Diner Reviews
  • "Montreal is not known for seafood, but Le Filet had some of the best I've ever had. Everything was superb from the first drink to the desert. All of the food was amazing. The oysters were perhaps some of the best I've ever had."

  • "This was a surprisingly disappointing experience. I frequent Le Filet primarily to entertain out of town guests or an intimate dinner. I have never been disappointed and that is why I will still recommend Le Filet. It could have just been the way the server placed our order. We initially arrived when it was fairly empty. We were seated (3 of us) next to a large family which increased the noise level. . The server didn't come until awhile after our cocktails to take our order which consisted of a variety of appetizers (more than 4) which was open for the table to share. We each ordered a principle meal which was served at the center of the table rather to us individually. 2 out of 3 meals came, the 3rd was forgotten and came 1/2 way later:("

  • "What a marvel! Outstanding dishes and over the top delicious. Yes, its's that good. The oysters with miso gratin packed so many flavours. My absolute favorite was the cavatelli with veal cheeks and foie gras. If you really appreciate unique ingredients and don't believe that good food has to be a gluttonous portion, then you've struck gold with this restaurant. The staff was excellent, attentive yet unobtrusive. They made excellent recommendations both with food and wine selections. Book in advance. I am already planning my next visit!"

  • "I had been here before but the food and service were even better than I remembered. One of the best meals I've had in awhile. Everything on the raw menu is particularly good. Definitely recommend."

  • "We came in rather late on a Saturday night to find a full restaurant where you could actually have a conversation with your dinner partner! What a relief. The house cocktail was a wonderful way to start, and our waiter was helpful and very pleasant. And then the first dish arrived. Oh my! The tuna tempura was the best I have ever had, and we have had excellent versions. Every dish thereafter was a delight: fresh, beautiful presentations, just the right size to share and wonderfully flavourful. We will be back very soon!"

  • "I booked Le Filet for dinner strictly on the reviews it received on many websites and I must say, I am VERY glad I did. I have been all over ther world, visited many restaurants and this is for sure in my top 3. The menu was great (especially if you like tapas), the service was unbelieveable (I wish I could remember my waiters name) and the wine list was endless. I went here for a Valentine's dinner but I would return for any occasion, even just because it was Thursday. This will be my one recommendation to any friends travelling to Montreal."

  • "we reserved 2months before the special occassion. We went on time and the restaurant wasn't full. Alexandre the maitre d'hotel offer usthe worst table in the restaurant. Same waiter came to to late with anorther plate. Please don't except to get the best service. If you are a simply foodies, and not a celebrity don't go. Sorry for the real people who know where to go."

  • "We travelled from off the island to celebrate with some guests from the USA . We chose this restaurant following excellent treatment a few months earlier. Wow what a different service experience, described as poor at best. We waited 15 mins for a drink order, once we got our drinks our request for lots and lots of ice was met with a small glass of ice, this requirement was treated by the waiter as a joke and would be repeated on each drinks order. Waiting to order was so long to we requested some bread be provided to the table.Despite being clear this was a celebration ,we were unable to keep drinks flowing and never got to see a wine menu! Once the food did start arriving we enjoyed it but our overall experience was too dented by that time!"

  • "I have been wanting to try out LE FILET for a long time and what better occasion than my sister`s birthday. I was extremely appreciative of the service, the staff was very knowledgeable and the cuisine, different than what I have tried in the past. The Asian influences are right in line with my taste palette, brought a creative aspect to the dishes. Although the meal was very pricey¨(!!!), from time to time, it`s fun to eat outside the box!"

  • "Love everything about this place but it is not for you if you're hoping to have an intimate conversation. We had an assortment of plates with wine pairings and all was excellent. Tuna tartare, mediterranean cod, arctic char, crab risotto, and beef shortribs with maple square for dessert. All delicious!"

  • "Dined on a saturday night, the place was buzzing. Greeted warmly at our arrival, friendly and professional service throughout the evening. Food was tasty, original and very good. Hamachi tuna stole the show. It is a bit difficult to get a table but it is well worth it. Roughly $165 for two with a decent bottle of wine so reasonable for this kind of upscale restaurant."

  • "From the moment we were welcomed at the door, our evening only got better. Our server took our dining experience to another level, as we moved through the various taste sensations. The attention to detail, and the assistance with wine selection were exceptional. What a way to spend a Friday evening in Montreal, can't wait to return !!!!"

  • "The raw dishes at Le Filet are superb... make sure you try every single one of them. These dishes were our favourite part of the meal and we ended up ordering two plates of each! Highly recommend."

  • "This is the second time I have been here, and Le Filet did not disappoint. The oysters are always a great choice to start off the meal, and the cavatelli with the foie gras was a real thing of beauty. Also, the half lobster was buttery and well flavored - it made me happy that all the plates are made to be shared so my husband could enjoy it right along with me! The service at Le Filet is always spot on. Super professional and courteous! I loved the meal so much, when I got home, I reserved to go again on March 15th with 2 other couples!"

  • "For a foodie, this is one not to miss. Especially fun if you want to share a bunch of small plates with a group. There were 4 in our group. We started with one each of the three oysters on the menu. 2 were raw, one cooked. The combination of flavors & textures from the ingredients used in the sauce for each was really interesting. (Not to mention yummy!) We then each selected a main, & asked the waiter to suggest other food as well as wine pairings. Everything was spot on. The waiter was knowledgeable, friendly, & suggested just the right amount of food. Too many courses to list, but we were very happy with all. You will not be disappointed!"

  • "Nice spot on Mont-Royal. On a Saturday evening the clientele before 10pm was middle-aged but trendy, got younger as the night progressed. The food was great, of the sort you would expect to find in a similarly priced restaurant. Enjoyed the roasted pumpkin salad and the red snapper. One other guest was especially impressed by the raw scallops. We found the service a tad on the condescending side. The waiter made several comments about the dishes we were ordering. It almost seemed like we were being rated on the appropriateness of our choices. You are expected to order from 2-3 dishes per person and follow their recommendation. In the end our requests were accommodated."

  • "Le Filet was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had while traveling - or staying at home. The small plate format served to express the flavors and presentation of each seafood element. The tuna tartare was better than Mistral's in Boston. We are from the Puget Sound area and appreciate fresh, abundant, seafood, but oysters from Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) with the subtle, crunchy jalapeño garnish were superb. The entire meal was a heavenly experience. The space is actually in a relatively small, but well-used-including elegant magnetized wine chillers that stick onto the the metal walls. The service excellent - attentive without rushing us. It's bit on a trek-first on the subway, then a 7-8 block walk, abut well worth it."

  • "From the moment we walked in the door to the host arranging for a taxi...the service was excellent. There were a few lapses but it was not our waiter's fault. We aren't normally big eaters but thought the menu looked so delicious and eclectic, we had to order 6 small plates. Appreciated the plates were really for sharing as there was always two of everything on the plate. A few dishes we ordered......Tuna Tartare, egg confit, nori tempura. Grilled octopus,Israeli couscous,Meyer Lemon Coulis. Cavatelli, foie gras, veal cheek. Sweetbread, lobster, squash gnocchi, porcini. All, plus two more, were beautifully presented and to our tastes, delicious. Very good wine list, but in our opinion quite over priced."

  • "Try the beet, scallop, avocado salad...to die for. I don't even like scallops! Every dish we had was exceptional. The flavours and presentation were incroyable. The ambiance was chic, fun yet classy. This is now my favourite restaurant in Montreal...and that's a tough competition here!"

  • "Fabulous food - excellent small plates with a winning variety of options. The waiter was especially helpful in making suggestions that proved to be just right in terms of what quantities of which dishes we should order. The noise level is very high so I would not recommend more than 4 people in your party - even then conversation was difficult. But the food is outstanding!"

  • "Second time at Le Filet and both times the food was simply amazing. The restaurant is quite pricy, but definitely worth the experience at least once in a while. My girlfriend, who was there for the first time, very much enjoyed it too. The ambiance may be a tad too noisy for some people, but we enjoyed energy in the room."

  • "Food was great but the noise deafening. So popular that the tables were still turning over at 10:00. Table was not ready with reservation but provided drinks as a compensation which was generous. I would like to go back but it was far too noisy - couldn't hear any conversation."

  • "Every so often, we hit a restaurant that goes beyond excellent or exceptional, and is just perfect. Everything about Le Filet was perfect for us. The food was amazing - delicious, creative, fresh, piping hot (lots of high end restaurants seem to have problems with this last part, unless you're eating at the chef's table). No complaints about the service. The space is beautiful. The menu is appetizer size share plates, which is the perfect concept for us."
