Le PigeonGreat food at a fair priceThe food was excellent. The prices were very fair. Since this restaurant only seats ~25 people, you should treat your reservation with great respect, since an empty chair means lost money for the owner. Hence, don't reserve x number of seats for dinner, and then not show up - let alone, not even make an effort to call and cancel, so that someone else can take your place.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMOoh la laI started with trout decked out with strawberries. It was perhaps the best thing I have had in my life- piquant not sweet, a burst of full-on spring in my mouth.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMYoung FoodiesMy prom date and I loved this extremely, delicious french restaurant! Both him and I had some of what the other had ordered, and it was phenomenal. In his words," It's like my palette is on fire and wanting more!" The servers were polite and looked happy to be there as well as the chefs!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's the Best!Gabriel Rucker continues to put his all into le Pigeon. He is there, greeting guests, preparing amazing food, and overseeing this very sweet restaurant. We diners feel lucky for the experience!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWine list is very spendy.Wine list is very spendy. Great waiter and they could accommodate my gluten-free diet without fuss. Very small place and difficult to get reservations unless made quite far in advance.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMOUTSTANDING !This is was a romantic setting. I love it as a community dining as well. SO friendly, outstanding service, easy going, non stuffy,
outstanding food ! And the desert topped it off.
Ahhhhh............5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMStill the best food in Portland...Hadn't been for a few years, while I was disappointed the cornbread-maple ice cream is no longer on the dessert menu, everything was fantastic. Always impressed at the creativity (ie acorn creeps with buffalo heart filling) and depth of flavor combinations (whipped ricotta appetizer, fava-mint gnocchi). Gabriel deserves the acclaim, bravo.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMRelaxing Indulgence for TwoWe ordered wine, Tannat, and a ricotta appetizer, both quite lovely. The hubs had sweetbreads which he thought was divine...he would definitely reorder...his test for food success. I had the beef bourguignon and honestly...after 45 years of marriage wherein I have cooked many beef roasts and consider it a personal successful entree...I promptly melted at first bite. So rich, velvety, flavorful, tender, yikes! I was in heaven. Both entrees were generous, my beef was accompanied by mashed potatoes and a side dish of carrots, we loved every bite. We ordered two desserts, the chocolate pavlova and the profiteroles plus a small pot of coffee which were perfection. We enjoyed every aspect of our dinner at LePigeon and will definitely return.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful mealLe Pigeon always delivers. Guaranteed 5 star meal every time.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMHeavenly experienceEvery dish we ordered was sooooo good and the price was very reasonable too.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMIf in Portland - GoPortland is a great place to eat and drink. Going to Le Pigeon just made it that much better!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe bestThe food was some of the best I have ever eaten anywhere. One night was not enough we went back the next day to try other items on the menu. Would like to go again to try the tasting menu and the burger looks fantastic.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent!I would have never found Le Pigeon, except that it was right by my motel, and after Googleing nearby restaurants to it, found this exceptional gem!
The staff is very friendly, and the chefs are extremely talented. The wines that were paired with the tasting menu were perfect, and the tasting menu itself was better than I expected!
Worth every penny!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMCreative MenuLive in Ct. Brought friends from Arizona. Always terrific, and will definitely come again4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMStill tops! It's great to see that this benchmark of creative fine dining still deserves its reputation. With classic French technique applied to an innovative combinations of ingredients, the team creates out-of-this-world dishes. The beef cheeks bourgogne and foie gras profiteroles are staples not to be missed. The rest of the menu rotates with whatever top seasonal ingredients catch the chef's eye. Sommelier Andy Fortgang has put together a wonderful list of wines that complement the dishes, and can deftly match a bottle even if your mains include both halibut and beef. Plus, there are plenty of under $50 wines that will please even the connoiseur.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMEach course was delightfulEach course was delightful with a surprising flavor profile. Excellent4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding food - sharedOutstanding food - shared tables make the experience fun. Warm and cozy atmosphere. Definitely will go again.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMDespite cramped quarters theDespite cramped quarters the service was smooth and flawless without being overly attentive. Food was excellent as usual.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMEar Plugs Advised for Le PigeonIntriguing menu although everything tasted a bit heavy, almost bitter. Perhaps better served in fall and winter than spring. Service was excellent, interior is fun and lovely and reminds me of places I loved in Paris. Noise level makes it impossible to carry on a conversation over dinner. I would not return for that reason. After dinner coffee and house made truffle were standouts. My husband is more of a foodie and he found the menu quite intriguing.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMNote for couples: All of theNote for couples: All of the seating here is either communal tables or chef's counter. We were not told of this, so it was jarring to make a reservation and find ourselves seated at the same table as a group of five guys. The staff there handled our dismay extremely well and moved us to the chef's counter, but it would have been great to know about this ahead of time. The chef's counter is cool though, fun to watch the food being prepared.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSome of the most deliciousSome of the most delicious food I've ever had. Try the chicken "gnocci". Server was attentive, but not intrusive. Love the open kitchen. Fancy-casual. Lovely.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect place. The food isPerfect place. The food is awesome. The wine list is complete. The service was perfect. Sit on the bar, and see how the chefs are cooking. Best place in Portland.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMfrom the moment we walkedfrom the moment we walked into le pigeon, service was impecible. the manager greated us, took our coats and led us to the coziest corner table by the windows. amazing and extensive wine list, with quite the price range. we very much enjoyed the escargot served with a spinach, potato, garlic soup which is poured over tableside. the chorizo stuffed pork loin (pork three ways!) was fantastic as well as the burger cooked to a perfect medium rare and topped with gruyere cheese served with a blue cheese bibb lettuce salad. to finish we enjoyed the creme brule with an orange blossom and rhubarb compote with a great press of stumptown coffee. fantastic all around! many thanks le pigeon!4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMTasty French twist! This is a great little restaurant with an adventurous take on French cuisine. Very delicious food with unique twists. Service and atmosphere are great!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat vibe, great service,Great vibe, great service, great wine, but I was quite disappointed in my entree - WAY too salty. Other items my wife and I ordered ranged from good to very good. Foodies I respect have had much better experiences than I did at Le Pigeon, so I'm willing to go back and see if it was an off night or poor selections on my part.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMI had an amazing experience.I had an amazing experience. The food was amazing, the service was prompt and friendly, and we even got free truffles since we didn't order dessert. Even better, we went to Le Pigeon for dinner on Easter and our server brought us homemade peeps! I highly recommend this restaurant for an all around great dining experience.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food, great service.Fantastic food, great service. Fantastic restaurant:) Best meal I've had in Portland.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMHadn't been in too long. ItHadn't been in too long. It was nice to be back in that cozy room. Mostly everything was just delicious (especially those mussels), and as inventive and playful as ever. The dessert was a little disappointing b/c it feels like it hasn't changed in a long time. But just a little. Overall the meal was an absolute delight.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLived up to the hypeHad the 5 course tasting menu and the dishes were as good as I've ever had, as good as Jardiniere and Cyrus. IMO, the best dishes were the mussels, escargot and dessert, foie gras ice cream? Service was great, the wine list was composed very well, I had the Rioja and the pinot by the glass, both very, very good. Next time I'm in Portland, I'll be back.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMA real gemCafe with very fine food, delicate sauces, innovative plating.
Very highly recommended for discriminating diners.
A real gem.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLimited menu changes weekly.Limited menu changes weekly. A variety of options although only one in each category. Seasonal desserts were odd but delicious. Tried the Basil Cake with Mango Ice Cream and pancetta. Individually it didn't work but combined did.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMI've never seen a restaurantI've never seen a restaurant that so clearly reflects the stamp of its chef. Gabe Rucker is a genius. Of particular note were the beef cheeks, the foie gras ice cream, and the pasta dish that came second on the tasting menu.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent andThe food was excellent and so was the service.
Burger is great! The bacon added another dimension to the meat, and the mustard was nice and spicy. Faux gua is a must.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMthe bestThis is my very favorite restaurant in Portland. I had not been in over a year and was wondering if the quality had suffered any over time. This was not the case. Everything, everything, everything was spectacular. I would warn people though.... This is a very small and intimate restaurant so don't go if you don't like getting squeezed in and sharing tables with other people.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent menu and comfortableExcellent menu and comfortable atmosphere. Staff was attentive but not over bearing. They really know their menu.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat MealGood times, came early on a table reservation and was promptly seated at the bar. Enjoyed an amazing 5 course tasting menu, And rolled out of there happy.
The chefs were engaging and entertaining, and the wait staff was prompt and polite.
Food was delightful and wine list adequate :)
Not a small table gaze romantically at each other kind of place though, due to the "family style" seating arrangement.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWell worth the price!very nice place to go for good food and conversation. Not a "romantic" restaurant due to communal seating.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food. The WedgeExcellent food. The Wedge Salad was exceptional, as well as our main courses (Skirt Steak & Pork). Definitely will return...dying to try the burger we kept seeing being delivered to tables. Sat at the bar, which was fun to watch the cooks.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AM25th Anniversary CelebrationThe skirt steak and lamb loin & cheek was tender and flavorful; from starters to dessert, everything was delicious and creative. Each course was perfectly timed, our server was pleasant and attentive (without hovering). We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Le Pigeon and will definitely return!3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAn inventive Chef!I enjoyed the tasting menu with the wine selection. Chef created the tasting selections as the night went along and the wine matched the food excellently. The service was fine. I was sitting up on the counter where I could see Chef preparing my selections. They were all worthwhile and all were interesting and tasty. I can not recommend Le Pigeon, Chef, the wine steward and the staff enough. The meal was fantastic and if I am lucky enough to visit Portland again Le Pigeon will be on my list to visit. For me, an out of towner the $65 for the tasting menu and the attendant $35 for the wine was a bargain. If you are in Portland on business or pleasure do increase your pleasure by booking Le Pigeon.1/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a treat! An adventure from the ordinary - the food is outstanding. Going with the chef's menu, we love trying something new every time and are never disappointed.10/17/2012 12:00:00 AM
