Diner Reviews
  • "Good and service were excellent, but two disappointments were: the special (we had a 7:15 seating and one of the specials was already sold out) and the wine (again the special offer wine was sold out). The area we sat in ( the main indoor portion ) was quite noisy and it made it tough to carry on a conversation. Though I'm finding it harder in most places so you might not be bothered by it."

  • "We had dinner on Saturday night to celebrate our anniversary. I had asked for a quiet spot when I made the reservation online. We arrived on time and had to wait just a few minutes for a table. I was so pleased because we were put in an alcove with just a few other tables. Someone immediately asked to hang up our coats for us and within a few minutes we had our drink order taken. The waiter was attentive to us throughout the meal. And we had no difficulty having a conversation with our friends. We all had different entrees which were equally good. Will definitely go here again."

  • "First time at this restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff all top notch. Friendly considerate good senses of humor which I value. The space is easy to hang out in and looking forward to experiencing it in summer when view out windows greener! The food was fine although I would like to try crepes next. Felt the non-crepe meals were heavy on tomatoes, olives and red peppers which smothered the flavour of meats. A definite must: the pate starter!"

  • "I was missing the wine and culinary delights for Paris. Le Papillon on the Park didn't disappoint!! Service was excellent (much better than Paris actually). Great French wine. The seafood crepe EASILY beat any of the crepes I had in Paris!!! VERY impressive."

  • "I ate here for lunch and had to come back for dinner. Wonderful food, and a lovely, relaxed atmosphere. The space is bright and airy with lots of windows overlooking the park and cosy fireplaces which were lovely in the evening. Staff were very friendly and efficient. The crepes are great and the frites were amazing. My son had a steak and declared it wonderful. We also tried several salads and all were delicious and fresh. And if you want to try the best dessert in the world, go for the Pudding Chômeur... you won't regret it. Easy to park, and easy to find. We will definitely be coming back!"

  • "Menu and food taste remind you of many of the Montreal restaurants which many of the "French" restaurants in Toronto haven't been able to achieve."

  • "I have been a long time patron of Le Papillon on the Park, and it never disappoints! The wait staff are excellent, the food is superb, and the ambiance is charming. Consistent, as always, serving Quebecois food at it's best!"

  • "Don't bother wasting your time with a reservation days before, you will still get the extra table by the broom closet. And if you bring it to their attention, the rest of the restaurant is fully booked. Yet, if you decide to stick around, check out the numerous empty tables that sit there the rest of the evening. Perhaps everyone cancelled?"

  • "Le Papillon began serving cheese fondue as a special menu item in February and it proved so popular that they continued it for March as well. A friend and I went on a Sunday evening near the end of March to try it and we were not disappointed. We ordered the "large" version, intended to be shared by 2. It comes with cubes of fresh baguette and tiny pickles. We also ordered the kirsch with it (added to the fondue by the waiter at the table) and some apple slices. Absolutely delicious and such a treat, as real cheese fondue is hard to find in Toronto. To start, my friend had the raw beet and quinoa salad (also delicious) and I had the soup of the day....a beef goulash soup....not so good. We love this restaurant and will be back often."

  • "A really nice spot. We went for brunch for the Cabane a Sucre - the Maple Sugar Shack, and everything was great! The atmosphere was very inviting with the smell of real wood burning fireplaces to greet you. The staff were very helpful and attentive, and lots of families were there for brunch as well - brunch is a family thing after all! We really enjoyed it and look forward to going for dinner soon."

  • "In business for over 40 years and it shows. The food here is delicious. Great to see a truly Canadian experience. Many authentic dishes from Quebec versus the downtown location which is more Parisian. The pouding Chomeur is awesome as are the short ribs, seafood crepe, etc."

  • "The food was excellent and I was so pleased to see the GF (gluten-free) indicator beside some of the dishes. I enjoyed the beef ribs and my husband enjoyed his onion soup and then a salmon entrée. The fireplaces were appreciated on that cold evening even though we weren't seated close to one. All of the staff were helpful and courteous. The only unpleasant aspect was a very large group of noisy young people who were having a reception and meal near our table. If we had known this group would be present we would have booked for another night."

  • "We went to celebrate Valentine's Day and expected the restaurant to be full with a dip in their usual quality. We were very happily amazed how superb the food was on such a crazy night. We ordered our favourites - Crepe Jacqueline and Steak Au Poivre - and we both felt it was one of the best we've had yet. Great job! We even decided to try their take home options. Since we didn't order the French Onion Soup, we decided to take it home for the next day. What a great treat!"

  • "Really nice ambience. We went on Valentine's Day so very busy. However our server delivered our meals and did not return to check on how they were. My meal was luke warm and when I mentioned it to him when he returned 20 mins later he did not apologize nor offer any explanation."

  • "We visited the location on Valentine's Day for our dinner. Obviously the location was busy and for the most part, the wait staff did a good job handling all of the tables. But, we did find that as the evening progressed, our waiter became less and less attentive of our table. Again, we know it was a unique night, but there were very long periods between table visits. As for the food, terrific all around. The French Onion Soup lived up to its billing, while the rabbit was excellent, with a generous portion size, more than I expected, which was a nice treat. Overall a very good dining experience!"

  • "We had the opportunity to visit a favorite spot of ours for Valentines Day dinner at Le Papillon in the Beach. We chose it for several reasons - excellent food, relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, close to home and not overly pricey. What a delight to discover their Valentines Day special menu! Although we would have been happy to order from their regular menu, we both decided to choose selections from the Valentines menu, all items specially prepared ... and we were over-the-moon with the uniqueness of the menu, the quality of the food and its presentation. A++ to the chefs ... and a promise to return as soon as possible!"

  • "first time to this restaurant after wanting to try it for a long time. It was a busy, busy night for Valentine's. The service was very friendly and helpful, but the kitchen had a little bit of trouble keeping up with crowd. My lobster app was amazing, but my halibut entree was very salty…not terrible but salty. I don't want to completely judge this place on the Valentine's, so I would definitely like to go back and try it on a quieter night. Really would like to try the new fondue."

  • "A beautifully decorated, very comfortable, and exquisitely pleasant restaurant. The special valentine's day dinner menu offered a mouthwatering selection of dishes, of which we chose chili chocolate venison and duck confit. The wine list made choosing a pairing quite difficult, but the waitress made a fantastic recommendation. And the desserts... Absolutely delicious. Being French-Canadian, my standards for the food were high, and yet they managed to surpass my expectations. Fantastic food, service, and ambiance. Though expensive, the prices are a bargain when compared to the quality of the food."

  • "Love it. I'm not the foodie in the family but I loved it. I will definitely go back. Only down side is the wait staff kept putting logs in the fire which made it very hot in the dining area."

  • "My husband and I were there for Valentines day dinner and was so satisfied with their original menu. We had the bacon, apple, with the cheese Crepe with maple syrup for dinner. The crepe was so crisp and the flavour was out of this world. It was a perfect combination of sweet, salty, and sour in one dish. We were also impressed with the goat cheese, walnut with bacon and veal gravy pontine. A very unique combination of flavors that worked well and blew the well known Montreal poutine out of the competition. We agreed that the crab cakes needed a bit of help - was a bit fishy and the halibut (which was on the V-day menu) was just mundane. Word of advise. Stick with the original menu items for your main dishes, the poutine is a must try."

  • "This restaurant is a neighborhood gem; the food was delicious. We had the Pâté Trio, which was a great portion to share; each pâté had a very distinct taste that was enjoyable. We had for main the Venison and the Lamb Shank, and the meats were well seasoned and cooked to perfection! The contour paired very well with each meat and really tasty. We had Sangienovese to go with the mains. And to finish our meal, we had a crepe au chocolat which needless to say was decadent. A great experience :) our waitress also spoke French, which I found fantastic b/c I love practicing the language specially when the restaurant is French cuisine."

  • "The place was already near capacity when we arrived for our 6:30 PM reservation -- a good sign for a restaurant that deserves to be busy all the time! Papillon has recently changed the dinner menu and have discontinued the wonderful Duck Magret. Greg and I ordered a new addition, Beef Short Ribs and Harold ordered the Lamb Shank. All three meals were outstanding. I raved that the Short Ribs were the best meal I had ever experienced at Papillon, and I have eaten there quit often. I made a point of telling Mme Bigué and she also explained that the disappearance of the Duck Magret was due to Nanny-type City rules whereby rare duck can no longer served in Toronto's restaurants. She rightly took it off the menu refusing to serve well done duck."

  • "The food is great, and there was a nice view of the park. Service was attentive, and the wait staff knew the menu which was nice. However, the open room is really loud. Sound bounces off the walls, and the music was louder than necessary. The restaurant is trying to be all things to all people, and as a result it falls just a little bit short. Are they trying to be fine dining? Family? Hip and urban? Management should make up their minds what their focus should be. Also, I was eating there with another adult and was treated to a lot of out of control kids. I know it's the area, but I was paying for a higher end experience. I expect to listen to noisy kids in somewhere like the Swiss Chalet, but not in a white napkin place."
