A word from Le Yaca
Le Yaca began in a tiny, country village(Courchevel)in the French Alps in 1964.Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided that it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans they told the hopeful restaurateurs that they were crazy to think that people would drive 8 kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner.Daniele and Gerard hesitated for 3 months and then decided: “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “ il n’y a qu’a le faire” which basically means “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag. But the name caught on with customers, who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms ” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States & opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg.Daniel Abid bought le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge" and to top it all off “Alain Ducasse.”Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "6 of us on a Sunday night. Over 3 hrs. At least 30 minutes between courses. How is that when it is the included set salad and soup for starters. Set crème brulee for dessert. Management needs trained wait staff. Demeanor not professional for a restaurant with a fine reputation. The service issue is noted in several current reviews. We also experienced the wait staff's confusion as to who ordered what."

  • "We have had lunch at Le Yaca many times at their old location, but this was our first dinner experience -- it was our anniversary and we wanted a special occasion. The food was great, as usual, the service highly professional and efficient, and we left thinking about how soon we could return (we live in a city about 45 miles away)."

  • "The food was fabulous. We really enjoyed the 3 course price fixed menu options. We sat in the front room and it was very loud. It was hard to converse and that detracted from the overall experience. Next time I will ask for a quieter table."

  • "Le Yaca is a Williamsburg tradition and just moved in January to their new location. The food has always been outstanding and continues to deliver. We had the $37 meal that is 3 courses and the both sops were exceptional! The man meal course are many on this option with us having the veal tenderloin and salmon-both were prepared perfect and filling. The deserts were great and service good. It was a nice evening so we enjoyed dinner outdoors on the new patio. The owner came by our table multiple times remember me for my prior dinners over the last 25 years!"

  • "Having just recently moved to Williamsburg, we were looking for a nice, upscale restaurant to take our friends who were visiting and celebrating their 16th anniversary. Le Yaca was recommended by one of my neighbors so we gave it a try. What a wonderful dining experience. My husband loved his "rack of Lamb" dish and my veal medallions with 2 different sauces were superb. But the very best part of the evening's culinary delight was when they brought our dessert -- the Grand Marnier souffle. It was heavenly! My friend ordered the flourless chocolate cake which was also excellent and when I had a bite of each together, it was beyond words, Yum, Yum, Yum! We will definitely be back."

  • "This was my 3rd time and 1st at new location. To make the long story short the older place was 5 stars vice 1 star on the new place."

  • "I have been to Le Yaca twice within two weeks! Once with my students and the second time with teacher friends. Both experiences were beyond delicious. The service and food were the same for the group as for the five of us! Excellent! Every detail was attended to and every bite a dream come true! I am so excited about this new location and the ambience is suitable for an haute cuisine establishment. So glad you brought the fireplace to the new site! It is very European! Always reminds me of a salon in a European chateau! Merci beaucoup for our wonderful experiences..........I will return with more students in June!"

  • "All was very good. We ran late due to traffic and restaurant was accommodating. The new setting for this long-standing restaurant is very pretty and more convenient. There is not a lot of privacy at tables for talking. Dinner was nicely paced. Waiter was attentive, but pushy in the end-brought check before coffee. Needed water refill. The offerings were varied and fresh. The fish was cooked perfectly. I liked the 3-course dinner option. Portions were nice and not too large. I would return."

  • "Always a great place to celebrate a special occasion or to get together with good friends. Reasonable wine list, generally very reasonable prices overall. Exceptionally good food."

  • "La Yaca has always been a wonderful dinning experience. You can be assured of good quality food every time you dine. The three course Bistro menu is affordable for those on a smaller budget wishing to have a romantic evening out. This menu is only available during the beginning of the week so plan accordingly. This is a dinning experience, you never feel rushed, it is quiet allowing conversation to be pleasurable, excellent food, wine, outstanding desserts. My only complaint is, the new wait staff has not been trained in the proper way of serving and clearing the table. They tend to clear by reaching across the table and stacking dishes noisily. I am sure with training this will be rectified by management."

  • "Looks like the kinks have been worked out since relocating to High Street. Our salads were fresh, our crepes were served hot and beautifully plated and the creme brulee is one of the best I've ever eaten. Our server, Mingh, was very attentive as usual. He is always very pleasant and provides exceptional service. LeYaca has dropped its two course lunch special and has only a three course available for $17. You can order a la carte if you wish. With tourist season beginning in Williamsburg, my suggestion would be to make a reservation for either lunch or dinner."

  • "Everything was excellent until we had to wait a long time for the bill and then a long time for the credit card to be picked up."

  • "The new Le Yaca is even better. Same delicious food and attentive service. Our group ordered the three-course lunch special and everything was delicious. The restaurant is gorgeous with lots of light and beautiful furnishings. It retains some of the French ambiance from the old location, but projects a more modern and energetic feel. Love it!!"

  • "My wife and I were fortunate to find the Le Yaca French restaurant in Williamsburg, VA to compliment our trip celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary. From the time we arrived we were confident that it would be an enjoyable experience. The entire staff was very cordial and accommodating, the owner took time to visit our table, twice, and the service was exceptional. The food was excellently prepared and seasoned to perfection. I found a good bottle of wine to accompany the meal at a reasonable price. As I told the owner, when asked about the meal, "this is the first time in 20 years of dining out that my wife has cleaned her plate." I would highly recommend Le Yaca to anyone in the Williamsburg area looking for a fine dining restaurant."

  • "We went to Le Yaca for my birthday dinner. They had no music playing which was an immediate turn off but then explained that the system was currently broken and apologized. The restaurant is lovely but one of the rooms is much nicer than the other. Our server was very friendly, but the food took forever. We waited 20 minutes after ordering for the salads to arrive and dinner took just that long if not longer after we finished our salads. I appreciate the fact that true european dining is at a slower pace than many other restaurants but this was a bit ridiculous. The food was amazing, every course, but the fact that it took so long really killed it for me. There was no explanation or apology given for the timing."

  • "Noise levels too high due to bare walls, bare floor and overstuffing diners in one area while other sitting areas were uninhabited. Snail appetizer drowned in too much liquid, pureed onion soup tasted more like consommee but seafood sampler entree, blue cheese filet and apple tartlet dessert were exquisite. Great wine and excellent service. Still, too much of a mixed bag at these prices."

  • "Thoroughly enjoyed lunch - first visit to new location and found the facility very nice and relaxing for lunch. Did the special - for $17 it was a great value; almost a steal. Salad, crepe, and dessert all superb. Our waitress Jean was very thoughtful and efficient. For shoppers, location is very convenient and seating capacity is quite large. Will return again and again."

  • "Our 3rd visit to the new location. We love the bistro menu offered (with the reg. menu) Sunday-Wed. Two entree choices seem to change over time, but the 6 oz tenderloin must be a staple - at least we hope so. All 3 of us ordered it, one med. rare, one med., and one med. well. We weren't trying to test the kitchen, but we each agreed all three were perfectly cooked and delicious. Similar results on previous visits. Next time I must try something else, but it will be hard. Soups and desserts, wonderful. Wine too. Service is always excellent, but special thanks go to our waiter Minh, whom we recognized from another restaurant in town some years ago. He was, as we remembered, friendly, helpful, and professional. We'll be back soon!"

  • "we were seated in a slice of a room that had no character, cut off from the main area, which had live music and more interesting decor. This is not at all like the old restaurant; it didn't feel like we were in the lovely Le Yaca which we dined in many times before."
    Dined on 3/30/2014
  • "Nicer location than the previous one, but much louder due to a bar, which attracts a different crowd, and hard flooring, which amplifies sound. The guitarist playing Spanish music was out of place in a French restaurant, and just added to the noise level, as people in the room tried to talk over his playing. We were seated in a small anteroom which was quiet until two couples who obviously had hearing problems and cared nothing for other diners were seated in the same room. After that, we could hardly wait to leave. Our server was foreign and very polite, but service was slow. We go there only on occasion for the excellent food."

  • "New location--same if not better Le Yaca! The perfect French restaurant and the icing on the souffle is that it does not gouge its customers like many others do. Quality abounds here; tried the Bistro Menu on this visit and it was superb."

  • "We have been going to Le Yaca for years. We think it is a fine French restaurant with great a great menu. We were last there for a birthday celebration. They did not let us down."

  • "This is the fIrst time we have gone since it has reopened. We found the food to be excellent but the wait staff needed training. They tried hard but because of the accent of our waiter we could not understand what the daily specials were. After asking him to repeat it, we just gave up. We also were surprised that he reached across people when serving or clearing the table. We were at a table for four and he served and cleared from the same single position. What happened to the wonderful servers they used to have?"

  • "Felt like a cheesy French restaurant in Disney. Located in strip mall and the food was bland. Much prefer the restaurants in historic district. Forgot my birthday candle on my cake but what are you going to do...I'm not one for attention."

  • "My husband and I returned to Le Yaca during a recent trip to Williamsburg. This was our first visit to their new building and location, which is much more convenient to visitors. We were VERY glad to see they've retained much of the feel of the original space, and the food and service were as outstanding as ever. As always, the owner visits every table, checking on one's experience. We were pleasantly surprised by the wine list, which seemed to offer more by-the-glass options, all of which are both excellent and reasonable. Their $5 per glass house wine, a French red resembling a Cotes de Rhone, was a delightful treat. Since we're retiring back to Tidewater soon, we look forward to many more fine meals at Le Yaca!"

  • "This is my favorite special occasion restaurant. The oysters served on Friday nights are exceptional and the service is wonderful. Sunday brunch and lunch the rest of the week are also amazing. It's time to sit back and enjoy the food and company without feeling rushed."

  • "Lovely and serene but elegant surroundings in which to have a dining experience. Romantic but also great fun for a group of friends. Service was on point, the food was presented with a flair and very flavorful and imaginative. I love this place and will surely return as often as possible."

  • "My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate a special occasion. The service started off very slow, which was strange for a Monday evening. It took quite some time for anyone to take our drink order, then it took forever to get out drinks, and we had to ask the waiter if we could put our food order in, because the waiter was not offering to take it. However, once we actually put our order in, the service was quick, and the food was AMAZING. The candlelight was romantic and flattering, and the ambiance of the place itself is elegant and amazing. Overall, I would definitely recommend it and plan to return again soon."

  • "We fell in love with LeYaca on our first visit, at their old location near Busch Gardens. We are serious foodies and wanted to try their French Cuisine and were not disappointed. The prices are, in my opinion, too low for the quality, and the love that goes into their food. We just returned to LeYaca, at their new location, for out first wedding anniversary and was happy to see many of the same staff from the old location and also that the food quality had not changed a bit since the move. If you are looking for a romantic dinner with wonderful food, LeYaca is the place to go."

  • "Le Yaca is a really great French Restaurant. The food and service are really great. Our son attends William and Mary and every time we visit him we have dinner at Le Yaca. It is by far the best restaurant in Williamsburg, VA. We probably eat there about 4 times a year and the owner recognizes us and says hello."

  • "We have dined at La Yaca many times and were concerned about the move. I had images of a strip mall restaurant. What a relief to see the attractive building reminiscent of the old if anything even more attractive both outside and inside. Nothing else has changed. The service was prompt, but not rushed and very professional. One of our favorite waiters made sure our aperitif was perfect. The food was excellent and the price more than fair. We are so happy to see that what we think is the best restaurant in Virginia is back in if anything an even more pleasant.environment."

  • "This restaurant is pleasant and comfortable. The menu is unchallenging, fitting classic french bistro style entrees into a format that will not offend the ordinary diner, and mixing in some unexpected continental standards. The fix prix selections are good (though not great); the marquise au chocolat and grand mariner soufflé very good (though the latter just a tad rubbery). Some of the sauces are too heavy; the featured lamb was quite tough and felt like it came from a different source than the open oven in the front entry. The wines we ordered needed to open up."
