A word from Le Contemporain
Le Contemporain is a gastronomic bistro located on the exhibition level (first floor) of the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal. The chef-owner Antonin Mousseau-Rivard draws on the Automatist palette for its inspiration, further enhanced by the skilful blend of flavours and unique personal touch of this young self-taught chef.

  • "We were seated and were never offered a menu. We had to ask for one. We explained to 2 different people that we had a show to attend and were recommended quick dishes but still our main meal took over an hour to arrive. We had ordered the tartare, not even something you had to cook! The waitress never passed by our table, we had to flag someone else down. We never even got to eat dessert. The food, when it arrived, looked and tasted amazing. However, the service was so poor that I will never go back."

  • "Beware: There is no signage for this restaurant, so you have to know where it is. It's inside the Museum of Contemporary Art (2nd floor) - which is a bit strange. We arrived a 6pm (2 hours before a MSO concert at Place des Arts). We were the only customers during the 1.5 hours we were there, which was odd (or maybe not - since the restaurant's existence isn't obvious). So, we had our server's full attention, and she was wonderful, taking the time to explain every dish on the menu to us. Every dish was simply excellent - exceeding our expectations! It still amazes me that the place wasn't packed full of people. We will definitely be going back."

  • "This place is a real find. We were in Montreal unexpectedly and trying to get reservations. It turned out that it was Restaurant Week and all the places we were interested in trying were booked. This was the only place we could get reservations, and so we jumped at it. How lucky we were! You'd think that a restaurant in an art museum wouldn't be much to speak of, but there you are quite wrong. The food was not just incredibly tasty, it was imaginative and beautiful. Salads with meringue and sorbet, main dishes topped with quail eggs, and dessert with salted buttermilk ice cream. I could go on and on but there is just not enough room in this review! In short: this place is a find. It's worth your time and money. Eat in an art museum!"

  • "Excellente carte de plats agréablement recherchés. Le concept: 2 services dont les assiettes sont équivalentes contrairement à l'approche "entrée-plat principal". On peut ajouter un dessert ou un fromage. Chacun des 4 plats goûtés avait une touche distinctive et des saveurs marqués. Savoir-faire de qualité. Le choix de vins au verre limité mais intéressant, entre autre un pinot de l'Oregon très bien typé. Service compétent et sympathique. Toutefois je doute que le resto plaise aux "grands appétits", les portions étant plutôt raisonnables, mais suffisantes dans notre cas. À noter la qualité du pain ( boulangerie Amora ?). Le décor du resto est fort froid et les sons se répercutent sur les murs nus rendant l'atmosphère bruyante dû à l'écho."
