Diner Reviews
  • "We like to return to this very good French restaurant on many weeekend visits to Carmel. This past weekend, we were glad to secure an 8pm dinner reservation during a busy Concours weekend. Prices are reasonable for Carmel and the choices are varied (incl. pizza for the kids). Service is fine and not rushed. After dinner, we happen to walk outside in the alley next to the restaurant. Discovered they have an outdoor space, perfect for a warm evening."

  • "This has become our new "go to" spot for al fresco dining. They have a great patio out back with umbrellas, heaters, a fire pit and everything you would need for staying comfortable outdoors....including dog bowls for water if you bring your pooch! And the food just happens to be terrific too! I have had their Caesar salad with chicken many times and it is a delight.....done in a very original style with the romaine standing up with just a nice drizzle of very good dressing & a fresh anchovy and I don't usually even light anchovies! My husband raved about the French Onion Soup and the seafood pasta. My friend loves the shoestring potatoes....a very thin and delicate served French fries! All in all, a great place!!!"

  • "When visiting Carmel, this was our second time to St Tropes Restaurant. It was every bit as good as the first. Would highly recommend for out of towners looking for a great place to dine."

  • "I highly recommend dinning at St. Tropez. The food is excellent and atmosphere is friendly and inviting. All this is due to the couple who own and operate the restrurant. They are involved in every aspect of making it a memorable dinning experience."

  • "went for an enjoyable dinner with my friends. Everybody enjoyed their food and was amazed by the delicious selection and the great french ambiance. Five star service and a great affordable selection of high class wines completed our fabulous experience!"

  • "Food was great. Gluten free bread basket was a disappointment Nice but very little lost in big basket. Food was fantastic and great ambience"

  • "Absolutely outstanding food. Perfect steak frites, sublime St. Jacques and onion soup gratinee. Very fresh Caesar. Wine list limited. Noisy. Pleasant but not attentive service. Strongly recommend this unpretentious restaurant....superb, authentic."

  • "First time at this venue. Got a nice quiet booth. Attentive service. Excellent grilled swordfish. Scallops were frozen and without much flavor. Pasta was not cooked enough. Drinks and wine were good but EXPENSIVE. $157 for two plus tip. Buyer beware."

  • "We were seated in the beautifully appointed patio, with our Cavalier St. Charles puppy lounging under the table. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The food was fantastic; everything the four of us ordered was delicious."

  • "The restaurant was very attractive. Our food was delicious and the ambience great. We dined in the dining room but would enjoy the outdoor dining area next time. Our waiter was very kind and gave us a tour of the restaurant when we were departing. Will definitely recommend and return."

  • "Visited for lunch on a holiday weekend. Great service from arrival through departure. Welcomed by name by the hostess. A small establishment with a pleasant décor. Waiter described the specials without aid of a script. The Nicoise salad on special was very tasty. Interesting variation on the Nicoise was the use of house made chips from two types of fingerling potatoes. Interesting wine list - a few selections from sparkling, white and red by the glass or bottle, with an emphasis on French wines. Most items on the wine list are reasonably priced. Our wine selection was available, just a different vintage than printed on the menu. Overall, this place is a hit!"

  • "We made reservations on OpenTable because the restaurant advertised being dog friendly. We arrived at our reservation time, but the table reserved for us, although quaint, wasn't the best for our 40 LB pup. (Couldn't note dog on O.T.) The hostess advised the patio was for non-service dogs, so we asked if the patio had any available seating. The hostess took us out and we found a table next to the fire pit. We dined comfortably next to the fire pit and used blankets provided. The Hawaiian pizza was delish! The crab cake was nice...and the plate served to our dog had him licking the plate-oh, he's a dog, of course he licked the plate! Opportunity for improvement--ensure the patio cushions are clean after guests leave and a table is serviced."

  • "The food was really good, but not five stars. I had the duck, which was really good, but the reduction needed to be reduced more. The martini I ordered was good, but so strong that I could barely drink it. the latte seemed like brewed coffee, not espresso with steamed milk. Service was fine but nothing special."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "The service was exceptional. The grand mariner souffle and the onion soup are the main attractions"

  • "This was our second trip to Le St. Tropez in Carmel. Great location on Dolores St., cute French decor and very good food. Our favorite is the dessert - the Souffle is a must order!"

  • "This was my second visit to Le St. Tropez. Both of my experiences there have been excellent. The food has been consistently delicious and the service and ambience are very pleasant. I will visit this restaurant the next time I am in Carmel."

  • "Enjoyable dinner. Excellent service, Very good food and service, and all expectations were met. The food was well done in a French manner. Presentation was excellent."

  • "Le St. Tropez is one of the best restaurants in Carmel. The decor makes you feel like you are really in Provence. It also is one of the very few Carmel eateries that is not loud. You can actually hear each other! "

  • "We had been to this restaurant a couple of times before for lunch and had liked it. We thought we would try it for dinner. Unfortunately, the food on that particular night did not meet our expectations. Could be our choice of the entree's, or perhaps the chef has changed."
    Dined on 6/3/2014
  • "compliment to the chef; the food was excellent and well prepared. The dressing of the Scallop dish was very flavorful and tasty; the Tour of Eifel desert was also tasty and well presented. "
    Dined on 5/25/2014
  • "The scallop dish was excellent. They had a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks. Unfortunately our dining experience was ruined by the imperious attitude of our waiter. He barely deigned to take our order and, while on the surface civil to us, he was seething with anger underneath. It was truly unpleasant to even be in contact with him. People like this should not be waiters or perhaps not be in any service job whatsoever."

  • "This was my second time at Le St. Tropez. The first time was for lunch and it was outstanding. Dinner was just as memorable, flavorful, and delicious. The outdoor seating area is a unique and great location. Also, order the soufflé for dessert!"

  • "Dining out with a gluten allergy is usually tough. This place made it very easy! Mostly everything could me made gluten free and their menu was very clear. The staff was knowledgable. Everything sounded delicious, I wish we could have eaten more, but what we did eat was flavorful and fresh. "

  • "My whole family just found out we have a severe gluten sensitivity. So we switched to gluten free on Monday and my son wanted pizza badly. All the items on this menu, minus 6 or so, could be made gluten free or were gluten free. They even offered a gluten free bread basket! The dinner was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Will definitely be back!"

  • "Overall, we had a rather nice lunch. It is a cute restaurant but it lacks a sparkle that would keep people coming back- something like an outstanding service, a personal welcome, something extra or unexpected. Good: tasty food, fast service, good location, clean, nice decor. Needs improvement: personal attention. Our reservation was for a birthday celebration but that went unnoticed by the staff. It's little things like that that make people come back. This place may benefit from hiring an outgoing, friendly, sunny host."

  • "I highly recommend this restaurant. The food is excellent and so is the service. We had the wild mushroom ravioli, sea scallops or "fruits du mar." And for dessert, the "Tour Eiffle," and a round of espesso. Everything from the bread and cheese to the negroni cocktail was perfection. The ambiance is French Country and the food is Champs Elysee. A great splurge ($120 for two - one cocktail, appetizer, 2 entres, a shared dessert and two coffees) for the foodie novice or the seasoned gastronomer. You will definitely leave satisfied!"

  • "Liked this much better than La Bicyclette. Dijonnaise dressing on salad very well balanced. French onion soup very good. Crepes de Veau was great; I'll bet St. Tropez could make a wonderful blanquette of veal too! The veal was tender & tasty, the filling creamy but not overrich; perfect size of 2 rolled crepes for lunch. Croque Monsieur surprised us; a true sandwich, not the classic open-face toast, but generous ham was delicious with a good bun. Crepes Suzette was a fun "blast from the past." Coffee was phenomenal, the best we've ever gotten anywhere in the area in 6 trips over the last 4 yrs. Great service from John!"

  • "We used OpenTable to book our reservation, which made it easy when we arrived. We arrived 15min early and they seated us immediately. The restaurant is quaint and very rustic, but very clean. I rather enjoyed the ambiance. My booth was a little uncomfortable and wanted to hurry up and finish because I could not sit back and relax, but that wasn't a problem really. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. The dessert was off the hook and would return for just that. This is a little hole in the wall but it took me back to Paris when I had the french onion soup. YUM!!"
