Would've rated service 4 but it was an overwhelmingly busy night and you should expect things to take a bit longer on nights like that, and for any lapse, the server made up for it as soon as he could. The restaurant is an old JP Morgan house, so you can't go wrong as far as ambience and old world charm--and we peeked around at some of the other rooms, which was so much fun! But the dinner--chateaubriande perfectly done for two and all that goes with it--was memorable. Perfect Baked Alaska for dessert--where can you even find it these days? Food was plentiful and every dish was beautifully presented and excellently prepared. The food was excellent, we were taken care of well.The escargot were tender and the mustard and herb crusted rack of lambwas perfect. I'm not big on public displays but someone did tell them it was my birthday and they brought a beautiful baked Alaska at dessert time, which was quite tasteful. No one sang! It's a beautiful place and a great place for a celebration. It slowed the kitchen down significantly resulting in extra waiting time for the presentation of our food. It is a beautful historic home and the atmosphere is old world. What made us very happy was the attention to details in regard to the service. The valet did not give tickets, but rather identified us by sight. Our car was also waiting when we stepped out on exit. This is rarely done anymore elsewhere. The head waiter was attentive, professional and charming. Cocktail orders were taken and served right away, and there was just the right amount of time to enjoy them before our order was taken for the balance of the meal. There was music, and our dinner was not rushed.
