The entire menu is a prix fixe (appetizer, entree, dessert, coffee) with many choices to satisfy all tastes. The duck is my particular favorite. The food is consistently very good and the service efficiently gets one to the theater with time to spare.

The portions are smaller...and not all the sides come as hot as the fish or chicken entree--or the plate itself--for that matter, but Le Rivage still delivers. It is still a favorite because of its daily moderately-priced three-course prix fixe lunch menu that offers many choices of appetizers, main dishes, and desserts. They even throw in tea or coffee. The greeting is always friendly and service is attentive and efficient during the lunch hours. I just wish the portions were back to enormous, as they once were as a standard practice. The pan-seared fish was so delicious I wanted more of it. It was much too thin.

Enjoyed the price-fixe dinner after a Sunday Broadway matinee. We have been here numerous times and always enjoy it. They have all the notable French entrees you would want. Enjoyed the Seafood Crepe special along with Coquilles as an appetizer ($5) extra an then had duck and my wife had the monkfish. Both were very good. Service was fine... the waitress got a little busy and apologized for the wait for the coffee and dessert but it really was only a few minutes. If you want good French food this is the place.

Absolute worst meal I've had in New York. Just bad. It tasted like it had been prepared a day or more in advance and then microwaved. The ingredients weren't fresh, and the preparation lacked skill or effort. Even dessert was lousy. This restaurant is a throwback to a time before America knew what French cooking is. Do not call this French food. It was barely food. Totally disappointing. On a positive note, the staff at the door taking my coat were very friendly.

We used to skim the reviews and ask friends every time we ate in the City. No more. We just go to Le Rivage. We've been here too many times to count over the last few years, often with friends in tow, and the food is always excellent, the service is always charming, the prices are reasonable (for New York) and they make every effort to get you to your theater before curtain time. Special favorites: the escargot (as appetizer or main course), French onion and seafood bisque soups. We will come back again (and again).

There were four of us at Le Rivage for lunch before our matinee. The wine was reasonably priced and a decent pour. The soup was good enough--not much to it but it was flavorful. The entrees were all average or below--I had the duck, two others had the beef bourguignon, and one of us had chicken cordon bleu. Such a shame--the food was plentiful but but just not very good. Live and learn. Also, service was rather brusque--no time for any pleasantries, just give me the order, please! The wines special was good--Cote du Rhone.

Good for late night bite after show. Location is close, food is nice, but we felt a bit rushed with our order. Servers, although polite, were Practically taking plates away while spoon was still on its way down from mouth. In their defense it WAS a bit late, show ended at 10:30, we got to restaurant 10:40. However, they did book us a dinner reservation and it was our anniversary so I think service needed to chill a little. They did make it up with very quick dessert in which they lit a candle . That was A nice touch. :)

My friend is in love with this restaurant so I thought I would give it another try. You can only order the prix fixe dinner which includes appetizer, entree, dessert and coffee for $39. I'm trying to diet, so I wasn't happy with getting all that food. The lobster bisque was a little thin and lacked the usual flavor. The celery remoulade was quite good. My friend loved her lamb chops. My duck brigade was tender with a crisp skin. It came with a little tiny portion of delicious squash but no wild rice or anything else. The creme brulee was subpar. The apple tarte just okay. All in all it was okay and ended up pricey because I got too much food. The service was efficient but unfriendly.

This is a nice little restaurant, the tables are rather close together. The host & hostess need to smile and look as though they might be pleased to see a customer. Same holds true for the waitress. The food was delicious with a nice selection. Wine list good. Although crowded for lunch, we were not rushed.

Le Rivage is a charming French restaurant on restaurant row (46th Street between 8th & 9th Ave.). We went at 8 pm so the theater crowd was gone and the restaurant was very quiet. We enjoyed the friendly service and good selection on the prix-fixe menu, which was a good value at $25.00. My husband liked the mussels appetizer, but his beef Bourgogne was a little chewy. I enjoyed the melon and prosciutto appetizer and Coquiille seafood dish. Dessert was also included and very nice. All in all, a pleasant experience.

They've got before theater dining down perfectly. I went at noon, and the place was soon completely full, but my reservation was honored without a problem. The service was swift and pleasant. The menu was varied with lots of choices for the prix fixe meal. I had the trout almondine and it was delicious! I can never pass on flan for desert and I was also pleased. This is a restaurant row spot that deserves it's long standing for the before theater crowd.

Great Theater District find with solid old time French cooking. The menu has excellent choices at very reasonable for NYC prices. The place is friendly and totally unpretentious - it's kind of a throw back to the 60's or 70's. That only added to the charm. We were late for our reservation and had 7:00 PM theater tickets. Our waitress took charge, was totally agreeable and said not to worry. Everything tasted great from appetizers to dessert and we made it to the show feeling full, happy and relaxed.
