This is an intimate restaurant with a well curated menu. It caters to vegans and vegetarians while giving an option or two for omnivores. It is great for people looking for that East Village experience. We've never had a bad meal here. FYI it's BYOB.

I love this restaurant. The mostly vegetarian/vegan offerings also include some options for folks who eat meat. The french inspired menu doesn't depend on soy, seitan, tempeh, etc. and the flavors are complex and enjoyable. I have come here twice mostly with meat eaters and they have really enjoyed all the offerings. The BYOB aspect of the place is also wonderful. A few areas of improvement are - having the booths be a little deeper - it sort of felt like you were perched rather than sitting, also the beverage options are limited and it would be great if other non-alcoholic options other than coffee, hot tea, and two soda choices were available.

I went here with a vegan friend of mine; he was thrilled that I had found a restaurant where, despite being vegan, he could have French food. I'm an omnivore but decided to try their vegan dishes. We shared two appetizers -- the Village Salad, which I loved, and the Sauteed Brussels Spouts, which I liked. For the entree I had the Cassoulet, which I thought was great. My friend had another appetizer -- the Beet Carpaccio Salad -- and I forget what else. He loved everything he had. For desert I had the Fondant au Chocolat, which was good. I forget what my friend had. The sound level was low: very conducive to conversation. The space is small and nicely decorated. This omnivore and his vegan friend are both glad that they ate there.

  • Great French Veggie Option
    JackieWVIP
    Dined on 7/25/2014
It's rare you find a French veggie option so tasty! We had the balsamic strawberries and brussel sprouts as an appetizer - perfectly cooked and a bit blackened - great blend of flavors. For entrees, my friend and I split the cassoulet (filling but healthy - would be great in winter - beans and veggies) and the kale/mushroom dish in dressing. Was nice not to have kale stems included and a great flavor, but this dish did feel very "veggie." For dessert, the molten chocolate cake - lots of molten served warm - very delicious! Overall, a bit pricey. Of note - they're BYOB (no corkage fee). They have their menu labeled "0 cb, locb, hicb" to indicate the amount of carbs in a dish some things are labeled "0 cb" that certainly don't seem to be!

Food was alright, but let a little to be desired. The brussel sprouts app, as well as the ravioli were great; however, the goat cheese tart and eggplant lasagna were not well done, in our respective opinions. Also, an unusual event occurred whereby a pedestrian tripped-and-fell outside of the restaurant, causing a scene in front of the patrons and not particularly well-handled by the restaurant staff.

My sister and I got a groupon for this place and were excited as yelp reviews were good. Unfortunately we were disappointed with this restaurant. Not sure if the food selection and size were reduced due to groupon promotion, but it definitely left a "bad taste" in our moth. The appetizers were tiny - they were so small you could hardly taste them. So I hope when they charge a regular price of $12 per appetizer those come bigger. The entrees were also very small - probably the size of what appetizer should be and tasted very blank. The only good part was the desert. We don't eat much and of course were full after full course and soft drinks, however the portions ARE very tiny and my husband and her b/f would be very upset and probably hungry.

I rarely post reviews. I try to avoid going to the same restaurant twice. Le Village is an exception on both accounts. The place is so special. Food is beyond amazing. I am planning to come back until I try all the items on the menu. So far, everything I've tried from vegan appetizers to a tender duck with amazing sauce to a sumptuous dessert was unforgettable. The service is very attentive and friendly. The chef greets you and provides food recommendations. The place is quiet and romantic. Great menu + BYOB = where else can you find this combo in NYC? Wishing this restaurant much success that it truly deserves. Not too much, though, just enough for me to get the next reservation in!

Charming French vegan restaurant in the East Village -- the majority of the menu was vegan with a few meat dishes thrown in for carnivores like myself. The Warm Brussels Sprouts and strawberries in balsamic appetizer were delicious -- and according to the waitress the favorite. I enjoyed the Coq au Vin and my friend the Cauliflower. Desserts were gorgeous -- as one would expect from a French restaurant -- I had the molten chocolate cake and my friend the banana Crème Brule. All in all a lovely dinner. They do not have a liquor license but allow you to bring a bottle of wine (1 bottle for each 2 people) at no corkage fee.

We love BYOB New York restaurants. 3 of us shared the Sautéed Brussels Sprouts and Ravioles a la Crème as appetizers. I had the Cassoulet and they had Magret du Chef, which I also tasted, as main courses. The strawberries with Brussels sprouts were an unusual and very tasty combination. The ravioles were tiny squares filled with Comte, in a rich cream sauce. Easy to share. Vegan Cassoulet takes some adjustment. This one is flavored by a suite of smoked mushrooms and black pepper. It works very well. The Cassoulet is rich and satisfying. The magret de canard wasn't as appealing. Ordered "rare"; delivered "medium". Too bad, the chocolate sauce and red bell pepper coulis were excellent. Shared a bottle of 2005 St. Cosme Chateauneuf du Pape.

Some exceptional food is coming out of this tiny kitchen. The welcome is warm and there's obvious pride and passion behind this project. A sliver of a restaurant but cheery and not cramped; even banquette tables have some breathing room. Relaxed, sophisticated ambience, at least on a midweek night. I enthusiastically recommend the crudite trio, sumptuous ravioli appetizer, coq au vin and subtle, complex eggplant lasagna with chickpeas. Molten chocolate cake and fruit tart of the day were terrific also. Menu now includes a duck entree; look forward to going back and trying many more dishes. BYOB makes this an affordable indulgence.

This unassuming restaurant is the other side of the coin from the great meat restaurants of New York. The only flesh served is a delicious and authentic coq au vin. The other dishes include tiny French ravioles in a heavenly truffled cream sauce, an onion tarte served with sauteed truffled polenta, roasted whole cauliflower and lots more. While it's still BYOB, the wine deserves the best you can bring--at no corkage charge.

Can't say enough good things about this place! We've been here several times and the service was always outstanding and the food remarkable! Lived in NY for over a decade and this vegetarian restaurant probably in the top three. I love French food, when I went vegetarian I feared I wouldn't be able to enjoy all the comforts and decadence French cuisine entailed until I discovered Le Village. I hope that everyone can experience this neighborhood gem as I have, it is truly a diamond in the rough (easy village). Yrs I would recommend this to everyone I know. Sometimes I'm so happy with how the food has left me feeling I wouldn't mind shouting it out on he rooftops, I loved it so much. Now only if I can get access from my super.

Had very good experience using Groupon, menu items are pretty tasty and the selection of vegetarian options is satisfying. The pate's are great, especially the country pate (non-veg). Also the gnocchi were a great option. Banana creme brulee is light and refreshing compared to traditional custard. The restaurant is a little cramped and does not have an alcohol selection, but they allow you to bring your own drinks, which is probably a savings. Overall, the food is great quality and the ingredients seemed fresh, although the eggplant lasagna does seem to have store-bought pasta.

This was honestly the best vegetarian food I've had in recent times, so good that even the carnivores at our table didn't feel shortchanged in the least. Every dish we had was hearty, flavorful, and downright succulent. Standouts among the appetizers included the French onion soup, brussels sprouts with shallots and strawberries, beet carpaccio salad, and ravioli with Comte cheese. The coq au vin and roast cauliflower head were memorable. We can't wait to return!
