Diner Reviews
  • "This place is a little gem in Noe. Their food is delicious and the understated French ambience is delightful. For what it is the restaurant is a perfect option for a delicious meal on 24th Street."

  • "My friend and I went to this restaurant for lunch. Menu was authentic. It has a little cute garden in the back and partially sunny - we had lunch there. and enjoyed the Sun. The service and food were good but it was a little pricey. If the wait person were a little more friendly or cheerful, the atmosphere could have been better. I'd like to check their dinner next time."

  • "The food we had was good. The service was good. The ambiance is fine, though it's a bit of an odd space in that the front room is dominated by a bar that seems not to be used while the tables are all pushed up against the wall, making you feel like you are in more of a hallway than a dining room; perhaps the back is better (though one would think the restaurant could make better use of the front). There is an outside sitting area, which I am sure would be very pleasant during the day. Aside from that, it was enjoyable, and I am glad we went, with only one exception. I thought the wine I ordered by the glass was significantly overpriced due to the amount served. I received about 3 ounces; the standard is at least 5."

  • "Have always wanted to check out Le Zinc when I visit Noe Valley. It was my partner's birthday on Thursday so I made reservations. We were looking forward to it. On arrival most of the tables at the front of the restaurant were unoccupied. We were seated and made our choices. Very small portions for appetizers for prices charged. I had the warm goat cheese salad which was tiny and not warm ,main course was ok, desert which we shared, not very good. Staff who refilled our water glasses were friendly but cannot say the same for person who took our order. Unfriendly and indifferent. A memorable dinner for the wrong reasons."

  • "We three ladies went to Le Zinc, planning to take advantage of the Dine About Town offer, but we found the menu regular menu very reasonably priced and two of us ordered from it. We had a wonderful crispy quiche and green salad with a tasty dressing. The Dine About Town lady enjoyed the lamb, giving us tastes, which we all agreed that it was very tender and very good. She raved about the flavorful rice that accompanied it. We all shared the delicious creme brûlée for dessert. Our server was delightful and very helpful and polite, explaining the dishes."

  • "It's a good experience to try out the Dine Around Town SF lunch menu. Would like to go back and dine outdoor at the patio."

  • "There are so many really good resaurants in SF I would skip this one. The food is just okay and the service is lacking. They did not honor our OpenTable reservation time, I would say we were seated 40 minutes after our scheduled reservation. The service was spotty and the noise level was high, it was difficult to hear my friend who was sitting right next to me. Given all of the options in this city I don't plan to return to Le Zinc. "

  • "I did not realize that every little added thing that you request will be added to the bill, like the blue cheese that she asked if I wanted for the salad. They should inform their customers that each item has a price that will be added to the total cost."

  • "By far the best neighborhood restaurant in Noe Valley!"

  • "We absolutely loved Le Zinc! It was such a quaint little spot. I felt transported to another place. And the food was delicious."

  • "Six of us gathered for a small family celebration. We wanted good food and wine, of course, and we also wanted to be able to talk and really hear each other. Le Zinc was perfect: Service was attentive, yet we had our privacy. (They even figured out whose birthday it was and put a lit candle in that person's dessert.) The menu offered excellent choices for all of us, with our range of tastes and appetites of different sizes. We enjoyed having very traditional French dishes along with some much more modern variations on traditional themes (fava bean ravioli). We'll be back."

  • "We enjoyed the 3 course menu with a carafe of wine. It was absolutely perfect. Could have been in France but we were in a lovely neighborhood bistro in the heart of Noe Valley. That tarte tatin will bring me back!"

  • "Le Zinc is a wonderful slice of France in SF. Classic French cuisine prepared to perfection in a lovely setting with attentive, professional service."

  • "Whenever friends come to town I take them to Le Zinc and it's always a great experience (but I don't just wait around for visitors). They're impressed that a neighborhood restaurant is so classy. The food is delicious and varied, the atmosphere warm and cozy. Beautiful garden! If only the weather allowed eating out there more often. Lunch, brunch, tapas, dinner, always a treat."

  • "If you are looking for a place to linger in conversation over some wonderful food, this is it. It's always difficult to find a quiet place suited to conversation for those occasions when your purpose isn't just to eat and move on. Le Zinc offers a range of menu choices. The lamb sausage sandwich served on ciabatta bread with a spicy sauce was very good, the French fries it came with particularly remarkable. The fries were not greasy but crisp. The service was attentive yet not intrusive, and I so enjoyed looking at the beautiful wooden bar decorated with small figures in the front."

  • "Who needs to go to Paris for al fresco dining? Le Zinc has a lovely patio for sunny SF dining. Their smoked salmon salad is tasty with hazelnuts. "

  • "We had the pork tenderloin, bavette steak, and the cod. All came at once to the 5 of us well prepared and presented, smacking of fresh ingredients, portions just right, not small. The pork and steak were full of flavor and had a variety of tastes and textures. The cod not so remarkable, but it is cod. Appetizers and desserts were wonderful. We loved the atmosphere, lighting and decor nicely done to make it a bit rustic, clean, a place you can hang out it."

  • "Our family got together at Le Zinc to celebrate three birthdays. The food was excellent as was the atmosphere. The waiter was less than warm but efficient, fulfilling the French stereotype so I guess it was an authentic experience! The only negative was the bread basket was so small that we had to ask three times to fill it. The bread was great so it would have been nice to have a regular size basket brought to the table."

  • "Found Le Zinc through Open Table search. So glad I did! Exceptional food, perfect portions, wonderful service. I noted on our regain thar we would like to know about gluten - free options. Without further prompting, our server approached us with a full spectrum of options and recommendations. Food, wine and beverage choices that meet everyone's varied needs and tastes. Will definitely be back!"

  • "Le Zinc continues to be my favorite dining spot in Noe Valley. I have returned several times, I should say countless times, and have never been disappointed. Le Zinc is a touch of France, Le Zinc is a treasure."

  • "Le Zinc is perfect for me (foodie, quiet, likes ambiance) and perfect for my husband (hungry, loves a pub). We had a fantastic meal with one of the best bottles of wine I've ever had. Every plate was fresh, well-prepared, perfectly seasoned, and had it's own unique flair. The restaurant interior is cozy, with beautiful dark wood accents and a friendly, helpful wait staff. We loved it."

  • "Loved the Beef B. The Tart Tartine was yummy, but the thimble of ice cream seemed chintzy. Our waiter was attentive and droll at the same time. Will come back for lunch/brunch."

  • "Two of us had a Saturday night early dinner at Le Zinc. Both the regular menu & the fixed price menus were worth attention. We chose the three course fixed price. Each course had good selections. One of us chose the bavette steak and the other the beef. Both were succulent, the steak cooked precisely to order. The wine list is impressive and well priced. Service was attentive. Even as the tables filled, the noise level was moderate. We frequent Le Zinc, and they have gotten better and better. Saturday night was one of the best meals we have had there. Kudos!"

  • "I felt the ahi tuna in the Niçoise salad was a little tough and stringy and I didn't care for the fried crust although someone else might. It was also the most pallid Niçoise I've ever had. My dining companion, however, seemed to enjoy her food immensely."
    Dined on 2/20/2014
  • "If you're looking for a creative experience, a decent service and food you could enjoy every bite, then this place is probably not going to be for you. The decoration and the overall atmosphere was good though, it just felt too bad that the food didn't meet the expectations."
    Dined on 11/2/2013
  • "First, I thought the Dine-About-Town lunch menu included 3 dishes, but at Le Zinc you had to choose just 2 out of 3. But that misunderstanding was probably mine. The food was not bad but not superlative. I perhaps saved $1.00 by ordering from the special menu, which doesn't amount to much, if the purpose of Dine-About-Town is to provide a genuine bargain--as well as introduce potential customers to restaurants they might not otherwise patronize. I will not return to Le Zinc."

  • "I've been to Le Zinc only once. I love good French food. And I got that at Le Zinc. I didn't mind the prices, but I have had French food I preferred at lower prices in San Francisco and the East Bay. I think Noe Valley has become too too too much of itself. As a former resident of 24th street in an ancient era, I still love the place. Even though Le Zinc had a neighborly atmosphere and the people were really nice, the experience had a hoity-toity quality to it. If that's what the aim was, it's a success! I'd go again."

  • "We noticed them reusing bread from other tablesI Our table was at the back of the restaurant where they have an island/table where they prep the utensils and BREAD. We noticed them taking the unused bread from other tables and then putting them in another basket and then, if it was only a few pieces, cut new bread and fill that basket then serve it. They also brought back a full bread basket from another table, removed a couple pieces, and then served that basket to another table. The 2 waiters/host did not wash there hands after serving, bussing, handle money and checks and they were the ones cutting and touching the bread with there bare hands. This place in not professional and should be ashamed!"

  • "Booking made for 4 adults with a note that we would also have 2 infants with us - they seemed completely unaware and taken a back. The waitress kept on huffing and looking very annoyed with us from the moment we arrived. We asked for two high chairs & only one was available because the other was broken or hadn't been prepared. They were going to put us towards the back of the restaurant in a booth that would have made it awkward for wait staff, other customers and us, so I had to ask for the table at the front that was more accommodating to being able to use our stiller and the high chair. Once seated we sat there for quite some time with no menus and no one coming over to us - I had to ask for a menu. Very disappointing!"

  • "Have eaten here on Valentines Day and the place was full. Don't know if unusually quiet night but it was Sat night at 7--We were one of two parties of 4, and we left at 9. Waiter a bit dour-owner? Food was great!!"

  • "The food was exceptional. If I were rating solely on the food experience, I would shout my recommendation for this place from the mountaintops. However, the service was truly just rude. Not just french restaurant rude, but outright rude. Maybe it was an off night but, I generally don't like being sneered at when I'm trying to enjoy a night out with my family. The hostess, bar staff and bus boy were all very sweet and cheerful. Our waiter was just the opposite."
    Dined on 12/21/2013
  • "I would say it was not great, but not so loud, and we could talk without screaming. The waiter was not exactly in his best mood, just so and not more. It worked for us for several reasons, and food is not so important, but it was a bit dear for the ambiance, service and food."

  • "Owned and operated by a French family, Le Zinc brings me back "home". Warm, professional staff serve authentic French dishes ...and some international choices as well. Romantic but not stuffy. Cooking of which Grand Maman would approve!"
