  • "This was our second visit to Le Rivage and there will be a third and fourth visit! Love the menu and the service. Ambience is outstanding. The entire staff makes you feel special and that you are in France."

  • "great duck- crisp, meaty and the sauce was terrific."

  • "Generally very good but bacon served with calves liver was cold and hard, why can't they cook bacon to order, it only takes a few minutes. Bread pudding also good but hard as though microwaved before serving."

  • "One of the best parts of our (my sister's and my) dining experience at Le Rivage was the presence of a friendly couple on one side of us and a friendly woman diner on the other side. We had all been seated at approximately the same time, and, once the "ice" was "broken," the conversations flowed freely among the three tables - the upside of the tables in this small restaurant being crammed in so close together. Although we had allowed plenty of time for our pre-theatre dinner, we were almost late to the show because we had lost track of the time, thanks to being engrossed in conversation."

  • "We got off to a bad start when we received a call in our cab saying we were late. Our reservation was for 12 pm and the woman insisted it was for 11:30. We were able to retrieve our message from the restaurant confirming a 12 o'clock reservation. However, no apologies were forthcoming. Then an elderly man (maybe the owner) grumbled at us for being late.(which we weren't). The quiche was very disappointing. . Because of our experience we didn't leave our usual 20% tip and left 10% cash (they didn't want to take our visa). The waitress, and then the manager came out and again counted out the cash( big todo right at the table). She said they expected a bigger tip. Whew! Glad to get out of there, will never go again, and will not recommend,"

  • "We arrived about 20 minutes late for our reservation because of high volume traffic. The waitress was great and obviously the kitchen is well staffed because we were able to get our three courses of the prix-fixe without feeling rushed and we got to our 2:00 theater with plenty of time to spare. There were plenty of choices on the prix-fixe and everything we had was delicious."

  • "We have been going to Le Rivage for a number of years. Great location near the Theater district that has reasonabley priced French food. They have a prix fixe menu for people going to the show that is nice. We both had the sweetbreads and thought them excellent. The service was good and the restaurant was clean."

  • "On a Monday night, this place was virtually empty. The prix fix offers a wide selection of choice and is a bargain. Food came out fast and tasted ok. Decor is intimate but prsentation lacked imagination. Service was mediocre."

  • "Great meal if you are in the theater district. French food prepared well. The staff is always very attentive and friendly Have eaten here many times and never disappointed. ."

  • "Six of us just enjoyed a wonderful pre-theater dinner at Le Rivage over the weekend. The menu was quite extensive and creative, the presentations were terrific and the food was delicious. The staff is efficient and helpful and we all thought our meals were perfect. The fixed price menu includes an appetizer, entree, coffee and dessert which is more than most others. We look forward to our next visit!"

  • "My friends and I go to Le Rivage every time we are in New York. We always enjoy the food and the service but this time it was totally over crowded. It sees as though they may have added tables and definitely added more chairs to some of the tables. We had a nice round table for 5. I believe we were 4 at that same table before. My one friend was made uncomfortable because waitresses and patrons had to squeeze past pushing against her seat----it was so tight that when the friend next to me had to go to the ladies room I had to get up (which was difficult ) I had to get up and out so she could squeeze out. As I said we love Le Rivage but my friends have asked me to book elsewhere next time if it is going to be so overcrowded."

  • "The moment I entered Le Rivage, I knew I was in a good place. The lovely woman who greeted us at the door made me feel like she was so happy to see me (We had never met before.) and proceeded to escort us to a cozy table, away from the cold air which might find its way in with customers who followed. The food was as comforting as the staff. I am so looking forward to my next visit."

  • "artichoke salad was very good. roast Duck was soft (as if it had been steamed?). Stuffed mushrooms ok, Beef was rather tough. Creme Brulee was fair I would not go back. large menu"

  • "It's extremely hard to find decent restaurants in the theatre district. We normally frequent the same few Italian places and were craving something different, so we tried Le Rivage. Unfortunately, we were not impressed and won't be returning. While the staff was pleasant, the food was only mediocre. We knew we were in trouble the moment the bread basket was placed on the table filled with club rolls. Which are far better suited for a sandwich than a French restaurant. Se la vie."

  • "Our family has been dining at Le Rivage for many years. The food is always excellent. The price is right. The management always has a smile and a sincere welcome for our family. We had the special last week-the filet mignon medallions-cooked to perfection with a delicious peppercorn sauce. Eight thumbs up!"

  • "For the first time portions were small; and the duck terrine was cut up in small portions, and served without pickles..I like pate cut as a block. The talipia fish was just OK, maybe because it was in wine sauce and not available as pan-seared or blackened. The veggies were steamed and under-seasoned. Good bread. Selection of desserts was superb but the napoleon did not taste home-made or fresh. Service was excellent; welcome friendly. The web site is not up to snuff; it offered us only 12:15 PM for lunch when, clearly, there was seating for later sittings. The 3-course prix fixe lunch can't be beat! This remains (despite the downsizing of portions) one of my favorites..But, I left still hungry, which is unusual here. Overall, BRAVO!"

  • "Le Rivage has probably been serving the same food for 40 years - it's your standard old-fashioned French cooking. However, the selection for the pre-theater dinner is much larger than most places. The waitress was very helpful in suggesting wines by the glass to go with our order. There was also a large selection of desserts including an excellent tart tatin. A reliable and reasonable pre-theater choice on restaurant row."

  • "One of the few restaurants that knows how to prepare sweetbreads. Wine list is limited but good. Service is wonderful. What more could you ask?"

  • "Food was hit or miss, wasn't really impressed. Service was great , friendly wait staff. Wouldn't go back with all the other choices available nearby."

  • "As always, I feel as if I have had lunch at a Paris cafe when I leave Le Rivage. The food is always wonderful and plentiful. This visit I ordered country liver pâté for my appetizer and sweetbreads as a main course, nice presentation and flavor. My friend had a salad with goat cheese and a fish fillet for main course. The prince fix lunch special included dessert and we shared apple tarte and crime brûlée. It is nice to see the same wonderful staff and owners each time. I will be back every time I am in Manhattan."

  • "Lovely hidden restaurant, walking in you are transported to Paris. The food is wonderful, and where else can you get a fix price menu after 7.30 for $25. Portions are hearty, food simple but delicious, service attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely be back regularly."

  • "The best thing to say about Le Rivage is its convenience. The food was good, but it lacked presentation and the desserts were pitiful. The wait staff provided service equivalent to a fast food diner. It was not a memorable experience and we won't return."

  • "The priced fixe menu is a welcome sight in an area where good food is hard to find, and when you do find it, it is expensive. To dine here either before or after theater puts you in a time warp, of simpler more straght forward food choices. The service is attentive and the food is good old style French cooking."

  • "Food was excellent and the wait staff very attentive. The prix fixe menu was varied and complete. A bargain at $25...I had a wonderfully tasty French onion soup($3 added charge), chicken cordon bleu that was cooked to perfection and a napoleon that was flakey and delicious. Given it's location on restaurant row...WOW!"

  • "My boyfriend and I went there for Valentine’s Day, The restaurant was very nice. Nice food. But our waitress pushed us to give her more tip. My boyfriend tipped a little over 10%, I told her that my boyfriend left a reasonable tip. She told me that people usually leave double tax as tip. I was shocked that she would actually harass us to give her more tip. The service was only “okay” and the bill was close to $200.00. She walked away from the table leaving the bill on the table, and came back with the bill of the couple that was sitting next to us! showing us how much we should tip. We were very shocked, we left asap. She truly make a 4 star experience a 2 star experience, luckily all of the other staff was warm and nice to us."

  • "We arrived 30 minutes early for our reservation, but did not have to wait as we were seated immediately. The staff was courteous and efficient. We were relaxed and not rushed. Although the restaurant was completely filled, they have enough space between the tables to maintain comfort, not like some of the sardine cans in the theater district. They have a prix fix menu with excellent entrees. Our meals were both delicious. I will definitely return to this restaurant."

  • "I stumbled across this with my friend last year after the opera. We took a chance after viewing the posted menu. We simply fell in love with the place! When we came back to NYC for a visit, we made a point to return this this restaurant. Since our event ended early, we went to the restaurant an hour earlier than our reservation. Nevertheless, they took us in. Although our table was not optimal -- it was really our fault since we showed up early -- we had a splendid time! I loved my meal and the service. I will definitely return!"

  • "My wife and I had an excellent pre-theater Sunday lunch at this charming French bistro. Service was attentive without being rushed. The restaurant creates a warm mood with wood paneling and vibrant impressionist-style paintings. Although the place was packed with a lively pre-theater crowd, by choice we sat towards the back of the restaurant where the tables on either side of us were empty, so we had the chance to relax at our table and enjoy conversation. We were astonished at the number of choices on the prix fixe menu. The muscadet wine was good and reasonably priced. The onion soup gratinee, escargots, celery remoulade and sole bonne femme were all delicious. We loved the apple tart and Napoleon for dessert. We will happily return."

  • "We needed a restaurant for 2 vegetarians who also eat fish, 2 meat eaters, 1 with food sensitivity (and hearing loss), and 1 omnivore, none of whom eat huge dinners. Le Rivage menu after 7:30, when the a la carte choice is available, looked like a good choice. Going that late had a bonus: the theater crowd had left, and the restaurant was wonderfully quiet. The ambience was charming and service was friendly and excellent. The different fish chosen were quite good, and there are many other choices we will try another time. We did not have room for the peches melba, but the caramel custard was excellent."

  • "The service was friendly and professional from the moment we walked in the door. The menu was extensive which made it difficult to choose. Everything sounded delicious. Our food came out quickly and it was simply amazing, from our appetizers to desserts. We were able to sit over coffee without feeling rushed to leave. This was my third time at Le Rivage and I will go back again."
