  • "A must visit if you're in Portland - it met every expectation - what a treat, for the true gourmand."

  • "Great urban place, sitting next to other people at long tables or at the bar makes you feel cozy and at home. Outstanding interior. Food is great but the meat courses very stuffy and rich. Would always visit it again when staying in Portland."

  • "The chef tasting menu with wine parings is wonderful, I highly recommend letting them steer the meal."

  • "Best meal of the year. The burger and the beef cheeks were amazing."

  • "Reservations is highly recommended, weeks in advance if you want to chose your dining time. The smaller the party, the easier you can get a reservation. This place is tiny! We ordered everything that had foie gras. Had the pork and fish for dinner. All the dishes were prepared perfectly. Our favorite was the Best pork we have ever had!"

  • "Good food but the restaurant needs a redesign inside. The music was terrible and the staff did not work well in the small space. Too bad because the food is good. I'd recommend Beast instead- similiar fare and better ambiance and service."

  • "Wonderful food and the service was outstanding just the right potions of carefully prepared dishes"

  • "The atmosphere was great and the space was beautiful! The food was pretty good. My complaint would be that we got the tasting menu and everything we got was on the regular menu. We've done several tasting menus and it has always been something special that isn't available otherwise."

  • "We have read the reviews from people and were excited to go to Le Pigeon. It was different atmosphere which We don't mind at all but our food was EXTREMELY SALTY that it burn our mouth, We could not taste the meat, the price was over price."

  • "The food was perfect, wait staff attentive, cozy atmosphere. In one word, fantastic!"

  • "For food this good, you want to be able to focus on it and not feel obligated to chat with the folks next to you. When having a meal of average food, it's great to enjoy meeting and visiting with new people. However, the food at Le Pigeon is too good, so not a fan of communal seating and will sit at the chef's counter next time. We had the 5 course with wine pairings. Divine."

  • "One of the best meals I've had in Portland in a long time. The service was absolutely top-notch without an ounce of pretension. The burger (which we shared as an appetizer) was one of the best I've ever had. The entrees and dessert were spectacular as well. This place earns its reputation. I can't believe this was my first time dining here - I have a lot of make up to do!"

  • "One of the most accommodating and delicious dining experiences I've had in the past year. I would go so far as to say it was a damn-near perfect meal. The pigeon was one of the most memorable meals I've ever had."

  • "Le Pigeon is my favorite dining spot when in Portland for work. The small menu changes weekly - with some favorites staying on indefinitely - and the emphasis is on beautifully presented yet unpretentious food. This is the type of place where you'll find foie in all its unctuous glory, but also rabbit, beef cheeks, and even the namesake pigeon (delicious!). Don't miss the carefully curated wine list from which staff can make thoughtful recommendations. The interior is intimate, just over 35 seats. About 12 spots are at the chef's counter where you can watch the uber-tiny kitchen and staff in action, the rest are spread between several communal tables. If you're a solo diner - or food-focused couple - definitely request a counter seat."

  • "I've always loved Gabriel Rucker's creative cooking at Le Pigeon. It's crowded, and noisy, and I'm not always in love with the dessert menu. Still these are relatively minor caveats when presented with such superlative first and second courses. My friends, both of whom were dining there for the first time, loved their Beef Cheeks Bourgignon. The fois gras (with melon, proscuitto and grapes) was deemed superb by one friend, and the crab and artichoke toast with arugula, sea bean and lemon tempura was a fantastic first course for me and the other friend. Corned Lamb Shoulder with potato, cabbage cream, huckleberries and horseradish was a delicious revelation. We chose an excellent Languedoc Rose. An exceptional meal."

  • "From the bread to wine pairing through the entree and ending with dessert it was an amazing dinning experience!!!"

  • "Love the French cuisine, restaurant is small, but quaint. Good atmosphere, with the exception being forced to mingle with people not of my liking. The food was amazing, & I am looking forward to trying more of the menu, particularly the multi course meals. Will definitely be going back"

  • "Our party of 5 had a memorable evening. The food, the wine, and the service were great."

  • "Great food as always, but I really hate the new community table layout. I like to visit the restaurant on special occasions and it's difficult to have a private conversation over dinner when strangers are seated right next to you. Community tables look great in photos and probably even better for the restaurant because they can pack us in like sardines, but the diner experience suffers in my opinion. I don't want to be shoulder to shoulder with a stranger when I'm spending $150 on dinner. I really wish the layout would return to individual tables."

  • "If you have been playing with the idea of eating here stop thinking about it and just do it. The food first of all was so delicious, well thought out, clean and beautiful. There have not been many meals in my life that I will never forget and this is one of them. The chef has most def put his whole heart and mind to the grind stone in this restaurant and it shows through the food and by the way the cooks prepare and carry themselves in the kitchen. Lets not forget the service, from the moment you walk in they are warm and welcoming. They were craftsman at providing a service that was not overbearing but always there and attentive when you needed. And their knowledge of the wine was out of this world. Like I said before DON'T miss this gem!"

  • "I've never had beef cheek before, and I wasn't sure I ever would. It was tender and the potatoes were creamy and fabulous. The alcohol was a little pricey, but it's worth it if you're already eating there."

  • "We went for our anniversary and they made it a very special evening."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "Le Pigeon was fabulous the first time my girlfriend and I dined there last year. We celebrated our one year anniversary there this year and it was even better! The food was freshly prepared and tasty to the last bite. The wine pairings were spot on (4 out of 5 were) and the service was above average. I would recommend the tasting menu paired with the wines."

  • "Great accommodating service. Food could have been 5 stars except for a few minor nit picks, but since I believe 5 stars is perfect and I only have a choice of 4 or 5, 4 it is. Otherwise, I would have given a 4.6, but that isn't possible. The pigeon breast offered that evening should not be missed. The foie gras profiteroles stuffed with foie gras ice cream is beyond normal expectations even for a restaurant of this reputation. I would rank it with Rich Table in San Francisco, but without the SF healthy surcharge and tax, plus much friendlier service. Be aware the chef is very much into vivid contrasts. His sauces are very assertive, so a little goes a long way. Don't hesitate to go to Le Pigeon!"

  • "Was a really great place to celebrate my birthday dinner with my husband. He chose it thinking it would be special and it was. The halibut was amazing. We want to go back to try their signature hamburger of all things! Great wine list, great service. Have been talking about it to friends ever since!"

  • "We were lucky to book relatively last minute for a 5pm seating for this highly recommended Portland restaurant. We drove from Vancouver, BC for a weekend trip, and made it just in time for our reservation. We were a bit skeptical about eating so early, but hearing what a fabulous city this is for food and drink, we thought...well we can always shop and then go for a drink after. We had the 7-course tasting and we recommend it fully. Every dish that came out blew our minds from beginning to end. Beautiful, fresh, rich and interesting. We split a bottle of Oregon pinot - delicious. The meal was deceptively filling...we ended up going shopping after, but never made it to the drinks since we were SO FULL. Service was great!"

  • "We ordered the five course tasting menu plus desert and wine flight. Everything was amazing and portions just right. It is not an appropriate place for a private, romantic dinner because of the seating -- either at the bar or one long table seated close to other diners. We found that very enjoyable, meeting delightful new people, but not everyone might."

  • "This was the first time that my sweetie and I have eaten at Le Pigeon. My daughter made the reservation and said we MUST GO. The food was AMAZING. I had Duck Confit that was the perfect blend deep, rich duck with a fresh, crunch of snap peas and a fruity strawberry/turnip relish. My sweetie had Halibut prepared in a cream sauce and served with porcini mushrooms and an incredible Ancho sauce. He even used the left over bread to finish off the sauce!!! After a meal this good it's difficult to WANT dessert. But the Creme Brulee beckoned and we enjoyed this with several other delicious desserts. I loved the ambiance of casual meets fine-food. Anyone would feel comfortable here... not pretentious! GREAT service too! :)"

  • "This was my third dining experience at Le Pigeon, and again was rewarded with unique flavor combinations, excellent technique, beautiful platings, and delicious wine pairings. What is fun is that one must expect the unexpected. Since the menu is always changing, there is no need to review specific dishes, except to emphasize that all of your senses will be engaged when you dine here. You will also be rewarded with excellent service from staff who really want you to have a wonderful dining experience. I come here as much to be intellectually stimulated as to just eat good food, and I am grateful to everyone who contributed to that stimulation."

  • "Service was excellent and good was unique and delicious!!"

  • "We had a great meal at Le Pigeon, during a honeymoon stopover in Portland. Very small space, but lots of character. Service was prompt, knowledgeable, professional. The only downside for us was the communal seating. We knew this was the arrangement coming in, but unfortunately had a loudmouth know-it-all next to us. It took away from the experience a bit, but certainly not the establishment's fault."

  • "The wife and I went here for our 4 year wedding anniversary. A majority of the seating is at a large communal table or the chefs table so be prepared to sit very close to other guests. If that's not your thing I would skip this spot. The major draw for me was the ability to order either a 5 or 7 course tasting. I went for the 5 course tasting menu and it was amazing. The star of the show was the duck confit! Melt in your mouth with a perfectly crisped skin. The wine pairing is available in standard or reserve options. I had the standard pairings and they were quite unique and for the most part tasty. The ones I didn't enjoy as much still paired well with the food which made them all enjoyable. All in all it was a delicious meal!"

  • "The reason the restaurant appears to be popular can't be because of the food. Other than being oversalted dishes were mostly tasteless and conatined flavorless unidentifiable ingredients. Obviously frozen berries on the soggy sambucca cake. Ridiculous presentation on the butter lettuce salad. The menu listed ingredients in each dish that were either absent or so poorly prepared or stored as to be un distinguishable. The small size and lack of tables are the reasons you can"t get a reservation. There are plenty of places in Portland with better food"

  • "Food was good but overpriced for what you actually received. For example, I got lamb pieces that were almost 50% fat with very little edible meat. The meat I did get was good but for how expensive the food is I'd better get some actual protein."

  • "The food, service, and atmosphere were all top-notch. However, my husband and I are not very find of communal dining so for us that was a negative. Overall, highly recommended. "

  • "I can't say enough about Le Pigeon. The tastes are bold and delicious. The food is creative but not silly or pretentious. We brought some friends who had not been there before and they were very impressed."

  • "When our region manager offered to take us out to dinner to celebrate our sales success and I was given the opportunity to select the restaurant, I chose Le Pigeon. It is one of those restaurants that is best enjoyed if someone else is picking up the check! We sat at a very cozy table of 8, our four and a family celebrating their daughter's recent Reed College graduation. We did it right, enjoying several starters including the famous and delicious fore gras. We all shared bites of what we ordered and everything was fantastic! Same for our table mates. BTW if you are a very large person you might want to try a different restaurant it is very tiny and they maximize their sitting by requiring the guests to squeeze in."
