Diner Reviews
  • "Felt that service was stuffy-food was awesome -prices relevant to the area -parking not great .Drinks just alright"

  • "Everything we ate and drank was wonderful - beautifully cooked, seasoned and presented. The dining room was lovely - great lighting, enough sapce to enjoy privacy but not so quiet that a hearty laugh is out of place - perfect!!! So why only 4 out of 5? Our main server, while well intended, was so hard to understand and had such a limited grasp of English that I am sure we missed things. Regardless, my soft shell crab was glorious and saddle of rabbit perfect with the flight of rose wines that were offered that evening. Too full for dessert (portions are generous!) so will have to try to save room next time. We will come back and revel in wonderful cooking and beautiful setting as we hope for better service."

  • "My daughter and I love classic French food so we were excited to try this restaurant. It did not disappoint. We ate on the patio which was lovely. The service was outstanding. I had an excellent salad and steak. My daughter had the salmon appetizer and the special that night, quail stuffed with foie gras. All the courses were wonderful. The price point could not be beat. I hope to return and highly recommend if you are looking for a first class food experience in downtown Philly."

  • "An excellent meal from start to finish. I had the duck terrine followed by a quail stuffed with foie gras and mushrooms, baked in a crock with a pastry top. Exquisite flavors, knowledgeable service, and a thoughtful wine list made for a memorable evening."

  • "The menu was very very limited and "fru fru". There wasn't even a normal salad. When i asked for a mixed green salad with the frisee from the lardon salad it came with none. It was also extremely tiny and i had to ask for the frisee again. The steak was ok but i had to order a green vegetable because it only came with potatoes. It has possibilities but they really need to add some more universally popular items for regular diners"

  • "Enjoyed the food, I like the look and the bar was small and inviting. This is a place you can't go wrong."

  • "The food here was fantastic, but I really enjoyed the lovely outdoor space. Very romantic at night! The service was also fantastic. When something I ordered was taking longer than expected, the chef sent over complimentary appetizers. In the end, it was well worth the wait."

  • "We enjoyed Paris Bistro very much. The ambiance is reminiscent of a real Paris Bistro which is not easy to do anywhere out of France. Excellent wine at a good price along with an interesting and well cooked menu. We were there on the early side so the noise level was calm and pleasant but as the night continued it became rather loud. Clearly people were enjoying themselves and having fun but it became harder to hear the person opposite. Our waitress was attentive and very nice."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary last Saturday at Le Cheri and had a wonderful time --- the food was wonderful, as was our server Melanie. Definitely on our list for returning"

  • "The restaurant was fine but what was missing was a French flair. For example. none of the employees that we interfaced with spoke French, very unusual at a French restaurant."

  • "This is truly the best restaurant has seen at this venue, despite repeated events. The owner is very hands on and work hard to please all the customers. Food is exquisite, fresh, creative, very French, and good value. The fish quenelle is unbelievably good. The wine list, albeit exclusively French, is both deep and wide and is well orgamized with many gems. And Charlotte, an owner, really knows wines inside out and can make wonderful recommendations. The wine prices are very reasonable. Service needs a little tweaking; the food did not emerge for everyone at the same time, some slowness when we sat down. All can be fixed and with the owners hovering so close, I am sure that it will. Definitely a winner."

  • "I had dined at Le Cherie for dinner three times previously, all outstanding experiences. I meet my daughter for lunch every 5 or 6 weeks in center city where she works, so I took her to Le Cherie for lunch. We dined on the soft shell crab special and she had the chocolate tart and I the peach melba for dessert. It was also the first time I sat in the outdoor garden to dine. Everything was perfect. Le Cherie provides an escape to a time when graceful dining was the norm at upscale dining places. It is simply the standard in a town where the restaurant scene is as vibrant as New York at more reasonable prices."

  • "A wonderful restaurant if you love classic French food in a beautiful venue. We switched from 4 to 5 and were accommodated. The serving staff needs a little polish."

  • "Everything about the place was special. Beautiful atmosphere, attentive service, delicious food. Chef came to each table. Fois gras, steak tartar, quenelles, all yummy. One slight negative, the egg on the Lyonnaise salad was overcooked. Needed it runny."

  • "We went for a very early dinner on a Friday night.Professional & friendly greeting from the Host. Service was top-notch, too. But what blew us away was the exacting approach to classical French Cuisine. A lot of love, pride and effort went into preparing our meal. We sat in their rear patio and the weather was perfect. Very interesting wine list focusing on terrior driven wines, many from lesser known Chateaus and heirloom grapes. Reasonable mark ups on the wines. Just when we thought this to be one of those rare, perfect meals…Charlotte wanders over and introduces herself at our table. She is absolutely charming and carries herself like the confident, French woman she is. That dinner was my best dinning experience in the past 5 years."

  • "Dinner with friends who live on the square was memorable. We all had different things and they were beautifully prepared and served. I believe that this is the best restaurant in Philadelphia"

  • "I was very pleased with my dinner at Le Cheri. The gnochi were so light they nearly hovered over the plate! My request for a quiet table was noted and fulfilled. The high level of service was unobtrusive. This meal was one of the best I have had and I will certainly return."

  • "Lovely restaurant that I went with my family for Father's Day dinner. Our server was excellent and really knew his stuff. I would definitely take advantage of the daily specials as they are quite tasty and really fresh. Favorite dish of the night was the porks blood sausage---defiantly do not be afraid to try this one out as it was fantastic!"

  • "We are so lucky that this French restaurant opened in the heart of Philadelphia, and in an amazingly beautiful and artistic building. The food is as good as if you were in France. The staff is friendly and competent. Impossible not to return for more to this restaurant."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "I would categorize the food as pretentious French. The quail was bland, the bread ordinary and the profiteroles topped with what tasted like Hershey syrup. The appetizers arrived before the wine and we received the wrong check. Don't mind paying nearly $100 apiece for an exceptional meal, but this clearly was not. We were very disappointed based on glowing newspaper reviews."

  • "We truly enjoy our meals at Le Cheri. The food is consistently great and affordable, the ambience is excellent either indoors or outside, and the serving is stellar. I recommend this restaurant to all my friends."

  • "The terrace is beautiful and quiet! I haven't eaten indoors and so can't comment on that. Thee food as excellent as was the service and prices comparable to all others in the neighborhood"

  • "This was my first visit. The food was delicious and the service was attentive. My sister and I ate outside on a very delightful evening."

  • "Had a wonderful first dinner at Le Cheri! Loved the French classic bistro food and the mostly French wine list that was reasonably priced. Was able to sit in the delightful garden area and enjoy a beautfiul day. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!"

  • "It was a pleasant June evening. We sat near the French doors leading to the garden. I felt as I were in a grand house in the Loire Valley. The menu, and the cooking are incredibly authentic. The wine lis is thoughtfully constructed, both in quality and price. For those who aren't keen on the California "big" in the mouth, 15% alcohol wine, the wine list is a delight with many well balanced wines. The service is attentive without being intrusive. Be warned -- these are French-sized portions. Perfect if you want to eat three or four courses and not walk out stuffed. But those accustomed to slab-it-on-the-plate may be disappointed. The Art Alliance is a historic mansion. Widely spaced tables add to the special event feeling."

  • "Le Cheri is a sister restaurant of Bibou. Great pedigree. It has the typical dishes of French haute cuisine. It does not masquerade to be French unlike some of its neighbors. "

  • "The food was very good. My wife had the ravioli appetizer and the quenelle for the main course, a fish mousse baked in a pastry and served with a lobster sauce. I had cantaloupe soup with mint for an appetizer and the scallops for a main course. They were served with an oatmeal cake and sugar snap peas. For dessert I had cheese and my wife had the strawberries and rum cake also very good. The servers were attentive but not hovering. The space is interesting as it is in the Philadelphia Art Alliance Building on Rittenhouse Square so very convenient for people from out of town."

  • "The food was excellent, right ingredients, cook perfectly, right proportion. The choice of wines was good. The choice of appetizers and main dishes on the menu was perfect for the season I could close my eyes and believe I was visiting home. Diner outside early June no noise no disturbance, heaven. "

  • " Beautiful setting and service. A very limited menu at lunch and dinner. It's difficult to find something you'd want to eat if you're not a fan of unusual, French food. Also, small portions "

  • "After hearing a great deal about Le Cheri, and being frequent travelers to France, we went for dinner. We found the food quite interesting, but the experience suffered from poor service. We had a waiter who apparently was never trained in effective service, interrupting us frequently throughout the meal, did not know the bar/drinks possibilities, brought us the wrong drinks. The experience also was adversely colored by being "sold out" of the market special at 8pm mid-week - demonstrating poor planning and purchasing by the kitchen staff. Charlotte only chatted with a table of friends, evidently, not interesting in ensuring all guests were well taken care of. Pierre was not in evidence at all. Overall, a disappointing experience. "

  • "We went thinking this would be pretty good (we have been to Bibou before) and it wasn't just pretty good - it was incredible! Every single thing about this experience was perfect. The food was as good as any I have eaten anywhere in Philadelphia. Great flavors, perfectly executed. Pierre Calmels deserves to be ranked as one of the top 3 or 4 chefs in Philadelphia - this is Vetri level food. We had the baked fish in the salt crust. OMG - one of the best fish dishes I have ever had the pleasure to eat. And the sides were also amazing and you can tell they take as much time over getting those right too. Service was warm and so friendly - from Charlotte at the front desk to our server Delroy who was great. This will be 4 bells soon!"

  • "It's a wonderful restaurant. I found some of the entrees a little heavy for lunch and the menu a little short on salads, etc. Otherwise terrific to have this great place in the neighborhood."
