A word from Le Colonial - Chicago
Le Colonial transports guests to another time and place, vividly recapturing the beauty, romance and spirit of 1920's French-Colonial Southeast Asia. Le Colonial invigorates the senses with exquisite décor and savory authentic Vietnamese cuisine. The first floor dining room is adorned with louvered shutters, woven rattan chairs, potted palms, slow-moving ceiling fans and nostalgic black and white photos of turn-of-the century life in Saigon. The upstairs lounge includes a spacious, fully stocked mahogany bar, plush couches for enjoying light fare, and a veranda, for keeping warm in winter and cool in summer. Complete with unique, delicately prepared Vietnamese cuisine, Le Colonial is the perfect setting for an after-work social or a romantic evening for two.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I usually do not repeat a restaurant whenI travel, but made an exception this trip. After enjoying the dinner menu on Friday evening, returned for brunch on Sunday and was equally impressed. Will return on my next visit to Chicago."

  • "This place is wonderful! My wife is vegetarian (not vegan) and I am an alpha carnivore. We love new experiences and food. And Le Colonial makes this happen. Their menu is amazing (French Vietnamese) Their drinks and wine selection are fantastic. They have a separate vegetarian menu so they can actually cater to my wife's dining rather than offer a couple of salads and some cheese plates and call it a day. I cannot say enough good about Le Colonial. We have dined here several times now and every time the food, the service and the atmosphere is amazing. This is a great date night restaurant. Don't blow it by bringing your kids. Just enjoy the night."

  • "What a wonderful dinner! I especially enjoyed the shrimp with light curry. It was outstanding and I would order it again! Our waiter was very helpful with his recommendations."

  • "Chicago is known for lots of outstanding restaurants and this is one that is in that category. Knowledgable and attentive waitstaff, great menu options, good for sharing."

  • "It was a running joke that food in Chicago was either deep dish pizza or sliders so walking into Le Colonial was like seeing an oasis of real food in a culinary desert. We absolutely loved the flavors of every dish we ordered. The menu was beautiful with too many great options. The service was friendly and warm and professional and the venue is absolutely beautiful."

  • "We have been there 3 times for lunch and loved it. The service and food were excellent and it's a beautiful little restaurant. The soups, salads and entrees all sound so wonderful....it is usually very hard for us to decide. We often share several choices."

  • "The entire staff was attentive, friendly and very professional. We had beignets as an appetizer and then the trout wrapped in a banana leaf and the chicken curry as entrees. All we're outstanding and distinctly different from the great Italian and steak restaurant allmthru Chicago. Our server was "on point" and very friendly. Overall a great experience!"

  • "I've never been to any other Le Colonial before and the place really surprised me. Beginning with the interior decoration (that helps you get into the mood) and finishing with desert, I can't say I didn't felt overwhelmed. Maybe the service gets a little bit slow when they are full, but in general I would not only recommend but I'm already planning my next visit. The appetizers were terrific, the main course was excellent and the desert was delicious. I really loved to taste the French Vietnamese cuisine and it's exquisite delicacy."

  • "My group of 11 gave rave reviews for Le Colonial. We had a round table for our party! The service and food was outstanding. Our waiter was Nick and we loved his attention."

  • "I ordered the duck and I was told it was cooked all the way through with a crispy skin, but still was dry and had no flavor at all. Only way to enjoy it would be.to complete soak it in the sauce which was delicious. The chicken and mint in a spring roll wasnt good.. too much mint not enough chicken. Our server was amazing though. Very knowledgeable in explaining each dish for new customers such as us. Service was great just wish the food was better. I was told i wouldnt be charged for the duck because i didnt eat it but I was charged. Kind of a bummer."

  • "This was a solid Vietnamese restaraunt but not a notable French influence. Also, the decor was terrible. It was literally like eating in a hollister clothing store. Good food, service and atmosphere need a tune up. And stop calling it a "fusion" restaraunt. It's not."

  • "Took some friends out and everything was great. The spring rolls are fantastic if you make it a lettuce wrap. They adjusted all the drinks to be less sweet."

  • "We had fantastic service and the food could not have been better. A little pricey but totally worth it."

  • "I would recommend this restaurant for a nice week day meal. The food was very good, although a bit pricy for what you get. The service, however, was very poor. On a week day evening, it's probably not as crowded and might be better. We sat down at our table 45 minutes after my reservation time and we were ignored for long periods of time."

  • "I wish it was lit brighter. Many including us struggled to read the menu. Food and service were excellent."

  • "Service was good, around but let you have your space. Food was different in a good way and delicious. Great spot for a fun romantic dinner"

  • "All the good words to describe Le Colonial seemed to have been already used, so all I can say is Superb! in all respects. Food! Serviice and ambience!"

  • "This dining experience goes down as my #1 so far in my nearly 61 years. Everything was top notch and absolutely perfect when it came to the table. The flavors were distinct yet blended. There were no seasonings on the table and for good reason...none were needed. All four in our party were in agreement that Le Colonial will be a "MUST" on all subsequent visits to Chicago! I HIGHLY recommend this dining experience."

  • "Loved Le Colonial. I am a vegetarian, and they have a separate vegetarian, as well as gluten free menu. Great atmosphere. Staff was very knowlegeable and attentive. Prices reasonalbe, especially considering that restaurant is located in the Gold Coast area of Chicago. Cost my husband and I just over $100, and we each got a drink, appetizer, meal and dessert and coffee."

  • "We love celebrating special occasions at Le Colonial. The setting and ambiance are elegant, romantic, and a smidge mysterious like a venue in a great book. The food-ah! So tasty. And the service is top notch."

  • "We had a wonderful meal at Le Colonial, which specializes in elegant Vietnamese fare. Accompanied by a creative cocktail menu, the seafood entrees (a Vietnamese style bouillabaisse was well worth the price and effort), poultry, and meat dishes all were both beautiful and delicious. The service was attentive without being overbearing. A delightful evening!"

  • "We had had a group of six and tried everything from the rib appetizer, chicken fried rice, shrimp, duck, cellphone noodles & chilean sea bass. All were large portions and delicious."

  • "We have been going here since it openned 18 years ago and it has always been excellent. It is even better than it's VERY good sister restuarant in New York City."

  • "We come to Le Colonial on average of one a month maybe twice a month in the summer to sit outside. The food is always wonderful and the servers are fantastic. What I don't understand is the attitudes of the hosts at the front. The host never recognizes us even tho it's been years that we have been coming. Last week, we came in 10 minutes earlier and he said, "Just go upstairs, I need a few minutes......" and completely dismissed us. Which I thought was kind of rude. It's such a shame because we know it's always going to be a challenge when we first arrive but once we're seated the food is wonderful. They should just get rid of the 2 male hosts in front with the arrogant attitudes. They really just kill the mood."

  • "Love the 1920's French Viet decor! The food is good. The thai beef salad, delish, as is the shrimp. Lovely decadent chocolate mousse cake."

  • "Having not been to Le Colonial for a long time, this was a reminder of what a beautiful restaurant it is. The food was outstanding - everything we chose was delicious. The staff was knowledgeable and made it obvious they were there to please their customers. In all - it was a wonderful evening - we will not wait so long to go back!"

  • "A good friend recommended Le Colonial to us for our trip to Chicago. It was exquisite. Our service was fantastic and the food was out of this world. We'll be back!!!"

  • "This restaurant's ambience is very cool. It's different than most of the new restaurants in the city that have seemed to have gone with the dark, masculine feel. This restaurant is very romantic! For appetizers we had Pho soup (great), tuna tartare (amazing), vegetable spring rolls (good & very fresh tasting). The entrees were less noteworthy. My boyfriend had the ginger duck. I am not a huge fan of duck, so I'm a bit biased, but I thought it was just "okay". I had a cubed beef dish that was good, but nothing to write home about. We will definitely be back for the ambience, service, and the food... we will just try different entrees!"

  • "I'm not particularly a huge fan of French food, but this French-Vietnamese fusion concept is absolutely amazing! Every dish I tried was outstanding. I liked the coconut curry bouillabaisse and the spring roll appetizer the best. Highly recommend Le Colonial for date nights and client dinners."
