We had a wonderful experience at le Cheri. There were 5 of us there for dinner and one plate was better than the next. Highlights were the vol au vent appetizer, the striped bass, the warm brownie/salted caramel ice cream and the special mango passion fruit soufflé desserts. The service was super attentive and not over bearing. Our meal was very relaxed. I would highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be back!

We've visited Bibou and now Le Cheri and both are fabulous. French cuisine masterfully presented with sophistication and spirit. Cassoulet, Boeuf Bourguignonne were outstanding. The dining room is charming and intimate....be prepared for lively conversation all around because the room has a vibrant energy.

  • Very good food, disappointing service
    OpenTable Diner Since 2014

Le Chéri is a nice restaurant that serves very good food and wine. It is nowhere near Michelin star quality, but we were nevertheless very happy with the food, the pace of the meal, as well as our table next to the window, with a romantic view onto the little courtyard decorated with fairy lights. A major criticism is the service, which was simply not pleasant. We were randomly served by several waiters and waitresses, and the experience was rather hectic. The lady who I assume was our head waitress seemed annoyed, rattled down the specials as if doing us a favour, and did not crack a smile for the entire evening. Our bottle of wine, which we ordered to have with our meal, was opened before we received our glass of champagne that we ordered for apéritif. Many more small inconsistencies throughout the evening accumulated to a feeling of having been served by college students in a diner rather than professional waiters. The management of Le Chéri should consider this, as service such as theirs will disappoint their customers and prevent them from returning. A restaurant which clearly tries to sell itself as noble and elegant can not afford such hickups. Again, the food was very nice and we had a great evening, but the feeling that lingers is that Le Chéri is playing at being more than it truly is.

I am so glad Le Cheri now serves lunch. There is a dearth of fine dining spots for lunch. Our meals were fantastic. Especially wonderful were the oysters that brought a delicate taste of ocean and the lamb that tasted like no lamb I've ever had before. Felt like we were out for dinner.

We can always count on a wonderful dining experience at Le Cheri and Sunday evening last was no exception. We were accompanied by friends, their first visit to Le Cheri. They were won over by the perfect onion soup, superb quenelles, and outstanding stuffed ravioli. A ris de veau (with duck substituting for the veal) was terrific, as was the boeuf bourgnigon and pate. The Lafitte Medoc was a fine accompaniment, and desserts (souffle and tarte tatin) were delectable. The surroundings were elegant, service attentive and friendly as usual.

I was so happy to see that one of my favorite chef's opened a restaurant in one of my favorite buildings! This was our first venture to Le Cheri and we weren't disappointed. The prices are quite reasonable in the mid to high 20's per entree with a terrifically priced wine list (all french) with most under $50 a bottle. I started with the escargot and my husband with the pate. I had the special dover sole, which was superlative and my husband had the cassoulet. We shared the creme brulee for dessert. It was a classic french dinner. The only sour note was the table to my right. There were three women, who seemed to insist everyone in the room hear their entire conversation. We didn't allow them to overshadow the wonderful food.

Are they trying to put Air France out of business? i had the quenelles, they were a tribute to traditional French cooking. A revelation for the test buds that has been haunting me for days. The foie gras app was like butter, the wine list was easy to navigate and loaded with affordable French gems, the service attentive and genial. cannot wait to return for the cassoulet.

We chose this restaurant based on some of the rather good reviews. Unfortunately we were disappointed with the limited menu (with such a limited menu you would've expected outstanding tems). We started our evening at the bar and were extremely satisfied with the offerings and service at the bar. Seated the tables are practically on top of each other so it was very difficult to have a conversation. The quail carved tableside was carved three tables away due to the cramped space. While the menus are limited, it was interesting to find that they were reprinted and the backside of the menu was from July. I would've much more enjoyed the offerings from July then I did from the offerings available The evening we dined. Service was poor.

Our server was nice and made sure we had what we needed, she hoovered a little but that might have been because the restaurant was quiet when we got there (6pm Friday dinner). Support staff was excellent - knowledgeable and pleasnt. We tried the tartare (excellent), blood sausage (very good, would like to see more boudin noir even if at a higher price), and foie (very good) for our starters. For our mains we did the Quenelle (Excellent, exceeded my expectations. Loved dipping baguette in the sauce) and the Beef Bourguignon (nice hearty dish that was enjoyable). For desert we did the brownie (good). Older crowd for sure, we were the youngest there by maybe 20 years. Great spot and would love to try for lunch!

Le Cheri offers a pleasant dining experience. The food is good (but not exceptional) traditional French fare, and the setting is gracious and uncrowded. On the other hand, prices are quite high, and our server was not well informed or helpful--especially with respect to wines. We will not rush back soon, but we would consider going there again.

This was the most outstanding dining experience we have ever had in Philly. Although we were there early on a weekday prior to an early show, they were as prepared with staff and plentiful dining specials as they would be on a busy Saturday. The entire staff was first rate. The meal was outstanding. We enjoyed quail and dover sole which were both specials with table-side service. Both were exquisite. As if our dining experience were not grand enough, the chef came out to shake our hands, inquiring how we enjoyed the food and thanking us for being there. He was genuinely kind and charming. This will be our first destination the next time we're in Philadelphia. I think we'll spend the night there and skip the show.

I came to Le Cherie with 5 young women, most of whom ended up ordering very little. Despite this fact, the staff couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating. The food was, in proper French tradition, subtile and delicious. The ravioli was beyond compare. The Salade Lyonaise was met with great enthusiasm as was the crab cake. This is a restaurant to which one would do well to return to again and again for the atmosphere, service and exquisite cuisine.

Charlotte and her Husband, who is the chef, are doing an equally wonderful job here as they are at their other location. This is authentic, excellently prepared French fare. The $20 corkage fee is quite reasonable. If you bring a, for example, $30 bottle of wine, plus the $20, you know exactly what your are drinking and are still way under what even a low end bottle would cost from the restaurant. The price point of the dishes is the same as other good restaurants in Philadelphia, but the quality of the preparation and the dishes themselves fare exceed the quality of these other restaurants at the same price. We highly recommend it.

La Cheri is a beautiful restaurant and the service is excellent. After having some of the best cocktails we've ever had at a restaurant's bar, La Parisienne Blonde, and a very special Martini, we proceeded to dinner. We had great expectations for La Cheri, but were sadly disappointed with the food. Starting with Ahi Tuna that did not have any flavor of fennel or of Pernod and was striated with tendons, and bland tasting oysters followed by almost tasteless grouper. However, I did find the hare special to be tender and flavorful.

His can a restaurant be relaxed and informal but also sophisticated at the same time? Le Cheri does exactly that. The wonderful surroundings of the Art Alliance have been wonderfully decorated to provide a fitting stage for Pierre Calmels to serve his Brasserie style menu that is contends with the finest traditional French cooking that you could wish to fine anywhere. In the front of house his charming wife Charlotte conducts operations with a quiet calmness that ensures all your entire dining experience proceeds smoothly and without fuss. She also selected the wine list which us worth a visit in its own right! You will not be dissapponted. Don't save it for special occasions, you will want to go often.

Sometimes I want to dine outdoors and when I do, it's not on 18th Street in Rittenhouse Square where there is no protection from oncoming traffic. My husband and I wouldn't dream of dining on a city pavement without security poles to block a car that's out-of-control! Instead, we reserve a table at Le Cheri in the beautiful, hidden garden just off 18th Street in the magnificent Art Alliance Building. Where else can one dine so well in the splendor of nature and in the midst of the city? And no one in the city is able to serve the crab galette Georges Perrier made famous except Le Cheri. Our lunch and wine was superb as always! Thanks Charlotte, Pierre and staff!

Our party of 6 enjoyed a wonderful experience from the raviole de champignon to the truit (trout) to the crab cakes and on. Presentation and service were A+ and we were made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Lovely dining room and outdoor patio tastefully appointed, but nothing can surpass the simply excellent food. This restaurant ranks with the very best in Philadelphia!!
