A word from Le Pois Penché
Le Pois Penché perpetuates the style and spirit of Paris in the 1940s, where brasseries perfected the concept of French cuisine as ‘comfort food’. Mindful of its legacy, Le Pois Penché appeals to a mixture of young adventurous diners, seasoned connoisseurs, late-night bon vivants, tourists, and local habitués, always eager to spark conversations and chance encounters over a glass of award-winning wine and gastronomy steeped in tradition. Nowhere are their desires better fulfilled than at Le Pois Penché, where opulence and everyday delightful hospitality intertwine.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Very disappointed with dinner here. I ordered the shrimp and scallop rissoito, for around $34. Came with 2 shrimp and 2 scallops, which at some high end restaurants small portions are the norm for good food. However, they had absolutely no flavor. The risotto was suppose to have saffron, could definitely not taste that, or anything else. A box of rice-a-roni with boiled shrimp would have tasted a lot better! My husband got the sea bass which was nowhere as tender or flaky as we are used to. I would the say the skin consisted of 50% of the portion that was given! it was the thinnest cut of "sea bass" I have ever seen. Pint of beer $12, glass of wine $16. They do not list drink costs on the menu, unless you are ordering a bottle."

  • "Second time to pois penché. Drinks and oysters were very good. We then ordered fish and a plate of scallops and shrimps. Both were very good although the potions were small (small fillet of fish in the bar noir plate and 2 shrimps and 2 scallops in the other entree - both around 35$ per plate). We were also charged 9$ for bottled sparkling water. This is a usually a good indication of how aggressive prices are. Overall the food was quite good but you can easily find better value in montreal."

  • "Food was great, service exceptional, lots of room, but the prices are quite high."

  • "Très bon rapport qualité-prix. Belle ambiance de brasserie parisienne. Vaste choix de champagnes de qualité à prix raisonnables."

  • "If you like oysters, short list quality food menu with a reasonable range of interesting wines: Le pois penché is your place. Nice atmosphere, Service a little unequal at times (from great and passionate to semi-absent and slow). Most people can find something they like and some of their specialty are just delicious. Well located in the downtown area, the locals tends to go back."

Merci."

  • "Went there for a business lunch. Food and service were perfect. My guest enjoyed it too."

  • "I always have lunch with one of my good friend there. The service is very attentionate and classical. The decor is like a Café in Paris. They make GREAT tartare. The wine list by the glass is quite nice and the even have champagne by the glass, fresh oysters and great Table d'Hote Menu everyday."

  • "I had read such great reviews that the actual experience was disappointing. There was mix ups about the ordering from the waiter and then charged for things we didn't order. This was corrected but shouldn't hVe happened. They ran out of the dessert we all wanted and since we were celebrating a special birthday this was disappointing also.I had. Mentioned when reserving about the biithday but guess no one took note of this."

  • "Were two couples for the new years eve fixed menu. Service was friendly, prompt and impeccable. Serving sizes a bit on the nouvelle cuisine side but to be expected when it's a seven course meal. Wine prices a bit high. Food was absolutely fantastic and beautifully prepared. A perfectly enjoyable experience."

  • "I lived in Montreal 20 years ago and I must have walked by the building at the corner of de Maisonneuve & Drummond thousands of times - always wondering about it and assuming it was one of those run-down spots so typical of downtown Montreal. But the neighbourhood seems to be changing! I was visiting Montreal over the holidays and took a chance on Le Pois Penche based on Open Table recommendations and was very pleased! The food was delicious (I had the seared bass - Morue - and my husband had the Soupiere - like a bouillabaisse). The chef's tart of the day was superb (almond and blueberry). The service was exemplary (they work as a team so we saw several servers during our meal). The French Brasserie atmosphere was perfect as well. Thanks!"

  • "Could be my fault for ordering the replacement lamb option (they were out of "carrés d'agneau", but the food was good. My wife though would rate it higher a little. What made the evening great was Pierre-Étienne's service: A1. Also, the wine and atmosphere. A good place to grab a late dinner with friends too!"

  • "This was my first time at Le Pois Penché and I will surely be coming back. I went to a lot of restaurants during the Taste Mtl menu, but Pois Penché was really one of those that treated us like as if we were regular clients and did not differentiate be it through their hospitable welcome, their menu selection, the quality and taste of their food, or their service. Highly recommended!"

  • "Wonderful restaurant, with very good food, service and ambiance (background music not too loud - perfect) Looks like the bar picks up late in the evening. Will definitely go back to try the after theater dinner (late dinner menu)."

  • "Visited APP during Mtl's 2nd restaurant week & though I've been here before, I've generally relegated my selections to oysters and wine. Since the RW menu didn't really offer much in the way of seafood, I actually had the opportunity to explore their menu a little deeper. I ordered the salmon, which was cooked perfectly and we shared a bottle of wine. I really did enjoy it, I just prefer the vibe of the bar over the table service. Overall, I find APP to be a good option for the downtown area, but I would stick with the sitting at the bar and enjoying their seafood.. APP is located off of Crescent street, the bar is spectacular with a super by the glass wine selection, oysters are a nice option, and their seafood platter is mouthwatering."

  • "We dined at this lovely Bistro our last night in Montreal and it felt like we were in one of our neighborhood favs in Paris. The food and menu selections were marveilleux and service was tres bien! The wine selections were also perfect for our meal...loved it! Even if a 4 year old did come up with the name...worth a visit :)"

  • "Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Eggs Benedict okay, but ask if they can switch out the potato chip type fries, they're not good. The server was very nice, and answered questions well, but took a very long time to clear the plates and bring us our bill."
