Diner Reviews
  • "We used OpenTable to book our reservation, which made it easy when we arrived. We arrived 15min early and they seated us immediately. The restaurant is quaint and very rustic, but very clean. I rather enjoyed the ambiance. My booth was a little uncomfortable and wanted to hurry up and finish because I could not sit back and relax, but that wasn't a problem really. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. The dessert was off the hook and would return for just that. This is a little hole in the wall but it took me back to Paris when I had the french onion soup. YUM!!"

  • "Good food, very friendly service willing to cater to a group with kids. If you do bring kids, be aware that it took a long time for the food to come out"

  • "Great little place with wonderful food in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea. Hubby had the duck and I had the scallops - both cooked and seasoned to perfection. The Gran Marnier souffles are still melting in my mouth!"

  • "We have visited St. tropes every time we have come to carmel. Unpretentious yet sophisticated. If I had one place I had to go to on my visits to carmel, it would be Le St. Tropez. The food is exquisite, and the atmosphere is great. The chef is always close by to answer your questions, and the menu is always vibrant and new yet familiar."

  • "Once again another fantastic meal! Starting with the French Onion Soup, Sharon had the Duck, I had the Ossobuco, we both had a Gran Marnier Souffle......all with Champagne. What a fantastic Valentines Day"

  • "It was a great way to celebrate our engagement and the place was friendly and very welcoming. Food was exceptional. Couldn't have chose a better place to end the night at."

  • "Went here on Valentine's eve, and the place was packed. Not sure why, though! The servers seemed very new at their jobs -- unsure, unable to make recommendations, mispronouncing the names of foods-- but clearly under orders to move diners through. The food was served lukewarm and was only OK. The short ribs-- I was looking forward to these-- we're devoid of richness, and the accompanying veggies may have been reheated in the microwave. I won't be back."

  • "Very nice Carmel-by-the-sea restaurant! It is just off the main street (Ocean Avenue). We got a table for two even on busy weekend."

  • "I met some friends at Le St. Tropez on a Friday evening for dinner. We all had different entrees and everyone raved about what they had for dinner. The wine list was very impressive and included a lot of local wines. The staff was very friendly, the service fabulous and the food was absolutely fantastic! I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "Three is us dined here and had a very enjoyable dinner. We had the scallops, osso buco and veal medallions, and, of the course the soufflé was the perfect ending. The outdoor patio, where I have had lunch is particular cozy and pleasant."

  • "Had dinner with my family and the ambiance is absolutely wonderful! Had the rack of lamb and it was cooked perfectly, juicy and tender. Great wine recommendations. When in Carmel, try it out the price is fabulous for the quality and service."

  • "I cannot praise Le St. Tropez too highly! I was so impressed with the total experience, from the bounteous complimentary appetizer plate, through the entire meal, plus the gracious service throughout the evening. A wonderful place to eat in Carmel."

  • "I enjoyed the visit. The food was very pleasant but depended too much on fresh berries being thrown into every dish except the cream pastas. The breads were good and the crudite pre-dish a little different. The salad was over dressed (advise you ask for dressing on the side). Dessert was very good. We asked for the souffles and they were perfect."

  • "Just a charming restaurant. Energetic chatter as patrons enjoyed their a french cafe food. We had the sea bass, roasted chicken, french onion soups, goat cheese salad and tarte tartin. Every bite was yummy. We'll be back!"

  • "Have been here several times, always a good experience. This time had the veal with a cream peato sauce. Sounds unusual, but tastes great. Aso have had the sea bass and the filet mignon. All are excellent. Special treat for dessert is chocolate souffle - order with dinner."

  • "Went for dinner with an old friend to this amazing restaurant, right in the center of Carmel. Cozy by the fireplace with an amazingly well made drink from their cocktail selection we started the night. The service was excellent. The waiter always attentive, yet leaving us the time and space we needed to catch up on each others lives. The menu was impressive and we both had oysters and each a different salad for appetizers. Our main courses consisting of a lamb and salmon dish were equally amazing. The fabulous night finished with the table-side prepared/flambeed Crepes Suzette. A spectacular feats for all senses. We will be back!"

  • "The butter sauce over escargot was boiled over and did not taste good. The white wine sauce over the mussels was just okay. I definitely had better. I'd rather go to Andre's Bouchee or Anton and Michel. The staff were all friendly and the service was good however."

  • "We had such a great experience at St. Tropez. Not only were they very accommodating to our large party at the last minute but the food was to die for! We started with the fresh Oysters (probably the best I have ever had) and the stuffed figs. Again, delectable. My husband and I shared a hearts of romaine salad and I had the lamb for dinner. The chocolate souffle for dessert was perfection! We had a fabulous meal and I was very pleased with how wonderful the service was, especially during the holidays when most places want you in an out quickly!"

  • "Lunch was very pleasant here. We ended up having French Onion Soup, which was wonderful. The Fromage Pizza was actually outstanding! I would recommend this restaurant to my friends. The only thing that wasn't the best was the service. Also, sitting outside on the new patio was really nice, except a bit awkward at times because they would fold napkins back there in front of you."

  • "Loved the window table; great people watching. The manager showed me their new back patio with fire pit, and also loved the little table in the back by the fireplace. Went for lunch; the Croque Monsieurs were the best we've ever had. Soft foccacia, lean ham, lots of melted gruyere cheese. Nice slices of fresh tomato & lettuce accompanied the sandwiches."

  • "Service was a little rushed and impersonal. Some dishes were excellent but others not so much. It was a busy night but that's no excuse, however I would avoid busy times there."

  • "There is a lot of French cuisine in Carmel and I've had most. This was delicious and authentic and, for me, is rated very high on my list of favorites in town. Great job!"

  • "We were looking for the old St. Tropez which we discovered it is no longer in business and happened to fine Le St. Tropez. We were there for lunch and enjoyed it very much. It was probably the best meal of our trip to Monterey. The scallops were perfect, cooked yet still tender and succulent. My everyday chicken was anything but boring. It was tender and moist and oh so tasty. We both got French onion soup with our meals and it was very good. What else can I say, if in Carmel, give Le St. Tropez your attention. The interior is not as fancy as other places, but the food was very good."

  • "Food was very good but it took about 45-50 minutes for entres after we ordered. That is just too long. Overall the meal took over 2 hours from beginning to end."

  • "Very good food. Highly rated in local survey. Very nice wait staff. Wonderful selection of main courses. All very authentic."

  • "The food was great but not gourmet. The service was outstanding. The background music was appropriate and not too loud. We really do not like background music that is so loud you cannot carry on a conversation. The layout is very good. We really enjoyed the experience."

  • "We were greeted immediately and friendly. Our little booth was waiting for us so we were up for a good start. The both was tiny and the table very low and uncomfortable. The waitress must have been new. Very timid. They had one special that sounded interesting but she came back later (after we ordered) to let us know she had explained it wrong. We changed our order. The steak was ordered medium rare and came to the table medium. The assorted plate of pâté's was mediocre at best. My wife's chicken ok but not great. At these prices you expect top quality food which they don't provide. We will not return!"
