Diner Reviews
  • "First off, the management of the restaurant are actually French, which to me is always a good omen when it comes to authenticity. We went to try their restaurant week menu and it was packed with classic french staples such as Coq au Vin, cheese and terrine apetizers, etc. Overall the food was tasty, the service was friendly and the atmosphere was nice."

  • "We liked this lively spot with friendly excellent service. it would be nice to have a few more wines available by the glass--and two of those we tried seemed not up to the quality we expect in Seattle restaurants. Some of the food we had was excellent in design and prep but their big headliner, mussels and frites was a bit disappointing. Still we will return and try cocktails and different menu items as Le Zinc has got a great feel."

  • "Friends and I tried out Le Zinc during Seattle's Restaurant week and had an absolute fabulous time. The restaurant is in a relatively quiet area of Capitol Hill but provides a great ambiance when you simply want to "get away". All around the food, wine, and service were great and I don't believe that the dishwasher had a terribly busy night as all of our plates very clean once we were done. So, check them out and enjoy a little taste of France while in Seattle."

  • "This place is definitely not a caricatural french restaurant but feels like a true modern parisian bistrot. Reasonably priced, the menu offers a wide variety of meat and fish. The steak Tartare was very tasty. The mussels come in very generous portions with a side of fries. The dessert menu is mouthwatering. Finally, the "French style" espresso was a very pleasant surprise : a "long espresso" not a americano."

  • "I've been to Le Zinc twice, both times in a party of four, and had a lovely experience both times. We ordered the half chicken (the leg is confit, really tasty), the duck (yum) and the salmon. Can't remember the wine we had with dinner, but it was delicious. I did order a glass of Muscadet that was also really nice (not sweet). We didn't have time for dessert. The only snafu was with the computer, which delayed us a bit when we needed to leave. But our server quickly came up with an alternate device and we were able to pay despite the main computer being fussy. Le Zinc is a great place for a simple yetelegant meal but is also appropriate for a special occasion."

  • "Located in a trendy spot with a menu elaborated by a French entrepreneur, the experience has been quite disappointing! To begin with French wine list not very tasteful (the 1st one being ''bitter'' we switched to a Pinot Noir by the glass, very average. The food: the tartare was probably the best pick with the ground meat - But the Moules, appealing because very French basic option, were serve almost cold and not very tasty... When you pay such a price for a diner you expect at least your choice to be average. I'll probably will not give a new try. I'd rather stay away for the superficial trendy spots blooming in the city right now and stay focus on the basic experience of a meal- eat well with good wine and a good crowd."

  • "I have been here twice now and the food is superb. The chicken is so good and yet not pretentious, just done perfectly. The only thing to note is service can be long. This is part of the overall experience, and I liked that, but you want to make sure you are not in a rush when visiting as you want the time to enjoy your meal."

  • "We were greeted immediately. The happy hour menu extends into the dining area, which is a nice. Started with the escargot and mussels. I'm part bread, so I HAD to have the Grand Central baguette with housemade salted butter. SO GOOD! Entrees were pork belly on a bed of white beans and squash ragout for my spouse. He had never had pork belly before and, of course, was not disappointed. I went with the steak and frites, and it was really delightful. Perfectly done steak with herbed butter and perfect frites. Dessert was a chocolate torte and a pot du creme. Fun and tasty libations from the bar and a great server rounded out the entire amazing experience. We would go back here in a heartbeat and enthusiastically recommend this to everyone."

  • "Le Zinc was so-so. I had read about the mussels being a must-have, & perhaps my expectations were higher than they should've been. We had the mussels with fennel & pork belly, which were cooked well but lacked enough broth in my opinion, either. Still good, though; just not great. We started with the salade des pommes, which was decent, and also had the flatbread with compté and olives, which was delicious. They do have a great wine list, and our server recommended two impressive (and affordable) reds that complimented dinner well. We didn't have dessert, but I had a dessert cocktail - something with apricot and gin - and it was delicious. Bottom line, I'm not in a hurry to return to Le Zinc, but it was a satisfactory experience."

  • "1st time at Le Zinc, and I'd go back again. Fantastic service and menu. Also I found some reasonably priced Bourdeax wine!"

  • "Made a reservation without knowing anything about LeZinc for a business dinner on a Monday night. Monday is half priced bottle night so we were happy right away! Service was fantastic and attentive, the food was very good - good wine selection, the oysters were fresh and all of our dinners were executed perfectly. Great night! I will definitely go back."

  • "We went for Valentines Day. The menu was amazing - best lamb I've had in a very long time. As usual, our server, Paris, was wonderful. We always request him, and he never disappoints. I would eat there everyday if I could!"

  • "We came here for Valentine's Day and it was great. Food, service, view we're all what we expected. The chocolate fudge at the end of our 5-course meal was amazing. We got a table by the window with a decent street view. Recommended."

  • "we went Valentine's Day, had pre fixed menu. smoked salmon with onion brioche was fantastic, Rabbit terrine was very flavorful, the calamari, fired tentacles were great and the stuffed calamari tube we were prepared not to care for, but the sausage stuffing was just the right spice and texture. The only slight draw back was the main entree I had the monk fish and it was really bland I guess when the first three dishes are superb you expect more from the entree, it was just good, the same for the lamb, it was also bland could have used a sauce , then the dessert came and all was wonderful again. you would think that a flour less cake would be dense, this cake was silky melt in your mouth. For the price the wine parings couldn't be beat"

  • "My fiance and I went for Le Zinc's Valentines' Day dinner, so our experience may not be typical. The restaurant was lovely, the ambiance was great, but the food was a little- weird. It was all cooked very well, but there were some dishes I just didn't understand. Their rabbit terrine, which I was really excited to try, had way too many things going on. Cherry preserves, blanched carrots, dijon mustard, caper berries, bacon- it was too many flavors that didn't mesh well together. And sadly, it all overwhelmed the taste of the rabbit, which I had been looking forward to. Similarly, with the roast lamb, there were lumpy mashed potatoes served on a slice of tomato. Maybe it would be a good find for a normal, non-special occasion, evening."

  • "Le Zinc is an excellent smaller venue find with creative food and drink. The service was not rushed and we felt like there best and only customers that night. Our server was well trained and friendly. Very good dinning with a familiar and comfortable atmosphere."

  • "If you are a fan of French dining, Le Zinc is a great place. Not a huge dinner menu, but that just puts more quality into what they have. Somewhat noisy due to the concrete floors, but otherwise a great atmosphere. Be sure to ask about their specials!"

  • "Last kitchen order of the night, the duck and chicken are exceptional. A credit to French cuisine on west coast."

  • "Our second trip sadly proved disappointing. The food is average but not great for the price point. The service was our greatest disappointment. Servers were nice but not attentive. We never got a refill on water the entire meal and the server never checked to ensure I was enjoying my food once I received it. Sadly, this was likely our last visit here as the neighborhood offers too many other options with ad good or better food and service for the same price."

  • "Le Zinc was an awesome restaurant to go to overall. I went there on the night the Seahawks were playing the SF 49ers so there weren't too many people at the restaurant. I ordered the night special which was a pan fried scallop dish with braised Brussels sprouts and caramelized onions. It went very well with the creamy goat cheese potatoes. For appetizer, the escargot was magnificent, very rich in the earthy natural flavors from the meat but also paired very well with the heavy buttery fragrant garlic sauce. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance for dinner, complete with friendly waiters and staff. The waiters were very knowledgeable and polite. Great restaurant. Would highly recommend! Very authentic french cuisine."

  • "The food was tres, tres bien. My partner and I shared seared pork cheek and baked beans, salmon and creamy mashed potatoes, and escargot -- all three dishes were not only tasty, but they were also inventive. We were not disappointed. Le Zinc would have gotten a perfect score for it not had been for our waiter, who seemed rather rushed, even though the restaurant was not that busy. He also seemed impatient. The latter was remedied by some pretty attentive service from the owner/head chef. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to friends and family, and I'll definitely be returning to try their other dishes."

  • "It was Saturday night after the Seahawk playoff game and I think they were overwhelmed by the full restaurant. The young chefs were moving as fast as they could and our server was great at the beginning when they were still empty, but later we couldn't get the check to save our lives. The moules were excellent but few; the steak was very chewy. Very nice room; get a table with some space around it if you can."

  • "Having lived 6 years in Europe I got a bit spoiled about good french cuisine. Had other good experiences in Seattle but Le Zinc was the best one so far. Good service, delicious food (tried the mussels brisque, the porkbelly and the duck leg). Some interesting wines on the menu as well. Charming ambiance and decoration and good option for groups (they have a corner that would fit like 12 people. They also had a menu option for $30."

  • "If you don't mind everything caked in butter, this is your place. Chicken came out pink in the middle and had to be sent back."

  • "Not a huge fan of French food, but agreed to meet a friend here for dinner. So glad I did! The manager was fantastic as well as all the other staff. I had the mussels with the Roquefort cheese sauce and they were absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant for catching up with friends or a date night."

  • "Salad - nothing special. Some dried fruit, apple, and greens. Salmon main dish was pretty good, but nothing out of the ordinary. Dessert creme brulee was not the best - too buttery, not enough glaze on top, and was just cold throughout. The tea was not served with hot enough water and didnt steep enough even though I left it for over 5 minutes. Really overpriced for what I got - $47 for OK food and drink."

  • "I am convinced Le Zinc has a great potential due to its awesome setting and a staff that means well. However our dinner there was disappointing; especially the wine. For some baffling reasons, the wine is kept behind the counter and the St Nicolas de Bourgueil arrived hot (as would any other wine given where they sit). Then when we ordered a second bottle, this one was corked and we were given "almost the same" bottle (a Saumur Champigny). The Saumur was fine after sitting for 15 minutes in an ice bucket, however we got billed an additional $15 for it compared to the Bourgueil, without any advanced warning and we clearly were told it would be a substitution. As for the food, it was fine; not earth shattering. The potential is there though!"

  • "Le Zinc is a fresh, casual French dining experience in Capitol Hill. It's right for you if you are looking for well-prepared French food in a casual setting. The decor is fresh, urban, and laid-back without losing its elegance. My partner and I visited for the first time on New Year's Eve. Initially parking was a bit confusing, but the host (I believe he was the owner) graciously went outside and walked with me to my vehicle to ensure it wasn't parked illegally. Food was terrific: scallops were beautifully cooked, dessert was quite tasty. A very nice pre fixe menu with wine pairings was perfect to set off the evening. All staff we encountered that evening were personable and attentive."

  • "We loved our NYE dinner at Le Zinc! Portions were small but we weren't hungry when we left. All 5 courses were very tasty and we savored every bite! The service was excellent also and we felt like we were taken care of very well, the servers weren't overloaded like we experienced for our NYE dinner last year at a different upscale restaurant. We were so satisfied with our dining experience that we would have booked for next NYE already lol"

  • "The confit ! No, the steak frite! No, the (brined) roast chicken! No, the mussels with pork belly and fennel! Don't makes us choose... It was all sublime!"

  • "Attentive and friendly service. Delicious duck confit and escargot. Love the frizzled leeks atop the escargot! Comfortable and warm atmosphere. The only tiny disappointment for me was the bread. I generally like the bakery the bread comes from, but for some reason it wasn't as good as I expected. Not a big deal (except you do pay for it!) Not a reason to miss this lovely restaurant!"
