  • "First, everybody loves this well-known historical building in center-city Philadelphia. Then, you are always nicely greeted, and you can enjoy the outdoor seating in the beautiful and quiet garden, as pretty during day time as at night. However, the main attraction is the cuisine, which is French cuisine like in France, such authenticity is rather rare around here. Service is friendy and professional, not pompous. Nothing is pretentious, but everything is meant to make you feel comfortable and happy. So, bon appétit to you!"

Food was outstanding as was the service.The Art Alliance is a terrific building in which to house the restuarant.Did not eat in the garden but it looked terrific.Small menu but very interesting.Food was quite elegant and service was outstanding.Recently ate at Bibou which is owned by the same couple and is also excellent.The two menus are very similar and it might be better if one or the other was a bit different.Maybe a more casual bistro type menu at Le Cheri."

  • "The food is the best in Philadelphia. One of the individuals eating with me - this was a business lunch - stopped twice to comment on how good the food was. The use of the outdoor area, which is not right on the street but is secluded by a metal fence, is particularly pleasant. Mme. Charlotte Calmels runs the front of the restaurant as well as anyone in Philadelphia. The wine list is not overpriced but in addition, for a small corkage fee, one can bring one's own. Pierre Calmels clearly does duck better than anyone in Philadelphia."

  • "Unlike Parc and Rouge nearby, le Cheri is more intimate and quiet. I took my girlfriends there to celebrate a bride-to-be and we sat the courtyard. It was a sunny and warm day but the courtyard is well-covered with umbrellas. Food-wise, it was just the right proportions and very good. We only had light fare, we had appetizer shrimp salad and chilled artichoke soup, and the entree of mussels that we shared. Service was very attentive. I would like to go back for dinner! If you're vegetarian or vegan, there are not a lot of options other than salads."

  • "Le Cheri is a quaint little French restaurant run by LeBec Fin alumni. Very intimate with a nice patio if you like outdoor dining. The food is very good. I had the escargot with hazelnut app which was a nice change from the usual way. My wife had the lyonaise salad which she loved at LeBec. She loved it just as much here. I had the halibut entree which was nicely seasoned & perfectly cooked. My wife had the veal. The menu says medallions but it is more like a veal steak. It was a little undercooked. Easily fixed. The wine list is all French with some nice selections & very reasonably priced. Service was excellent. We will be going back."

  • "We fine dined and enjoyed the meal. Steak tartare was plentiful and delicious. Odd to pair with potato chips but went with it. Terrine was good as well. The lamb and veal meals were well presented. Wines by the glass were not on the menu but on a center table to be observed and chosen. This is not a Bibou unfortunately. With so many good restaurants around the Square, they are going to have to add more Staff. Our poor waiter had six tables to himself in the back room. We found the meal to be unnecessarily dragged out because he was running around trying to serve all of the other tables. Will wait before going back to see if they can make a go of it. Not as hard to get a reservation as Bibou."

  • "This is my second visit to Le Cheri, and this one was just as fabulous as the first! Food was spectacular, service was attentive without hovering, lovely ambience - just a wonderful evening. And, once again, our server Melanie was very pleasant, knowledgeable about the menu, and had great wine suggestions. We will be returning again!"

  • "As one might expect from the owner-chef of Bibou, the fabulous French bistro on S. 8th St., Le Cherie is absolutely superb in every way. Charlotte Calmel's decorative scheme is gorgeous and her husband Pierre's authentic French cuisine is sophisticated and as appealing to the eye as to the palate. For an unforgettable dining experience the outdoor shaded patio (available on first come, first seated basis) is an elegant setting for this superb cuisine. The area is filled with growing plants, bushes and vines clinging to a rear wall, tables are placed a comfortable distance from each other and the only sound is from a trickling fountain."

  • " Overall the experience was a disappointment, given the expectations. Service was disjointed. Waitress introduced herself, then we never saw her again. Long wait before anyone asked if we wanted a drink while we selected our meals. Felt like an afterthought while the wait staff concentrated on the outdoor patio. Waiter recommended a fish that was not on the menu. If inside be aware that nearby tables will overhear your conversation. Braised pork over noodles was ok; nothing special. My companion's veal medallion was very tasty, but wasn't a medallion--more of a log. Very limited wine by the glass, but what they offered was very good. Nice wine list. I will give it another try, but for time being wonder what all the fuss is about."

  • "A friend and I had lunch on the terrace. The setting was lovely, a little oasis on a hot day. It was quite sunny, but we were shaded by a tree. We both had salads, I, la salade aux crevettes, my friend, la salade nicoise. They were delicate, delicious and beautifully presented. The service was attentive but not overbearing, and we could stay as long as we wanted. The restaurant lives up to its reputation."

  • "My daughter and I love classic French food so we were excited to try this restaurant. It did not disappoint. We ate on the patio which was lovely. The service was outstanding. I had an excellent salad and steak. My daughter had the salmon appetizer and the special that night, quail stuffed with foie gras. All the courses were wonderful. The price point could not be beat. I hope to return and highly recommend if you are looking for a first class food experience in downtown Philly."

  • "The menu was very very limited and "fru fru". There wasn't even a normal salad. When i asked for a mixed green salad with the frisee from the lardon salad it came with none. It was also extremely tiny and i had to ask for the frisee again. The steak was ok but i had to order a green vegetable because it only came with potatoes. It has possibilities but they really need to add some more universally popular items for regular diners"

  • "This is truly the best restaurant has seen at this venue, despite repeated events. The owner is very hands on and work hard to please all the customers. Food is exquisite, fresh, creative, very French, and good value. The fish quenelle is unbelievably good. The wine list, albeit exclusively French, is both deep and wide and is well orgamized with many gems. And Charlotte, an owner, really knows wines inside out and can make wonderful recommendations. The wine prices are very reasonable. Service needs a little tweaking; the food did not emerge for everyone at the same time, some slowness when we sat down. All can be fixed and with the owners hovering so close, I am sure that it will. Definitely a winner."

The dining room was lovely - great lighting, enough sapce to enjoy privacy but not so quiet that a hearty laugh is out of place - perfect!!! So why only 4 out of 5? Our main server, while well intended, was so hard to understand and had such a limited grasp of English that I am sure we missed things. Regardless, my soft shell crab was glorious and saddle of rabbit perfect with the flight of rose wines that were offered that evening. Too full for dessert (portions are generous!) so will have to try to save room next time. We will come back and revel in wonderful cooking and beautiful setting as we hope for better service."

  • "I had dined at Le Cherie for dinner three times previously, all outstanding experiences. I meet my daughter for lunch every 5 or 6 weeks in center city where she works, so I took her to Le Cherie for lunch. We dined on the soft shell crab special and she had the chocolate tart and I the peach melba for dessert. It was also the first time I sat in the outdoor garden to dine. Everything was perfect. Le Cherie provides an escape to a time when graceful dining was the norm at upscale dining places. It is simply the standard in a town where the restaurant scene is as vibrant as New York at more reasonable prices."

  • "We enjoyed Paris Bistro very much. The ambiance is reminiscent of a real Paris Bistro which is not easy to do anywhere out of France. Excellent wine at a good price along with an interesting and well cooked menu. We were there on the early side so the noise level was calm and pleasant but as the night continued it became rather loud. Clearly people were enjoying themselves and having fun but it became harder to hear the person opposite. Our waitress was attentive and very nice."

  • "We went for a very early dinner on a Friday night.Professional & friendly greeting from the Host. Service was top-notch, too. But what blew us away was the exacting approach to classical French Cuisine. A lot of love, pride and effort went into preparing our meal. We sat in their rear patio and the weather was perfect. Very interesting wine list focusing on terrior driven wines, many from lesser known Chateaus and heirloom grapes. Reasonable mark ups on the wines. Just when we thought this to be one of those rare, perfect meals…Charlotte wanders over and introduces herself at our table. She is absolutely charming and carries herself like the confident, French woman she is. That dinner was my best dinning experience in the past 5 years."

  • "I would categorize the food as pretentious French. The quail was bland, the bread ordinary and the profiteroles topped with what tasted like Hershey syrup. The appetizers arrived before the wine and we received the wrong check. Don't mind paying nearly $100 apiece for an exceptional meal, but this clearly was not. We were very disappointed based on glowing newspaper reviews."
