A word from Le Yaca
Le Yaca began in a tiny, country village(Courchevel)in the French Alps in 1964.Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided that it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans they told the hopeful restaurateurs that they were crazy to think that people would drive 8 kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner.Daniele and Gerard hesitated for 3 months and then decided: “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “ il n’y a qu’a le faire” which basically means “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag. But the name caught on with customers, who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms ” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States & opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg.Daniel Abid bought le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge" and to top it all off “Alain Ducasse.”Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We dined at La Yaca last Friday, 7/25. From the moment we walked into the restaurant my wife and I new we were someplace special. The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant was warm, welcoming, and elegant. Some of the menu, wines, spirits, etc. were presented on an Apple IPad, the food menu was on a traditional printed menu. The food was absolutely wonderful as was the service. The menu selections was amazing and we both could have ordered anything off the menu and would have truly enjoyed it, they just seemed to have everything we like and our selection was a difficult choice, however, a good choice. I highly recommend La Yaca for a very special night out and will can't wait to return."

  • "Le Yaca is the place we make reservations for our special occasions or when we just want to treat ourselves to an enjoyable evening of delicious food and pleasant atmosphere. It doesn't hurt that it's also a romantic place as well and has become one our favorite places to go in Williamsburg."

  • "Took friends of ours from out of town there this past Sunday. One was new to French food but both were super impressed with the food, service and ambiance. This is not our first time there so we can say that there level of excellence is consistently high."

  • "Outstanding steaks and scallops cooked to perfection. Maitre d' was very accommodating and knowledgeable. Service was excellent. Onion soup was a bit disappointing is my only small complaint. Crème brulee was very nice. Overall excellent."

  • "This is an excellent place to go if you are looking for a good date night with great ambience and service. Definitely worth a trip to this restaurant."

  • "Le Yaca is hands down the best restaurant in Williamsburg, VA and one of the 5 best in the Mid Atlantic. The food is outstanding; the service impeccable and the ambiance is relaxing and peaceful. I intend to make this a regular dining spot for years to come."

  • "Le Yaca serves French cuisine. We ordered the chef's Tasting Menu as well as the three-course dinner. While most of the food was good some was returned uneaten. I would not say that the food was great, but it was solid (bread was good, lobster stringy, beef so over-peppered as to be flavorless, however the duck was yummy). Perhaps in comparison to other French options in Williamsburg Le Yaca is better, I don't know. While we were not unhappy - the wait staff was attentive - I left feeling that the restaurant had a higher opinion of its cuisine than was validated by our taste buds."

  • "We've enjoyed Le Yaca through the years at its former location in the Kingsmill Shops. Now, the new Le Yaca at High Street is even better than ever. The menu is relatively unchanged (thankfully) and the service is noticeably better and more polished every visit. Hats off to Madam for a wonderful renewal that is Le Yaca at High Street."

  • "This place came highly recommended. Our server was overly solicitous and nearly never there when needed. I head to ask for water multiple times and my wife's drink took twenty minutes. The waiter made mention of his assignment in one of the back rooms of the restaurant. It was Bastille Day and a Monday. Our room was sparsely seated. The beef was standard fair. The crab cake very good. The wine recommendation below par. It was average food that could have been served at a Marriott. They seems to have bus help but they were sparse as well. The soufflé was good but needed a splash more liqueur. The onion soup was flavored well but the gruyere cheese cold. Ground pepper brought after steak was served..couldn't find a body..."

  • "We celebrated my birthday on July 13 at LeYaca. The food was outstanding French cuisine. Every bit as good as we had in Paris last April and it cost less. Wine was very good and service excellent. We plan to go back many times. I would not recommend this dining experience for children. The food would not appeal to them and they would not appeal to the other diners."

  • "Have heard about this restaurant for years and I guess we missed their best years. The service was disjointed, menu was not out of the ordinary, certainly not chain menu but not French and not really creative. Will not go again and not recommend to other locals. We live locally and explore restaurants in the area. Sorry"

  • "There is a fixed price menu of $37 for a 3 course meal, upgrades available such as Grand Marnier Souffle for an extra $8, or an a la carte menu that is great as well. True French bread joins each meal of course, with a triangle of butter. Creamy colored double tablecloths complete the table setting. Bastille Day was the next day, so each table sported small French flags with blue, white and red flowers. Madame came to each table to inform dinners of the specials for the day and to chat a bit. Attention to detail was obvious in each plate. The double filet plate, with two separate sauces and a different vegetable under each filet, was incredible, and melted in one's mouth! Do treat yourself to this lovely dining experience."

  • "The experience began with the matriarch of the restaurant reviewing the specials Simple things down to the house salad were perfect Our entrees were pork, calves liver, tenderloin and rock bass All were perfect A must do"

  • "Boyfriend and I had the brunch special on a Saturday recently. The soups weren't too salty and had great flavor. The steaks were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The vegetables were cooked well, nothing much to speak of here. It did entertain me though that my boyfriend received a single mushroom with is entree. :) Boyfriend's desert was an apple tart with vanilla ice cream which was divine. I had the creme brûlée and as far as they go it was pretty good. I have a bit of a creme brûlée obsession so my standards may be a bit skewed. The service was superb! Our waiter always appeared from thin air right before we realized we needed something and predicted every need. Magic!!"

  • "We brought friends from out of town to Le Yaca for a joint birthday dinner. Everyone was more than pleased with their entre choices and the Champagne cocktails were great! Our friends said it was the finest dining experience they had had in a long time. We can't wait to go back!"

  • "We dined at LeYaca on a late on a steamy July evening and virtually had the place to ourselves. The decor and atmosphere are wonderful and bright. Service was impecable. "Madame" was charming, presenting the daily specials. The Lobster Bisque was to die for. Our entrees, Veal Normandaise and twin Poached Lobster tales were excellent. We had a delightful wine from Alsace that complemented the food beautifully. The apple tart was wonderful. On leaving we passed the semi circular bar which has the most beautiful granite (?) surface. Made me wish we had sat there for cocktails. The only reason that I quibbled with a 4 star rating for the food was a personal preferance for a more assertive Calvados presence in the veal sauce."

  • "We always enjoy returning to this fine dining establishment. And it is even a more enjoyable experience in their new location. The food is well prepared and the service is friendly and professional. And it is very affordable with the many prix fixe dining choices."

  • "After initial visits to le yaca' s new location, I worried that the quality of service wouldn't survive in the bigger place. So sloowww! Polite as always, friendly, but nothing came on time, and items were forgotten: bread, wine, appetizers. Much reminding necessary. Unheard of in the old place. (All front of the house problems. The quality of the food never faltered). So I was happy to see standards back to normal on a recent visit. My request for quiet seating noted and honored, wine order taken and served right away, each course following when we were ready. The service flawless, professional and cordial. Like old times! And the food as ever, the best."

  • "This place is phenomenal! When even their soup can make you say "Wow!" then you know it's great. Literally everything we ate was the best food ever. The crab crepe was to die for. I dine in NYC and DC often and nothing compares to Le Yeca. It's not only a Williamsburg gem, it's simply a gem."

  • "We dined on a Monday, a training night, perhaps?. Nothing serious, mind you, but mushroom soup was ordered, onion soup was delivered (pureed and too mild for my taste) . No olives in the martini, which was to be dirty and wasn't. The waiter attempted to take a man's order first, rather than the woman's. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, service should be impeccable. The main courses (pork, duck and beef tenderloin), however, were excellent, although they were served lukewarm. The room was bright; tables were fairly close, and on a busy night, some would be partially in doorways. A chocolate lava dessert was outstanding. All in all, a pleasant evening in a nicer restaurant than the old one."

  • "Kudos to Madame and staff for creating an excellent dining experience. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. We love this restaurant and come regularly, especially if we have out of town guests. Moving here last year from the NYC metro area we love to show our visitors from back home that Williamsburg can compete with with our favorite northern dining rooms."

  • "Le Yaca never fails to deliver a high quality meal in a pleasant atmosphere. The new restaurant venue provides a very nice setting w- a mix of modernism & the traditional. Last Saturday evening, the daily flounder special w/a touch of truffle oil was light & just right for a summer evening. The potato/leek soup was a purée which made it light & fragrant. My husband's Dover Sole (his favorite entree) was expertly prepared & paired w/ farm fresh vegetable sides. Best wishes to everyone at Le Yaca!"

  • "My sister came from Maryland for a visit and we wanted to take her to the most special place we knew for lunch. Le Yaca filled the bill in every way. The food was delicious (and we had three different entres), plus soup and dessert. The service was wonderful. I had the corn chowder, which was creamy and delicious. For my entre I had two lamb chops over mixed vegetables. The chops were cooked perfectly and there was more than enough for one meal. For dessert I got the flourless chocolate cake, which was rich and decadent. An excellent meal in every way."

  • "Four people with four different tastes met for lunch. We all had the onion soup which was delicious as always. We each ordered something different for lunch; we all were very pleased with our choices. The lettuce in the salads was cold and crisp; the beef grilled perfectly. The tuna was obviously fresh; my fillet mignon with sauce was outstanding. The new location is more conveniently located and has the charm of a Parisian café. We were the first ones there. As other diners came in, they were seated a comfortable distance from us and not the usual next-table-closeness for the convenience of the wait staff. We have been to Le Yaca many times; it is our favorite place for all occasions."

  • "A beautiful and charming restaurant! The food was absolutely delicious, the service solicitous, the ambience lovely and warm. Very pricey but worth it for a special occasion. I'm sure you could spend much less and have a wonderful experience as well. We wondered why it wasn't more crowded; the prices probably keep it out of the range of a typical tourist destination. But that's good for those who are looking for a special evening out. Can't wait to return for a winter meal in front of the fireplace!"

  • "The 3 course lunch was a good start since it was my first time to eat at this restaurant. The food was hot and tasteful. The menu items are inexpensive and at a very reasonable price for the food served. The waiter, Shane was wonderful and caring. He always came with a smile and checked on us a few times and asked if we needed anything. I am sure to go back to try for dinner."
