This was one of the best dinning experiences I have ever had. The gentleman host was so nice and friendly. He was very proper and polite. Since we got there early he offered to seat up early or enjoy the bar and come down when we were ready. The bar area is amazing and comfortable. I had one of the best old fashioned I have ever had.The hostess who sat us sweet. When were seated we were greeted by our very nice bus boy and the waiter with the accent was super charming. The timing of the food was perfect and not rushed. Since it was my birthday the three of us were celebrated with a nice sparkling wine and chocolate cake. Overall the perfect night. Worth the trip into the heart of The Tenderloin.

We always come here for dinner before going to a show at the Geary Street Theater. The service is excellent...from the greeting at the door to the serving and clearing of the food.... We always share the delicious potstickers...which are very different from the ones you might order at a Chinese restaurant. My husband loves the banana-leaf-wrapped fish and I always order the shrimp curry which includes mango and eggplant. We also like to share the coconut rice. We would highly recommend this restaurant!

In hindsight, I'm amazed we could get a same day reservation here; this place is a gem. We were seated at a corner table, giving us a perfect vantage point. Our server Ged was helpful but not intrusive, and gave good recommendations. The food was extraordinary. The appetizer platter allowed us to try several dishes. The crispy duck rolls were sensational and the filet mignon in one of their specialties was perfectly cooked, tender and so flavorful. The ambience is so lovely here; it's evident they worked hard to make it seem as though they aren't working at all.

The food was fine, but nothing special. Given the prices I expected the food to be special/unique. You can get much better Vietnamese food on clement street for 1/4 of the price. Sitting outside was a very lovely atmosphere.

We were a party of 6 all coming from different cities. When we arrived there was no reservation, no record, nothing indicating we wanted to eat dinner there. The restaurant ran interference and got us a table despite the glitch from Open Table. I would ask that Open Table understand what went wrong with their procedure because we could have all been disappointed had the restaurant not been able to accommodate us.

The service at Le Colonial was terrible. We were basically ignored. We reached out to passing servers to ask for more water and wine. We would have ordered more food since the portions were small and another bottle of wine but were never given the opportunity. When we mentioned something to the manager we were berated in front of several other tables. He complained that many tables arrived late and they were jammed. We arrived on time. I have never experienced someone so rude in a restaurant in my life. We were shocked. It was our friends birthday and he basically ruined the special night. I will never go back and I hope anyone who wants to have a pleasant dining experience will stay away.

It's a beautiful restaurant, although noisy in the dining room; if we were ever able to come back, we'd ask to sit in the outer area. All of us enjoyed the food. But we could not get our water refilled, despite multiple requests. Perhaps this was because we didn't request bottled water, although waiters at adjoining tables seemed able to supply refills. On our fourth request, the waitress said, " we'll, we'll have to seevwhatvwe can do about this," and did nothing. Forvthe prices that are charged, and despite the drought, you should be able to get your water glass refilled. The waitress also brought us other tables' bills twice. A disappointing experience, especially since we had out of town guests.

You couldn't survive off an alley for 15 years of the food wasn't great. This Vietnamese gem is terrific. Fun drinks is always a plus but terrific foods makes it a must each time I'm in San Francisco. The shrimp and scallop pancake appetizer in lettuce cups was outstanding and worthy of ordering two and a future entree. Rice paper spring rolls were so fresh it was like eating a salad in a roll. Great location, great space. Will definitely be back.

Visiting Le Colonial is a bit like entering another country. The ambiance and bar scene here are the strong points, along with the service. The only slight miss for our visit was the food. It was good, but not exceptional. Also, the cocktail/beer/wine list was out of date, which is only a slight annoyance, but not something I expect from a restaurant at this level.

I like Le Colonial, I've been there a few times before and have always enjoyed my experience. However, I do feel like the food and prices are a bit overrated. I always think I'm going to leave speechless but I always leave with yeah that was good, can wait for another year to do it. The one thing I love about the colonial however is their lounge, too bad you can't make reservations for that.

I've been to Le Colonial probably a dozen times. It's a bit of a tradition when I get to SFO, and I never get tired of it. The food is delicious, consistent and beautifully prepared. The ambiance is energetic and up-scape without being stuffy at all. The wine list is extensive with both high-end and middle of the road selections, and the Sommelier is helpful and has, without fail, steered me toward wines that were cheaper and better than the ones on the menu that I knew. I would recommend this to anyone in the downtown area. Great experience and amazing food!

Our drinks and appetizer arrived on time. But we had to wait about 40 minutes for the main course, which we didn't receive until 20 min. before our theater reservation, so we had to wolf down our food and run to the theater. Kitchen delays happen from time to time, but Le Colonial failed to respond appropriately: no one informed us of the delay until we flagged down a waitress after waiting a very long time for our food, who apologized that there was something wrong in the kitchen. We were on the verge of cancelling our order when it finally arrived. They should have warned us of the delay before we had to wait too long, and asked if the delay was acceptable or if we needed to cancel our order. We won't eat there again.

Due to extremely slow service, we ended up having to box our dinners last Saturday evening in order to make our 8 p.m. theater curtain. Besides the service issue, the food was very average for a Bay Area Vietnamese restaurant and not befitting for the attractive dining room. To its credit, Management was apologetic and offered post-theater consideration but we declined.

We had a delicious pre-theater dinner at Le Colonial last week. Attentive, professional service by a waiter sensitive to my allergies who found a slight deviation that allowed me to enjoy a salad. Outstanding food, especially the Sea Bass and Shrimp Curry with tamarind. We were raving about it two days later and plotting an early return. The setting and decor takes you far away in a Raffles mood. If you love Vietnamese food, my advice: go to Le Colonial soonest...
