Show what you love! A fun & frolic filled French Bistro in Greenwich, CT. Music, ambiance, fantastic bistro fare!!!!
See all photos >
Week night at one of two sidewalk
tables. No traffic, either foot or car. Exceptionally pleasant on a warm weekday evening. Food superb. Wine great (but need to add some big, bold California's in addition to the great French offerings....wines like BV Georges La Tour, BV Tapestry, Provenance Cab, Hewitt, and Rosenblum Reserve Zinfandels). The Town of Greenwich is hopeless in permitting restaurants to use their sidewalks (and rooftops). When the Town becomes more progressive then maybe Greenwich will take on a bit more of the look (and taste) of Paris and not be quite as stuffy (is that possible?)."

Wonderful bistro. Some new menu
items would be welcome."

Went there to celebrate a friends
birthday and had a great time! We were there on a Wednesday night and the place was hopping! Very good food and service. The salads were great and the chicken delicious. Definitely recommend Le Penguin for an enjoyable night out!"

We enjoyed our food, however the
place was crammed on a Tuesday evening and the noise level was ear deafening by 7 pm."
Dined on 7/15/2014
Between a family of 5 we chose
carpaccio of tuna to start, steak tartar, salad steak and truffle frites which were outstanding. We all agreed we would go back for the truffle frites alone! Also chocolate mouse and taste tatin were delicious. Great ambience with a mixture of age groups. We would all love to go back again."

We loved everything about Le
Penguin. The service was very attentive and the food was authentic French bistro. The mussels were the best we've every had and the pommes frites were perfectly thin and crunchy. We will definitely go back again and again."
Dined on 7/12/2014
The crispy red snapper lived up to
its name. The fish was slightly overcooked and dry. My wife had the "special-of-the-day" which was skate wing. The fish was over-salted. Overall I expected a better experience given that the price per person for 5 people was $72.00."

This restaurant offers very good
brasserie type food with creative enhancements. Waiters were efficient and plesant but should be trained to offer more professional service."
Dined on 7/7/2014
This restaurant met more than all
of my expectations a fantastic menu that was not overwhelming A friendly and accommodating staff that was more than helpful. My new favorite find.cant wait to go back."
Dined on 7/5/2014
Both food and ambiance were
wonderful. We had the lamb and the duck, as well as a special chocolate torte for dessert. Very well executed, and what we especially appreciate is not being rushed. We will definitely be back!"
Dined on 7/5/2014
We love this place. We keep
returning. I had the beef carpaccio this last visit. Scrumptious!"

Service was spectacular despite
the conflict with the US World cup match. Every bite of food was excellent."
Dined on 7/1/2014
Every course was outstanding.
Service was sincere and excellent. We will be back."

Great food - a good feel for being
in a French Bistro with lots of activity."
Dined on 6/26/2014
Highly recommend this place.
Delicious appetizers and entrees. Fun with a group."
Dined on 6/23/2014
The ambiance, location and buzz
was great. The wait staff and the owners are attentive and friendly. It is not a place for a quiet dinner. The bar and the open kitchen window can get pretty loud when it is busy. Lovely place to celebrate a special occasion."
Dined on 6/19/2014
I have been to Le Penguin many
times now and it has been a great experience every time. Service is good but not pushy, food is delicious and one or both of the owners has been there every time."
Dined on 6/17/2014
It's clearly a hot spot, but I
don't know why. The food was OK, but nothing to write home about. Far too much salt in the salad dressing, and the Codfish Nobu Style has no resemblance with anything they serve at Nobu's. So why do they pretend? It's supposed to be a French bistro, so let's stick to that. The place was well frequented for a Monday night which speaks for them. However, it was fairly noisy, and the noise level was even more elevated by frequent interludes of Stevie Wonder blasting his "Happy Birthday" from the sound system. So if you are looking for a nice quiet dinner with undisturbed conversations, this is not the place to go."

I was encouraged to try this
charming little eatery by my mom, a fellow foodie who needs to REALLY be impressed to gush about french fries and steak frites - she was right! The staff are incredibly polite, and prompt. The food is IMPECCABLE. Especially if you're looking for a little French spot...a little pricey for an everyday occurrence perhaps, but for the special occasion, or a really great spot for a nice brunch, it's fabulous. And while the food is "fancy," the decor and ambiance are cool and casual. You can go in jeans, and not feel like you're doing something wrong - a rarity in Greenwich! We will definitely be back - looking forward to the next round of local, delicious eats!"

If you like incredible, local,
farm fresh, natural food cooked with spectacular imagination, served with the perfect wine, and by impeccable French waiters who are fun, then eat at Le Penguine. If you don't, go to Taco Bell. This place is wonderful. On our left were two ladies past a certain age who were having a ball. In front of us were several tables of young adults who were laughing and eating well. Past them were some grumpy rich people from back country Greenwich, and even they were happy. Come, enjoy, have fun, and laugh whilst sipping extraordinary wines which accompany incredible food. The wild mushroom ravioli with sweet pea tendrils will cause a rebirth of your tongue. The floating island is a spiritual experience."

What a fantastic date night! We
received a warm welcome from the owner. He thoughtfully sat my husband and I are a booth for 4 so we could sit next to each other. The wine list is great and there are several tasty glasses by the glass. The escargot and scallops were spectacular. We love the energetic vibe at the restaurant. Every table was packed with customers having an amazing night."
Dined on 6/13/2014
The food and ambience are
overrated. Our food was lackluster: salade nicoise, omelette aux fines herbes, soupe aux tomates, le burger avec frites et une salade tricolore. Best option was the burger. Server was attentive and accommodating. Coffee was good, and I got the steamed milk I requested."

My husband and I love this place.
The food is delicious and the service is unbeatable."

A lovely meal -- Top notch food
and service! We are looking forward to a return visit."
Dined on 6/6/2014
The food was excellent. But the
noise level was horrific. The tables are set too close and it is very cramped. We had to shout to be heard at a table for 4. "

Not sure that it is totally fair
to rate a restaurant in Greenwich based on a Saturday night. That said the space is nominally charming but very tightly packed, this may be an effort to create a real Paris Bistro like atmosphere but it's not Paris, it's Greenwich; this is by far the most crammed in town. Service was efficient without personality as it is hard enough to hear yourself think much less what the service staff may be saying. Our food experience was less than extensive as my wife had steak tartar which she designated mediocre and I had mussels that were significantly past their prime so after having to spit out a few I gave up. They swept the remains away and we left. I hope others have had more pleasant experiences there."

In town for the car show, found
out this place online. Small, intimate space, it was quiet when we got there but once it filled up, it got a bit noisy. Tables very close together. Our waiter was very friendly (as was the whole staff), and the service was exceptional. Lot's of good things on the menu, I had some oysters and the Diver scallops and my wife had the hanger steak frites. The scallops were perfectly cooked, about as tasty as they could be. My wife's steak was a perfect rare. We were there early, so we didn't have to wait long for our meals. I highly recommend this place, especially for couples/small parties (leave the kiddies at home). "

Delightful, delicious. Ambiance is
everniceexceptwhen it iscompletelyfull and the noise level becomes too loud."

The food is amazing. I love the
little white paper bag filled with freshly sliced baguette. The Niçoise salad was delicious as well as the duck confit salad. Don't forget to order the Ile flotante. This is a very light dessert of square shaped meringue floating in creme anglaise."
Dined on 5/29/2014
Excellent French selections. Would
love to see some high-end California wines like BV tapestry, Sterling Three Palms Merlot, Hewitt, Provenance, and the Rosenblum Zinfandel Reserves. These would nicely round out the wine list and make it more apprioachable to those who want to venture from the French vineyards."
Dined on 5/26/2014
A wonderful surprise... didn't
know what to expect. Loved the energy, the menu and the food. Friendly host and hostess. Will return!"
Dined on 5/24/2014
excellent French food, especially
Poulet Couscous and Raviolis aux champignons, classy crowd and packed, a bit noisy"
Dined on 5/17/2014
The food was stellar, the service
was great, and the ambience was lovely (including the great music). I will definitely be back! "

Le Penguin has a buzz I have not
seen in a long time. We all enjoyed our appetizers and our entrees.. the tart tartine was yummy. Looking forward to trying lunch!"
Dined on 5/15/2014
we came at the end of the seating
so by the time we left, the place was emptying out and the atmosphere was better. Very lively place...nice place for a birthday....music especially for the occasion. "
Dined on 5/11/2014
Compact dining room, dim lighting,
with lively music. The hosts work the room hard with good cheer and a focus on regulars. The music gets turned up loud after 9 pm. The food is a solid rendition of bistro fare. It does not have the refinement of the old Jean Louis. Not recommended for kids. "
Dined on 5/10/2014
Le P is a terrific addition to the
Greenwich restaurant scene. So authentic, really feels like you're on vacation for a hour or two. Excellent food, service, great looking! I eat out every night as will return often for lunch and dinner."

We have had a half dozens dinner
at Le Penguin and all have been excellent. It it's a favorite of my wife and daughter and all we have recommended Le Penguin to have had a great experience. "
Dined on 5/6/2014
I'm almost reluctant to give the
place such a positive review as I don't want it to get too busy, but they deserve it, so here goes. Went late on Saturday and the place was still packed. It's small & noisy, but in a vibrant way, not to the extent you have to shout across your table at each other. It has none of the pretentions that you come across in some of the places in town - it has a welcoming local atmosphere, with very friendly owners who appear to be ever present. The food is fantastic - I've now seen a good cross section of the menu and everything has been of an extremely high standard - try the steak tartar. Definitely my default choice for now, but it has the character and quality to be a long runner in first position."

Eating at Le Penguin transports
you to a lovely bistro in Paris. Very charming, the food is delicious and the service is efficient and friendly."
