  • "Great restaurant. Appetizers were delicious and the tagines so tasty. The only so-so dish was the cous cous with vegetables. I was expecting a mild dish but it was too mild for me. I mixed in some of the spicy red sauce that came with the chicken kebab, which helped a lot. The marinated boneless beef tagine was especially good. Added kudos: I made a mistake when I made the reservation. By the time I realized I needed to add 2 people the owner told me it was too late. After several minutes of hand wringing, he went away and came back and assured me we'd be taken care of. I'm not sure what they moved or how, but with very short notice they graciously accommodated all 9 of us. Service throughout the meal thereafter was also impeccable."

  • "I had lunch here on Friday with a group of 4. We all found the food to be authentic, well prepared, flavorful and aromatic. The portion sizes were ample (although served on plates that are a bit under-sized for the quantity of food offered). The staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. We all felt very relaxed and nourished with delicious food. The space is small, but not crowded, and the tables are well organized. The noise level was acceptable for a Friday lunch crowd, with some chaabi-type music playing softly to set the mood. I will come back to this restaurant for lunch (Fri-Sun) or dinner (closed Monday). You should check it out."

  • "Overall we enjoyed our visit to Le Tajine. The waitstaff was friendly and accommodating. We got there at 6 and the restaurant had no other patrons until around 7. I highly recommend the Chicken Bastilla. It has a great crunch and a nice combination of sweet and salty. The M'rouzia and Prunes both had great flavor and I would highly recommend them. The one downside was that the portions are huge and if you decide to share meals family style, you get charged a $5 split fee. Since we didn't ask them to split the plates it seemed like a wasted expensive. Maybe next time I would order takeout to avoid the superfluous fee."

  • "I and three other people went to the charming Moroccan restaurant to Celebrate a birthday and enjoyed so many wonderful dishes of so many flavors of food. I had the plum lamb shank and it was to die for! The sweet plums mixed with almonds and tender lamb was amazing(salty and sweet...yum). One of my friends had the chicken Kebabs and that was also Delicious! Her plate came with a yummy fresh salad. The homemade bread was also so good. We also had the sampler dish and I highly Recommend for people to order that first ... You get a taste of some Really authentic Moroccan food. Loved this Restaurant and customer service was five stars!!!"

  • "Ate here for the first time and was tremendously and pleasantly surprised. The food scene in San Carlos continues to get better and better. Le Tajine is a wonderful experience. Very large selection on the menu of appetizers and entrees. Very unique bread. Our waiter was extremely knowledgable about the menu. Will definitely be going back!"

  • "Our party of 5 ordered one entree and 5 different dishes. The food we ate was not as good as what we've had at other Moroccan restaurants. Our appetizer was a chicken bastille pastry. At other Moroccan restaurants, this dish is moist and full of rich and sweet flavors. At Le Tajine, it was very dry and very mild in taste. Among our dishes, on person ordered a chicken kabob that was very dry. I ordered a lamb prune dish that was good but the sauce was quite thick… and the dish would have been better if paired with a starch such as rice. Another member order salmon in a sour and rich sauce. This was a poor pairing. The sauce would have worked better with a mild white fish. Even then, it was just too rich and sour."

  • "The tagine dishes were well prepared and savory, loved the spices. I had the chicken with olives and prepared lemons (one of my favs) and my wife had the less sweet lamb version that was also very good. The service was attentive; they must have filled up my water glass 15 times. Dinner for two, a shared beet salad and the wine with the $20 corkage fee (seemed a bit high) and no dessert was about $85 (which includes the tip). The place is small and the tables very close together so you can see exactly what others ordered."

  • "Nice addition to the San Carlos dining scene. The atmosphere was simple and elegant, the service was prompt and friendly, and the Moroccan dishes were very tasty. Wines are from Morocco as well, and the 2 red ones we tried, a syrah and a cabernet sauvignon, paired nicely with the lamb tagine. I think it would be a nice place for lunch, too, but for now it only serves lunch on Fridays and weekends."

  • "This is the second time we have been at this new Moroccan restaurant and our first experience was very good. This time two of the three of us had a lamb shank tajine dish (Prunes, and Berbere) and the meat quality was disappointing. My wife said "it tasted like mutton". The service is excellent and last Friday night there were few customers so the noise level was low and we could talk easily. The latte I had was very good. I still think this is a good addition to the many San Carlos restaurants and it is worth giving it another try."

  • "We dine frequently in San Carlos and were glad to see Le Tajine open to add to the variety of restaurants. The food was very good - flavorful and served hot. The Chicken Bastilla was delicious, though there was a bit too much filling to pastry ratio. The Merguez Tajine was good, though we probably wouldn't order it again. Vegetable Couscous was outstanding and would definitely order it again. The portions are quite large, so on the next visit we will probably order a couple of appetizers and one main dish and share them. The staff were friendly and attentive. We are looking forward to returning and sampling many of the other dishes."

  • "Saw that this new San Carlos restaurant had 4.5 stars on Yelp. Went on a Tuesday night. Noise level, once all the tables filled up, made conversation difficult. Waited just a bit too long for the appetizer, the chicken bastilla. It was good, though, probably the best dish of the night. The main course required a too-long wait too - 1.5 hours for the whole experience, sitting down to check, is a bit too long on a weeknight. The variety of tajines we ordered were tasty, though none of us were bowled over. Service was friendly enough, despite the slow kitchen. Overall, I'd give it a 3 out of 5 - perhaps my expectations were set too high by Yelp and the excitement of having a new restaurant in town. Maybe things will improve with time."

  • "My patience was steeply challenged at Le Tajine. After being seated, it took another 20 minutes for a waitress to come over to to take the order. Finally placed the order, another 30 minutes elapsed before the appetizer came...which was a rather moist chicken bastilla. 15 minutes later the waitress announces she "forgot" to place the rest of our dinner order and it would "be awhile" before we were served . Another 32 minutes elapsed until our entres arrived...a very fatty lamb shank bathed in an over sweet prune sauce. The owner comped us desserts for our "trouble" but the waitress "forgot" again to bring the ordered coffee. It took an another 15 minutes to process the check. Waitress recieved zero tip. We will never return."

  • "With all the Italian/Mediterranean restaurants on Laurel St this was a refreshing change. Comfortable/Modern decor. Excellent authentic Morracan food. Tangines and tomato lentil soup are delicious. Kabobs - so - so. Servers friendly and helpful. Prices a little on the mid- high side. Had reservations for a Sat night.- guess that was a good thing... another couple came in at 9:15 and were asked if they had reservations- when they said "no" - were turned away. Pretty surprising given there were 5 servers and about 5 empty tables. Curious about that for a restaurant just getting established and it also seemed there was plenty of time before closing to serve this couple."

  • "A new restaurant in San Carlos that isn't Italian! They have maximized the small amount of space they have so getting to the booth side of the table is a bit of production with tables needing to be moved but it was okay. The place was almost completely full the entire time we were there. Noise level is pretty high and since you are sitting so close to the tables next you, you're probably not going to have any seriously private conversation. We had the Briwats appetizer, Salad Sampler, and M’rouzia tajine. Everything was excellent. I am usually not a huge lamb fan but the meat was so tender and the sauce had such amazing flavors that I would definitely order it again. Great food and friendly service - we'll be back!"

  • "On a street with many good restaurant choices, Le Tagine is a fine addition. The food is distinctly Moroccan, which is to say rich with unusual flavors. The Bastilla combines chicken, sugar and cinnamon to delicious effect. The M'rouzia does the same with lamb, honey, almonds and raisins. Even the Chermoula, steamed vegetables in a simple herb mix, was surprisingly flavorful. If you are looking to try something new, this is the place."

  • "Recommend sharing dishes. There were 3 of us. Le Tajines in on the more pricey side ($90 w/o drinks or tip) which is why I labeled for Special Occasion. Chicken Bastilla - as reviewed by others, sweet and savory. Great textures and flavors Rbati - (Chicken). Very generous portion of couscous (enough to share). Chicken had great flavors although a little dry. Les Tajines - Berbere - (Lamb shank). Deliciously tender lamb. Great flavor stew with tender vegetables. White beans with merguez - beef and lamb sausage. We really liked the sausages. The hot sauce was spicey but flavorful. We finished with Cookie and ice cream and sweet briwats. The briwats were spectacular. Drizzled in honey. hmm.."

  • "Two adults dined at Le Tajine after hearing rave reviews from friends. Thursday evening, 6:30 pm and almost every table was filled. Stayed that way for a few hours. Must be good is the proper guess. The service was informative, helpful, attentive; it looked as though all servers worked well as a team and taught the newer staff covertly. The food is well-planned, perfectly cooked, beautifully served, taste is exquisite. Wine is well-matched and maybe new to this area of the Peninsula. One drawback is a personal one for this writer -- keep the music volume background low. With food like this, nobody really cares to listen to the next table's talk. Count on this place outgrowing itself pretty quickly. We'll be back soon and often."

  • "Outstanding Moroccan restaurant that brings a new culinary, ethnic dining experience to San Carlos. Flavorful foods yet not overly spicy. Authentic Moroccan Harira Soup with tomato, chickpeas and lentils is divine. The salad sampler plate provides a tasty medley of new combinations and can be easily shared. Our favorite is the Fassy lamb shank, which is fork tender and served with couscous and vegetables. The decor is modern and relaxing. The servers and staff are eager to please. We definitely recommend Le Tajine and look forward to dining there again and again."
