively farther toward the staff and even after we placed the bill for the meal alongside then on top of it. We were never offered coffee with the dessert they had forgotten to bring. In sum, a new Valentine's Day massacre."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "In spite of it being Valentine's Day with a prix fixe menu my partner's favourite Steak Frites was luckily on the menu! Our server Julia was efficient, professional and very sweet. Our food was authentic French Bistro fare; not over priced nor stingy portions. We did bring our own bottle of special wine, however the wine and bar list is excellent. We both spend a lot of time (2x a year minimum) in Paris, close family friends owner of a very well known restaurant in Paris; Left Bank is a classic go to place."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Viva Left Bank. A delicious dinner and a vibrant dining experience left us with a very Happy Valentine's Day. The beet & goat cheese terrine with its brilliant red color, as well as the amazing panna cotta, inspires up to return again."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "For years Left Bank has been a family favorite, no longer!! Front room half empty - hostess walked past tables near fireplace in the main room to seat us in the back. Waiter was obviously unhappy we didn't buy bottle of wine - spent more on six glasses (2 red, 2 rose and 2 champagne). Two of us ordered steak frites, we know sauces are an extra $1.50, but the additional cost was not noted- just that we had a choice of three. I have hosted bridal lunches and a rehearsal dinner in the past but have not dined as often in the past year or so. Had enjoyed anniversary, birthday and family dinners as well as sit at the bar for a hamburger. Too bad, the restaurant has so much potential but seems to have become a drinking hole with so-so food."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "I eat at The Left Bank often and it is always an enjoyable experience. The food is consistently excellent as is the service and I like the ambiance. I am from France and it reminds me very much of a Parisian bistro. I recommend if to all my friends. I also like the fact that it is a place where I can eat by myself without feeling out of place."

  • "this is a neighbor hood gem, yet also worth the drive as a destination restaurant. dining outdoors ( there are heat lamps) or inside, the service is friendly and efficient. must give a shout out to the terrific busboys. they keep the plates cleared and the water glasses full. order the mussels in a spinach, onion, garlic broth. big in size and portion. the burgers are juicy and the frites are the best. wonderful place for brunch. begin with the tasty bloody mary. go to left bank if you want lively, classy, familiar and fun."

  • "We made a reservation for two, showed up with four, so ok they could only accommodate us at an outside table on a chilly evening. But what attitude from the hostess! Don't speak that sharply to your GUESTS, as of they have stepped all over your Jimmy Choos. Waited 1/2 hr just to get a waiter to take our drink order. Forgot to bring the extra dishes we ordered. Wondered why we had been forgotten in the corner. Service sucked. Food just okay; lots of gristle in the steak tartare; nothing special at all. Certainly not worth it to warrant such lousy treatment. I will never go here again"
