Diner Reviews
  • "Loved the decor and the service. The food was very tasty too, and moderately priced. Dining early with company avoids the necessity to compete for air space (volume still low), and provides great selection of tables. Background music was at a good volume; however, when dining ethnic, particularly French or Italian, I would prefer to hear music in the language of the food being served. Overall, a great experience, and it will stay on my list of destinations for future dining out. Nous vous remercions bien pour une bonne soirée !"

  • "We ve been going to Le Parisien for some time now. We love it!!! When we tell other s about it they often say We went there it was awful! We say when did you last go and it was more than 2 years ago. Well guess what folks, new owners and new staff for the last 18 months!! It is fantastic! The food is prepared to order and we love everything on the menu, The Beef Bourguignon is delicious! The pork belly salad is my favorite thing on the menu! The butter lettuce salad, Mimosa, light and delicate. The Cassoulet when on the menu is the best in the city. It s not pretentious French food by any means, it is true bistro fare, rooted in Frances' love of its beloved peasant dishes into truly remarkable gems! French servers imagine that!"

  • "We decided to try a few things for the whole table for appies. Mac & cheese was oh so cheesey and delicious. Pomme frites - yum! Fried brussel sprouts were interesting (and delicious) done with nuts. Our friends had the French Onion soup and said it was really excellent. I had the spinach and mushroom ravioli for dinner and I found it to be tasty. My partner and other friend had steak frites and found the sauces and stilton butter to be delicious. The other person had the beef bourgignon and loved it. Our server was delightful! He provided attentive service and we loved his Paris French accent. He cajoled us into dessert. We had the Mille Feuille. OMG - Layers of pastry with the most heavenly vanilla cream and raspberries in between."

  • "Le Parisien was just ok. Middle of the road. Nothing particularly bad about the food, nothing particularly exciting about it either. Wine list was quite small and unimaginative for a French restaurant. For the price point I would likely go somewhere else."

  • "le parisien has excellent, friendly service and atmosphere. food was very tasty and staff were very accommodating with our dinner party having an infant in a strolller. only criticism I would have is the price is a bit steeper than expected. open table rates it as $$, but i think it should be a $$$ or $$$$. thank you le parisien!"

  • "We visited Le Parisien this past Saturday (March 8) and were treated to a delicious dinner. My wife and I ordered the mussels to begin and they were cooked perfectly and very tasty...perfect amount of sauce and balanced flavours. For our mains, we had the Roasted Duck Breast and the Steak Frites (striploin), both were done perfectly and I must say the steak was the best I've had in Vancouver. The frites were also amazing, crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside (again best I've had in Vancouver). Lastly, we had some delicious tasting desserts, a vanilla mille-feuille and a hazelnut creme de brule. Both were very flavourful, and at this point really filling. Although the creme de brule was runny, it tasted like heaven."

  • "This is the best stop on the way to the opera. Small menu perfectly prepared. The Steak tartar is as good as it gets. The duck best was perfectly cooked. This is our third visit to this restaurant but not the least. Jan"

  • "While the service was good, it took to long to get the food. The waiter apologized and took some soda off the bill but it was still too long."

  • "My friend and I have been on a quest to find the best bistro-style steak-frites in Vancouver. So far Le Parisien is the hands-down winner. The steak was done beautifully, the frites were double-fried (as they should be), hot and super crispy. The endive & blue cheese salad to start was perfect and the traditional lemon tart finished the meal off in just the right way. Our waiter (the manger of the the restaurant) was exactly right. Attentive but no hovering and willing to answer our questions and provide recommendations. We will continue our quest ... but we'll definitely be back to this lovely spot."

  • "Realy dis-appointed .............. Being a Franch restaurant the food supose to be good . Not at all . It just like a normal restuarant"

  • "We have been here several times for lunch with our four children ranging in age from 2 to 12. Delcious food, smooth service and a quick getaway ability have made these meals extremely successful. Dinner (without the kids) enjoyable as well. Traditional French style food is well prepared and served; a bit of a tricky area for parking but there are several spots in the lane and more which free up after 6pm. Overall I would highly recommend this restaurant which has seen several changes in ownership and I think the current group are doing a superlative job."

  • "Appetizers taste okay and lack appeal to it due to the plating. Entrees are delicious but again it needs improvement in plating."

  • "dine out menu is not that worthy, especially the starter calamari and the dessert wine pear , very not recommended maybe I should try the regular menu next time"

  • "My entire group was REALLY disappointed with the food. It certainly is not up to par for a French Restaurant, let alone one in the West End. The poached pear was ice cold, the creme brulee was burnt, the butternut squash soup was runny and the steak frites was something that you can find in a pub bar. The staff was great, but the food left a lot to be desired."

  • "When my boyfriend and I walked in, we were surprised by all the empty tables. Our server was really nice - he smiled a lot (too bad I forgot his name). The food was SO GOOD. We had ordered from both the 38 and the 28 menus. It was worth the money. :D We had a great date thanks to the restaurant."

  • "Actually, I don't think the price for dine out is worth it. The mean items are quiet cheap to me. Not to mentioned my mom order a soup as her main dish.. the clams was not fresh..."

  • "The place looked excellent; it was designed to look like a little French diner. The service was good as the waiter made sure to check on us once in a while and made sure we have beverages and was there when we're ready to order. Food was okay. Did the dineout Vancouver three-course meal. They ran out of Beef Bourguignon so we went with the duck (which seemed over prepared and was not the melt in you mouth kind), and the steak and frites. The server did not ask us how we wanted the steak, so when it came it was done medium (perhaps there was only one kind with French dishes? Not sure.) This is our first French dining experience so we were a little disappointed. The beauty about Vancouver is that you'll never run out of places to eat!"

  • "I was here for Dine Out 2013 and ordered from the $38 menu, Tuna tartare for appetizer, beef bourguignon for entree, and the poached pear for dessert. The tuna tartare tasted amazing! The seasonings and the flavors were spot on. It also came with a little side salad which was nice. The beef bourguignon was good too. It had a decent amount of beef and it was very tender. Under the beef was a bed of mashed potatoes and the gravy like sauce. My only complaint was that it was just a little bit under seasoned, but that might just be my heavy taste. The dessert was nice and sweet but not overpoweringly sweet. In my opinion, the pear could have been a little bit more tender, but again that's just my personal preference. Overall a great dining exp."

  • "The calamari was barely warm, and the portion size was very skimpy. My gf's butternut squash soup was very runny, and had a strange sour aftertaste. She had a few spoons, and left the majority unfinished. For her duck confit main, it was very salty. Compared to a recent duck confit she had at another restaurant that she kept raving about, this was a disappointment. My seafood bouillabaisse was very mediocre. We both thought we could make a better one ourselves She enjoyed her pear dessert. My creme brulee was another let down. Not sure how you can mess up creme brulee... i couldn't taste or see any vanilla in it, and the caramelized crust was way too thick."

  • "I was pretty unhappy about the food I received, came for the dineout 2014. The appetizers were alright but nothing to die over, the calamari was pretty good but nothing to run here for, and the soup my friend got was pretty thin and just a bit sad. The mains, we were, very, extremely disappointed with. I had the bouillabaisse and my friend got the duck... hers came out lukewarm and mine was so bland. I've had bouillabaisse before and it's been totally awesome and full of flavour but yeah the one I had here was a pretty sad excuse not to mention there wasn't much in it. Probably the best part of the whole meal were the desserts and they were pretty good. I would not recommend or go back based on the sorry state of our entrees and appys."

  • "My wife and I had the $28 dineout menu and found the food outstanding, well worth the price. We shared each of dishes and enjoyed them all. Appetizer: lentil salad was light and aromatic with great flavor Appetizer: butternut squash soup was more of a squash broth, again great flavor Entree: duck confit was a little overcooked, but the duck sauce was rich and outstanding Entree: bouillabaisse had a good sampling of seafood, and the broth was superb, very flavorful Dessert: creme brulee was light and tasty, but not exceptional Dessert: chocolate mousse was very light, slightly bitter and not very sweet, loved it"

  • "Yes, I would return to this bistro. We had to wait thirty-five minutes even though we made reservations but it was after all "Dine out Vancouver", expected to wait. Over all our meal was very tasty, I had the duck confit, just could not get enough of it. Quite enjoyed the choice of wine that was pared with my meal as well , only thing, my wine came late and there wasn't a whole lot of the brussel spouts on my plate, one mouthful to be exact. Next time I'd go for the full dinner menu."

  • "I went to Le Parisien with my friend to celebrate our birthdays in January. We have never tried this restaurant and thought it would be nice to give them a try since they are part of Dineout this year. We ordered the same Appetizer, the Crispy Calamari which we did not like too much. It tasted like rings of flour without calamari. We had Classic Bouillabaisse for main course which is quite delicious to me, but my friend complained about they didn't remove the outer part of the mussels (the black skin attached to it). The dessert were fantastic. I loved my Classic Crème Brulée which is really creamy and rich. She also loved her Red Wine Poached Pear for the dessert. Overall it was a good dining experience."

  • "Went during DineoutVancouver 2014. Tried the $28.00 menu. Each course was excellent. I have not had calamari so well cooked, it almost melted in your mouth. The lentil salad was also excellent, the mustard sauce did not overpower, but complimented the lentils subtle flavour. The Duck confit was also very good. The creme brule was also one of the best i have had. very rich and creamy but not too heavy. We will go back. All the serving staff was very nice, polite and fast and efficient."

  • "First off, the service was amazing!!! The servers there were extremely friendly and knowledgeable and I have absolutely no complaint against them. I came here for dineout 2014 and was a bit disappointed. You could tell the food was made in a rush and that they were serving large quantities of it. The calamari was decent, but the duck was lukewarm at best and very bland. The chocolate mousse wasnt anything extraordinary and very standard. Overall not sure I'd return for the food."

  • "Came here for DineOut/my birthday and ordered the calamari appy and the duck confit main. Calamari was nothing spectacular but ok, maybe it was not their specialty, so I can overlook that. However, how can a French restaurant mess up duck confit? Isn't that like a staple? Anyway, I found it a bit on the dry side and quite salty. My husband had the tuna tartare, which he loved, but the ling cod was only so-so. At least the host was cute! Probably won't be back anytime soon"

  • "We've been meaning to try Parisien for some time. Dine Out Vancouver provided an opportunity. The food was good and with slight adjustments could have been great. Most dishes were a bit salty and my "medium rare" flank steak was closer to "medium well". Service was attentive without making us feel rushed. The restaurant was busy with everyone enjoying themselves- a positive vibe. We'll be back and eager to try brunch."

  • "The 3 course Dineout menu we had was good - calamari, steak frites, crime brûlée, but the drinks were very expensive. A martini @ $14 and non-alcoholic beer @ $6.50."

  • "me and my wife was there for the dine out vancouver menu, first of all they let someone who lined up behind us, have a reservation later than us, sit first at the windows sit. the food was soso, the beef flank was quite hard and the duck was just average at most. our server never looked at me when she checked on us on the food, and she stepped on my foot without appology as well. over all very dissapointed."

  • "They offered two menus, $28 and $28. My son enjoyed the $28 menu - calamari was very light crispy, the Classic Bouillabaisse was flavourful and the creme brulee caramelized sugar made the perfect crack. I had their $38 menu choices, Tuna tartar which was perfectly seasoned, the Beef Bourguignon flavour was full of depth, the only critic was that the beef was a little tough and the Red Wine Poached Pear, Lady Fingers was perfectly soft and sweetened just right. Our server was excellent as well as the host/perhaps manager. He came around and asked how our dinner was while we were having our main course. It was very busy so for him to come around to ask was very good of him. Will definitely come again."

  • "The ambience was great...but unfortunately the food was either way too salty or bland. When we told our honest opinion to the manager that the duck confit was a bit salty, he was very defensive and told us that duck confit is suppose to be that salty. The dessert was great though!"

  • "If you can't go to Paris and would like to, eat here. It is a very good copy of the ambiance and character you would find in some Parisien hideaways. It is a Westend gem in my opinion. The staff was lovely, the food was simple yet very tasty. I will definitely go there again, although I will wait for summer, as I can only imagine how lovely it would be to eat there on a beautiful summer night."
