Diner Reviews
  • "Great service. Friendly and anxious to please, plus the food was well prepared with a great presentation."

  • "We are regulars at Le Med and fans. The ambiance is unbeatable, the staff is great and it is a true neighborhood gem."

  • "Hopping with mostly an older crowd early on a Saturday night. Reservations were a must. Wonderful escargot."

  • "I have enjoyed this restaurant both for lunch and dinner -- delicious food, good service, friendly welcome. I have been with one friend or with a group of four. Both work fine."

  • "I took my daughter and grand daughter here for lunch, and had a wonderful time. The food was superb, from the escargot to the strawberry bread pudding. The service was professional and attentive without being intrusive. This is not a place to go if you have a schedule to keep. The atmosphere is more of a relaxed European air, which is, after all, what French dining is all about!"

  • "I was so pleased to find this no frills French restaurant near our home for a 40th wedding anniversary dinner. My Veal chop was a bit over cooked and dry. It was supposed to be medium pink. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her well done rack of lamb, just the way she likes it! She also was thrilled with her soup. . The waiter was quite busy so getting his attention was difficult. Fortunately, we were able to get a nice bottle of wine, which was one of the night's specials. We will go back because we like this type of French bistro food and one visit is not necessarily enough to form an opinion, especially when the location is convenient. However, for a special occasion in Fairfax City, there is Cafe Mozart."

  • "This was our first visit. We live nearby, but tend not to go to Old Town Fairfax for restaurants. We were very impressed. We had a difficult time choosing which meal we would prefer. Almost everything on the menu looked like it would be great and then there are specials available which also were very appealing. The restaurant is small and was jam packed on a Saturday night. Reservations are essential. When we were there, the crowd was older -- no families or children. Very personal service. Prices were relatively high, but in keeping with the quality and the options available. There is free public parking in Old Town very close by, which I had not anticipated, but was a plus. We will certainly return."

  • "We had a pleasant evening with our family of 3. It was quite lively when we arrived, and there was a group of adults who got a little noisy toward the end of the evening (I think a couple of them overindulged a little!), but the noise never got out of hand. It's a small place, so I think the noise level is probably quite variable and very dependent upon the particular folks who happen to be there at the time. The food was very tasty, although my ahi tuna special was more rare than I would have liked- very lightly seared. Menu has a lot of great items. Service was good, though not great. My one negative would be that the wine seemed overpriced."

  • "We dined at Le Mediterranean Bistro on a Wednesday night and happily learned that it was 1/2 price bottle wine night. We enjoyed two bottles of very nice chardonnays that paired well with our respective dishes, a pan roasted sole served over sauteed kale, and a well seasoned serving of rockfish. The food was delicious, the service was properly attentive, the ambiance was cozy and nice, very french feeling. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant. It's a great find in Fairfax City."

  • "We had to ask the server to turn down the music, which he did. Only a few tables were filled, and it is a small restaurant. the lamb chops were delicious, as was the steak, the mussels and the sole. Because on couple got the special, a bottle of wine and a 3 course prix fix meal we couldn't use our groupon coupon. The pre fix 3 course meal will now be available only on sundays.. We are looking forward to returning. Service was very good."

  • "The mushroom soup was a little better than Campbells canned, and the beet salad tasted like Harvard beets. The entrees were very good. The ambiance and service were very good. It's nice to find a quiet, romantic restaurant in Fairfax."

  • "We had a wonderful evening dining at Le Mediterranean Bistro. The food was prepared to perfection. We did not leave a morsel behind. The wine list was extensive so there was something to pair with every dish. The atmosphere was very nice. I look forward to our return."

  • "A good fusion of Moroccan , French and Med cuisines. Their scallops are excellent and the wine list moderately priced"

  • "I dined at the Bistro last evening with two good friends who were visiting from rural Pennsylvania. The wine, food and service could not have been better. And, at 7:00, the place was packed."

  • "We wanted to try something different for Valentine's Day that was close to home. LMB offered a fixed price special so we made a reservation. We had to go very early since they were booked (a good sign). They even called us to make sure we were still coming for our reservation since there was bad weather that week. We're glad we went early because it got really crowded as the night wore on. The food was wonderful with great presentation. Since I'm on a restricted diet I would have preferred some flexibility with some of the menu items (no substitutions were allowed) and a sugar-free choice for dessert (even fruit), but they were doing the best they could for this special day. The servers were also attentive but very busy. We will go back!"

  • "We have eaten here before and like it very much. The service is always slow and vaguely confused, but that is part of the charm for us. It is the food we adore, and I would normally give the food five stars; however, on this visit things were a little "off" in the kitchen. For example, my entree was cold and we had no time to remedy it. I still recommend the Bistro and have, in fact, made a reservation to return."

  • "This is the type of restaurant that can be a destination that draws people to Fairfax City. It is small, quiet and the food and service are outstanding. My wife and I both had good glasses of wine, but we did not try to peruse the wine menu. She had rack of lamb, and I had mussels and french fries. We highly recommend Le Mediterranean Bistro in Fairfax city."

  • "We had never been to Le Mediterranean Bistro (LMB) before. We were celebrating a wedding anniversary, and since we enjoy French food, and had previously gone to Paris, thought this was a good choice. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to LMB. The food was delicious, and showed careful attention by the kitchen. The Moroccan elements blended delightfully with the French cuisine. Service was excellent, never obtrusive, but attentive & accommodating. The room was a mix of small and large groups, there was a nice vibe to the atmosphere. The only weak spot was the wine list, which lacked medium priced wines, and those wines that were on the lower end of their price scale were undistinguished. Overall, a very nice dining experience."

  • "Took a recommendation from a foodie couple who are good friends and am so very glad I did. Went with a good friend who also enjoys food, wine and ambiance. The food was quite good and the overall experience was well above expectations. My friend had an appetizer, the name of which escapes me, that consisted of anchovy fillets crossed over cherry tomato halves with a couple of sauce garnishes. The anchovies tasted like they just came out of a can, were very oily and the sauces really did not compliment the flavors such as they were. Her appetizer was the only thing that was not well above expectation food-wise for the evening. We will be back!"

  • "Selected Le Mediterranean Bistro for location before the Lady A concert at Patriot Center last night - will return for the food! Amazing find. From the wine to salads to entrees this was a delicious dining experience. I almost regret praising it so highly for fear of exposing a secret spot, but I suspect that the word is already out. Truly outstanding."

  • "Was there for Valentines dinner. We've been there before and liked it. We usually don't do price fix but it seemed all the valentines places were doing this. This time they topped themselves. The food was fantastic every last bite. We got different things so we could try each others . Every bit was exquisite. Usually we share an appetizer, salad, and Entre and that's enough food. The proportions were about right on the price-fix so we did not leave feeling blotted."

  • "This past Saturday was my 3rd vist to Le Mediterranean Bistro and as the others, this one did not disappoint. I live out of State, but come to Fairfax several times a year always taking time to check out the local restaurants. Since I discovered this gem, I haven't been anyplace else! Saturday's menu offered a 4 course Prix Fixe which I found outstanding. The Smoked Salmon with Crab and Cucumber Salad just popped with flavor and my Horseradish Encrusted Sea Bass was perfect. My husband loved the roasted Oysters with Blue Cheese and we both got to enjoy the Duck Foie Gras as it's rich, velvet texture made it far to decadent for me to finish my self! Next time in Fairfax I'll most likely be dining here again."

  • "Restaurant was innocuous from the outside but once you walk into the warm bistro you know you're in for a test. The service was always attentive and although the restaurant was small, they were able to make it feel intimate. You can tell right away they are a neighborhood favorite as smart every table was taken at 6pm. The food was plated well in every one of our four courses. Superb was the soup, filet and sea bass. Everything was cooked perfectly and although a little salt was needed that was easily fixed. Wine is the focus but they have a full bar. At the end of dinner we left satisfied and stuffed."

  • "The food preparations, presentations, and tastes are an exceptional and surprising experience in this smaller, but very well appointed restaurant. The overall ambiance fits the restaurants name perfectly. We will definitely be back for more, and looking forward to a dinner outing next time.....I want to try the Lamb Sausage appetizer. For our lunch, we both had the Crevettes as an appetizer, and they were scrumptious! If you have not tried this Old Town Fairfax experience yet, please surprise yourself with some very pleasant dining."

  • "Each of our four main courses were superb. The only negative was that they had no beer available at all. However, all in all, a great dining experience."

  • "Every time I visit I am enchanted by the food. Beautifully prepared and always with the most fresh, top grade ingredients. A gem of a restaurant in the heart of old town Fairfax with the mystery of its Mediterranean roots and the charm of Parisian bistros."

  • "This location has been the home of numerous restaurants over the past years......it is very small and some might consider it cozy. We however found it to be a bit too tight for our tastes. We had requested a table against the wall but once we arrived there were none to be found. That was fine as the venue is extremely small so we sat right in the middle. Now this means numerous waiters etc passing non stop past both sides of our table, something I do not find comfortable. The food was fine but not great or something we would rave about. We were so hoping it would be wonderful as it is fairly close to home but I do not think we will return."

  • "It was ok, but nothing great. I was surprised actually given the significant number of excellent reviews. I found it overpriced for what it was. They did have a good wine selection. Onion Soup - OK Fillet - Overcooked, too much peppercorn, tough Scallops - Bonefish is better"

  • "Neighbors had recommended La Mediterranean Bistro as a great find - very good menu, great prices, and superb service. In fact, we experienced all three and then some. It was a perfect neighborhood bistro for my wife's birthday. The food was even better than we expected - we had sole and scallops for our entrees, and they were excellent; my anchovy appetizer was to die for; the wine choices fully met our needs (good prices too); the prices overall were great (still on January special); and the service was simply outstanding. I had asked for a little special treatment for my wife, and they outdid themselves. Terrific ... highly recommend."

  • "I'm not a French cuisine connoisseur and didn't have any expectations, but found that Le Mediterranean was a really nice spot and had some delicious options. It's more upscale and on the pricier side, but the food and vibe is worth it for a nice meal. You won't be disappointed."

  • "We made a reservation for 1pm at Le Mediterranean Bistro. It was a good thing we did because when we arrived the restaurant was full. We had to wait a few minutes for a table to open up. The food was very good. The restaurant week menu was basically the luncheon menu and contained some very good choices. Everything my wife and I had was very good. Service was efficient if not overly friendly. Overall, we enjoyed our lunch and would go back to try their dinner menu."

  • "I had beet salad which was yummy and had nice varying textures and colors. It made me think of my upcoming garden with the flower colors I am planning -- purples (beets), oranges, greens, etc. Son had his perennial favorite, French onion soup. I then had butternut squash ravioli with wild mushrooms and sage cream sauce. The French bread was lovely! crunchy for getting lots of cream sauce on. Dessert was bread pudding which always sounds odd to me but it was delicious, it had berries which reminded me of a type of cobbler. All in all, I felt very cheery during and after this meal because the restaurant was light-filled and colorful, the food was attractive and tasty, and the staff was friendly."

  • "This was our first time at this restaurant--tried it during restaurant week. The choices were exceptional as was the food. I had the escargot/potato as a starter and the organic salmon for an entrée. Both were fabulous. Tiny crème brulee for dessert rounded out the meal. Service, however, left something to be desired. There were only two working the multiple tables plus taking care of the phone calls."

  • "Four of us tried this restaurant for the first time and thought it was a wonderful find. The waiter was very helpful and had a nice personality. The food was so delicious that we thought our meals were some of the best we have ever eaten. The menu listed a nice variety of items both as appetizers and for entrees. We plan to recommend this restaurant to everyone we know and hope to go back before too long."

  • "We are repeat diners and love everything about the restaurant, except they do not honor table requests submitted through open table. We asked for a window table two weeks in advance and when we arrived they had not even looked at our request in their computer and of course the window table was taken. They are very accommodating, so next time I will just call and request. Also, they do not have beer! My husband is a beer drinker not a wine drinker like me and we are frequent upscale restaurant clients. We have never been to a restaurant that doesn't have beer if they are licensed to serve alcohol. That said, they 'found' him a bottle and assured us that if we call ahead next time they will make sure they accommodate him. We love this place!"
