Le Colonial - ChicagoAwesomeThis is a true gem in the Chicago dining royalty. We loved everything at the restaurant and will recommend to everyone we know.
Loved it!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFave Chcago find!Continue to return to this special Chicago gem. Explosion of tastes and aroma. Especially enjoy sharing numerous appetizers. Look forward to my/our next visit! :-)6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMClassy and delicious dinner! We had another wonderful dinner at LeColonial. The service is absolutely top notch, the food is delicious and beautifully presented, and it's a gorgeous restaurant! For what more could you ask?6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMChocolate Mousse!Loved this place! The whole menu was great, nice wine list and great atmosphere. Main dishes were great (particularly the summer seasonal seafood dishes), and the appetizers may have been my favorite part. The Filet mignon salad is a must and any of their fresh rolls will leave you satisfied.
I also found a dessert I've been searching for for 15 years in their chocolate mousse cake. Delicious mousse with a raspberry, white chocolate sauce. You'll have to try hard to show some restraint and leave room6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food, Wonderful ServiceMy boyfriend and I came here for a nice dinner on our visit to Chicago. We were highly satisfied in all regards - the food was absolutely wonderful (especially the spring rolls!) and the service was outstanding as well. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a different type of food (I had never had French Vietnamese food before) and to anyone looking for a nice or romantic evening out!6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent -- As Always!Start with the monk fish and tuna tartar appetizers, move on to the whole snapper (presented and then de-boned in the kitchen) and vegetables with spicy tofu and you will have a winner on your table. This is the perfect amount of food for two.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat French-Vietnamese Restaurant! This is my 4th time here and this last visit was probably the best one. The atmosphere is nice and romantic. The food is a perfect combination between Vietnamese and French. They have a long and good wine selection. I actually prefer the Chicago restaurant over the NY one.
Definitely recommended!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMVietnamese in ChicagoMy sister & niece had never been to a Vietnamese restaurant so I decided to take them for my birthday. We loved everything, especially the mushroom ravioli, the chicken curry, and the banana wonton dessert is to die for. Love restaurants like this because you get to share lots of items and have lots of taste differences. By the way, they have excellent cocktails too.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMalways a treatLe Colonial is my favorite restaurant in Chicago, and with so many great places to choose from that is high praise. The food and service have been consistently excellent over the years, this visit was no different.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite restaurantThis is one of our favorite restaurants. We go there whenever we are in Chicago. Always exceptional food and service. A real treat.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWOWHad been told this was a special place...It was, Made my trip to Chicago even more memorable.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique Vietnamese/Asian RestaurantLe Colonial has been a long-standing, reliable restaurant offering Vietnamese and Asian dishes in a cozy atmosphere. The dining room has the feel of an early 20th century private home or club and the staff conducts itself in a quiet, dignified manner consistent with the decor. The dishes are all unique, taking full advantage of traditional spices and flavors with the best of seafood, vegetables and meats. The soups and appetizers are particularly good and can easily be combined to provide a full and satisfying meal. We have eaten here many times always have had an enjoyable experience. The prices are on the high moderate scale, but good value.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been coming since 1997I've been coming since 1997 - it hasn't changed a bit nor should it!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother wonderful experience.Another wonderful experience. I used to live 3 blocks away and we came at least twice a month for "date night." It's still fantastic, but it's a bit of a trip from Phoenix. We make it a point to visit every time we're back in Chicago.
A truly wonderful combination of flavor subtleties in every dish. The wine list is varied and ranges from true values to truely superb (and priced appropriately) fine wines. You can always find something great to pair with your dinners.
We'll be back on our next visit.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMchaleureuxjolie décoration, ambiance chaleureuse, excellente cuisine, plats généreux5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMJust a little too dark insideJust a little too dark inside the restaurant, otherwise a wonderful meal.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMChicagoLe Colonial provides a trip to your senses by providing atmosphere, delectable flavors and superior service5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMUnbelievableA wonderful experience all around. Great space. Food was innovative and just fabulous. Had a difficult time selecting, and we were not disappointed. Service was prompt and very friendly.
A great night!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMTable was small. We were theTable was small. We were the only table that didn't have flowers, and when I asked for them they were supplied. Food was OK. Too much lettuce, pork was dry. The upstairs bar looked like it was Saigon in the 20's. Very cool.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh products, light, good simple lI love this spot..a real Vietnamese food made with fresh product, simple recipe.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMNeighborhood GemI found this wonderful restaurant when I lived in Chicago 15 years ago. For the last 14 years, I have lived in Michigan. Every time my husband and I return to Chicago to visit, we ALWAYS make it a point to eat at Le Colonial. It is our favorite restaurant in all the world. Now that we have 2 children, we even bring them, and they love it! It's not a restaurant great for kids, but with ipads and smartphones, it helps everyone else eat in peace after they're done. Unique combination of flavors, beautiful presentation, and excellent ambience. Don't forget dessert!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for vegans and omnivoresHard to go wrong with Le Colonial. As a vegan who regularly eats out with friends from all over the dietary spectrum, I'm always on the lookout for places with something for everyone. The food here is delicious and beautifully presented, and the decor and ambiance feel a bit like going back in time. The restaurant is very elegant without being fussy. It's lovely for dinner but I'd also recommend it for lunch, when things are much quieter and you can sink into the atmosphere a bit more.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMA classicI use to be a regular at this restaurant several years ago and gradually stopped to try all of the new hot spots. After my perfect dinning experience, it is back on my list of "must" haves.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappointsThis is truly a gem of a place. I have enjoyed it as both a business entertainment destination for clients who want to have sligthtly more creative dinner option and also go their for a romantic special evening. The food is consistently spectacular and the service is great. Easy to navigate the menu with slight nudges from the staff. Makes French Vietnamese food very accessible and easy to enjoy its glory. Have been there 7 or 7 times and everyone has always walked away glowing from a slightly more adventurous and extremely tasty night out. No doubt, will be back again and again.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMmemorable experienceLe Colonial is a charming spot with interesting food, great ambiance and service. Everything we ordered was delicious--try the sugar cane shrimp appetizer! We look forward to returning for another memorable dining experience.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful RestaurantThe food was exquisite! I will caution you that when the server tells you that a dish is spicy, what they mean is that it´s very spicy. We love spicy food and we have a saying at our house when we make a very spicy dish - "we can´t make this dish for company." Some of the dishes we had fell into that category. The good news is that they have a wide and varied menu that will satisfy anyones tastes.
The Summer Rolls at Le Colonial were the best we had ever had. I also recommend you try the Pho. Pho is a traditional Vietnamese soup made with a hearty broth and rice noodles. But save your appetite for the main courses, especially the sea food.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect evening! We had spent the evening before at the Purple Pig and honestly thought that there was no way that could be topped. We were wrong! The perfect blend of Asian (Vietnamese) and European (French) that we love! Perfect place to spend our 5-year anniversary.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent special birthday cakeexcellent experience food wonderful waiter pleasant . special birthday dessert with candle. will dine there again5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely restaurant, livelyLovely restaurant, lively food and fun to go to. Upstairs bar is a romantic setting for two.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMQuiet relaxing spot (NO backgroundQuiet relaxing spot (NO background music or TV's, even in the bar) with good food that seems both familiar and different - more Asian than French. Good for a romantic evening. Food is fresh and well prepared - some other commentators have said portions seem small - we had plenty to eat. Emphasis on seafood dishes. Nice wine list although a bit on the pricy side. Will go again.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMService and food was impeccable!Service and food was impeccable! I'm so glad that I found this place, even better when I requested a reservation the same day. A must go to.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacular food, excellentSpectacular food, excellent staff, perfect surroundings, could not have asked for anything else.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBooking was a breeze usingBooking was a breeze using Open Table. I needed to make a date change and that was no problem. We arrived at Le Colonial for an early dinner before a play. The neighborhood was charming, and we were seated at a corner table so we each had a view of the lovely room. Our waiter was very helpful when we asked about amount of food, and wanted to share the most traditionally Vietnamese food. ...a delicious spicy beef salad, veggie rolls, and a trout with vermicelli, cocoanut milk, cooked in a banana leaf that was fabulous. Also each had dessert which put us nearly over the edge but it was delicious.....cocoanut macaroon with cocoanut sorbet substituted for vanilla ice cream. It was a find!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMEclectic and delicious foodI took a friend to Le Colonial for her birthday, and she said it was one of the greatest experiences she had in a while. The wine selection is good, but the food was surprisingly eclectic and delicious. I will definitely go back for special occasions.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMNever a disappointment whenNever a disappointment when I am visiting Chicago.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of my favorite places. One of my favorite places. It lived up to all of my memories.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe atmosphere was elegantThe atmosphere was elegant and personal for this type of dinning experience. Our service was exceptional and old world. Our needs were anticipated and we felt our service was unobtrusive.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA Hidden GemOne of the most romantic restaurants in Chicago! Second visit here for great food, relied on sugestions from the bartender and wait staff for their favorites, great vibe and decor. Go early and enjoy the upstairs bar before dinning. Le Colonial has made my favorite places list.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMLe Colonial has consistentlyLe Colonial has consistently been a treat whenever I am in Chicago.
The quality and presentations of the menu items are always top-notch.
It also has a intimate feel without being stuffy and pretentious.
All of this is is delivered without breaking the bank.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMTony is a fabulous host. TheTony is a fabulous host. The only restaurant in Chicago to which we return regularly is Le Colonial. It is always special and makes us feel like we are on vacation; the food is excellent and the service is lovely.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMOur favorite restaurant in ChicagoThis is our favorite restaurant in Chicago and the maitre'd is one of the reasons. Raphael seems to know all of his clients personally and greets them by name. He checks by to see how each diner is doing. I cannot say enough good things about him. The food is great. It's fusion French/Vietnamese and no matter what we try on the menu, we are always delighted.
Thank you Raphael for always making this so special!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent for the palate..The food here will not disappoint , I was truly satisfied with every dish we ordered. I will be going back!!4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved the ambiance--veryI loved the ambiance--very chi-chi. Four of us had lunch and my dish was absolutely delicious. The others said theirs was fine. I believe it depends on what is ordered. I won!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was delicious - someThe food was delicious - some plates were a little bland. However everything was fresh and the ingredients were of very high quality. My only complaint is I feel dishes were over-priced for the portions.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMYumAlways a pleasure to visit an "old friend" like Le Colonial. This visit I had the beef pho and it was absolutely divine. Good tasting, fresh and wonderfully prepared French Vietnamese with top shelf service. What more could you ask for?4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWhenever I am in Chicago,Whenever I am in Chicago, I try to get in to Le Colonial. They accommodated a group of 8 and we passed dishes family style so that we could try all the delicous dishes. Great wine selection too. I highly recommend this place. Love that Raphael is still there as the welcoming host.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMRomanceGreat special occasion spot. Food & drinks were amazing. Tip: sit on the upstairs patio if you can. It's enclosed but has a view of The city.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious!!Went here before going to see Book of Mormon (5:30 reservation gave us enough time to cab it down to the theater and still enjoy a leisurely dinner). Our service was impeccable, and the food was absolutely delicious! We shared a shrimp spring roll and bowl of pho, my husband had the basil chicken dish and I had the seafood bouillabaisse dish - all we would get again. We finished off our meal with the banana tapioca pudding and chocolate torte, the latter was one of the best I've had. Never had an empty water glass, and the waiter never pushed us or appeared unless we needed or wanted him. We had a pricey dinner tab, but it was well worth every bit and we will definitely go back next time we're in Chicago!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Romance in the CityThis is my hands down favorite romantic meal in the city in addition to a great place to bring my parents. The whole fish and curries are my favorite dishes, but everything is excellent as they have perfected every sauce. They have an excellent bar in addition to their food, the Lychee sangria might be my favorite cocktail ever.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food....tasteless martinisGreat Food, Great service....but their martinis are just tasteless.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
