Diner Reviews
  • "We love coming here for ourselves and with visitors - its always good."
    Dined on 4/18/2014
  • "Our family of three really enjoyed our dinner here on the 18 march. It was a taste of spring, which as east coasters, we couldn't get enough of this year! The restaurant was packed and we were seated at the end of a communal table, which worked out perfectly. We enjoyed the spring asparagus with fried duck egg and sauce grebiche, moules meunière, squash blossoms stuffed with regional goat cheese, and a lovely red pepper pasta. Dessert did not disappoint, we had a tarte tatin, coconut creme caramel and a strawberry rhubarb tarte. Wine list was well edited and well priced. Only slight drawback is the noise level, they could do with some additional sound proofing. We would go back, or try their sister restaurant Fast Food Francais. "

  • "The food was great, I had the mussels and my wife had steak and frites. Out starter was a charcuterie of several meats. The Loma Palacio ham was absolutely wonderful."

  • "Very good, always reliable, great ambience on a nice day."

  • "This is my favorite restaurant in Marin. It's hard not to fill up on the bread and butter but, if you do, there are lighter dishes in addition to the classic steak-frites and traditional French fare, all very elegantly presented. Brunch on weekends is really special but the wait can be long."

  • "Service with the perky French attitude created an abundant joyful experience. The food from appetizers through dessert was extremely delicious. Escargot, tombo tuna started the fire and then the duck confit and perfectly cooked medium rare ribeye blazed. Top it off with a Bordeaux wine and my wife and i exalted smiles. A lively experience for couples and close friends."

  • "We have always had a fabulous meal here. The duck is outstanding as are both mussels dishes. Prices are reasonable. One of our favorite places."

  • "Maybe it was an off night. Maybe it was us. But for 150 including tip I hoped for something a bit more ...special. I've spent the same amount for 2 people at Picco and had a meal and experience worth remembering. This place is perhaps better for after work boozing it up with fried French fare then say, a special occasion. Service was spotty at best, and the exposure to a cold outside night from the dining room-- even with the space heaters on, was chilly. Once again, I think I simply went in with too high of expectations."

  • "A great "hole in the wall" location with a great sampling of French favorites without the stuffy manners and attitudes common to such restaurants in reality and legend. "Duck confit" was a lesson in how great the dish can be. We'll worth the visit, can't wait to return!"

  • "I really enjoyed my first visit to Le Garage and would definitely go back! Everything was delicious. Service was excellent. A bit loud -- the place would be even better if they'd leave the music off."

  • "Nice service, and the food was great. Having a pretty rowdy table near us sometimes made talking difficult. The whole place was very crowded and noisy, but very good, nonetheless."

  • "My first visit, had a great time. Food was good, ambience was fun and relaxing. Service was fine, nothing to complain about. And it wasn't too pricey. Nice option for Sausalito."

  • "Informal bistro-type place in dockside location in Sausalito. French menu, nice-sized attractive portions. Good wine list. Not at all fancy but fun. A bit tricky to find, use GPS. Parking in reserved marked lot, follow signs to correct area to avoid citation. ."

  • "very disappointing- have had pleasant lunches there but noise level - horrible and grilled rib eye not good , bone marrow salad ( which I LOVE) also missed the mark--very fishy tasting from the anchovies!"

  • "We felt like we were in France. We even spoke French with our waiter who was from Lyon."

  • "The ambiance is fantastic and we enjoyed it. The bread is amazing, the wine was good and I can imagine it's really nice in the summer with the doors open!"

  • "I think Le Garage has the best food and Service in Sausalito and would stand up well against any Bay Area restaurant. The food is always well prepared and served hot and the service is really impeccable - from host to wait staff to bus staff. It is in a beautiful setting and it is always a joy to dine there. I had the Trout on parsnip mash - perfectly cooked and seasoned! The wine list is interesting and priced well."

  • "I have lived in the Bay Area since 1988 and can honestly say this was the worst dining experience I have ever had. We had dinner reservations at 7:30 pm. By the time we were seated it was 8 pm. When we finally received our main course I looked at my watch and it was 9:15pm. Yet the food was very good, unfortunately the lack of customer service and noise level overshadowed our dining experience. We will not be returning."

  • "I used to love this place. Always guaranteed great food, french-style service (meaning exceptional!), and a great ambiance. Not so now. They obviously overbooked, tried cramming 3 of us at a table for 2 where there wasn't even room for the food, and not enough servers. The servers didn't even know what we ordered (brought us the wrong dishes and then after waiting for them to come back for 10 minutes, they re-served the food to the people at the table next to us. Ca alors la!) They didn't pay a bit of attention to our needs --and we were into the $300 range for the evening. At one point, I thought they forgot about our food -- and us -- altogether, the wait was so long. To top it off, the food was exceptionally ordinary. Bien dommage!"

  • "It's nice to have a good little French place to go to an the owners of this place have created a small little trio of good French joints in Southern Marin. Good to have in our mix in this neighborhood."

  • "I love this place for it's ambiance and soul. Energetic and fun and great and interesting service. One of the most precious things about this place is the setting - so romantic with the proximity of the moored boats right next to you and the setting being an old garage and to top it off, the waiters are French and the food is sophisticated and upscale French Bistro. Our last booking was for 6:15 PM and we were seated right away. Unfortunately, we had to suffer through two opposing screaming two year olds which is very off-putting. The scene at Le Garage is very loud anyway, but with the two screaming and very unhappy kids, it made it impossible to enjoy our meal or to be able to have a conversation without screaming."

  • "Le Garage is nice place and we will be back, but certainly will make an earlier reservation. The food was delicious and well presented; however, we felt hurried through our dinner and the server seemed annoyed when we ordered desert. We got there at 9:00 pm and finished three courses and a bottle of wine by 10:10. It was all very rushed and the entire staff were giving us looks as I ate my desert. I felt so uncomfortable I left it half-finished and we retreated to the parking lot. My advice, come earlier, enjoy the good food, look at the beautiful view, and make sure you're out of there by 9:30 pm."

  • "for a place called Le Garage I shouldn'tt have been expecting much in the way of decor but I really did feel as if I was eating in a garage but paying higher prices than one would expect for this kind of ambience.Of course being all metal & hard surfaces it was WAY too loud . We couldn't hear each other or even the waiters. And on a rainy night it felt cold & damp.My salad had to be sent back as it was so overdressed. My friends however were vey happy with the order of mussels they shared as an appetizer & my duck confit entree was very good-a nice size serving & absolutely delicious. Dessert was kind of boring - pistachio creme brulee (although we couldn't taste any pistachio) & a lemon tart with crust had an odd overly salted taste."

  • "I eat here regularly so was sorely disappointed with my last visit. Tried the Bouillabaise and it was terrible. Lacked taste and the portion size looked like they had run out of ingredients. The beet salad was still delicious as was the tarte tatin. Will return but will stick with the mussels as they are tried and true."

  • "My boyfriend and I had the most amazing dinner here over Valentine's Day weekend. The food, service, and EVERYTHING was phenomenal. We can't wait to come back."

  • "A less than memorable experience: first off and most importantly the food. The duck was bland an and really not what you would expect from French restaurant. The rib-eye (medium rare) was so chewy that half was left behind. The special of the day (a fish plate), was good but on the salty side. The appetizers (bead salad and artichoke salad) sounded interesting, but the beads had no taste whatsoever. Both were "cold" and clearly per-prepared much earlier. All in all, bland food, with so-so ingredients They could only get us in at 9:15PM because that was the only spot open (I called to confirm) but when we got there (15min early) there were plenty of tables open. We did get free deserts for the bad rib-eye, but not likely to go back."

  • "Great food and prices were reasonable! The only thing that is an inconvenience is that the restrooms are located in another, unattached building, so if it's raining, bring an umbrella!"

  • "We found it hard to find the restaurant at night and in the rain, not good signage . We liked our food, with one of our friends not caring for the way the Brussels sprouts were prepared. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgable about the wine and the food. The only drawback was the noise. It was very hard to carry on a conversation. Our friends probably won't be back because of that, but we are looking forward to coming back for brunch or a time when the weather permits us to sit outside. All, in all we had a nice evening. Thank you, Kaaren"

  • "Working north from San Francisco, we decided to stop in Sausalito. We were glad we did as we discovered this little gem of a place. Great food and everyone was really friendly. Made us feel like locals / regulars."

  • "Le Garage is wonderful except for the very high noise level and the fact that it is quite uncomfortable to eat there on cold days or in the evening. The garage (concrete floor and the tent enclosure) make for a very noticeable lack of insulation. It is also the reason for the high noise level. The conditions are certainly more tolerable in the day, but at night when you want a nice, relaxing, or even intimate meal, the noise level would fit a category quite a bit above energetic, and the restaurant's temperature would be considered cold. A jacket is certainly needed."

  • "This time, the portions were tiny. The bouillabaisse was bland and disappointing. Everyone in our group of six thought the food was not good. My husband and I loved it before, and had mussels and lobster bisque that were fantastic. Portions need to increase and add flavor to the entrees. The French fries were really good. Chocolate dessert was tiny. Ambience lovely."

  • "I dislike the term Foodies, so will not respond to your #2. Everything was very good about the restaurant, except the waiter. He did not listen to us regarding the wine we brought and pushed filling glasses too much and too often. He was simply trying to push us to purchase more wine. Four of us had three bottles of wine; so his actions were silly. Otherwise, the table service and food were terrific. If our guests and the food were not great, the waiter could have spoiled the evening."

  • "We keep a boat in the Marina where Le Garage is located, so it's really convenient for us. We took some friends to dinner there, who are picky about their food and wine. Both were very tasty... A little pricey for the venue, in my opinion. Particularly when the restrooms are a mile away (not literally, but felt like it)."

  • "Escargot was missing spices and garlic. Confit de Canard weren't crisp on the outside. They presented us the dessert menu after our first course. This was an obvious mistake since we were waiting for the main course."

  • "No need to go into the City for French food with Le Garage here in Marin! Always consistent and tasty food, service always friendly with knowledgeable staff."

  • "My friend and I were there on a Monday night. It was so nice because it was not crowded and therefore not noisy. Our great server Natalie was sweet and knowledgeable. She was friendly and attentive in a very good way and we enjoyed our evening all the more. Food is very good and Natalie recommended a nice wine. I love this place when it is not so noisy because the noise can be deafening."

  • "We really liked this place. It was just a little loud so we had trouble hear out waiter and each other. The service was great though and the food was worth it all. We want to go back and try the brunch and lunch sometime soon. If you don't mind the noise you need to go to la garage."
