A word from Le Tartuffe
This fine cuisine restaurant is located in a historical house, a stone's throw from the Canadian Museum of Civilization, the Palais du Congrès (Convention Centre), la Maison du citoyen and minutes from downtown Ottawa and the Casino Lac-Leamy.

The fare at Le Tartuffe faithfully follows the inspirations of the owner, Gérard Fischer, resulting in a pleasing union of his French origins with Outaouais influences. Quite unlike Molière's well-known, hypocritical theatre character of the same name, the restaurant Le Tartuffe is the ideal place to get together to spend happy, easy-going times in a warm, unpretentious atmosphere.

The kitchen produced very well prepared food; the server was young and a little rough around the edges. We'd return without hesitation and expect a good meal, if not necessarily un repas magnifique.

I was expecting more. Food was very good but not as good as the price would suggest. Service was quick and server pleasant although it was a weeknight and there were only 2 other couples in the restaurant. We were looking for an upscale restaurant in Gatineau that was close to our hotel, Chateau Laurier across the canal in Ottawa so it fit our needs. Didn't know enough about the area and what was available to make an informed decision. Overall was a pleasant evening, but moreso because of the company and the walk over the canal on a nice evening, rather than the dining experience.

My party and I had a wonderful time at Le Tartuffe. First of all, the food is excellent - it's incredibly fresh, and the medley of flavours are to die for. The staff was also very helpful, and accommodated those of us with severe food allergies. Service was a little slow, but it gave us enough time to digest between courses. All in all, definitely worth the trip!

A lovely patio for a warm summer evening. The service started slow, as we were not offered a drink for about 20 minutes. Once they realized we were there, it improved. Good food. their homemade chacuterie was lovely.

I was alone at our table for two for about 25 minutes, but wasn't given a menu or bread and wasn't asked if I wanted a pre-dinner drink. However, I was offered a quieter table than the one where I was first seated--one farther from the street noise (which wasn't bad). The food was delicious and the presentation, excellent. The location is great for a pleasant after-dinner walk along the river, in front of the Museum of Civilization.

This is a very handsome resto a block from the Cdn Museum of Civilization and a fine place for lunch or dinner. On a weeknight at 8:30 Tartuffe was almost empty but the service was nonetheless a bit slow. Apps very good and mains, though expensive, were very nicely done, especially my fish. Wines by bottle were dear as well, but a glass of red was excellent and moderately priced.

Visited Le Tartuffe for our wedding anniversary and was pleasantly surprised. Staff was gracious (despite our poor French) and very knowledgable. We didn't feel rushed and really had a chance to savor each course. Menu is expensive and certainly worth it. Will make an excuse to visit Gatineau soon so we can enjoy Le Tartuffe again.

In spite of being located in such an out of the way place, just a short distance from the Museum of Civilization, it was very much worth the trip! The food was delicious, imaginative, and in every way simply superb. I was surprised and delighted with almost every mouthful -- slivers of marinated ginger atop perfectly grilled port tenderloin! What a delicious combination. The service was very friendly and helpful -- not "in your face," which some may prefer, but rather the continental French approach based on the assumption that you are there to enjoy a leisurely dinner of splendid food and conversation. Do seek it out.

Plus: This restaurant should be supported. I feel it is a real asset in the area. The food was well presented, tasty and in the right quantities for each course. Service was attentive and pleasant. Every time I go here I leave satisfied. Minus: One of the two types of butter served with the bread tasted tired; I liked the slightly herbed variety much better. The cappuccino after lunch was a bit bitter for my taste; perhaps they should consider changing the coffee they use to make this.

Truly a neighbourhood gem. As visitors from out of town we found this restaurant through the OPen Table listings. We walked over from Ottawa and our guests were from the Hull neighbourhood; they commented that they especially appreciated going to a restaurant in their neighbourhood.....and then they were in for a surprise! Attentive wait-staff, knowledgeable wine service and outstanding food. Service was well paced and respectful. The food captured the seasonal fresh ingredients and the presentation was creative and manageable. Everyone from 73 to 10 years of age were still raving about each and every course as we left the restaurant. Memories of a perfect evening were made!

Still definitely the best French restaurant in the Ottawa-Gatineau area. Prices are fair, three course meal and coffee for roughly $37 to $48. The food is amazing, a very good selection, the sommelier recommended a wine in our price range that we loved! Now that I've been back, I can't imagine paying roughly the same prices at trendy restaurants where the food is not at all in the same league.
