A word from Le Yaca
Le Yaca began in a tiny, country village(Courchevel)in the French Alps in 1964.Daniele Bourderau & Gerard decided that it would be fun to open a small restaurant. When friends learned of their plans they told the hopeful restaurateurs that they were crazy to think that people would drive 8 kilometers on a winding, icy road for dinner.Daniele and Gerard hesitated for 3 months and then decided: “yaca le faire,” a contraction of the French phrase “ il n’y a qu’a le faire” which basically means “let’s do it.” They called the restaurant Le Yaca as a gag. But the name caught on with customers, who were amused by the pun and contributed to the restaurant’s lore by inventing “yaca-isms ” of their own: yaca y aller (let’s go). Daniele came to the United States & opened Le Yaca in Williamsburg.Daniel Abid bought le Yaca in 2001. Daniel worked and trained in such prestigious places as “Le Pre Catelan” and “Lenotre” in Paris; “L’Amandier” and “Roger Verge" and to top it all off “Alain Ducasse.”Continued

  • "As usual the food at Le Yake was delicious. But the noise of the rooms can be distracting, and service continues to be a problem. My wife enjoyed beef , and I had the crab cake-lobster tail combination. Both were fine. With a full house, though, the noise in the place made conversation too much of a challenge."

The interior of the new place is beautifully understated and provides the same ambiance as the old one, only better. We went there for Easter dinner and the menu was excellent with many choices, on such a busy day we never felt rushed, our meal was cooked perfectly, and the tables looked lovely! All around, a lovely experience!"

Excellent food starting with a divine tuna carpacio, to a delightful seafood panache (crab cake, lobster tail on a bed of thinly sliced potatoes and spinach) and a light creme brûlée. An authentic French restaurant not to be missed. We will be back and are looking forward our next visit. Merci le Yacca pour ce merveilleux dejeuner."

  • "Le Yaca has been one of my favorite restaurants for years so I viewed its relocation to High Street with trepidation. Would it lose its old world charm and atmosphere? Thankfully, it has not. The interior retains much of what I liked about the old place, including the great hearth, a variety of rooms and moods, perhaps not as good a view but greatly expanded outdoor seating and bar area. The food remains very good and sometimes great at a good price and the service is attentive and responsive. "

  • "I took my daughter here for an 'end of Spring break' dinner. We were greeted by a sweet women who showed us to a cozy spot after highlighting some of the beauty transferred from their last spot. We started the meal with their fun wine list (on an iPad) and some fantastic bread! The escargot was fabulous! Her first taste, and was proud it was a good experience. The French onion soup and strawberry gazpacho were perfect! We had veal and filet both served 2 different ways. ALL four were fabulous! The filet w/gorgonzola cream sauce was my favorite, as the veal with mushroom wine sauce was hers. I opted for the extra charge on the grand marnier soufflé, worth it! out of room to write more, could go on for pages. Best experience in AGES!"

  • "For our first visit to Le Yaca's new location, we had a wonderful evening. Our approach to the new location was jarring, what with the movie theater across the street, a Five Guys hamburger joint in sight and a Azteca Mexican restaurant next door. The new outdoor sign is a little over the top. But once inside, the restaurant had much the same ambiance as the old location. One thing we need to say right away, the food and service was familiar, and they have always been excellent. The location change hasn't affected that at all. We would (and do) recommend Le Yaca to friends."

  • "New location: inadequate parking, missing menus, and the service has declined since my last visit. Maybe the issues I experienced will correct themselves over time, but it was a less enjoyable meal than previous occasions. E people are friendly, but everyone was clueless. How do you seat a table with only one menu? None of the issues were acknowledged or addressed, food was still excellent. If I had been able to look at a menu right side up for more than a minute, I might have ordered more of it."

Management needs trained wait staff. Demeanor not professional for a restaurant with a fine reputation. The service issue is noted in several current reviews. We also experienced the wait staff's confusion as to who ordered what."

We had the $37 meal that is 3 courses and the both sops were exceptional! The man meal course are many on this option with us having the veal tenderloin and salmon-both were prepared perfect and filling. The deserts were great and service good. It was a nice evening so we enjoyed dinner outdoors on the new patio. The owner came by our table multiple times remember me for my prior dinners over the last 25 years!"

  • "Having just recently moved to Williamsburg, we were looking for a nice, upscale restaurant to take our friends who were visiting and celebrating their 16th anniversary. Le Yaca was recommended by one of my neighbors so we gave it a try. What a wonderful dining experience. My husband loved his "rack of Lamb" dish and my veal medallions with 2 different sauces were superb. But the very best part of the evening's culinary delight was when they brought our dessert -- the Grand Marnier souffle. It was heavenly! My friend ordered the flourless chocolate cake which was also excellent and when I had a bite of each together, it was beyond words, Yum, Yum, Yum! We will definitely be back."

  • "I have been to Le Yaca twice within two weeks! Once with my students and the second time with teacher friends. Both experiences were beyond delicious. The service and food were the same for the group as for the five of us! Excellent! Every detail was attended to and every bite a dream come true! I am so excited about this new location and the ambience is suitable for an haute cuisine establishment. So glad you brought the fireplace to the new site! It is very European!   • "All was very good. We ran late due to traffic and restaurant was accommodating. The new setting for this long-standing restaurant is very pretty and more convenient. There is not a lot of privacy at tables for talking. Dinner was nicely paced. Waiter was attentive, but pushy in the end-brought check before coffee. Needed water refill. The offerings were varied and fresh. The fish was cooked perfectly. I liked the 3-course dinner option. Portions were nice and not too large. I would return."

  • "La Yaca has always been a wonderful dinning experience. You can be assured of good quality food every time you dine. The three course Bistro menu is affordable for those on a smaller budget wishing to have a romantic evening out. This menu is only available during the beginning of the week so plan accordingly. This is a dinning experience, you never feel rushed, it is quiet allowing conversation to be pleasurable, excellent food, wine, outstanding desserts. My only complaint is, the new wait staff has not been trained in the proper way of serving and clearing the table. They tend to clear by reaching across the table and stacking dishes noisily. I am sure with training this will be rectified by management."

  • "Looks like the kinks have been worked out since relocating to High Street. Our salads were fresh, our crepes were served hot and beautifully plated and the creme brulee is one of the best I've ever eaten. Our server, Mingh, was very attentive as usual. He is always very pleasant and provides exceptional service. LeYaca has dropped its two course lunch special and has only a three course available for $17. You can order a la carte if you wish. With tourist season beginning in Williamsburg, my suggestion would be to make a reservation for either lunch or dinner."

  • "My wife and I were fortunate to find the Le Yaca French restaurant in Williamsburg, VA to compliment our trip celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary. From the time we arrived we were confident that it would be an enjoyable experience. The entire staff was very cordial and accommodating, the owner took time to visit our table, twice, and the service was exceptional. The food was excellently prepared and seasoned to perfection. I found a good bottle of wine to accompany the meal at a reasonable price. As I told the owner, when asked about the meal, "this is the first time in 20 years of dining out that my wife has cleaned her plate." I would highly recommend Le Yaca to anyone in the Williamsburg area looking for a fine dining restaurant."

  • "We went to Le Yaca for my birthday dinner. They had no music playing which was an immediate turn off but then explained that the system was currently broken and apologized. The restaurant is lovely but one of the rooms is much nicer than the other. Our server was very friendly, but the food took forever. We waited 20 minutes after ordering for the salads to arrive and dinner took just that long if not longer after we finished our salads. I appreciate the fact that true european dining is at a slower pace than many other restaurants but this was a bit ridiculous. The food was amazing, every course, but the fact that it took so long really killed it for me. There was no explanation or apology given for the timing."

  • "Noise levels too high due to bare walls, bare floor and overstuffing diners in one area while other sitting areas were uninhabited. Snail appetizer drowned in too much liquid, pureed onion soup tasted more like consommee but seafood sampler entree, blue cheese filet and apple tartlet dessert were exquisite. Great wine and excellent service. Still, too much of a mixed bag at these prices."

  • "Our 3rd visit to the new location. We love the bistro menu offered (with the reg. menu) Sunday-Wed. Two entree choices seem to change over time, but the 6 oz tenderloin must be a staple - at least we hope so. All 3 of us ordered it, one med. rare, one med., and one med. well. We weren't trying to test the kitchen, but we each agreed all three were perfectly cooked and delicious. Similar results on previous visits. Next time I must try something else, but it will be hard. Soups and desserts, wonderful. Wine too. Service is always excellent, but special thanks go to our waiter Minh, whom we recognized from another restaurant in town some years ago. He was, as we remembered, friendly, helpful, and professional. We'll be back soon!"
