Diner Reviews
  • "The head waiter/manager was rude and arrogant. This spoiled an otherwise enjoyable experience. Food was good and supporting waiters were nice and efficient."

  • "Atmosphere was very quaint. It had a nice european feeling to it. Menu choice was nice. I loved that they showed bith vegetarian and gluten free choices. I had the shrimp salad and it was tasty. My friend said the mushroom soup and beet salad and said they were great. There was nothing left on our plates. We were the only ones in the restaurant to begin with. Too bad. It is a cute place with good food and service. Parking is an issue in this area of Fairfax. There is free parking across the street on the corner(going away from Main St)."

  • "Need to add juice to the beverage list, so it's at least on hand at the bar, as well."

  • "We drove by Le Mediterranean Bistro one night and decided to try it. We did so another time. It was a wonderful experience and we've been back several times,. We've never been disappointed. It is a small restaurant. This lends to the intimacy. There is a small but well stocked bar. This is not a bar scene hot spot but would be a good place for a quiet evening drink. My advice is enjoy the drink and stay for dinner. This food is excellent. the wait staff are friendly and attentive and but not annoying. Order drinks and an appetizer. Your dinner will follow at the perfect time. The menu leans toward seafood but chicken, duck, lamb, and steaks are also available. All are excellent but their specialty is seafood. Don't miss it."

  • "This address has been through a few restaurants in the past few years or so, and I wasn't sure what to expect from this latest iteration. My wife and I were pleasantly surprised by the subdued ambiance, the good service and the great food. The menu is smallish, but look also for the daily specials. Expect to pay $90-100 for an appetizer, entree, and a glass of wine - not cheap, but worth it for a special occasion! We plan to be back!"

  • "Food and service was excellent. We could talk without having to raise our voices."

  • "I was quite impressed with the food selection, and especially the wine list. Some very unique and interesting choices. And, the service was incredibly good. Very attentive staff. I look forward to dining there again! "

  • "Lovely inside with nice linens, quiet for comfortable conversation, pleasant service, nice menu--but a bit pricey and not quite as advertised online, shrimp overcooked, but nice salad and presentation, good bread, OK coffee"

  • "We really enjoyed our meals. My duck breast entree was perfect. The carrot-ginger soup was different and quite wonderful. Would definitely go back next time in the area."

  • "This was our first visit and probably won't be the last. The food was very good (French-Moroccan). I had a fabulous grilled octopus to start and the lamb shank with Moroccan spices. I appreciated that it was a small size and doable - I love lamb shank but usually have to take half of it home. My husband had a wonderful sea bass in puff pastry. The restaurant is small and a little cramped, but the staff was efficient and friendly. Kudos!!"

  • "The restaurant is small and cute; the food I solid. We ordered the beet salad, salmon, and scallops. I found the beets and scallops to be the strongest of the three. We did have a groupon, which brought us to the restaurant, but without it, I would probably not go. It was a bit pricey for the quality of the food. The positive is the wine specials on their board are very strong. It is worth a try if you have a discount of some sort. Staff nice and fairly attentive. "

  • "From the name of the restaurant, you'd think it was just 'French', but in fact, it's North African French food. Lots of fish dishes: trout, salmon, rockfish and my favorite, lamb chops. The beet salad with goat cheese was excellent. The creme brulee is the best I've ever eaten. The custard has a hint of lemon and the cooked sugar crust is really crunchy! I've been for both lunch and dinner and the lunch prix fixe menu was flexible meaning diners could choose any one of the regular entrees as their main course. There is a prix fixe menu for dinner, too, but I didn't try that. My only suggestion for improvement is that they keep their website menu current; it was very different than what was offered in the restaurant when we got there."

  • "High prices for ordinary food. Plated food unattractive: meal not cooked as ordered; dessert less than anticipated and very expensive. . When does a French restaurant serve Italian dessert?"
    Dined on 5/23/2014
  • "The kitchen is great! ......but service, though friendly, needs lots of improvement: more organization, timid , more professional. The lack of organization takes away too much from the good cooking."

  • "Just can't agree with the reviews we read before going to Le Mediterranean Bistro. The atmosphere is very nice. The menu sounded great but we found the food just average. We were hoping for better because we like having a local "go to" place. Everyone working there was very nice but we just did not believe that the quality of the dishes were up to what we read about."

  • "The place and is small but nice and cozy.. The service was good and food was very good! The rib eye was very tender and the mussles were tasty! The best place in the restaurant during day time is by the window so be sure to request that spot when you make a reservation. "

  • "The service was great and food was good but this is a very small restaurant and tables are packed into a small area. Tables are too close and there is no privacy. The couple next to us kept jumping into our conversation. This is not the location for a romantic date or for private conversations. My husband and I were on a date night and did not want interruptions to our special time out."

  • "The nice thing about Le Mediterranean Bistro is that it is possible to have a wonderful meal, excellent wine, and lovely conversation. We were a table of four. Two had the mussels and could not stop raving about them. One had the Diver scallops which were well prepared. I don't remember the last dish but it was also well received. We were not rushed in our meal and, in fact, we the last to leave, having the opportunity to have a quiet conversation, a rarity these days."

  • "I have been several times to the restaurant and this was the best ever meal I have had there. In fact in general they are continuing to improve. We are very lucky to have the restaurant in our area."

  • "The food was excellent. The escargot were very tasty and the scallops on a bed of fluffy buttered risotto were superb! The ambience, however, while good was not quite up to the level of the cuisine. Some tables were placed a little awkwardly in relation to one another, and a couple of tables were too close to the pathway to the toilets for comfort. The setting sun reflected off the building opposite and into the dining room, placing dining companions whose backs were to the window in stark silhouette. A soft blind would have been welcome. The good news is that all of these things can be corrected by paying closer attention to such details."

  • "Our starters were not very good at all, but the entrees were decent. The most irritating part of the meal were the wines by the glass, I am guessing no more than 4 oz. If you try this restaurant order wine by the bottle and don't get the shrimp starter. "

  • "My wife and I are foodies. She is French and a wonderful cook in her own right. She said that her meal was wonderful and perfectly cooked and the Cherry sauce was superb. I had the hanger steak, it was great. The sauce was special and enhanced the meat a great deal. We are going to return soon."

  • "What a gem! Le Mediterranean Bistro has a cozy intimate feel and excellent food. French Moroccan describes it perfectly. The wine list was very good. We enjoyed sea bass in phyllo and grilled salmon, both deliciously seasoned. "

  • "I've been to this restaurant twice. The appetizers are typically excellent. I love their beet salad with goat cheese and orange. The chef also serves a daily menu based on fresh ingredients available from the market. I had the duck entree in my first visit and it was excellent. Given that the chef is a Moroccan (who used to be at Evo Bistro in Vienna), I tried the lamb shank on couscous and it was kind of bland...not much taste an flavor, which is unusual for this talented chef. I still think it's a great restaurant with s talented chef. I will come back again."

  • "Le Mediterranean Bistro is a delightful experience. The food was wonderful and the service was excellent. It has such a French feel to it I had to remind my self I was in Fairfax-not on a side street in Paris!"

  • "We had am excellent dinner pre theatre. It was quiet early but filled up quickly as the evening progressed. Recommend reservations as it is a small cozy restaurant."

  • "Food was overpriced for its quality. Service was good. Beware of gluten free label on the menu. We ordered a GF appetizer which had wheat bread on the plate. When we asked the waitress if the bread was GF, she said it was. I told her that a celiac needs to be 100% positive that the food is GF. At that point a manager came out and admitted that it was not GF. When we expressed dismay that it was labeled GF on the menu, they quickly apologized and brought a different appetizer. Too bad that eating GF has become so trendy that restaurants may casually label items as GF, when in fact, they are not. That can have serious consequences for some diners."

  • "Beautifully prepared and presented dishes. This remains the "go to" place for good French food in Fairfax."

  • "Beautiful little gem just off the beaten path in Old Town Fairfax. For appetizers, we enjoyed specials of bay scallops in cayenne pepper, & salad frisée. Both were delicious. I liked the scallops the best, but they are filling! For main course, I had the special rock fish with risotto. The rock fish had a weird sheen on the top that made it appear overdone, but the taste was just right. My date had the Moroccan Pastille, sea bass wrapped in phyllo over lentils. That was the best dish of the evening!"
