Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed the food here, and the wine list was interesting, but the belly dancing at like 9:30 was unexpected and unnecessary for a Thursday night. Also, the server was a bit all over the place and hard to understand. Very noisy, even before the music/entertainment started."

  • "I came here to surprise my friend for his birthday. I was really excited. I made reservations. When we first came in it was really busy which was alright because we had made a reservation. The table that they gave us was alright a small table right next to someone else. Then everything went downhill from here. The server was in such a rush and didnt really care. We ordered drinks which took a while to come. Then we ordered an appetizer which another person brought out and it didnt all come out so we had to wave down another server to help us. The server took our order and never came back to the table til the end to drop off the check. The food was bland and not good. I do not recommend this place at all."

  • "The ambient noise was sufficiently loud that it was hard to hear each other speaking across the table. It got worse around 9pm when they turned up the overhead music. (This was a Saturday night, BTW.) It would have been a much better experience if we'd been able to hear each other. The food and service were great, though."

  • "Remember how highly recommended the Mediterranean diet is -- and that's the same recommendation for this restaurant from the east end of the Mediterranean. This is not "fine dining' -- you don't have to reserve it for a "big deal"... This is good food, a decent wine list, very pleasant service, and a really nice evening. Whenever in Washington for more than one day, we try to have a meal here -- it's worth the trip (super easy to get there -- the Woodley Park stop on the Red Line). Be sure to have the bahklava for dessert..."

  • "I really enjoy lebanese fare so I am biased, but Lebanese Taverna was outstanding. I had Koftka Kabobs, and it was grilled perfectly and tasted like it had just been ground that day. Started with the hummus sampler. The "spicy" was garnished with a habanero salsa, so the kick was noticeable. This is my new go to spot in DC."

  • "As was really pleasantly surprised by the food and service at Lebanese Taverna. I had skimmed pages on Open Table and Zagat's before only to be disappointed at the restaurants that were recommended. This was true to all of the reviews I read. Simple restaurant, unpretentious but really great food. The platter of hummus and baba ganoush etc was great to split for two (and then some). I had the fish soup which was excellent. My guest had the sea bass and struggled with the bones throughout the dinner but she enjoyed her meal. Make sure and try the Turkish coffee. Will knock your socks off. Also, the baklava. Not the best I've ever had but a fun finale to a pleasant evening. It's super crowded so may sure to make reservations beforehand."

  • "I've eaten at Lebanese Taverna more times than I can remember. The food is always exceptional and the servers are always pleasant. I think this is, hands down, the best Mediterranean food in the D.C. area--better than Zaytinya, Kapnos, Cava Mezze, Mama Ayesha's, etc."

  • "I hadn't eaten here in a couple of years and did not know it now pretty much caters to--and cooks for--the visitor/sightseeing/conventioneering crowd. What used to be special Lebanese is pretty much mainstream, bland "Med-food"."

  • "Been to this restaurant several years ago, and was interested to go back. Décor is very attractive and drinks and sampler of appetizers were excellent. The salmon dinner was quite good, but I did not care for the roast lamb dinner. The meat was ok, but the vegetables were soggy and not very tasteful. Ice cream desserts were good, but the Baklawa was not nearly as good as I have had at other places. It was dry and relatively tasteless. I will give this restaurant another try when I come back to DC, but will choose menu items more carefully."

  • "Staff is friendly and gives great service. Food is delicious. Restaurant is a little noisy, had to lean in over table to have a conversation, but the energy is good. Table for two a little small and close to neighbors, but all in all I love this place."

  • "The food and service are really good. It's not "fine dining", and I don't feel like I have to tell all my friends about it, but it's really good."

  • "With a menu that can even satisfy the children in your dining party and the wonderful warm service, Lebanese Taverna is always our go to restaurant in DC. Be sure to make a reservation even if it is during the week as those at local hotel conventions frequent LT."

  • "I confess I LOVED the old Lebanese Taverna, it was a homey family-run place with quaint decor and a personal touch - you felt you were part of the family, enjoying excellent food and hospitality. So it was a rude awakening when it closed for renovation & re-opened as a modern eatery, complete with large bar and huge dining room. That said, the food is as fantastic as it ever was - the pittas come straight out of the oven to your table, the mezze options are varied, and the main courses are delicious. If you never went to the old LT, you will love this place - it's open yet warm, the food is just fantastic, and the service is efficient. If you loved the old LT, don't let nostalgia ruin your experience!"

  • "I chose Lebanese Taverna to celebrate my birthday with my friends. I'm so glad I did! It had been a long time since I visited them and didn't know they had remodeled and expanded their dining area. It has a much more formal feeling now, but not stuffy. The staff were so nice. The service was good, and Charlie, the manager, even arranged for my friends and I to enjoy complimentary baklava. I really felt like the restaurant treated me special on my birthday, and my regular dish - the lamb kabob - did not disappoint. I also recommend the red sangria! Thanks guys."

  • "They have a variety of apps to choose from, you might as well get one of the app platters! the baba ganoush was amazing and I usually don't jump at baba ganoush. chicken kabobs were ok, a little dry. the pita bread was very good."

  • "Recently remodeled, Lebanese Taverna continues to be a dependable, first class restaurant, but now with a stunning decor that makes diners feel they have skipped the bounds of ordinary. Our food was excellent, service was very quick and courteous. The warm, delicate pita bread alone is worth the visit, and we love the harrira soup (though can't find it on online menu)."

  • "Lebanese Taverna is a great place for lunch or dinner. Food is always high quality. Because so much of the crowd is coming from a conference or convention, reservations for lunch or dinner are highly recommended."
    Dined on 2/20/2014
  • "We made a reservation for 4 during a conference so we could get in and out in time for the first session after lunch. Our seating was delayed for 25 minutes after the reservation time. Others were seated without a reservation before us, and the kitchen was backed up so that we waited more than 30 minutes for our food."

  • "The service was excellent and fast. Our server was super friendly, even though we went on Valentine's Day and the place was slammed. He took time to explain the special menu to us and even described the food and answered our questions (She's a veggie, and I'm lactose intolerant). I think because they were busy, some of the food might not have been their best, which is why I gave 3 stars for food. What I had was good, but for the price I expected better. On a less busy night I'm sure it's excellent, and if you love Lebanese, you probably won't find better. The location could not have been easier. Literally directly across the street from the metro stop. The restaurant has tons of space, high ceilings, and a cool vibe."

  • "They had a pretty good deal for Valentine's Day: Eight mezzas (4 cold and 4 hot), and two entrees. It's well prepared and quite a bit of food. I made a reservation, and it was obviously popular. The place was pretty crowded, with the hostess admitting the seating arrangement was "a maze." It was a bit too crowded, in my opinion for what was promoted as a V-Day dinner. I felt like I was shoulder-to-shoulder with the guests at the other tables. When asked why some tables had table-clothes and other didn't, our server admitted that outdoor tables were brought inside to supplement seating because of the V-Day special. Food was well-prepared, and tasty. Server was great. I just wish the atmosphere was better for Valentine's Day."

  • "Delicious food, friendly and attentive servers and staff, reasonable prices and beautiful decor/environment. Our table was quite close to the neighboring one and we heard our neighbor's entire conversation. A bit annoying because it felt like we couldn't talk comfortably but it didn't ruin the overall experience, thankfully. Would definitely go back."

  • "Needed a place for 4 of us to eat during a conference lunch break Knew that with over 10,000 attendees at the conference restaurants would be packed, so made lunch reservations for four and were able to waltz by the poor saps without reservations to our table. Prompt, unobtrusive service, good food, no problems splitting the check among all 4 of us."

  • "We dined during a large convention, and they were able to both manage a crowd and deliver excellent food. All the traditional Middle Eastern dishes were there. The chicken shwarma was good, spicy hummus excellent, flat breads of high quAlity. Only surprise were the overcooked, rock hard falafel. We think they were just a result of the evening's crowds: the accompanying sauce was excellent. Recommend going."

  • "We were a large group in for a conference. The manager was very accommodating in keeping us together. Servers were attentive. Most all of us had Table Mezzas and the variety was perfect! That was the best way to order. Too noisy to talk but that was reflective of a fully packed restaurant. Would definitely return!"

  • "The food was pretty good, although I had better in other Lebanese restaurants in the US. We had hard time communicating with the waiter. It will be a good idea to have more Lebanese staff there."

  • "I am a Lebanese-American who can verify that the Taverna serves delicious and authentic Lebanese dishes. This branch of the restaurant in Woodley Park is near the Lebanese embassy, which keeps the staff on their toes. For true aficionados of Lebanese cuisine, I recommend the raw kibbee."

  • "The Lebanese Taverna is an exceptional restaurant specializing in Middle Eastern cuisine. The food is fresh. The wines and spirits eclectic to the culture, and the servers are genuinely kind and know what they are talking about. Great restaurant! Great atmosphere!"

  • "Good Middle Eastern food in a tastefully redecorated neighborhood oldie - but the noise level is awful. We had to shout to make ourselves heard. The redecoration should have included acoustic tiles!"

  • "As someone who lived for 10 years in Lebanon I didn't think that I would still be giving this gem of a restaurant 4 and a half stars after 25 years but I am. Now after its total renovation the food is as good as ever and the ambience is much nicer. The food is absolutely authentic and a joy to make ones way through the mezzes. Come once and be prepared to come again and again. The service (Haitham) was extremely attentive and I only needed to raise my head and catch the waiters eye for him to be at tableside withing seconds and that was when the restaurant was full. Keep up the good work and I should be coming back for another 25 years, inshallah."

  • "Lebanese Taverna at Woodley Park was my first introduction to Mediterranean food - almost 25 years ago. While there are many newer Lebanese restaurants that have sprung up in DC and the suburbs, Lebanese Taverna is still my go-to restaurant. The setting has been changed to be more upscale, but the food and service are just as excellent as I remember from 25 years ago. Hummus is smooth and flavorful - the best! The chef's platter provides a taste of nine traditional Lebanese dishes. Prices are reasonable (particularly for DC!), and the service is attentive without being obtrusive."
