A word from Le Perigord
Now celebrating its fiftieth anniversary under the ownership of Georges Briguet, since 1964 Le Périgord has offered classic French cuisine in an elegant setting in midtown Manhattan. Recently renovated, Le Périgord is a premier destination for French cuisine in New York. The New York Times calls it “a French restaurant the way French restaurants used to be,” complete with white tablecloths and exemplary service from wait staff in tuxedos.
Besides tableside service of Dover sole, duck à l’orange and rack of lamb, the traditional menu also includes such staples as individual beef Wellington, pike quenelles, coquilles St. Jacques and kidneys in mustard sauce. And don’t forget to leave room for the fabulous soufflés and the legendary “temptation trolley” of desserts, which always includes such timeless favorites as tarte Tatin, chocolate mousse and floating islands. The extensive, award-wining wine list includes a fine selection of old and recent vintages at sensible prices.

Lutece, Le Cirque, Le Cote Basque and countless others have come and gone, but Le Perigord lives on. Georges is the consummate host, the food is divine in its unwavering classicism, the wait staff is attentive but not intrusive, the floral arrangements are fresh and vibrant and the overall ambience a welcome throwback to more civilized times.   • "True french classics. Escargots, Beef Wellington, Sweetbreads, the menu has it all. No fusion here. I truly think its the last of its kind. the floating islands are to die for. Service A+ and not snobbish or stuffy I felt totally relaxed to ask anything I was not familiar with in the menu. They over heard it was my birthday week and complemented me with a Raspberry Tart with a B candle. Very sweet."

  • "I came here last week and was very impressed with the quality of food and service. The Prie Fixe menu is very reasonable at $68 and whereas I was more than satisfied and quite full, I didn't feel overwhelmed or bloated as I have before at some French establishments. The dover sole was one of the best I've ever had, and the dessert trolley was memorable, especially the fruit tart. "Veteran" servers always concern me, as sometimes they work past their prime, but that wasn't the case here, as everyone we had was very knowledgeable and professional. Le Perigord is a really wonderful gem."

  • "I cannot explain my joy in having dined at Le Perigord last week. I had an awful flight, and wanted to unwind with a bit of a splurge and a great bottle of wine. Le Perigord came through on all fronts, except for the fact that it wasn't outrageously priced. Given the quality of the food, I thought $68 for a 3 course prie fixe was very reasonable, especially since many of the high-end French restaurants charge upwards of $100 for less than or equal to the same meal. I could have spent the entire night fantasizing about the wine list, but I was very pleased with what the Sommelier recommended for me. All in all, it was a wonderful recommendation and a memorable night."

  • "Le Perigord's unusually non-fancified styling, and ambiance trapped in the late 1950's caught us by total surprise. Had we entered a nondescript doorway into a decade long left behind? From the shy and deferential waiter to the chrome cold foods trolley, to the 50 year old patron with the Jackie O coiff and suit, everything, and I mean everything couldn't possibly exist so untouched by the explosion of Manhattan hipness right outside the door. More curious than ever, we wondered, "could the food possibly be any good?" After all other than Jackie O we were the only other guests! Without hesitation, each course of our meal provided the freshest, most pure and nuanced french flavors that we have ever experienced in NYC. Absolutely divine."

  • "Perigord is a very fine restaurant. Escargot, Duck, Filet and House smoked salmon were all top shelf. A major problem was a sweetbred preparation which arrived overdone and not very good. However, the waiter, when notified, whisked it away and brought an escargot prepartation which was one of the best ever. Deserts were elegant, the service, impeccable and the ambience lovely and serene."

  • "We just went to Le Perigord this past Saturday evening. We were greeted warmly by the very nice owner. He made us feel immediately welcome. Our server was also very nice. We started with zucchini blossoms, which were delicious. Then we both had the Beef Wellington, which was just delicious. I had a chocolate soufflé for dessert, while my husband had a selection off the tempting dessert cart, a chocolate mousse cake, topped with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. Only downside of the restaurant is that they do not have a bar to sit at and have a drink before dinner. That would have been nice. Also, although the restaurant is lovely, it could use a little sprucing up. It looks a little dated. All in all, a lovely dining experience."

  • "Serene. Perfect. An ideal dinner. There are lots of things Le Perigord is not but what is has been and continues to be is wonderful classic French dining. It is not a bistro. It does not have outdoor dining. It does not have music. On Tuesday night it had the best frogs legs and soft shell crabs I have had in years. The proud founder and owner Georges Briquet explained that "we sauté them "naked" which means simply and without bread crumbs. They were memorable. My companion is a fan of Le Perigord's beef Wellington and was very happy with it. The dessert cart continues to be lavish but people ask for fewer tastes and smaller portions. Wine list remains strong. And where else in NYC do you get traditional full servings of espresso?"

Our first visit, but we were treated like we were important customers, given a very nice corner table, and served as though we were Important People. The food is impeccable old-style French cuisine with great care to each element of the meal. Waiters are inobtrusive but always around to help in every way. If you need to be studying your cell phone the whole time, this place will be wasted on you. It's like going on a ride in a beautiful limousine; just relax and enjoy it! We particularly recommend the beet and endive salad and the sweetbreads. The duck looks amazing -- we'll have that next time! It's the 50th anniversary of this wonderful restaurant. May it live for 50 more. "

  • "I had been to Le Perigord many times many years ago and had a hankering for the classic cuisine that they used to serve that is somewhat hard to find now. I also wanted to take my 30+ son to a place where his mother and I used to dine when he was and infant. While the decor was unchanged from what I remembered from many years ago, we were delighted with the menu, food and the service. I would recommend it for a foodie who wants to experience a classic French meal. "

It was celebrating its 50ith birthday (although in a different location), complete with the original menu from which you could order (as well as the current one). We had the three course prix fix dinner, having courses from both menus. The food was superb and the service exceptional. The deserts were to die for. We could not have had a better dining experience. All of this for $68/person. I would be tempted to return to New York just to return to Le Perigord. We will definitely return! Just don't know when"

  • "There was a time when New York City had several extraordinary French restaurants with extraordinary cuisine, superb wines and management who treated all customers with civility, grace and charm. Now there only is one. There are newcomers who have interesting cuisine. Also good wine lists. But the personal touch is absent or graceless. There is nothing left which compares. Come soon as La Caravelle, to mention only one of the old standards, was gone in a flash. We hope that Georges and his son, Christopher, will continue for fifty more years. Le Perigord is in a class of it's own. "

  • "Most people or restaurants have only a couple of attributes. Le Perigord has old world charm, tuxedo service, and fabulous food too. Initially, our thoughts on the restaurant location were questionable. The place is not chic nor trendy. There are a few couples, business people, and large families. It is also located between the UN and Sutton Place, not an evening destination. Don't be fooled! It is a hidden gem that has lasted through the test of time. George Briguet has led this restaurant for nearly 40 years and has mastered French cuisine. Even for Manhattan, you will be impressed with the sumptuous fillet mignon, Dover sole, duck, and pheasant.   • " I was trying to impress my girlfriend so I brought her here for our monthly date night, and she was blown away. That of course means, I was blown away too, lol. Unlike a lot of other places, they have an option of doing a prix fixe or ordering a la carte. We chose to order a la carte. everything was super good, but I must say, the lobster bisque and the veal medallions were remarkable. The bisque was a perfect consistency and so rich, but not so heavy that I didn’t want my entree. The veal medallions were tender and had that perfect veal game balance to them. "

  • "This was my second time dining here. I had the pike quenelles as an appetizer and veal with morel mushroom sauce as my entree. Both dishes were excellent. The server also brought me a few extras such as amuse bouche and mini dessert since I was too full to order a regular dessert. I ordered a glass of red Cote du Rhone to have with the veal but was offered a half-glass of a white wine to have with the fish appetizer. I turned it down and just had water with the first course but appreciated the offer. That shows a thoughtfulness that is not always demonstrated at a restaurant. This restaurant has a long history of gracious dining and caters to an older clientele but provides a relaxed and satisfying dining experience."
