Diner Reviews
  • "First trip to New York here to celebrate my birthday. Ambiance and neighborhood is phenominal! Major disappointment and reason for fair rating is our server. I always like to ask what do you recommend as an appetizer or main course. We got minimal input and was advised things like, we tried all of them but i don't remember. We finally decided on an appetizer and when asked if we liked it, we said yes. The response we got back was, well i've never had that because it's so expensive. Not the thing to say! I had the New York Strip & unfortunately the pepper was way too overpowering. Overall the ambiance is fantastic, but disappointed in the service. Have a drink at the bar here and go next door for dinner is my advice."

  • "The Food was very good but the portions are a bit too small for what you pay !"

  • "I have nothing negative to say about this restaurant. Unfortunately, it was almost empty, and that put a damper on the dining experience. The food and service were fine, but at that expense, all should be wonderful.. It's not the fault of the restaurant. I hope they fill up again. It was a Wednesday evening."

  • "Like a 1 hour vacation. You will never forget the experience. Food and service were exceptional. We mentioned smoked salmon in a conversation, and in 5 minutes the off menu item was at the table. The cocktails complimented the food beautifully, and the bold coffee ended the meal in perfection. The time at Le Cirque was a great break from fast paced life in NYC."

  • "The food was disappointing; several dishes were barely warm, flavoring was bland. The mixture of Asian flavoring into dishes made the chicken very salt with the excessive ginger added. Considering the cost, it was most disappointing. I try and visit Le Cirque at least once a year. It will be a while before I return or recommend."

  • "This place was amazing. I proposed to my girlfriend there and she loved it. The staff is respectable everything is just beautiful. I loved how the The waiters were so on top of things they never left our table empty. I can't wait to bring her here again for our anniversary"

  • "I've dined here several times, both Restaurant Week and "regular" menus. The quality of service used to be great, just as the food. However, this year they decided to downgrade RW diners to a second tier, pushing customers to the cafe instead of the main dining room. The result was horrible. Service was extremely poor, to the extent that I had to ask for water (more than once which is unacceptable at a restaurant of that level). After the appetizer, it took them 35 LONG minutes to bring the main course, and no apologies whatsoever (plate was salmon, nothing that requires that long to be prepared anyway). Food was good but the quality of service (lack thereof, I should say), was a major disappointment and embarrassed me in front of my guest."

  • "We were so impressed with the restaurant in Vegas I thought it was a good idea for a business lunch. It happened to be during restaurant week an the menu appeared interesting. Not only was the food prepared poorly there was not enough to feed the 3 small women I took with me. The gnocchi appetizer was literally 6 small gnocchi and 3 minuscule shrimp. The cannelloni beans were very hard and the desserts(except for the creme brûlée) lacked any taste. I will never go there again. Stick to jean George's where the feed you And treat you like you are people."

  • "Other than going to Le Cirque just to say you've been to Le Cirque, there's really no reason to go here. The food was good not great. And the portions were incredibly tiny. The risotto seemed more like Uncle Ben's and lacked flavor. While the hake was good. The restaurant had a nice ambiance but we left feeling under fed and under satisfied."

  • "We had a gift certificate so we went for dinner. Our servers were nice, but there were times I sat with any empty water glass (dont like that). The food was good but there was nothing memorable. Appetizers were good. We had the chateaubriand for 2. The meat was fine but the vegetables that came with it were not great. I tried the "stove cake". While it looked cute, the cake was not great... Within 2 hours of our meal I could tell the maitre d' was trying to get us out. We were even given our check without asking for it. We have dined at some of the to NYC restaurants, and we are used to being treated better and eating better food. I am glad I had a gift card and only had to pay for a small portion of our meal!"

  • "Perhaps the "classics" at this legendary Manhattan eatery have not aged well or maybe they just don't care anymore. Either way, the mediocre food is not worth the fine-dining price tag. If you're looking for an unforgettable, top-notch dining experience in New York and are willing to pay for it, you will be better served going somewhere else. If those places are booked, I wouldn't even go to Le Cirque as a last resort. You will leave with a much lighter wallet and a very disappointed palette."

  • "Le cirque is a simply beautiful restaurant, a perfect place to celebrate special occasions, or have an elegant luncheon with friends. The ambiance will not disappoint. I met with friends for a Restaurant Week luncheon. The service appears to be "white glove", however inexperienced, or non English speaking . The waiter was hard to find and did not come around to inquire if we wanted more coffee or needed anything. When the bus boys were asked, they simply did not bring what we needed, nor did they get the waiter to assist us. The food was not particularly special. Portions were quite small, although everything was well presented. We did enjoy the leisurely time spent there and we were never rushed."

  • "How wonderful! We decided to go to Le Cirque for the first time during RW. The food was out of this world and the experience was more grand than I imagined. We will surely return while on a night on the town."

  • "Appetizer of gnocchi and shrimp was tepid. It should have been hot. The gnocchi had no flavor. The dish was rescued by a delicious sauce. One of the main courses, pressed chicken, was very good. However, the tiny serving of vegetables was tepid. The main course of hake was also flavorless but was again rescued by a delicious sauce. The desserts, one of which required a supplement, were excellent. A moderately priced wine-by-the glass would be appropriate for restaurant week. Eight dollars for a glass of iced tea is overpriced. The service was excellent, professional, helpful, and polite. We went towards the end of normal lunch hour and were able to dine in a relaxed manner."

  • "It is upscale but not uptight. Very relaxing from the beginning until when the moment you put down your fork the waiter's hand immediately reached over and grep the plate away which made you think he might have been standing behind you all along. I thought could he just wait until I had swallowed my last bite and leaned back before taking the plate away?"

  • "There for Restaurant Week- always a lovely meal, great service and unlike many of the other restaurants That participate in this event and skimp on the food offered, Le Cirque maintains there high standard."

  • "I'm always happy with their service. they are very attentive and they make you feel comfortable. The food is good. I had the foie gra and lobster salad was all right. My neice and her boyfriend had the restaurant week lunch menu. She had the pressed chicken bland and her gnocchi was good and her boyfriend had pork belly and truffle risotto both was good. We all enjoyed our dining experience."

  • "This is the second time I dine here. the first time was perfect and thats why I came back, but this time was a dissapointment..maybe because of restaurant week, the service were quite lousy...the waiters were not friendly...it seems like they weren't passionate about their job..I didn't enjoy it a bit...the food was good but service was terrible.. I have to give it a thumbs down."

  • "Enjoyed our meal...food was delious! Service left a lot to be desired... Restaurant was not busy in dining room. We sat down and when we told them it was 4 restaurant week They said one moment. I asked is it a problem and they said we usually seat 4 restaurant Week in Cafe. Put us off alittle!"

  • "Ambience, and food were excellent. Service for this high end reastaurant was poor to fair. Upon arrival we were asked to wait for rest of party, which is okay, but were not asked if we wanted a drink. Not once during the evening was our water glass nor the bread basket refilled, without our having to ask. Initially, when seated we were asked for a drink order, one person was totally forgotten, and her order never taken. Had to ask initially for our order to be taken. Before desert, our table started to be cleared before one in the party had yet to finish. Just a bad experience."

  • "This was our second time to dine in le cirque for restaurant week. First time was last summer and it was a good experience that's why we were looking forward to coming back. so here we are with high expectations and excitement. The moment that we walked in we already sensed rudeness, no hello, no smiles, they were just talking to each other and finally took our coats. The server couldnt give us more info about the menu other than what was already written and with an irriated tone. The food wasnt fresh and the taste either too salty for bland. And you can sense that they were kinda hurrying us up. Not worth the $25 or $38 for the bad service and the so so food. They'll lose all their glamour and reputation soon if they keep up with this."

  • "I went to Le Cirque for lunch with two friends. We opted for the Restaurant Week Menu and I am glad we did so, otherwise it would have been a greater waste of money. For appetizer, I had the gnocchi which was salty and greasy. My friends had the chestnut soup which was too sweet. Both the soup and the gnocchi were cold. My main dish was salmon (uninteresting and uninspiring) and beans (undercooked). It was cold too. We tried the three desserts, which was the best part of the menu but that does not tell much in view of how poor the rest was. The waiter was pretentious and uncooperative."

  • "Last July my husband took me to Le Cirque in Las Vegas on my birthday. It was magnificent and unforgettable on every level. So, I chose Le Cirque, NYC for a special dinner with 4 of our friends, expecting a similar evening. It was very pretty and we got a cordial greeting. The bartender was efficient, but not really friendly. We had a lovely table for dinner but the food was pretty unremarkable with some portions ridiculously small. My husband's strip steak was "unadorned" and not really good, though the price was very high. Le Cirque salad was disappointing-nothing special ( though pretty) and dressing was to sparse. Our waiter was very nice and easy going, yet attentive. Had hoped for fabulous -Ordinary meal for an extraordinary price."

  • "My wife and I were looking forward to our first visit to Le Cirque, but ended up being disappointed by the food. My appetizer came without its sauce, which was brought separately by a waiter while I was half way through the dish. We returned a fish entree (confit of salmon) that was tasteless. The Merlu, that my wife got as a replacement was not very appealing either. Important to note that we were not charged for my wife's entree and we got a compensation of a dessert. So the service was very good, but the rest was much less than we expected.... I don't think we'll be going back to Le Cirque."

  • "I've been hearing great things about this restaurant and it was a good decision that I did try this gem! Offhand however, the guy host wasn't very effective and didn't give me proper instructions about waiting (as the entire party was not yet ready). I ended up lost at the front/entrance. Upscale restaurants do not generally let the guests wait for the party to be complete and I expected the same for this restaurant thinking that it is upscale. Apparently not very upscale in this respect. It would have been fine if he had given me proper instructions on where to wait so that I didn't have to awkwardly stand by the entrance waiting for his return. But the service and food were amazing! I wanted to say more-no more space."

  • "Bread and butter was cold/hard. Main dish was okay, but not the level you expect from le cirque's level. Deserts was a disaster!!! Seriously, we were not able to finish them. And I noticed lots of other guests were leaving without finishing theirs. Come on! It's Le Cirque. It is just really hard to make it go wrong with ice cream and creme buree! It was worst ny restaurant week experience of last 6 years and I wonder if the food was same in the 'other' room."

  • "With such an immense legend behind it, Le Cirque did not disappoint in reality. It was all I had imagined and more...the whole package. I'd like to say it is where I belong, but, in truth, I must reserve this treat for very special occasions. But I hope the next time is soon!"
