We returned to Left Bank after a hiatus and felt somewhat disappointed. True, it was a World Series night, so the noise level was probably higher than usual. But the menu disappointed us. We enjoy good food and usually eat our own cooking at home. Since we had just had an Italian chicken dish, the Coq au Vin special didn't interest us. We ended up having soup and appetizer each: too-sweet sausage for me, small-portion herring for my husband. Those four appetizers plus one glass of wine ended up costing $64. We dine out rarely so I don't know if this is high--it seems like a lot for what we had. Bread basket was not replenished. Tables are close together. I didn't realize how loud they were until the table next to us left.

We love this place on the charming main street of little Larkspur & took 2 friends recently for their first time. We have all eaten in France a lot and all of us thought the food here was excellent. Coq au vin had the richly flavored sauce I always hope for; pork shank was excellent; fish cooked perfectly. Indoors it's pretty noisy & hard to converse especially if anyone is hearing impaired, but outdoors is much quieter & the heat lamps are good.

My husband and I have coming to Left Bank for years. One of our favorite meals was the hamburger and fries. We would tell our friends that this was the best place to get something most people take for granted. So this last Sunday we took our friend there between movies for the Mill Valley Film Festival for her birthday and based on our glowing recommendation we all ordered the hamburger and fries. The fries didn't have the same taste, they weren't crisp and were very ordinary. The burger was juicy but the bun was hard on the top like it was stale. We had to repeatedly ask for condiments. I will no longer be telling my friends that the place to get the best burger in Marin is Left Bank.

We ate outside (a few tables right on sidewalk, but Larkspur is a relatively quiet town) on a warm October evening. The duck with cassis was good, as was the wine. I usually order the french onion soup or the salade verte, both of which are very good. The service was a little off this night in some respects -- my husband had to ask three times for his diet coke, but usually the service is excellent and we eat here often.

The table reserved for my friend's birthday dinner was ready with the flower bouquet I had ordered. My friend and I enjoyed the quietness, neatness, and the courteous service. We started with a Gin & Tonic followed by a Beaujolais, Soup a l'Oignon, Artichoke Ravioli, Cocq au Vin, and concluding with Créme Brulée. All exquisite! Thank you for making my friend's birthday dinner a memorable evening.

Left Bank does a great job with their French menu. They use local and organic whenever possible. I've eaten there many times and the food is always delicious, with a wide variety. There is a great outdoor area where the weather is usually pleasant and there are heat lamps for when a chill comes in the evening. The pricing is very reasonable for the quality!

We ordered the tomato soup and the appetizer fondue. The tomato soup shouted TOMATO; the fondue shouted BLUE CHEESE. My wife ordered the ravioli, which shouted SAUCE. There is an important difference between hardy flavors and overbearing flavors; these were overbearing... very overbearing. They offered no subtleties in flavor and blasted out all accompanying flavors. This is particularly problematic for a fine French restaurant experience. We also ordered trout and quail each of which was very good and did not suffer the same problem. Finally we shared a peach Melba dessert which was wonderful.

We came here after a long day in SF. It was very quiet around 5 pm. We were seated quickly and the waitress was very attentive (very sweet to our two year old). I liked my dry pomegranate soda, myou daughter had a "Charolette" Temple and loved her special drink. Flatbread with goat cheese and heirloom tomatoes was good. The French onion soup was pretty good but not the best I have had. I had a lamb stew which was tender but the sauce to me didn't have much flavor. My wife had their steak with a red wine sauce and I thought the sauce was very good on it. We might come back in another season to see how the menu is

It was a Sunday night, to be fair. The couple next to us said that they always seemed to come on Sundays, when there was not enough staff. The paté was dull, and while the salad leaves were good and fresh, the salad options on the menu seemed uninspired... Both the roast chicken and the burger were boring, and the fries were coated with ?. We got dessert (chocolate fondant) and espressos, and they were both excellent. It may have been an "off" night. The space was beautiful, the staff pleasant but super-busy. The food was so indifferent.

We are never disappointed with the great fish, salads, burgers, and amazing oysters. When we want a good meal, nice service, and something sure to please even picky guests, this is our go to spot. My niscoos salad was good, but not inspired, as it has been in the past. My husband loved his trout. The oysters were fantastic as were the pomme frites. The dessert, a special custard with apricots, was bland and rubbery. We will stick to the sorbets, which never disappoint. Service was a bit slow, which was surprising as the dining room was not busy. All in, the meal was satisfying and we will be back.
