  • "No problem about the service. Great food, very friendly waiter. Nice decor. Was a lot of fun!"

  • "Just moved to the NOMA area and stumbled across this gem. Read a few reviews (good and bad) but tried to give it a try. The fact that the main negative point I have to say is that they forgot to put in an order for an appetizer says a lot (normally very critical). Service was good (beside previously noted mistake), food had amazing flavors, ambiance and decor made it feel like a small European travelers restaurant. Bit pricey (especially with the wine) but the complexity of flavors that we had made up for it (marmite and pork medallion for entrees, pear appetizer and creme brulee for dessert). Good date place or for a nice night out. Would definitely go back."

  • "Great decor and ambience, and good service. The chef and food are the week points. Any third grade bistro in Paris has better food."

  • "As a die hard Bistrot du Coin fan, it's always bitter sweet when I find another French restaurant that captures my attention. Le Grenier is excellent. From the table bread to the service to the dessert. I made my first visit with a buddy of mine last week. I like that there are respectable veggie options on the menu here and a nice seafood selection. The entrees were excellent, as was the galette appetizer and the finale cheese plate. The choux pastry for the profiteroles was a little salty, but the dessert was otherwise excellent and a nice way to top off a leisurely meal and two bottles of good wine. I will be back for sure."

  • "I expected a much better meal than we got based on the reviews I read about this place. They seriously don't know how to make a basic steak frites? No taste to the steak and the frites tasted like they were frozen instead of freshly made. The black pepper sauce served with the steak was all heat and no flavor. Disappointed."

  • "From the decor to the food , le Grenier was able to transport Me back to my country.le vol au vent, cassoulet toulousain, Leg of lamb ,and crepe for desert. The selection of cheese Was perfect every taste you need after a great meal. Finally a restaurant where the wine list is diverse and prices are What it should be .le Grenier will be my new go to destination For feeling just like home."

  • "Had the fish profiteroles for an appetizer, the seafood marmite main course, a very fine Sauvignon blanc, and the crepe retour du roi for dessert. My food was uniformly excellent, the service was professional, efficient, and unobtrusive."

  • "If you love Paris, you will love this gem. Staff is amazing, food is great, and Happy Hour (5-7) is perfect. Dinner was fabulous; portions are good, and all reasonably priced. We will be back."

  • "We came because of a Travelzoo deal, but we'll definitely be back. The deal included 2 appetizers (salad, soup or pate), 2 entrees, 2 desserts, a bottle of champagne and a small carafate of orange juice. They also had some warm french bread and lively French music in the background. Everything was delicious--pate of the day, house salad, eggs benedict, croque monsieur, sugar crepe & nutella crepe. We'll definitely be back from brunch and probably dinner."

  • "When I first reserved a table and then realized where they were located, wasn't sure about going. Had a voucher we wanted to use, love to use them to find new restaurants. Le Grenier was well worth the trip, no concerns with the location. Handed over the voucher and service was first class. The food, was so delicious. Prior to eating there wasn't sure I would go back, now that we have tried their menu, we will be going back as often as possible. The apple crepe appetizer was wonderful, the mushroom tarte great. Dinner of chicken - succulent. Dinner of steak, very good. But the topper - the desert, total heaven. Others need to take note that this is how you treat someone who uses a voucher! You have made a repeat client out of us!"

  • "Superb in every sense; the food of course is miraculous, the service stupendous and the whole experience has a very cool vibe to it - and not a stuffy french vibe, but a an undercurrent of warm, wonderful and comfortable."

  • "My boyfriend and I decided on Le Grenier for a date night, but this restaurant would be great for any occasion. The food was exquisite and the ambience was just right. If you are in a rush, I wouldn't suggest going on a weekend night. We ordered the 3 cheese platter, and our waiter was very helpful in our selection process. Not a single cheese was disappointing. The complementary house-made french bread was divine. There is a very interesting house cocktail menu and wide selection of food. I ordered the chicken with mushroom cream sauce and my boyfriend ordered the pork medallions. Both dishes were cooked to perfection, and had a very intelligent, flavorful pairing of ingredients. We would definitely go back again!"

  • "Le Grenier is a lovely neighborhood spot. The food is consistently good and the servers are always friendly and helpful. Definitely one of the better options along H Street!"

  • "I took my 97 year old grandmother here on a whim. Not only was the food exceptional but the service was similar to an unexpected gift. They made us feel like royaliy. In addition, tthe ambiance was reminiscent of a typical restaurant in Paris, elegant and relaxing This was a great find and La Griener will be placed on my favorites list."

  • "My husband and I just dined here for the second time and really enjoyed our meal. Very interesting (and different) cocktails (my "Boudoir" was great), loved the appetizers (Vol au vent and seafood fricassee), and the entrees were also excellent (fish and braised lamb). My only critique is that my husband went there specifically for the coq au vin (which I had the first time) and it wasn't on the menu since they change things around. This is good but if you make a great coq au vin and you're a French restaurant, I'd highly recommend keeping this on it all the time."

  • "This is truly one of our favorite restaurants in DC. As transplants from NY it has taken time to find restaurants that offer ambiance, a sense of casual sophistication, and authenticity. Le Grenier accomplishes all along with lovely and delicious food."

  • "Le Grenier is one of these rare finds -- a French restaurant that actually feels and tastes of France. The décor is charming -- a combination of preserved brick walls still carrying painted ads from long ago and well chosen French antiques that makes for a welcoming atmosphere. And, it helps that the specialty cocktails and the food are interesting and delicious. Our fish and blood sausage were perfectly cooked. And the profiteroles were divine! No less important is the excellent service by the French speaking staff. And, before long, one can take the new streetcar to dinner -- what is not to like!"

  • "Now our family has been to Le Grenier for dinner and brunch. My wife and daughter, who have lived in Paris, really liked it, felt at home. I found everything different and interesting."

  • "Le Grenier has become my go-to for brunch with out-of-town guests. Great service, reasonably-priced, and always delicious. So proud to call you my neighbor."

  • "The atmosphere is really nice. The food was good but we both had meat and it was not very tender. The chocolate mousse great!"

  • "We went to Le Grenier on a voucher but probably would never have ventured to that part of DC on our own. The area is "in transition" but the new streetcar should speed things up. The restaurant is full of charm and felt very European. There is excellent value for the price paid and you certainly won't leave hungry. My husband and I shared the mushroom tart and the sweetbreads for starters and both had great, rich flavors. I asked the waiter if I should choose between the mixed seafood dish or the salmon special and he directed me to the salmon which was perfectly prepared. My husband had the lamp and we finished with a fabulous dessert trio with crepes Suzette and profiteroles. Make the trip, you'll be happy you did."

  • "Overall the food was amazing, despite a long hair found in one of our appetizers. Our personal waiter was one of the finest waiters we have ever had, but the rest of the staff (including the hostess) was appallingly rude. If you're looking for great food, this place is recommended. If you're looking to feel welcomed, I suggest you find another French restaurant in a safer part of town."

  • "Dinner at Le Grenier was one of the best "date nights" in recent memory. The food -- while basic -- was nonetheless well-prepared and delicious. The service, very good -- even the screw-ups! (While waiting for our table, we enjoyed a glass of Champagne at the bar. The bar keep, however, was a bit enthusiastic and mishandled the bottle. Suffice it to say that I had never before seen a bottle of Champagne erupt...it makes a mess but it was fun & enjoyable. The wine list was very accessible and affordable. Le Grenier is located in the up and coming H Street corridor...a bit still rough around the edges... But worth the effort. We will not have to be dragged back to Le Grenier...it is on our favourites list!"

  • "A pretty great dinner and dining experience was ruined by who I can only assume was the manager. As we gave the check back to the waiter, an older man who we assumed was the manager came to our table and said we would need to finish our almost completed glasses of wine at the bar. Without explanation he grabbed our drinks and took it out of sight and left us sitting there. We followed downstairs to find him waiting for us and somewhat agitated. He again explained, more rudely, that we could finish the drinks at the bar. While the restaurant was somewhat busy, we counted no less than 3 open tables on our way down. A little politeness would have gone a long way."

  • "Last night was my first time at this restaurant and it did not disappoint! Not only was the food incredible, the service was great and the ambiance can't be beat. I actually felt like I was having dinner in a little French attic as the name, Le Grenier, implies. I plan to come back again and again - not only for dinner and to try the brunch menu, but also to simply have drinks at the bar and order crepes!"

  • "I was surprised about the Valentine's Day deal I received, but it was a nice introduction to the restaurant. I enjoyed my meal and will return in the future to try other items on the menu. I love the various champagne cocktail options on the menu. The staff was very attentive. The restaurant is small, so I would recommend it for more intimate settings. I love the rustic decorations."

  • "This was my first brunch at Le Grenier, went with a group of 8 and everyone liked their food--someone got a lentil stew with lamb sausage that was delicious, I had a smoked salmon galette that was yummy. The only downside was that it's south facing and we were seated by the floor to ceiling front window so we were roasting in the sun from the window. They turned on a fan and opened the door, which helped, but we didn't linger because were were all sweating. The decor is really beautiful, but comfort first--get a screen for the front window for sunny days."

  • "I went to this restaurant with a travelzoo deal. I wasn't sure how it would be because sometimes you don't get treated as well if you have a discount (I was in the restaurant environment to help pay for university). They didn't treat us any differently than anyone else there! The majority of their staff's first language is french so it was a very authenticate feel, the decor was fantastic, and whether it was the sparkling wine that came with our lovely brunch or the novelty of the place, we sat for hours talking. I will most definitely be returning when travelling for work again."

  • "We got a TravelZoo coupon for the brunch, $45 for two apps, two entrees, two desserts, plus a bottle of champagne. Le Grenier doesn't look like much from the outside--it's website makes it look a lot nicer--but that may be because of the rundown surroundings. Inside though, the food is excellent. It was busy for an early Sunday afternoon and we were early for our reservation but they found a seat for us anyway. I had the pate, croque mosieur, and the crepe nutella while my wife had the house salad, eggs florentine, and lemon crepe. All were really good, especially the crepes. The staff was friendly and authentically French!"

  • "The service was very friendly, albeit a little slower/less attentive than I would have liked. The meal was delicious, cocktails were great, and the wine list for bottles was great. Wines by the glass were a little harder to come by, but overall our meal here was great, and we are definitely planning to come back."

  • "The staff all appear to be legitimately french. The food was satisfactory given the price. The ambiance was very cool and the place seemed extremely full, though not uncomfortably so."

  • "My wife and I came here on Valentine's Day for dinner. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived, although maybe that's our own fault for being 15 minutes late for our reservation? Although I did let them know well ahead of time. There was nowhere comfortable to stand while we waited over 10 minutes for the table despite being told it would be ready in 5. Restaurant far too noisy and they play awful music over all the loud conversation going on! Food decent but not spectacular, highlight were the crepes for dessert. They actually made our drinks too strong though (white russian and amaretto sour). Bill was way too high for the quality of food and service to be honest. Wouldn't go again."

  • "I have always loved this place but Valentine's day, le grenier went way above and beyond. The food was outstanding and the price for 2 was only $39 - we felt like we were stealing."

  • "While visiting DC from North Carolina, I took my boyfriend to le grenier for his birthday. My cousin reccomended the place and it could not have been more perfect. Straight from the get-go the ambience is perfect with the intimate lighting and the antique pieces scattered throughout. Not to mention, the owner's choices of French comtempotary music completed the jazzy cafe feel. The cheese was the best we had had in a long time, the dishes were savory, and the waiter brought out house made ice cream with a candle to top it all off. We will definaty be returning on every DC trip we make in the future."

  • "We enjoyed a nice meal here. The host and waiter were friendly and welcoming. The menu has some classic French dishes with a little bit of a nod towards nouvelle. Well Executed. The mussels were excellent (don't be afraid to ask for more bread to sop up the excellent broth). Nice salads, mushroom tarte. Definitely will be going back. A nice package of comfy, tasty, affordable."
