A word from Le Parisien
Le Parisien is the go-to neighborhood bistrot for Murray Hill, offering classic French food like steak frites, escargots and moules marinieres, paired with a well-edited list of french wines.
Chef Johnathan Masse brings his expert knowledge of comfort food, having most recently served as sous chef at the Waverly Inn, and also for Chef Jonathan Waxman of Barbuto. Along with owner Christian Merand, formerly of Jean-Claude in Soho, they have created a restaurant that focuses on serving consistently great traditional food with a lively and unmistakeably French atmosphere.

Also open daily for lunch and brunch on weekends.

Diner Reviews
  • "I was in town and met my niece here for dinner and wanted some time to visit before we ordered our entree and tried to order an appetizer first with our wine, but we were told that we had to order our entree at the same time. They were obviously trying to turn over tables, but a little too obvious! I ordered the salmon medium and it came out well done and dry."

  • "The ambience was cute, looked like a good date spot. The food was pretty solid, but doesn't really seem worth the price you pay."

  • "nice service, good food but not worth traveling to. Small venue somewhat shabby interior. Be prepared for small tables and hard chairs."

  • "I guess I expected a bit more for a place called Le Parisien. It didn't feel very French at all even though the food seemed alright. The escargots which I usually use to gauge a French place by were not even in the shells, they were just plopped on the plate alongside empty shells."

  • "I have been many times and always enjoy my meal. I especially like the chilled cucumber and melon soup. Perfect for summer. Thanks again."

  • "This is one of those perfect restaurant gems that those in the neighborhood try to keep a secret. It's small, the tables are close, the noise level a little high, but the food is delicious and the service excellent. I have never had anything but a great meal. I always feel like I've been transported to Paris when I walk through the door. Many French people eat there - no wonder I feel like I'm in Paris. The Steak Frite is delicious. The Calves Liver too. The fish selections are usually daily special, so always fresh. The wine selection is good & not overpriced. I have brought many friends to La Parisien and it instantly becomes their new favorite place. As I stated in my opening, a true gem."

  • "Le Parisien is a classic French Bistro, right out of a Collette novel. The food is consistently wonderful, the service is gracious. It is bustling, yet affords an intimate atmosphere. Merveilleux!"

  • "Love this place! On my most recent visit, our server was especially delightful - spoke French and English beautifully so my French friend was perfectly comfortable. Food quality is outstanding, portions generous but not overwhelmingly huge. Excellent value!! Wines were very nice, and when not ordering by the bottle, you receive a very generous pour by the glass. Menu offers a good varied selection of dishes such as you would find in a neighborhood resto in Paris, and at very reasonable prices. Love the atmosphere - because the restaurant is small, I do feel like I step into a little bit of France. Will continue to recommend to friends."

  • "I can't say enough about how much I enjoy my experience at La Parisien every time I go. Terrific intimate setting, friendly service, and most of all excellent dining. This time I had the carpaccio to start, the pork piccata for my entree and the "floating island" for dessert. All truly above the bar outstanding. Other great picks: both salad options, rainbow trout, salmon, steak frites and any dessert. Highly recommended!"

  • "very unassuming on the outside but inside is very warm feeling both for the ambience and food; feel like you are in Paris. An extra addition is that the food / wine is very good."

  • "We enjoyed the hustle and bustle atmosphere. Our servers (I think there was only 1 for the whole restaurant ) was right on and efficient. Noise level pretty high, but the place is tiny so this was to be expected. Will definitely return again when in NYC"

  • "We came for the moule frites and were not disappointed. It was a first time visit. Very small place with a cute French ambiance. We arrived early but it was clear they needed to turn over the table. With people waiting it was understandable. Would come back."

  • "I felt I was back in Paris at a neighborhood Bistro. I had steak tar-tar and it was prepared just right . My wife had pork and the sauce was lemon garlic sauce was superb! Overall, a very good dining experience."

  • "This is a true French restaurant. It's not just a French Bistrot. The food is authentic and absolutely delicious. "

  • "This is a small restaurant with a relatively limited menu. We found the duck pate, saffron cream mussels and the homemade pasta very good. The ambiance is modest but we enjoyed our meal."

  • "My husband and I went to Le Parisien on our first trip to NYC, and this time around, it was our first reservation to make. The food and service are excellent, and while we mostly come for the escargot, we are always delighted with our entire meal! I know that we will book a table each time we visit NYC!"

  • "Went here for dinner around 8:45pm on a Wednesday. The meal was amazing in every way and the wine was excellent as well. Tables are close as the space is very small but I would go back in a heartbeat! "

  • "We discovered this place by chance and it is the best restaurant we have been to in NYC... (We have been to NY 5 times now and eaten at some of NYs best places but this beats them all. Its only small so you must book if you do not want to miss out, and you do not want to miss this restaurant. The food is excellent, the service lovely and the ambience is just brilliant. We really felt like we were in Paris. It was a really great evening, I can't recommend this place high enough."

  • "Went there last night for the second time. There were three of us. We had 1 escargot app and one carpacio app. If snails are removed from shells as they were here why are they still presented? I had mussels in garlic butter sauce. The mussels were cooked to perfection but sauce had a bit too much herbs for my liking. Fries were worth every calorie. My husband had the skate and it was delicious. The third person had calf's liver and she said it was very good. We had one bottle of wine and each had a cup of American coffee. The total with tip was $155. I will go back again!"

  • "This place was so cute...the owner of the restaurant was very friendly, and he and his servers even spoke in French. I felt like I was in a little bistro in Paris. Wonderful gem amidst the concrete area of midtown."

  • "i've been coming here for the last few years. a huge fan of their mussels and steak frites! i always end up spooning up the leftover mussel broth because it is that good. (my fave is the parisienne with the mustard saffrom broth). the duck is really really good too. you can't go wrong on any of the dishes here and the service is pretty good. the place is cozy and tables are close to each other but it feels like one of those french bistros in paris. love it and not a bad price-- i believe like $25 for a hefty portion of steak frites that is super tender and flavorful"

  • "I took my wife and son to Le Parisien for Mother's day as we didn't want the noise and hassle associated with crowded, noisy NYC restaurants...one French word sums it up, "Formidable". Truly amazing French cuisine, with a very comfortable feel. Very personal and friendly service. I felt as if I were dining in my friend's house in Paris. The food was amazing, the wine fantastic, and the ambience terrific. We will be back for sure. Truly a gem of a find! Merci pour tout! "

  • "For my French fix which I need very often it is my go to place--the food is lovely and the service very French! I had the rainbow trout with lentils and it was divine--I also loved the wine the waiter suggested and everyone spoke French which j'adore! A bientot!"

  • "Small (12 tables)in size but big on authentic French flavor, food and ambience. Friendly staff, a nice menu, good but not over whelming wine list, and above all a great value."

  • "We ate at Le Parisien twice during our visit to NYC. We have been to many French bistros in various cities in Europe and North America. This one is the best. The mussels were plump and the garlic and white wine sauce was out of this world. Compared to other restaurants, the wines are reasonably priced. Highly recommended."

  • "The food was perfect, the staff were friendly, and the price was excellent. I started with a glass of Rhône which was refreshing and not overly fruity. The escargot was lightly seasoned and had the perfect amount of rubbery texture I was looking for. I followed that with a nice Chardonnay and the well-seasoned, striped bass, which was a great pairing. The bass was perfectly cooked, with crispy skin and soft, flakey meat. The crème brûlée had a wonderful crunchy top and cool, creamy center. The macchiato was an actual macchiato, not the latté typically served in the US when you ask for a macchiato. The host and my waiter were wonderful, talkative but not chatty, and very helpful with questions about the food. All of that for $72. "

  • "Tiny hole in the wall of a restaurant with a strong menu and solid wine list. Mussels selection is very creative (terrific mustard sauce!), well dressed salads and incredibly tasty fish. We skipped the dessert but would definitely return again for a bite. Service was just the right amount of attentive and timely."

  • "A small authentic French restaurant. The menu was short enough to be good, but with plenty of options. There were several things I'd like to go back to try. Nice wine list with very reasonable prices. The food came quickly and the service/atmosphere was very pleasant. I am definitely going back with my husband, another couple, or small group of friends."

  • "Returned to Le Parisien on Monday night for another wonderful meal. This tiny restaurant in Murray Hill is warm, cozy and consistently good. Wine list is short but adequate and well paired with the food. Le Parisien is like what you would find in a small town in the french countryside and the locals that frequent it make is clear that it is highly thought of. I will be back soon (hopefully)."

  • "Le Parisien serves good French food at reasonable prices in a small space that reminds you of a little hole in the wall in Paris. It's not white-tablecloth snobby French. It's Paris bistro French. Relaxed, comfortable, and pleasant. I didn't find the.food.perfect, but it was good. The service was ok, but not the best. The tables are tightly packed into a small space. But the price is right and for.a casual dinner, Le Parisien works well."
