Diner Reviews
  • "Great Value on neat neighborhood street in the Village"

  • "A delicious pre theater surprise. An extremely pleasant and helpful waiter. Even though I'm oversensitive to salt, the other diners agreed that a lot of the food was slightly too salty. My unusually salty dish was politely replaced, but I"m hopeful the chef will learn to shake his hand a little bit less. The ingredients were fresh, the combintations presented were interesting"

  • "A lovely little spot for dinner for 2. Very nice staff"

  • "Great food in a cozy space, but what's the deal with only taking American Express. It made for an awkward scramble at the end of a nice evening."

  • "Sunday brunch experience was mixed. Bacon was delicious but only one slice per plate. Overall, portions were very small considering the price charged. Scrambled eggs were made with less than fresh eggs and had no egg taste. French Toast was very good. We have enjoyed lunch and dinner here but would not return for brunch."

  • "Great place for dinner for 2 or 4. Celebrated our anniversary and they gifted us champagne. Good food and service all around."

  • "Le Gigot continues to please. The highly praised crab cake is a must-order and the steak is as good if not better than many steak houses. The menu plus a few specials is limited but adequate; the wine list is limited and inadequate. It's understandable that such a small restaurant would have limited wine choices, but we have tried most of the well priced bottles and not one has been as good as it should be for the price. Still, if you haven't been, you should. Make a reservation; many drop-ins are turned away."

  • "Nicely executed French classics with a lighter touch. Staff was professional and accommodating. If you like the Italian part of the Village and its ambiance, you will love this cozy little place, near Bleeker and Sixth Avenue."

  • "Le Gigot continues to live up to its reputation for excellent food, impeccable service and an intimate vibe."

  • "We live around the corner from this tiny, lovely restaurant but have never ventured inside. A mistake! We went there for a celebratory dinner last week and it was delightful. We all remembered the days when New York was full of French restaurants and here was the familiar menu filled with the old favorites. We had a very nice waiter, excellent service, a fine bottle of wine and all three of us were happy with the food and the atmosphere. We'll certainly be back for their famous Gigot etc."

  • "That's what my French Professor said when something was really bad or really good. Le Gigot was probably the best French restaurant I've ever eaten in. It was absolutely fantastic. All four dishes were top shelf."

  • "Le Gigot is very small, with tables for 30 people, but the food is fantastic. A classic French bistro menu, complete with the best cassoulet I've had outside of France, and wonderful escargot. Both menu and wine list are limited, but well chosen. I highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be back."

  • "I came here on a date with my boyfriend, and couldn't be happier with the selection. I heard about La Gigot for a Foods of NY Tour - and they were right, what a great place! Perfect spot for a date: romantic and cozy. The food was great - the rabbit is worth a try! We will be back soon to try the Crème brûlée!"

  • "Terrific food, terrific service. Great combination of up-scale & down-home. Tables are a bit packed in, but that's okay.....it's fun to heat that every single person is having a great evening."

  • "Le Gigot was an exceptional dining experience. Attentive service, with no hovering. Excellent food with a great wine list. As this was a celebratory dinner for a close friend's birthday I was greatly impressed with all facets of the restaurant. My friend was also very impressed as he had lived in France for several years and is well acquainted with the cuisine."

  • "My wife and I have always enjoyed this lovely little escape from the bustling Village, and it has never disappointed, not even during our visit for brunch yesterday when a couple with two babies and another equally uncivilized couple tried to turn it into a second-rate nursery, even going so far as to play their own music on their iPods, ostensibly to calm the poor-parented hellions, loud enough to drown out the sweet, soft background music that the restaurant plays. But we still had a great time, some of it spent amusedly commisserating with the staff. We'll be back soon."

  • "Le Gigot must be one of the most charming restaurants in New York if not the entire world. It is small, with a funky elegance, an inviting bar, cosy tables, and is expertly run by a friendly and welcoming owner and two expert waiters. My friend and I relished the rack of lamb and bottle of Pouilly Fuisse. We had a happy evening, with my friend declaring Le Gigot her new favorite restaurant."

  • "Recommended by a friend. It is an unexpected gem in the Village. It is a French Bistro serving traditional French food and cooking in the traditional way. However, the food is outstanding. The night before, we had a dinner at Del Posto, which is three times more expensive than Le Gigot. Le Gigot proves that we do not pay hundreds of dollars per person to get a wonderful meal."

  • "An excellent Saturday night dinner. In fact on of the best meals we have had at this little gem of a restaurant. We started with escargots and Peters Point oysters. Both dishes superb. The escargots were terrific. For the mail course we had the roast leg of lamb and the bronzini which was a special. Again both dishes excellent. For dessert we shared the bread pudding with a wonderful creme anglaise sauce. Our wine was a 2012 Sancerre. We highly recommend this gem of a restaurant located in a lovely part of the West Village"

  • "So the place is a shoebox, but it works well for it's size. The menu has great options, and the wine list is decent. I'll say the general ambiance is typical of a french bistro, but i'm not sure how that works out for a resto of this size. Overall I enjoyed my brunch and our bottle of wine, but I somehow expected more from this west village gem."

  • "The food is excellent and the restaurant reminds you of Paris but the waiters are nicer."

  • "Four of us went for dinner on a Saturday night. It is a tiny restaurant with tables very close together, and yet amazingly, we could all hear our conversation very well and were not at all bothered by the noise level. The menu items were typical French bistro type of food- hangar steak, beef bourguignon, etc. I had the guinea hen which was very well prepared. My appetizer salad was not that exciting, but the bread was good - so I managed just fine. We shared Tarte Tatin for dessert and I would not recommend it. Overall a fun dinner out with good friends. I would go back."

  • "the service could not have been better--very attentive and accommodating-food a little disappointing--had the Bouillabaisse- a bit fishy and not enough taste in the broth- Had to make the reservation for 6--anything later like 6:30--7:45 was totally booked or so that is what it appeared- There were a handful of empty tables-"

  • "I have been going to Le Gigot for 15 years and have NEVER been let down. The food is always great, the service impeccable and so friendly, and the noise level very reasonable. It is small but I never felt packed in or as if I was on top of people. This restaurant is a TRUE GEM!!"

  • "Le Gigot has long been one of our favorite places, in fact we went for Valentine's Day a few years in a row. But, rest assured that this is not some V-Day place. Rather, it is a qunitessential French Bistro complete with great food, attentive service and an approachable French wine list. We had another great experience last weekend and we will be sure to return soon. Certainly, one of our favorites."

  • "We discovered this neighborhood gem with a quick Online search. It is everything you want on a quaint, simple setting restaurant: quiet, excellent service, friendly staff, good wine list and outstanding food. The crab cakes are the best ones we've had. We've been here twice and we ordered different things each time and it was exquisite. It is now on the list of favorites restaurants in the city. YOU MUST GO TO THIS PLACE!"

  • "High quality food in a friendly, cozy setting. Only one issue--they only take the American Express card. That's a problem."
    Dined on 2/5/2014
  • "This was our first time at Le Gigot. It is a comfortable interior albeit a bit tight, but the staff makes it very accommodating and the service is attentive but not interfering. Wine and beer only, and only a relatively limited selection of wine, two of which they did not have. Nevertheless, our waiter was very knowledgeable about what was there and helpful in selection. The specials were attractive, and our four dishes (the eponymous lamb was outstanding, as was the rabbit and hanger steak and chicken special) were consumed with relish. Not inexpensive, but not overpriced for the experience and ambiance. Just what a good bistro should be."

  • "A wonderful meal. The restaurant is tiny. You feel like you are in a little Parisian bistro, Cassoulet was one of the best I've had. Great country pate. Very intimate and friendly."

  • "This little place feels like so many good places in Provence -- it's run as if by a family, it's friendly and cozy. The menu is filled with classic dishes, but there are always a few surprises on any given night. It's quite small, so DO book ahead."
