Diner Reviews
  • "Been here for brunch and dinner. This place is truly a gem; great food in a quant little spot. With the owner taking your order and giving recommendations, you feel as though you are sitting in a small restaurant in France... not SF."

  • "Le P'tit Laurent met and exceeded our expectations. We had been there twice before and this time was the best yet. We had a reservation at 7:45 PM. When we arrived we were seated immediately, even though the restaurant was nearly full, and femained so almost until we had finished our meal. The viands and the wine list are exceptional. We selected easily, and all that we were served exceeded our expectations. Furthermore, the waitress/waiter were completely charming and served, picked-up, and quickly responded when we spilled some water. My wife and I agree that it was a fully satisfying experience."

  • "P'tit Laurent is a truly special place. Somehow equally suited for family brunch or a romantic date, this restaurant is one of those rare places where the sum is greater than its parts. It's also the kind of place where you walk through the door and receive a hearty, vocal welcome no matter who you are. This is a beautiful thing."

  • "$25 for corkage fee for neighborhood restaurant is extortionate."

  • "My husband and I are living in Noe Valley. We come from Belgium and we are missing the French cuisine a lot! This restaurant is the place to be if you want to eat the real French cuisine. We went there maybe 8 times and it was always very good. Laurent and his team are very friendly! During the week, you can choose the "neighborhood menu" it's just 25$ for Starter-Entree-Dessert, you have different choices and this menu is changing every week. The desserts are just amazing. Just go there and enjoy!"

  • "We wanted to try this restaurant and stumbled into their "tax" special. Get a starter and entree (from a set menu) for $20.14! Add a dessert for $2.14! My husband and I both had the lamb shank with green beans...absolutely delicious. We shared two starters, a smoked salmon salad (with lots of smoked salmon) and the escargot (which was in a pesto sauce. And we shared the strawberry and rhubarb dessert. Perfect. We'll be back to this great restaurant. Seemed like the majority of diners eat there a lot, the staff knew many of them."

  • "I go to this restaurant as often as I can. I love the menu and the size of the portions! This is classic French cuisine at his best. No fancy stupid dishes with so little food that you need a magnifying glass to see it. The service is excellent, the staff very friendly and the atmosphere is great."

  • "After a grueling commute on a weekday night from the East Bay back home to San Francisco, I needed a dining table where I could quietly have dinner, think and unwind. Open Table showed that a table was available so I took it! My last visit to Le P'tit Laurent was with friends with whom I enjoy dining and conversation. Le P'tit Laurent becomes one's friend so I'm grateful they were so accomodating to my solo visit. They have table configurations for twos, fours, sixes and tens (including the bar) and there is an intimate feel for each. The Tax Season price-fixe grabbed my attention. It was superb, as always."

  • "We had high expectations for the place. Ended up going with a group of 5 plus an infant. The noise level was quite high which ended up affecting our experience. The fish was over cooked and the beef fillet was pretty good so mixed review there. We will probably try the place one more time to get a better sense."

  • "Cream of vegetable soup was wonderful. Very nice salad infused with artichoke hearts and crumbled cheese. All four of us had the filet steak. Excellent although my taste buds now prefer a simple salt and pepper base. The sauce was a bit sweet. French fries were really good complement to the steak. For dessert we shared a French toast dessert and coffee. This is our second visit and we will return. It is hard to have a conversation if the cafe is full."

  • "Lovely, intimate french ambiance. The service was attentive without being intrusive and food excellent - very popular place, my group had to wait to be seated in spite of having a reservation but we were taken care of very well. Looking forward to going back"

  • "We loved this restaurant the first two times, having had fantastic cassoulet, fish, beef dishes and absolutely great friendly service. I reviewed this a couple months ago. But on our third visit, the cassoulet was definitely "off." The duck leg confit was not crispy, and the skin slid off the meat in a greasy lump. The sliced sausage was good, but the third meat, some kind of pork, was mostly fat and inedible. I barely finished half the dish, and it was $29. For $25, my husband got the neighborhood three-course dinner, which was very good. The salad to start is enough to share, as was the dessert (profiteroles). Wine choices are always good. I'm so disappointed about that cassoulet, as it is one of my favorite French dishes."

  • "...loved the cream of zucchini soup and carpaccio but the sauce on the filet was too overpowering for what was a lovey piece of filet. Would like to try the rack of lamb next time and the artichoke salad!"

  • "We had a very satisfying evening. Great food, and enjoyed the host's gentle humor. Although the restaurant was busy, we were allowed plenty of time to catch up with each other as we enjoyed a leisurely meal. Love that we have such a great place right in our neighborhood."

  • "Wonderful little neighborhood gem with great food and very reasonable prices. We went early which I like to do as you have more of a choice of tables.. The Early Bird Neighborhood dinner give you a choice of 2 openers and 2 main courses and any of the desserts. I had the spinach soup which was delicious followed by the roasted pork with mashed potatoes. My dessert was a rhubarb and strawberry gem. Loved every bite!"

  • "We love this petite gem for it's generous spirit embodied in the restaurant's owner & staff. The food is simple & delicious. A warm, friendly, lively spot to gather for a weekday meal or special celebration. The prixe fix daily is a bargain. My mother wants to go everytime she's in town. We've had great times with family & friends of all ages here."

  • "From the moment we walked in, we felt like we were in a familiar neighborhood bistro. My colleagues and I were heartily welcomed and immediately taken to our reserved table. We enjoyed a glass of wine while we waited for our party. Our host and owner helped us with our wine choice, entree choices, and specials. Special glasses from Alsace were brought to the table to pair with our wine choice. Our salad and soup was excellent and our entrees even better. Throughout the meal the owner and other staff thoughtfully saw to our needs and even playfully teased us for not cleaning our plates. We all agreed that we need to visit more often. It was Tuesday night and the place was full and I can see why!"

  • "A friend of mine had sent me a list of notable places in San Francisco to have brunch. It never occurred to me that this french gem would be off the beaten path in Glen Park. The atmosphere was definitively French, the staff was accommodating, and the food was delicious. A simple menu with simple ingredients makes for fanciful flare (funny how that works). Don't hesitate to go. We had two groups of 6 and they were extremely accommodating."

  • "This is our long delayed 2nd visit and we finally have our friends to join us. We are so glad that what we were boasting about this restaurant was delivered - great food and customer service. Thanks Kris for your assistance. Keep up the good work."

  • "My wife and I spend a considerable amount of time in France. We have been to most of the French-styled bistrots in SF. While there are several excellent examples of French food in SF, LPL is easily the most authentic replica of a Parisian version. With dishes such as Cassoulets and beef stews and rabbit, with aromatic flavors deserving of the Normandy coast, LPL nails it with tender loving care. Also, the French waiters add to the experience without the hauteur of a Paris restaurant. I requested the same table we like and the restaurant accommodated us. That does not always happen in SF. This place is a winner."

  • "We have eaten here many times and the food, service, and overall dining experience is consistently great!! We could not have received better service and the food is awesome. Our party of 4 each had the neighborhood special, the spinach soup was perfect and flavorful, and the sweatbread dish was delicious. 3 of us loved the mahi, mahi and the1 lanb shank dinner was equally loved. We also ordered a few extras from the menu and the wine list is excellent and priced right. This place is a gem, you won't be disappointed."

  • "Classical French cuisine. Nothing out of the ordinary, dishes are well executed but don't have the wow factor of some other places. However their $25 menu (2 choices of appetizer + 2 choices of entree + dessert) is hard to beat: for that price (which is the price of a single entree in many other restaurants), you have a (very) full meal that is very satisfactory."

  • "One of my dinner guests is a very fine chef and prepares meals like this at his home. This was his first visit to the restaurant. He remarked that the food and everything about the dinner was excellent and that he heartily approved, The recipies are classic and this is not only a neighborhood gem, but a San Francisco gem."

  • "A genuine French Bistro in Glen Park. Wonderful soups. A great cassoulet. The prix fixe Neighborhood Menu changes weekly and always has some marvelous choices."

  • "Enjoyed our dinner. Food was excellent. We had "moules marinieres" and rabbit which were very good. The place was very full and buzy and a little noisy. We did not have the greatest table, near the entrance door and I felt cold every time someone came in. Also, I would not want a table near the bathroom....much too close!"

  • "If the French have comfort food, this is it. I've never been a Cassoulet fan, but once I had it here, I'm hooked. My wife is very much captivated by the steak frittes. The decor is like a neighborhood Parisian bistro, the owner and wait staff are kind, attentive, and gracious. We come over and over again, bringing friends, visitors, and family. Never a disappointment."

  • "This place was a perfect choice for Valentines, and we will definitely return. The food was great, portions were just right, service was timely and attentive, and it's exactly the right atmosphere for a cozy dinner."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "We were there for Valentine's Day. The menu was "prix-fixe," $69 per person, wine and coffee not included. The onion soup had a flavorful broth; the filet mignon was also good, but nothing special; the lamb shank was chewy, not tender. The real problem, however, was the service. Le P'tit Laurent has a French bistro ambiance, with French-speaking staff, but the service was rush rush rush, American-style, from the moment we sat down, although no one else was waiting for a table. They gave us champagne before we finished our wine and brought the bill before the end of dessert, without asking if we wanted coffee. If you want a leisurely meal prepared and served with pride in the French tradition, this is not the place."

  • "I wish that SF had more such places: neighborly, charming, French in tone, bistro in spirit."

  • "I have dined at Le P'tit Laurent February 2013 for dinner, and in February, 2014 for brunch. Both experiences were wonderful. At both times service was friendly, and helpful. The brunch items e.g. French toast and smoked salmon salad were "surprisingly" generous, but well prepared. Brunch was busy, and you may have to speak up a bit for conversation, but that only added to the festive atmosphere. I was very satisfied with the food, the service, and the price point, and would be pleased to return"
