A word from Le Mistral
Le Mistral Restaurant has carved a niche for itself on the West side of Houston with some of the finest French cuisine the greater Houston area has to offer. While customers may detect a hint of Provençal flair on the menu, authentically derived from Chef and Owner, David Denis’ background, Le Mistral clearly represents all regions of France. Le Mistral has transformed from a single dining room into a fine-dining establishment, with many offerings to suit individual diners’ tastes and needs. Le Mistral’s offerings now boast an upscale bar with flat screen television; wine cellar off the main dining area that seats up to 10; a chef’s table in the kitchen for those with impeccable taste who would like a completely individualized meal; banquet room for special occasions and business functions; and soon-to-be specialty foods store, called Foody’s Gourmet, which will offer Le Mistral signature items, French specialt.

The decor is a mix of inviting modern color and french renaissance. We saw more service and wait staff keeping the customers attended to than we have seen at most Houston restaurants. Part owner Sylvan Denis made it a point to talk to and welcome all the customers. The bread was soft, warm and very comforting with ample butter available. We had escargot which was deliciously rich and buttery followed by mushroom soup which was to die for - just scrumptious. Our main course was a split of the sea bass special which came out in a beautiful presentation of main course with side and sauces artfully decorating the plate. The sea bass was the perfect moisture and the sauces were to die for. Great meal!

Service was attentive, but friendly. Food was fantastic and it was hard to decide what to choose. The appetizer sampler of fois gras, lobster risotto, arugula Salad and ahi tuna tartar was a perfect tasting to share between 2 people. For dinner had the special of sea bass in tomato cream sauce on spinach gnocchi. Both my dining partner and I had the same dish and very much enjoyed it. For dessert, the chocolate soufflé was also delicious and rich, but worth the extra wait. All in all, a very good evening.

I have now dined at Le Mistral around ten times and upto now this was my most disapointing experience.I still love the restaurant and think that it is one of the best in Houston but I guess every place can have its weaker nights.Table was 40 minutes late than we reserved. We were unlucky with the position of the table and the good white burgundy which I ordered was not a good bottle-not bad enough to be returned but not as good as I would have expected.Food was still very good.

  • The Best In Houston

In my view, Le Mistral is probably the best restaurant in Houston, certainly the best French Restaurant. The creative menu, the presentation of the food, and the food itself are all perfect. This restaurant could compete with any in New York City that I have visited, and over the years I have visited many of their great restaurants.

My wife and I dined here for a date night and were very pleased. The service was wonderful and the food incredible! I don't have too much experience with French food, but I am sure that Le Mistral ranks at the top of Houston's list of French restaurants. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a date night, fine dining, or just great food!

An excellent all-around meal, with well-proportioned plates and abundant flavors. Both the escargots and scallops made excellent appetizers. The rack of lamb was beautifully prepared. We enjoyed crepe suzette and profiteroles for dessert - both were great. Recommended for a special occasion meal.

Saw it as a best rating from Zagat, thought we would give it a try. It lived up to its reputation, great service without being overbearing. Great food not available elsewhere, ambiance was sophisticated without being smooth. They were down to earth. The deserts are a must try. Reasonable bill for two and we did not leave hungry or with a doggy bag.

I have dined at Le Mistral numerous times for lunch and twice previously for dinner. My dining companion and I arrived at 7:00 and were promptly shown to our table. We had not seen each other in several years, so after drinks were served, we were left alone for a reasonable amount of time. The waiter was observant and once we picked up out menus he was right there to answer questions and to take our order. We both had Terrine de Foie Gras for starters and it was excellent. I had the Filet Mignon Poêlé, which was excellent and perfectly cooked. The potato mousseline which came with it was very bland. I highly recommend Le Mistral. There you can dine in peace and take your time, much like in a European cafe.

I've only been to Le Mistral for Brunch. I did, however, try their eggs Florentine, which were...odd. It appeared to be a bowl of mashed potatoes, but it contained 2 poached eggs under Bechamel sauce and pieces of DUCK! The duck startled me when I was certain the waiter mentioned salmon.Duck.I've never heard of having duck for breakfast - I must be low brow. Anyway, the waiter was kind enough to exchange for delicious salmon crepes. Well worth the wait. My husband had the 3 course Prix fix menu for $17.Good deal if one is comfortable with soup or salad (he had mushroom soup), cordon bleu with greens and fingerling potatoes, and an apple beignet topped with ice-cream.I don't know how he ate it all - I was happy with my 1 course and coffee

We had a reservation at 10 pm and I called in to see if we could arrive earlier and was told to be there at 9:15, but we got the table at 10 anyway. well....We had the tasting menu and the kids had steaks - they like them medium rare and know their steaks well. Tasting menu: The good thing was small portions, I liked that - The first course (salmon salad) was very promising, excellent, a lot of flavor and well presented. Then one scallop, well prepared! The main course was lamb ragout. Now, a ragout NEEDS to be very soft and buttery and it was not. It was tasty but not outstanding. The desert was nice. The kids did not like their steaks much, the've had better before...In a restaurant of this class they should be prepared sous-vide.
