I had the lamb which was slightly
overcooked, the garlic mashed potatoes had no garlic (or at least I couldn't taste it); my salad was very lightly dressed. Other food was under seasoned. If this improves, I'd be happy to come back."

We were seated promptly given we
had reservation. Was the worst table in restaurant between front door and bar. When we asked to be moved and were willing to wait. Without giving it a second thought, hostess said had no other tables. After repeating we were happy to wait, server said doesn't matter, they had other reservations. I said, shouldn't be a problem, you can give them our table. After a moment, she said they specifically requested the table. I said ALL of your later reservations specifically requested their tables? After a pause, Yes, was the answer. It was clear, she didn't care. So we left. Perhaps its success is getting to it. Too many good restaurants to tolerate such apathy. We'll never go again."

Had another pleasant experience
dining at La Papagayo - this is my third visit. The appetizer of bread and pesto is fantastic, one of the best bread starters I have ever had. Overall a fantastic experience."

The menu sounded so great online
but the food was very mediocre. The service was equally disappointing. We constantly had to ask after our food, then sent it back, we had to keep asking for more water, utensils, and they delivered a birthday cake to the wrong table. I would not return nor recommend this restaurant."

Was welcomed immediately. Food was
great. We ordered lobster bisque, fish tacos, Kobe sliders, bouillabaisse, and creme brûlée. Only disappointment was creme brûlée and glass of Cabernet which had a fermented prune taste about it. Stick to beer or sangria. Music nightly and doesn't disappoint. Our server was very attentive and sat outdoors near heaters. Fun end to date night."

What a find, not only fun people
and great jazz music, but the food was crazy good. I had hawaiian pork described as cooked Laua style...I thought of when I ate some in Hawaii and thought could they possibly compare.....EXACTLY the same...as if cooked underground. Run, don't walk to this gem of a restaurant, you will not be dissappointed."

Went on a Tuesday evening. Happy
hour prices all evening. Very lively place with good food. Gets very loud inside especially with the music playing. Sitting outside is great. Wonderful sangria."

Best mussels in north county and
all seafood items are fresh and well prepared. Nice outdoor patio my wife and I like a lot. It is quiet. We can sit next to each other and somehow the atmosphere is conducive to people between tables chatting and being friendly. Excellent kitchen, imaginiative menu and reasonable prices. The casualness is actually very romantic and we always see a wide range of ages enjoying their dinners. It is small and I always fear that I may be shutting myself out by making it too popular."

My wife and I had dinner here. The
only negatives were that service was a little slow and that it was really loud due to the acoustics which amplified conversations. We loved the oil, pesto, and baguette combo. We highly recommend the seafood medley (Le Papagayo Dynamo?). My wife had the vegetarian paella which had too much vinegar (I lived in Spain for half a year, so I'm biased). My chicken satay was on point. The live guitarist covered Led Zep, so huge bonus points there. Overall, we had a nice romantic experience."

love this place for the
appetizers, flatbread with brie, mussels etc. Remembered a more eclectic wine list, not too much on the white wine side. Music is always great, can get a little loud when you are sitting close or in the dining room to the right."

We loved everything about Le
Papagayo. Shannon our waitress was excellent. I told them in advance that it was our friend's birthday and they provide a dessert surprise for us. We get to Leucadia a few times a year and will make sure we eat here again."

The food was good except the
truffled mac and cheese was very blah. (Stouffer's is better) the Calamari was delish-( a bit spicy for my family) different than most of the calamari around town ( I have been eating my through Encinitas's calamari offerings! So far- Beachside is #1, but Le Pap is definitely in 2nd place) The music is good, but there is loads of outdoor seating that isn't right under the band so you can enjoy it while still conversing with your guests. I think the entrees were pricey for the location, but there were lots of ways around it. We will definitely be back. the server and the busboy were charming without being cloying. Attentive without hovering. Engaging without being intrusive."

We sat at a long, counter-height
table, good for groups. Inside there was some mediocre live music, so it was nice to be further away from that. The caprese appetizer received did not match the description in the menu, but it was good, though a small portion. My salmon was cooked well, the sauce was light, nothing was oily. I was a disappointed that the veggies consisted of exactly 3 string beans. My husband's vegetarian paella with grilled chicken on top was delicious with veggies galore. The dichotomous part of the restaurant is due to the service. It seemed like everyone was a trainee. It was sort of charming, but could be annoying if you are expecting a more impressive dinning experience."

We enjoyed dinner off the Happy
Hour menu! Lots of tasty choices (we unofficially split; the split charge is just 1.00 for appetizers if you're fussy) so we'll have to return to try the ones we didn't get to. Duck confit tacos were amazing! Loved the salads; I could add a protein and be happy for dinner. The dinner menu looked amazing, but we were "on the cheap" but very pleased."

2 1/2 years ago my husband and I
had our first date here, so it's one of our favorite spots! The food is amazing! Great ambiance! This year we celebrated my birthday there with 15 of our closest friends and we were equally pleased! The gal who waited on us was great, our food came out in a timely manner (despite the size of our group) and we found out it was happy hour all night on Tuesdays! There's also a band and great music with people dancing. So really vibrant and fun! We had a blast! (the other nights are not loud like Tuesday nights if you're considering taking a date...good vibes there obviously cause it worked for me and my husband :)"

Inside was lively with music and
noisy, but the outside patio was heated and quiet, which is where you will find us next time. Great for kids. The food was fantastic and way beyond our expectations and our server took great care of us. My wife had bouillabaisse and raved about it I had the pineapple pulled pork, which was very tender, juicy and flavorful. The bread and pesto dipping sauce to start was a hit with my children. My 9 yo daughter had almost 2 full orders of the Shanghai ribs herself and my son had the chicken satays. The desserts were delicious (Key lime mousse, fried banana bites and lava cake) and the big cotton candy ball with a candle for my birthday was memorable for my daughter who now wants to have her birthday here."

Love this place. Normally we are
lucky and get a table in the back, where the music is heard but not overly loud like this time in the front of the restaurant. But the food is wonderful. Everybody loved the flatbread, the crab cakes and for the mussels - they now have three different kinds - we needed extra bread and spoons, the broth is that great. Huge selection on very interesting wines. Will definitely go there again and try out the outdoor seating when it's a little warmer."

this restaurant is not in
Encinitas, it's in Leucadia so we wasted 10 mniutes trying to find it and had to call the restaurant to find out how to get to it. We had a reservation but the place was in chaos when we arrived and we waited at least 7 minutes to be even acknowledged as having arrived. It was not encouraging that while we were standing around the table nearest to where we were standing sent back there food becasue it was cold. We did eventually get a table on the front patio in hope of it being less noisy and it was okay. But trhe food was no more than okay and was poor value for money."

This was our second visit to
Papagayo, and I already can't wait to go back. Everything was amazing, from the sangria to the dessert, and though our server had many tables, she still provided excellent service. The food is amazing here, so fresh and beautifully presented. The only problem is deciding what to order, and the small plates are excellent in that regard. You can try all sorts of things. I can't wait to go back for brunch!"
